Sydney watched her sister carefully. She tapped her fingers together and gave a nod. She watched as Myra seemed to reprimand Myles for questioning her about the barrier. The energy that her sister exuded in this moment was borderline chaotic. It made Sydney uncomfortable which caused her to bite her lip slightly. “O-ok....I-I understand.” The stutter returned to the woman. She watched as her sister abruptly left the room. “G-good night.” Sydney spoke after a few silent moments.
Myles watched her as he crossed his arms tightly over his chest. “You don’t have anything to worry about, Sydney. Between your sister, Logan and I. You are safe. Okay?” He gave a warm smile. “We won’t let anything happen to you. Myra would have my head on a stake if I did allow you to get hurt.” He winked to her playfully. When logan spoke Myles shrugged slightly, “I never said she was wrong. I just saw what that fae can do. She’s powerful for being bled and now she’s healed.”
“I...shouldn’t have healed her...” Sydney bit at her lip again and drew in a breath. She shut her eyes as her anxiety mounted once again. “I...I’m sorry...”
Myles pinched the bridge of his nose. He didn’t know what to do for Myra’s sister, but evidently he just shouldn’t speak at all. Everything he said seemed to upset her. “No, no you did a great thing.” He looked to Logan for help. It was then that Logan offered to carry Sydney to her room. A groan came from the demon. “Don’t forget that’s Myra’s sister, Logan.” He raised a brow and then smirked slightly.
Sydney looked to Logan, her nerves seemed to settle a bit. “I should sleep.” She nodded as she looked to him. “I would appreciate the help yes.” She stood shakily. She was still weak and with the effects of the elixir on top of that, she was borderline drunk. She leaned against Logan and gripped onto him for balance. “Okay.” She spoke with a tired voice.
**
Jada paced about the room. She huffed as she stepped to the door. She remembered Myra’s words. She was not to leave the room. She rolled her eyes as she stepped from the room and into the shop. The Fae had her arms crossed as she perused around. She poked at a few of the trinkets and odd things on the shelves. She was merely looking. Nothing harmful. She grasped a book and flipped through the pages curiously before she set it back upon the shelf. She did this for nearly an hour before she found a book that interested her. The fae carried the book back to the backroom and she sat down on the couch. She pulled the blanket up over her body and settled into the pillow. She flipped through the pages as she read them. It was a fiction book – but it caught her attention. She had a soft smile upon her lips as she read through the pages. A laugh escaped every now and again. But eventually Jada fell asleep with the book upon her chest, her knees pulled up and her head leaned against the back of the couch.

Normally Myra liked to take long, extremely hot showers, but she wasn't feeling like standing in the tub too long this time. So while the water warmed she undressed, tossing her clothes into a hamper beneath the sink, and laid out a fresh towel upon the sink. Once she had stepped into the shower she quickly rinse and washed herself, scrubbing thoroughly to make sure she removed any and all blood from her limbs, body and hair. Still she spent a fraction of the time she normally did in the shower.
Once she got out she realized she hadn't gotten her change of clothes before hand and gave a soft groan as she dried off and then wrapped the towel around herself. She brushed her teeth and hair before stepping out of the bathroom and into the hallway.
Glancing towards the living area she saw Myles was still there. "Hey, I'm sorry if I'm not thinking clearly. She just got under my skin is all." She explained. "If she had said those things.. well about myself I wouldn't have even blinked. I just can't let her do that to any of you."
*************
Logan nodded, glad Sydney accepted his help. "I haven't forgotten, Myles." Logan snapped back. "It's call manners." He said and shot a smirk over to the demon before wrapping his arm around Sydney's waist and allowing her to lean against him as he supported her while she walked to the bedroom.
Once they were inside of Sydney's room he set her down gently on the edge of the bed and then glanced around at the various personal items she had laid out on the shelves. "Hopefully tomorrow wont be as rough as today." He offered as his eyes fell back onto her. "Get some sleep and if you need anything else either myself or Myles will be right outside. Don't hesitate to call for us." He reminded her and then pulled the blankets of her bed back so she could crawl in and lay down beneath them.

