The fight was a hit. Everything went smoothly, even a bit of action from the other side that might have made the crowd think that they would lose. Just enough to give the feeling of loss of control. Just how the tournament sponsors liked it. Was the fight as long as they would have liked it? Of course not. But it was the first fight with paired teams in the arena. How long could they expect it to last? Aiden guided Crimson back to his tube and he took in a slightly shaken breath as he opened his eyes. He looked up to the crowd that cheered he lifted his hand up to show his victory a smile upon his lips. He glanced to Kara and chuckled, “Better than you thought? Hm?” He jumped down off of his podium and glanced across the arena to the other two competitors. “A good warm up match, it helps to know how Grimstok moves. Very impressive.” He complimented as he turned and walked toward the exit of the platform. His wrist buzzed and he held it up to look at the small screen.
A little lacking in entertainment don’t you think? Marx. He could hear the words of the man in his mind.
Aiden let out a long breath and shut his eyes a moment before he pushed through the doors into the back hallway. “I guess we should see where they’ve put us. So we know when our next fight is.” He spoke and glanced to Kara. His eyes watched her for a long moment, he seemed almost mesmerized by the glow of her tattoos in the lighting. He had seen blacklight tattoos before, but hers were very well detailed.
“Congratulations! You two make an excellent pairing. The crowd will love to see you compete again tomorrow.” A man stood in a top hat and nice vest and slacks. He was one of the event coordinators. “Who will it be that you face?” He chuckled in a giddy tone. “Don’t worry, by the end of tonight we shall know. Here.” He held two tickets forward. “I gift from the sponsors. Enjoy the VIP deck. Do be sure to sign autographs for our guests. Hm?” With that the man turned and walked off.
Aiden looked to the two tickets that he held in his hand. The VIP deck was for the rich that attended the events. Though it offered a cozy accommodation, much better than that of the fighter waiting deck. He held Kara’s ticket out to her. “We must have impressed someone important.” He spoke with a bit of a scoff to his tone as he started off down the hallway which would lead them a quarter way around the arena and into the VIP lounge.

"Agreed." She responded to his observation of Grimstok's movement. "Seems we will compliment each other nicely. Makes me wonder if our pairing was accidental, random drawing perhaps, or intended." She chuckled with a bit of a dark tone to her amusement at the possibility that the event was rigged in such a way. Though it would be blasphemy to accuse the coordinators of such a underhanded act it wasn't unexpected. There were far too many hands in the pot with too much at risk to leave their odds completely up to chance.
Once they had left the arena and were given the tickets to the VIP lounge Kara smiled and thanked the man as walked down the hallway and plucked her slip from Aiden's grip. "We impressed a lot of people. Did you not hear that cheering out there?" She told him with another sly grin. "However, normally I avoid the VIP lounge. Some of the people who frequent the area are old clients of mine and I usually try to avoid having to re-explain why they're no longer allowed to purchase from me." She sighed and glanced over to Aiden with an almost bored expression. "I'll make an exception this time. I have a feeling you'll be eaten alive if you go up there alone, and I'm sure we're expected to both show up anyway."
It was actually rather concerning that the had made such an impression after only one short fight. Surely there was someone interested in talking, away from the prying eyes of groupies and media goers, but the question was who was it they wanted to see? Did they want Riot or Hitman? Her reputation lead her to believe it was the former, but there was something about this man she couldn't place her finger on. Like how someone who had just come out of the blue and managed to get his hands on one of her beasts without her knowledge. Surely there was far more to the what meet the eye about Aiden.
"Well, let's not keep them waiting." She said with a sigh and started off down the hall and towards the elevator that would take them up the ten stories or so to the lofty VIP deck that overlooked the city.

