Rhys Alister Power is something that seems to corrupt many. Those with a chance at higher power such as the noble kings and queens of the kingdoms. Well, it seemed to go either way. Corruption or purity. Some led with a gentle hand, cared for their kingdom. Others seemed to crush those beneath them, fueling their power and life as they knew it by causing pain and destruction. The kingdom of Balay was a kingdom known around the world. It was one of power, it held all of the cards. Battle mages were strung up in chains and forced to fight for their queen. These dark times begun during the time of their lovely queen. It was nearly a century ago that she took the throne, and over that course of time Balay had taken down all of the kingdoms on the continent. It was the almighty, other kingdoms feared Balay. It was a rolling force that crushed the surrounding areas with ease. The Battle Mage army made this an easy accomplishment. ** “What are you doing Rhys?” A woman asked. “You’re going to get yourself killed.” She pulled at the arm of a man that flipped through the pages of an old book quickly. “Where did you even get that?” Chains dangled from her wrists with glowing inscriptions around the cuffs. The man paused to look to her, he had deep blue eyes and dark short messy hair. “I won’t fight for her.” He spoke and shook his head. “I would rather lose my life than kill more innocents.” He turned his attention back to the book that he began flipping through once again. “You plan to escape? I’ve already tried it.” Another man spoke from the shadows. They were all dressed in the same black and silver cloaks. They were the queen’s mages. “No. I plan to stop her from ever happening.” Rhys spoke as he stopped on a page. “If she never comes to gain the throne from her father, this can never happen. I’ll stop her before she turns into the monster that she is...and then...your family won’t die….and neither will mine.” He gave a soft smile as he glanced to the woman that still held his arm. He was the mage that stormed her home with the queens soldiers to take her from her family. He was the one that was forced to kill her husband and children. Rhys had been forced to kill so many. If he revolted the soldiers held devices, remote controls that would make the mages wish they had followed their orders from the beginning. “Rhys...” The woman spoke as the sound of a door opening at the end of the cell corridor echoed through the cold damp halls. “There’s no time. It’s now or never.” Rhys spoke as he turned his attention back to the page. He held the book in one hand as he began to speak the lines of the spell. White lines glowed on his face, his eyes began to glow and a small ball of energy began to form in his hand. “What are you doing in there mage?!” One of the soldiers stood at the door to their cell. He fumbled quickly through his pouch searching for the keys to put an end to Rhys’ magic. “Stop that right now! You’ll regret it when you sit before the queen tomorrow morning!” The soldier ordered. “I’ll shock you until you can’t breathe!” Rhys paid no attention to the man as he waved his hand about, following the words upon the page, even the spine of the book began to glow. As the door to the cell burst open Rhys slammed his hand into the floor and was engulfed in the bluish white power that he’d created. The soldier covered his eyes until the light dissipated. Then as he rushed forward into the cell he saw two molten hot cufflinks upon the floor and a piles of ashes where Rhys had been standing. He was gone… ** The heat of the sun kissed against Rhys’ cheek, that was the first thing to bring him to. Next however the pain within his muscles, it felt as though he had been dropped from a cliff...several thousand times. Rhys’ eyes cracked open and he found himself staring up to the tops of tall conifer trees within a forest. The sunlight peeked through the pines that swayed to the gentle breeze. He slowly pushed himself up and glanced around the thick woods. “Where am I…?” He spoke out loud as his eyes took in the gorgeous scenery. He looked down to his wrists, no more shackles. The book sat within his lap. A smile slowly curved up his lips as he came to the realization that the spell must have worked. He must have traveled back through time. He could only hope that he’d gone fare enough. Rhys lifted himself to his feet, he staggered slightly as his stiff muscles fought against him. Though before long his walk was smooth and even. He walked until he came to the edge of the forest, his eyes looked to the mountain that he’d known all of his life, another smile. He chuckled as he saw a wagon upon a trail up ahead. People out in the open, not a soldier in sight. He must have turned back time. He grinned as he walked forward to the trail. It took him nearly three hours to make it to the city. When he approached Balay it looked nothing like he remembered. It was small, yet mighty. Ships docked at the shore, the trade market was bustling. He walked through the crowd, a smile still upon his lips. The streets looked nothing like this now. Merchants feared even stepping into the light without the queen’s approval. He