Sydney gave a sleepy chuckle as Logan and Myles bickered with one another. Myles rolled his eyes as she watched the Fae wrap his arm around the witch’s waist. “Hm, manners. Right.” Myles spoke as he grasped the cup that Sydney drank her elixir from. He gathered up Myra’s cup and plate from her food. He then stepped over to the sink to wash the dishes. He gazed to the simple backsplash of the kitchen, a mosaic tiled design of blacks and whites with slate grey thrown in. It was modern without being too terribly abstract. Once he was finished with the dishes he sat at the kitchen island and scrolled upon his phone a bit aimlessly.
To his surprise he heard Myra speak. He turned his head to see her in merely a towel in the hallway. A bit of a smirk tugged at the edge of his mouth. He gave a light chuckle, “Hm, you have to protect us huh?” He asked with a playful smile as he stood and moved to stand before her. He gazed down into her eyes, “I don’t know what else to say besides thank you.” He smirked fully then, “Do you need an elixir for sleep, Myra?” He asked as his eyes searched hers.
**
Sydney had leaned heavily against Logan, thankful for his help. He was warm and held the scent of a cologne that she’d never smelled before. It was an alluring smell that was a mixture of cedar and cashmere. As he set her down on the edge of the bed she gazed about the room, a warm smile curved up her lips as she looked to the nearly empty space. “Any day that is not at the Academy is a good day, Logan.” She spoke sleepily. Would she have said such a statement without the elixir that Myles gave her? Perhaps not. Or perhaps she was truly that tired that her careful filter from the years of built up anxiety and fear had all but vanished. She slipped beneath the blankets with his help and she lay back on the plush surface of the bed. Her eyes fluttered as she listened to his words. He and Myles would be there for her. If she needed anything at all. “Mhm...” Sydney responded as her body loosened and she succumbed to a deep slumber.
**
A young Sydney sketched within a journal, she had a bright smile upon her lips. She sat in the middle of the floor of her dorm room at the Academy. The journal was meant for her to write letters, not draw. She had been told multiple times not to use the book for such things. But the young child didn’t seem to care. Or at least she didn’t seem to understand the forbidden nature of it. She reached a hand forward to the page and her eyes lit with the intricate power of her magic. She spoke a few words of the incantation and from the page a cat walked. It was a large black and white short haired cat that rubbed against her and moved around the child. It purred as it pushed its head against her body. Sydney giggled as she turned and pet the summoned furry friend.
It was then that the door to the dorm opened and one of the professors stood with a cross look on his face. “Where on earth did you get a cat?” He questioned, “The filthy thing probably has fleas. Or other such disease.” He moved forward into the room and made to grasp for the creature that quickly evaded him and jumped upon the bookshelf. Sydney merely giggled in response, her eyes glowed lightly as her magic fueled the creature. The professor turned and gazed to the child, his lips parted. He snatched up her journal and flipped to the pages, a groan came from his lips. “We are going to take everything away from you. Do you understand? Huh?” His voice was full of frustration. “Sydney Longview, you have taken the lives of others. Do you understand that?” He questioned.
Sydney stood slowly, her smile had been wiped away. She waved her hand and the cat disappeared before the professor’s eyes. “I...was just lonely Professor Tomelson.” She whispered softly. “I just...”
“No. You are not to use your magic in any means unless it is in a controlled environment with a professor present. Even then it is to be whatever spell you’ve been told to perform. Nothing. I mean nothing of this nature.” He shook the book at her. “You won’t be writing anymore letters to your sister without supervision. We can’t have you drawing up monsters and bringing the entire academy down to rubble.” He growled out.
Sydney had tears welled in her eyes. “I...I didn’t...m-mean to...” She spoke as her lip quivered. “I’m s-sorry...” She apologized and sniffled. “Please give it b-back.” She looked to the journal. She’d written so many letters to her sister. At first she got letters back. Then she stopped receiving those letters, but she still updated Myra. If Myra was too busy to respond Sydney didn’t mind, she just wanted someone to talk to. Anyone.
The professor gave a heartless laugh, “Miss Longview, I will not be giving this back to you. You can speak to Madam Wisely about your actions.” He spoke before he stepped abruptly from her room.