Aiden hummed slightly with a nod of his head when she mentioned the crowd. “I heard them. Yes.” He spoke as he glanced to her, he looked to her grin a moment before he looked back ahead to where they were walking. She loved the fight, the adrenaline. Much like most of the fighters did. Most of the fighters didn’t have the ultimatum of their life hung over their head each and every fight. Most also chose to fight. Being forced into this wasn’t something that caused enjoyment for him. He could win 100 fights back to back and Aiden would remain the same. He lacked the excitement that most had. The smile he cracked while on the podium was for the crowd. Nothing more.
“Eaten alive?” He questioned, a smirk curved up his lips as he looked to her. “Perhaps it is you who should be cautious about going to the VIP deck? Since you have old clients the frequent the area.” He gave a chuckle and shrugged slightly. “We both have to go, it was requested of us. Wouldn’t want to piss off the sponsors now would we? They might pull a sly card on us if we don’t show up.” He paused a moment and looked to her, a quizzical expression upon his face. “If we impress the sponsors and we continue to show that we are in control of the arena our chances of climbing the ladder to the final fight are very high. You know this is an entertainment industry. Underneath it all.” He grinned slightly for a moment before he pressed the elevator button. He frowned slightly. He hated elevators. He was convinced it would be a fear that lived with him his entire life.
He held his hand forward to allow Kara to enter the elevator first. Aiden followed and punched the button to take them up to the top of the stadium. He gripped onto the handrail and fell quiet as the elevator climbed the stories. When they came to the top he stepped off of the elevator and walked forward. He held his ticket to the doorman and then walked inside. This wasn’t his first time in the VIP suite. Marx tended to give him tickets after a rather successful fight. He imagined it was Marx that gave him a ticket once again. Marx liked his fighter to show his face, to mingle with the sponsors and the crowd. It made Marx more money that way.
Aiden walked up to the bar and nodded to the barkeep. “Classic on the rocks.” He spoke.
“Well, well, well. If it isn’t our victorious duo.” A man dressed in fine clothing approached. “You two did much better together than I could have even imagined. What luck that you were paired.” He had a glass of whisky in his hand. This was Mr. Alibaster, one of the most significant sponsors of the arena. He had funded the first few monsters back when the trade began. He flashed a smile, “Do tell me, how does it feel to be the first to try out new format?” He glanced to Kara and then to Aiden.
“Exhilarating.” Aiden responded with a grin of his own. He took a long drink of his cocktail. “Quite possibly the most fun I’ve had, in a long while.”
“Oh we need to get you out more, Hitman.” Mr. Alibaster chuckled. “What about you darling? Was it as exhilarating for you?” He leaned a bit closer to Kara as he spoke this. Aiden watched the man a moment before his eyes moved to Kara curiously. He'd never liked Alibaster. He was all about the money. All about the gains. If this was the man responsible for their tickets then there was much more to come ahead of them.

Why was it always so awkward in elevators? No matter who Kara was with whether they spoke or stood in silence elevators seemed to have this curse placed upon them. She glanced to Aiden as he gripped the railing and she idly played with a lock of her red hair that flowed over her shoulder and in front of her. When they arrived she smiled and followed him out of the elevator. Nodding to the few to acknowledged them as they watched them divert directly to the bar.
"Oh, Alibaster, you know I always enjoy myself in a good brawl." She replied as she leaned against the counter. "I wouldn't say it was really.. exhilarating for me though. Just a good warm up." She told him which prompted a chuckle out of the man. "I'll take a screwdriver." She told the man who sighed at the drink choice, but it was a staple for Kara and he knew he couldn't persuade her otherwise. "Coming right up." He told her and stepped to the side to retrieve the bottle of orange juice.
"So, where do you get your repairs done on Crimson?" Kara asked Aiden as she waited and while they were alone. "I would love for him to be brought to my shop so that I can take a good look at him." She was dying to get her hands on the beast. Check for any changes or permanent damage that might have been done. "I wont even charge you." She promised Aiden to give him further incentive.

