Skyla looked up to Lyonel with a brow raised slightly. “Of course, but aren’t we supposed to help keep them safe? This cut is deep.” She sighed slightly and shook her head. “But I’m more of a botanist.” She gave a chuckle as she’d settled into her work. She listened to him, a bit absentmindedly as he spoke of how they tagged the wildlife. She glanced to him a moment as he scanned the mother bear. “I wonder if they have wandered into the area. There was that huge wildfire about 30 miles from here. Perhaps they were displaced by it.” Her emerald hues watched him a long moment before she’d returned to cleaning the wound of the cub.
The woman stood and smiled brightly as the Warden approached. She watched him struggle slightly with dismounting the ATV. He wasn’t built for the wilds quite like Lyonel seemed to be. But the warden was older. That was to be expected. Right? Skyla reached her hand forward and shook his hand with a grin. “It is great to finally meet you in person….Drew.” She paused a moment before speaking his first name. She was used to doctors that required formalities. These two were not formal at all it seemed. But she imagined that was the life of the wilds. It was different out here. The air smelled different, it felt different. “Right. Sorry about that. I’m used to formalities.” Skyla smirked slightly as she looked to him and then looked to the mother bear and then to the cub that she’d patched up.
“I might have if Lyonel hadn’t acted so swiftly. I will admit, I froze up a bit. But he kept calm.” Skyla glanced to Lyonel, giving him accolades she hoped to help his relationship with Drew. Which she remembered he’d mentioned wasn’t so great when she’d threatened to tell the warden about his attitude. The fiery haired woman shifted her weight and raised her brows slightly when Lyonel corrected Drew. So much for giving him better interactions. But 5? This guy truly was a survivalist. Or something of the sort. Skyla was a bit too much of a city slicker, though she didn’t mind getting dirty. It had just been a long time since she had been on an assignment like this. Undergrad internship junior year? That sounded about right.
Skyla glanced to Drew, she couldn’t help but allow a laugh to escape her lips when he asked his question. “Oh, you forgot to mention that in the interview, Drew.” She smirked to him. “He definitely doesn’t have table manners, that is for certain.” She crossed her arms over her chest slightly before she let out a sigh. “But he truly did keep us safe just now. I am thankful for that. No matter how intolerable.” She winked before she stepped to help load up the bears. “I’ve got this guy.” She spoke as she awkwardly scooped up the cub. He was a bit heavy for her small frame, but she was strong enough to succeed. She gently set him upon the trailer. She then helped the two load up the mama bear. She slipped slightly as she pushed the bear upon the trailer, but Skyla caught her footing, a laugh escaped her lips. She then shook her head as she fumbled with the leather strap. She tilted her head slightly as she looked to it a moment, thinking deeply. Then she figured out how it looped through the metal buckle to hold it in place. “Ah...here we are.” She spoke as she gently tightened it into place.
She took a few steps back. “Where exactly are we going to take them?” She glanced to Lyonel and then to Drew.