**
The morning sunlight found its way into the bedroom that Sydney slept in. It washed over her bed and crept over her face to fill her with warmth. Her eyes fluttered open and a soft yawn escaped her. Through the night she had tossed and turned, she muttered and whimpered a few times as the nightmare of her past reminded her of the Ryker Academy. She slowly rose from the bed and found her way to the bathroom where she sleepily turned on the water. It was her routine. First a shower. Then she would drink a coffee and read. Then at some point she would eat breakfast. Usually she woke before the cafeteria at the Academy was open, so she was forced to live like this. Always waiting for others. She slipped into a new pair of jeans and a black tank top before she pulled on her black jacket. She stepped from the shower and made her bed neatly. Her motions were almost robotic in a way. It was what she did for years. She had to keep her room up to certain standards at the Academy. She folded up her dirty clothing and placed it on top of her dresser.
Sydney then walked from her room and sat upon the couch. She gazed out the window as she held her journal in hand. She didn’t seem to notice anyone else in the room as she began to sketch the city. She had a soft smile upon her lips as she did this. Each line carefully crafted and thought out. She was drawing up the street that the shop was one. Each sign of the other shops she would pause to think of and lean slightly to view if she needed to.
Myles watched her from where he stood at the counter. His honey colored eyes played over the woman as she seemed to be in her own world. He silently walked down the hallway and glanced into her room that she’d left in immaculate order. He glanced to Myra’s door and let out a sigh. He didn’t want to disturb Sydney before Myra was awake. He distinctly remembered every comment that he made to her little sister had seemed to set her off in some shape or form. He clicked his tongue before he walked back down the hallway, he made his steps a bit heavier, so as to announce his presence.
Sydney’s eyes lifted from the page and she gazed to him a moment before she offered a practiced forced smile. “Good morning.” She spoke, her voice still held sleep in it. She brushed her damp hair to the side with her fingertips before she looked back down to the page.
“Good morning.” Myles responded. “Would you like coffee?” He questioned.
Sydney lifted her gaze to him, a true smile curved up her lips then. “That would be lovely.” She replied, her voice still soft.
Myles nodded to her slightly. “I’ll have a coffee right up then.” He spoke as he stepped into the kitchen and he began to prepare a full pot. He stood before the coffee pot as it dripped over the grounds. His eyes glanced to Sydney as she continued to draw, in her own world it seemed. He placed a bit of cream and sugar into a coffee mug before he poured the cup and stirred it. He then carried it over and placed it on the coffee table before her. “There you are.” He spoke with a smile.
Sydney sat up and placed her sketchbook before her on the couch. She smiled back to him as she tucked her legs under her body and she grasped the mug. She drew in a breath of the earthy scent of the fresh coffee. “Thank you.” She replied as she relaxed against the back of the couch.

Meanwhile...
Jada was still fast asleep with the book upon her chest. She was getting the much needed rest that she’d missed out on in the past three years. Her chest rose and fell slowly as she dreamed of absolutely nothing. It was pure bliss.

When Myles offered to make Myra something to help her sleep she shook her head. "No thank you. I'm pretty sure I'll be out as soon as my head touches that pillow." She told him and gave a half hearted chuckle. Reaching out she put a hand upon his shoulder and squeezed gently. "Thank you." She told him. "For everything." She really was tired and could barely think straight. Regardless she wanted him to know she appreciated him and his efforts before she turned away to walk towards her bedroom.
Once she was inside and had closed the door Myra unwrapped the towel from around herself and hung it over the back of a chair she used at a small desk. She fished a long t-shirt out of her dresser as well as a pair of underwear and pulled them on. Once she was dressed she walked to her bed and let herself fall forward. A loud sigh escaped her lips as she pulled a quilt over herself and curled up as sleep quickly overtook her mind.
After Sydney was safely in bed and sound asleep Logan smiled and gently brushed her hair out of her face. "Good night." He whispered and turned to leave the room, closing the door as he did. Once he was back out in the living room with only Myles as company he placed his hands behind his head and gave a sigh. "Well, looks like it's just you and me tonight. The women are exhausted and I'm not ready to sleep myself." He stated. "Fancy a game to kill the time?" Logan loved to challenge Myles to games. It was his way of fighting with the demon in a Myra-approved fashion.