Aiden watched as Kara replied so easily to Alibaster. She didn’t seem to be bothered by the man’s presence at all. Alibaster had chuckled and lifted his glass. “Well I look forward to the next fight that you two are in.” He stepped away then.
Aiden downed his drink and set it on the counter. No sooner had he done this that Kara had posed the question about Crimson. “Oh...” He looked to her for a long moment as he waited for his second drink to be poured. “I have a place.” He spoke, “Down in the warehouse district...” He said the other part a bit more quietly. He was ashamed of where he had to keep Crimson, where he lived. All of it. Before Marx had forced his hand he lived in one of the upper middle class districts. He was an engineer after all. “I do most of the repairs on him myself. But my sponsor gives me help if he is more injured than I can handle...I’m...” He looked to her a long moment, “I’m an engineer myself.” He spoke and gave a bit of a smile before he grasped his new beverage and took a long drink from it.
“I would be curious to see your establishment. Where Crimson came from.” He offered a bit of a smile then. “To be honest, it doesn’t seem right for you to offer such a service free of charge. What’s in it for you then?” He asked as he watched her closely. “I would offer you credits but clearly I’m more lacking in that area than you.” He leaned against the counter and looked to the crowd of VIPs whom were enjoying the current fight. He knew as soon as the fight was over they would have to mingle a bit. That is what Marx would want him to do. He tracked his eyes across the room to Mr. Marx whom stood at the glass overlooking the stadium with a cigar in his mouth. The man puffed away at the thing like a steam engine running as fast as it could. Aiden brought his attention back to Kara then.

Kara seemed disappointed when Aiden didn't readily accept her offer for her to work on Crimson. When he made the comment about doing the work for free she waved her hand dismissively. She didn't want or need his money, but his next statement quickly caught her interest. "You're an engineer? A bio-engineer?" She seemed almost perplexed by that idea. Why didn't she know who he was then and now she was a little worried about Crimson being in his hands. What if someone was trying to copy her work? That just wouldn't sit well with her.
Before she could reply Alibaster returned with her drink and placed it down on the bar in front of her. He smiled and then walked away to help another patron at the other end of the counter. "You come out of no where, have one of my creatures, are an engineer that I've never heard of and now you want to see my facilities. Kind of suspicious, don't ya think?" She eyed him carefully, watching his expression as she sipped her drink. "I just want to see my beast. He went several years ago and I've not heard anything about him until now. Satisfying a curiosity is my payment for the services I offer."

Aiden watched her response, a bit of a chuckle came over his lips. She was surprised, a bit more accusations were made than he would have thought. He took another sip of his drink and nodded to Mr. Alibaster before he turned his attention to her. He looked almost amused now as she eyed him. He had to hold back laughter. If only this girl knew. But he couldn’t tell her everything. Marx would kill him. “I couldn’t land a job. The industry is tough, you would know. Unless you have enough money to get by with your own establishment.” He raised a brow at her slightly. “Don’t worry, I haven’t done anything dangerous to Crimson. In fact I haven’t modified him at all. He is a very well mannered and evenly balanced beast.” He assured her as he turned to face her. “Now, you could call it suspicious if I were the one asking and pushing to come to your lab. However, if I remember correctly you’re the one that offered that I bring Crimson to your facility. And….I didn’t come out of nowhere. I’ve been fighting for nearly 3 years now.” He waved his hand at her slightly as he finished his drink. “Call it what you want. If my education bothers you, then I don’t have to bring him. Besides I would have to speak to my sponsor before I did such a thing. I can’t afford to lose the money I need to keep Crimson in good shape.” He smirked to her slightly as he heard his name called from across the room. “If you’ll excuse me, Kara.” He turned and walked into the crowd of VIP patrons.
Aiden was called over to a small group that began asking him questions. He placed a warm smile upon his lips. He was good at playing the part for the VIPs. He signed a few items for the patrons. After several minutes of mingling he looked over to Kara and nodded to her. “Hey Riot.” He called across the platform to her. He stepped over to her and chuckled as he looked down to her. “Our lovely VIPs would like a picture with us.” He grasped her arm gently and walked her over to the group whom stood around them. Flashes began to go off just moments later as a photographer took the groups photo.
After all was said and done Aiden returned back to the bar for another drink. He stood with both elbows upon the cool granite. His wrist buzzed and he looked down to the message. Getting close to your new partner? Good. Reel her in and make sure she trusts you. Just don’t get too close. Remember, you have to ensure that you’re the only one standing in the end. He drew in a breath as he swiped the message away and he grasped his beverage. He turned and leaned against the counter. “How’d you get started?” He asked as he looked to Kara. “What made you want to fight?"

His amused response and dismissive grin didn't help dismiss her distrust completely. Sure, she had been the one to offer initially but if she had known his education level she might have reconsidered. Letting her excitement get the best of her had caused her to get a bit ahead of herself.. again. Kara made a soft. "Hmm." Sound when he mentioned his sponsors. Just who were his sponsors anyway? He wore no tags or emblems to represent them. It wasn't unheard of but still raised more questions about the man than he gave answers for.
While he was out mingling with the crowd Kara stayed at the bar. A couple people approached her for autographs and one man came to ask her for probably the tenth time to build him a beast. She refused, again, and sent him on his way with a curse under her breath. Luckily he didn't get to come back to pester her any further as Aiden returned to the bar to drag her over to the enthusiastic fans. VIP or not everyone always wanted a damned picture. Still, she smiled, posed and chatted with a few of the men and women who wished to speak with her. Though she was grateful when the next fight started up and people returned to watch the ring.
"I started fighting cause I was tired of seeing my beasts torn apart by idiots who shouldn't pilot a car much less a beast. Money, unfortunately, does not buy brains." She scoffed and ordered another drink. "Why are you fighting? You don't seem to enjoy it very much. I've known you for less than a day and I can tell your smile is forced."

Aiden took a sip as he listened to her response. He chuckled and grinned, a true smile. “Ah yes, money can’t seem to buy that. Yet. I’m certain that at some point we as a society will discover a way to make those with enough money to grease our palms all the more intelligent.” He drew in a breath to her next comment. “Ah...and here I thought I was so convincing.” He smiled to her again before he took another drink. “My brother, this was his scene.” He spoke his voice grew solemn. “He always dreamed of getting into the arena. Putting up a good fight. Really riling up the crowd.” He stared off as he spoke. He fell quiet for a moment before he finally looked to Kara. “It also pays better than the lack of employment that I had. I also get to admire some of the well crafted beasts such as the ones that you have created.” He smirked slightly after this comment.
“If I had my choice I would rather not fight, yes. But I do try to think that my brother would be more than proud to watch me in the arena, kicking ass, as he would say.” He paused a moment and his attention turned to the VIPs that stood at the glass, a silence had fallen over the crowd. Aiden looked to Kara a moment before he stepped off from the bar. He walked to the glass and peered down into the arena to a grotesque display. Two of the 4 beasts lay lifeless within the arena. The other two were ripping each other to shreds. Blood bathed the arena. His jaw loosened slightly as he watched the display. One beast ripped a hold into the abdomen of the other...and the other sliced the neck of the competitor. A gasp came from the crowd as the beasts staggered for several seconds before both fell lifeless.
The intercom crackled slightly a moment. “Well...there you have it ladies and gentlemen….our first true brawl to the death! Unfortunate for these competitors. But how exciting was that?!” The crowd roared.
Aiden stared down into the arena. “Is it too much blood for you?” A woman questioned as she noticed his loose jaw. “Or is it the idea that you could come all the way to the finish line only to lose to a tie?” She placed her hand upon his shoulder and gazed up into his eyes. She was dressed in a lovely evening gown, her hair was done up nicely with a flower even poked on the side of her head. “What a shame that would be.” She smiled to him as she searched his expression. She stepped a bit closer to him. “You should come find me later.” She smiled devilishly at him and ran her fingertips along his chest as she walked away from him. “Don’t let me down.” She spoke over her shoulder.
Aiden drew in a breath. He hated the VIP suit for that very reason. Some of the VIPs seemed to think that the fighters that they invited up to their platform were play things. He clenched his jaw slightly and turned to find himself looking at Marx. The man puffed on his cigar and chuckled. “You’ve got real talent kid.” He grinned as he watched him. “The kind of talent that could make you king of this arena.” He blew his smoke in Aiden’s face. He hated these interactions with Marx. He coughed slightly and stepped from the cloud of smoke. “Think about it.” Marx handed him a card. “I’m surly better than whoever you have sponsoring you.” He grinned and walked away.
Aiden took the card and frowned slightly. “Thanks.” He spoke as he stepped away from Marx and back to the bar. He shoved the card in his pocket. “You think we’ve spent enough time up here?” He asked, his frown had yet to leave his expression.