The following morning Myra woke early. Despite her drained state the night before she always recovered quickly when she slept in her own bed. Turning over to look at the clock upon her nightstand she saw it was almost 8am, the shop would open up for business in three hours. Plenty of time to get ready, speak with a certain fae woman, and hopefully send her on her way. Since neither Logan or Myles had come to wake her up she assumed the night had passed peacefully which was a good sign.
Stretching her limbs Myra groaned a bit and then sat up on the edge of her bed as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes. "First.. coffee." She muttered and grabbed a pair of pajama pants from her dresser, pulled them on and headed out to the kitchen. To her pleasant surprise she could already smell coffee brewing and smiled to herself. Perhaps she needed to have Myles over more often for over night visits.
Once she entered the living room she saw that Sydney was also already awake. "Good morning." She stated to announce her presence. "I'm surprised you're up already."

Myles’ hues settled in on Myra, a genuine smile upon his lips as she touched his shoulder. “Get some rest.” He placed his hand over hers and gave a squeeze before he watched her walked toward her bedroom. Myles stood there for a long moment before he turned and found a seat in the recliner in the living room. He leaned his head back against the plush cushion and drew in a deep breath. When Logan re-emerged his eyes opened and he looked to the Fae. A tired chuckle came over his lips. “I’m not interested in your games tonight, Logan. It’s been a taxing day enough. Don’t you think?” He crooked a brow. “Besides, I would win anyway.” A smirk came then as Myles watched Logan a long moment before he leaned his head back and closed his eyes. “And you get quite rowdy when you lose. You’re a sore loser and we have two tired witches and a feisty highborn downstairs.” He clicked his tongue. “Doesn’t sound like a good mixture to me. Remember what happened last time you got rowdy and Myra was exhausted like this?” He questioned as he clasped his hands over his abdomen as he leaned back and relaxed into the recliner.
**
Sydney had settled back into her sketchbook. She was fixing the shading, adjusting lines. Her pencil moved swiftly upon the page with a steady rhythm that could lull one to sleep. Every now and again she would sip from the steaming mug of coffee and reach to set it back down upon the coffee table. Myles sat at the kitchen island silently his eyes watched the witch curiously but, since she did not speak, neither did he. As Myra came down the hallway he offered a smile to her as he stood and stepped to the coffee pot to pour her a mug. Sydney lifted her ocean hues from the page, she had a gentle smile upon her lips. “The um...sun was quite bright...and besides...I am um….” She glanced to the clock as it ticked upon the wall. “I’m usually in class by 7:15. Class starts at 7:30...so...” She bit at her lip. She was so used to the routine of the Academy. Even with her body tired – it didn’t matter. She woke up at the same time she always did, with the help of the sun as well of course.
Myles stepped to Myra and held a mug of coffee to her, “Good morning.” He smiled to her before he took his seat upon the stool at the kitchen island again. “Our guest hasn’t made a peep since last night.” He lulled his head slightly to look to Myra. “I don’t know whether I should be uncomfortable by that or happy.” He had a crooked smile to this comment. He then glanced back to Sydney whom had settled right back into her sketch book. He pressed his lips together slightly. “What are the plans to the day?” He asked curiously.
To this question Sydney lifted her eyes once again. The scratching of the pencil across the page ceased. She gazed to the two and grasped her coffee for another sip. “Is there anything I can help with?” She questioned softly.

"Well, if it's the light that bothers you then we can always get black out curtains or something." Myra offered Sydney then turned to face Myles and smiled as he approached with a steaming mug of coffee. Taking the mug she wrapped her hands around it and brought it to her nose to inhale the wonderful scent. "Hopefully it's a good sign and she just went to sleep." Of course they wouldn't be sure until they actually went down to check on their guest.
"Honestly, Syd, I'm not sure. It'll depend on what Jada tells us and if we're able to contact her family in the UK." She replied and moved to sit on the opposite end of the couch from her sister. "If there is something I'll let you know."
Glancing around Myra noticed that they were missing their own Fae friend. "Where is Logan?" She asked.