Kara's own expression softened slightly as he spoke for his reasoning. To get into the ring because a late relative would have enjoyed it seemed.. well shaky if she was being honest. However, she wasn't willing to press the matter any further at the moment and decided to allow him his privacy.
The silence also caught Kara's attention and she turned her gaze up to a monitor displayed over the bar that showed the ring. It wasn't nearly as good of a view as looking down through the glass but it was enough to tell her what was going on. It was a brutal, well matched fight. Not the sort of match you want to be placed in right off the bat. Crippling unless someone could get a replacement beast and even then she wasn't sure the coordinators of the arena would allow re-entry with a new beast.
She didn't catch the entire interaction between Aiden and the VIPs but she saw the smoke and exchange of a card, offering sponsorship most likely, and then watched as Aiden approached her once more. "I've been ready to leave since we got here. Seems you're more the social butterfly than I am." She commented, finished her drink and set it down on the bar before turning to leave. "Shall we?"
She waved to the few onlookers who watched them head back towards the elevator and when she stepped inside the small space that would take them back downstairs she gave a relieved sigh. "So, did you ask your boss if Crimson can come over to play?" She still wanted to examine him. She would just keep the stuff she was working on under lock and key. Her workshop was fairly well known so the space itself wasn't something to covet really.

“And here I thought I was staying up here for you.” He watched her with a bit of a smirk upon his lips. “I’m only giving them what they want.” He shrugged and finished his drink. He followed her to the elevator and drew in a long breath as he stepped on. As the doors closed and they were met with silence he too let out a sigh of relief as he leaned his head against the wall, his eyes closed. Though his attention easily returned to Kara as she questioned him. “Oh. No. My sponsor doesn’t mingle in the VIP lounge often. He likes the energy of the crowd. Let me send off a message.” He gave a warm smile. He lifted his wrist and typed away, letting Marx know as many details as possible without writing too much.
Aiden clicked send and then looked to her, he hummed slightly, feeling his alcohol. It was a good release. Something he relished. If there was one good thing in this world, it was alcohol. Good alcohol at least. He looked to her a long moment. “Just have to wait for a reply.” He spoke with a nod. Aiden gripped onto the handle as the elevator rattled slightly, he clenched his jaw and held his breath. As the elevator smoothed out once again he relaxed and gave a bit of an uneasy smile. “I hate these contraptions.” He admitted to her and then bit his lip slightly as he looked away. To show a bit of his soft side, that made most trust a bit easier. To see that someone who acted as tough as him had fears.
Aiden was quiet then as he watched the lights change as they lowered from the top of the arena. When they reached the bottom he stepped from the elevator and his wrist buzzed. He looked down to the message. Of course. Get her as comfortable with you as you can. She’s your partner after all. Aiden didn’t like this one bit. What else would Marx expect him to do? He felt dirty even trying to gain Kara’s trust. He gave her a smile then, “Crimson can come to your facility.” He swiped to clear the message. “I got the all clear from the boss man.” He gave a slight chuckle. “To be honest, I wasn’t sure if I would or not.” He smirked to her as they walked down the hall.

Kara chuckled at his discomfort in the elevator. She wasn't bothered in the slightest, but with the way their world was there was much more to be afraid of than an elevator. "Good thing it's a short ride." She offered to help ease his mind a bit rather than feeding into his discomfort.
When they got to the lower levels and she heard that Crimson had been cleared for her to examine him she smiled brightly. An almost giddy grin like she was a child and he had just said they were going out for ice cream. "Excellent!" She exclaimed and brought her own comm up and typed in a few commands to her transport. She had a large truck that could easily fit two of the containment units. "We'll take my ride then." She told him and motioned for him to follow to the bay area where the trucks loaded and unloaded the beasts.
Crimson and Grimstock were quickly brought down from holding and loaded into the covered trailer. Unlike her car Riot's logo was no where to be seen on this vehicle. The plate was ordinary and the outside was even a little scuffed up. It was easier to get around when she didn't have her monster on display. She had seen one fighter display his and he had caused a major traffic jam as people tried to take pictures. No, she'd rather get to and from easily and quickly without being noticed.
From the driver seat of the truck came a large, bulky man with "Riot Crew" written in bold letters across his back and on the breast of his shirt. Signaling that he authorized to be in the business section of the arena rather than out with the fans. "Hey boss. Loading two?" He asked with a bit of confusion.
"Yes, I found one of Grimstok's brothers. He's coming home for a check up. Make sure they're both tucked in will ya?" She asked in a polite but authoritative voice. The man nodded and asked no further questions before going to insure the dock hands didn't manage to damage anything.
"We can take my car back. Ron will get these two back as soon as he's done loading. Don't worry he's the only one I trust to transport my beasts." She reassured Aiden and then motioned for him to follow her out to the parking lot.

Her response caused Aiden to let out a laugh. She was so excited, he hadn’t imagined that she would be so thrilled. He watched as she typed on her comm and he followed her toward the loading bays. He shoved his hands into the pockets of his jacket as he looked around the loading bay. He looked up to Crimson in the tube. The beast growled a hello to him as the eyes of the creature tracked after Aiden. “Hey buddy.” He stepped up to the tube and placed his hand against it. “Just a little ride eh? You get to hang out with your friend there.” He looked to the tube that held Grimstok. Crimson chirped slightly in a response. Aiden looked to the trailer, inspecting it. He then looked to the man that stepped from the truck.
He was silent during the interaction between the two. His eyes moved to Kara as she spoke that this man was the only one she trusted to move her beasts. “So long as Crimson is in good hands.” He nodded. “I’m putting a lot of trust in you with this.” He glanced over his shoulder as he followed her toward the car lot. Her car wasn’t hard to miss. The bright red color of the paint caused it to stick out against the cars that were parked around it. Aiden stepped up to the car and looked it over slightly, “I didn’t get to compliment your car the other night.” He smirked to her as he climbed in when the door was unlocked. He pulled his belt over his shoulder and looked to Kara a moment. “It’s nice.” He said as he looked to the dash and the devices within the cab of the car. “How far away is your facility?” He asked curiously.

"Well thank you." She replied to his compliment on her car as she slid in the driver seat. She liked her car, well she had paid enough that she had better love the damned thing. "I was sort of bullied into the purchase by a friend of mine when I got into the ring. Said I needed to look the part and all." She shrugged and started the engine before buckling her own seat belt and pulling out of the parking spot.
"As for you trust with Crimson I promise you it's not misplaced. I know you can't just take my word on that seeing as how we just met but it wouldn't benefit me at all to jeopardize my teammate now would it?" The circumstance of having a fighting partner really gave a few luxuries she hadn't counted on having. She could talk strategies, get a better look at another beast and perhaps even form an alliance that would last after the tournament. Allies were in short supply as of late.
"Who knows, maybe after this tournament once we win it, if you're still wanting out of the ring and you're any good maybe I'll hire ya." She gave him a teasing grin as she pulled onto the highway. "My place is only about twenty minutes away. We'll get there in just enough time to prep my workshop for Grimstok and Crimson's arrival." She explained and once they were on the highway she floored the pedal and sped down the road.
When they arrived at her workshop, which also happened to be her home, she smiled up at the large warehouse building with her name emblazoned on the top. She parked her car in a space directly next to a set of stairs and after they had gotten out and stepped away from it she flipped on a switch that brought up a shield that would protect her car from the elements and potential sticky fingers who were looking for a joy ride. "Come on up." She told Aiden and lead him up a set of stairs on the side of the building to a second level.
After unlocking the door and letting them both inside she flicked on a few lights which illuminated the living space she kept in the loft area of the warehouse. It was a large living area, complete with living area large enough for guests, a couple doors leading off to the side for bedrooms and bathroom. There was also a large open floor plan kitchen. The centerpiece of the whole space though were the glass walls that looked down over the warehouse floor.
There were empty containment pods, small pods with what looked like juvenile beasts, robotics arms and lifts, viles and jugs of chemicals and an impressive wall of various tools she used. There was also a section of the floor that looked like it could open up and lead down to a lower level. "Home sweet home. I know you're not supposed to sleep where you work but I just can't help myself. Plus it saves on rent." She smiled and shrugged.