As if on que the door that lead downstairs opened and Logan walked in. He was wearing a fresh change of clothes and smiling happily as always. "I'm right here, though I'm glad someone was worried about me." He stated which earned him and eyeroll from Myra. "I ran home to grab some new clothes real quick. I was gone for a total of.." He looked at the watch on his wrist. "Six minutes."
"So you left right when I woke up." Myra replied then sipped her coffee as she pulled her legs up to the side on the couch.
"Well, it wasn't my intention, but I guess so." He stated and gave a shrug before looking over to Sydney who had her sketchbook out once more. "And good morning to you as well."

Sydney shook her head slightly, “Oh no the sun is fine. I would um...I would wake up anyway.” She replied to her sister softly. She glanced to Myles and then back to her sister, a soft sigh came from her lips. She bit at her lip and then set her sketchbook upon the coffee table before she lifted her coffee once again and sipped from it. Her brows furrowed slightly to Myra’s words. The Fae was from across the ocean? The UK? How had she gotten mixed up with someone here? There were so many questions that brewed in her mind. “The UK?” Sydney asked as her eyes tracked her sister to where she sat upon the couch. “She’s so far from home...” She muttered and then stared into her coffee mug for a long moment. She then gave a nod. “I’ll do...what I can...” She looked back to Myra and brushed her fingertips through her silvery locks to push her hair from her face.
Myles sipped upon his coffee as he watched the two sisters. He drew in a breath to speak to answer Myra’s question about Logan when the Fae waltzed into the apartment. His eyes turned to the Fae and he scoffed slightly. “Worried? About you?” He smirked.
Sydney sipped from her coffee and stifled a chuckle from the interactions between the three. When Logan greeted her she smiled to him, “Good morning.” She replied.
“Is that highborn awake?” Myles questioned before he took another drink. He walked over to the coffee pot and poured the last cup, almost begrudgingly. He placed it on the counter for Logan and raised a brow as he looked to him a moment. “I’m surprised she hasn’t kicked and screamed all night.” He commented.
“S-she was a captive for three y-years.” Sydney spoke up swiftly, her lips pressed together. “I bet s-sleep was nice.” She shut her eyes a moment. She hated the stutter that she developed from her nerves. Why was she so nervous? Everything made her nervous. Everything seemed to give her anxiety. It was all new to her to be away from the Academy where she was told each and every move to make. “Maybe.” She stood and walked over to the counter, where Myles had poured the cup for Logan. She grasped the mug and smiled to Logan. “You don’t mind?” She asked, but she didn’t seem to want an answer.
Sydney walked to the door and pulled it open, she stepped down the wooden stairs then. Myles looked to Myra with a surprised glance. “I can’t figure your sister out. One minute she’s shaking like a leaf...the next she’s confident enough to walk right up to a damn highborn Fae. After said Fae nearly broke her neck...” He finished off his coffee and then rushed down the stairs after Sydney.
**
Sydney walked into the room. She walked forward and knelt next to the bed. “Jada.” She kept her voice soft, calm. “Do you like coffee?” She gazed to the book upon the woman’s chest that rose and fell slowly as she slept. The floor creaked slightly as Myles stepped into the room, he leaned against the wall and crossed his arms over his chest as he watched.
Sydney glanced to him a moment before she set the coffee upon the table next to the couch. She touched Jada’s shoulder and gave a gentle squeeze. “Jada.” She spoke again.
Jada’s eyes opened, the emerald color was full of life. Of magic. She gasped slightly and sat up. Myles shifted, ready to defend the witch. Sydney gave a gentle smile to the Fae. Jada looked to Myles a moment and then to the book that she’d read. She watched as Sydney held the coffee toward her. The highborn looked to the jet black drink for a long moment before a smirk curved up her lips. “I almost killed you and you’re the one that brought me coffee?” She took the coffee and sipped from the mug. “Apologies for that. I do believe I was tired and well...quite injured...you saved me though.” She watched Sydney curiously. “Thank you for that.” She smiled before her eyes looked to Myles. “I see the demon is still here.” She spoke with a bit of agitation. “Where’s….what was her name?” She tapped her fingertips upon the mug. She then looked to Sydney. “Your sister. Where is she?” She asked as her magic swirled within her hues.