glanced to the castle, it appeared the same. The walls were built high into the sky. He ran into someone then and reached out to grasp the woman’s shoulders. “Apologies.” He spoke as his eyes connected with her. The woman looked to him her brows pulled together slightly as she looked over his robes. “Where are you from? You were looking at the castle, hm?” Rhys steadied her and then looked to his robes. “I’m a battle mage from the east. Just traveling through.” He gave a smile. “I’ve never seen the grand castle of Balay, it’s quite beautiful.” “Battle mage?” The woman questioned. “Huh. Well don’t forget to stop in the market, we have plenty to trade.” She spoke with a smile before she hurried off. Rhys watched after her. The woman had no idea what a battle mage was. This...was good. He took in a breath as he walked forward through the streets. “Come one! Come all! The king is looking for an advisor to the princess! Many will try. Only one will succeed.” The man belted as he stood upon a crate. “Advisor…?” He pondered for a moment. He tilted his head slightly before he smirked. “Where do I go for this audition sir?” He questioned as he looked up to the man. “I could be of use.” The man looked down to him and chuckled. “Anyone can try.” He smirked, “Why don’t you make your way to the castle good sir?” Rhys nodded and smiled. “Thank you.” He spoke as he turned and headed toward the castle. He looked to the soldiers. Their armor was shined and beautiful. Unlike the black armor that they wore in his time. He was stopped by a few guards at the gate to which he stated his purpose and he was checked for weapons. Was this a time that mages were not well known? He knew that there was a time in history where mages were few and far between. That was how Balay took the continent in storm. He walked into the castle led by a knight. His eyes looked about as he was led into the grande hall where many others stood. “You will wait until you are called upon.” The knight spoke before he left Rhys. Rhys looked around at the others, he appeared to be the youngest here. That might prove as an obstacle. Though he had wisdom. He had knowledge of what would happen...he had to gain the king’s attention. Somehow...

Princess Ivy Thaemos
It was another splendid day. Birds were chirping, the sun shone down on the town, and there was even a soft northern breeze to help keep everyone cool. It was a day that the royal family was only more than happy to put their wealth and fortune on display. The old King's favorite trinket to display was his eldest daughter. Usually members of the royal family were dressed exceptionally well with only the finest linens and silks, but they were often modest and reserved. The princess however was a completely different story. She wore silks and linens of the finest make but the clothes were designed to put her on display more than keep her form modest. Her father was proud of the "perfect" woman who would some day take over his throne and he wanted everyone to know just how the gods had blessed them. Today, being that it was so lovely, was a bit of a special day as well. The King had decided to open his gate and welcome those that thought themselves worthy to teach and guide his daughter in her studies. She was being taught many different practices to make sure she was more than ready to take the throne when he passed. Like a good daughter and princess Ivy had offered her father no protests and excelled in all her studies, even if she found the subject boring and dreadful. "Father, do I really need another teacher?" She asked as a crowd of potential instructors gathered outside the throne room. She was standing next to the King, on his left side, dressed in bright red and gold hues. Her hair was brushed and braided with jewels weaved into the locks in addition to the tiara that sat upon her head. She looked more like a trophy than a person as she stood in a somewhat posed position, leaning against the backrest of the grand throne her father sat upon. "Yes, my dear. You must learn all you can before I go. You will be the best ruler this kingdom has seen yet. Even better than I." He said with a chuckle as he was rather excited to see what else could be taught to his daughter. "Let them in." He stated towards the guards posted on either side of the double doors. He straightened his pose, checked that Ivy was in position as well, and then faced forward as a crowd of men and women began to pour into the throne room. "Welcome!" His voice boomed throughout the hall. "Each of you believe that you hold some sort of knowledge or quality deserving of our princess. I will hear what each of you have to offer, and if you can afford a demonstration of what you can offer I might be more inclined to accept your offer." He chuckled as if he had just told a joke. "Otherwise, make your cases convincing. Only the best for Princess Ivy." As the crowd had poured into the room Ivy's seemed to glance over each individual. Old men and women who hoped that their wisdom would be enough to persuade the king to take them under his employ. There was one man however that seemed far younger and she raised her eyebrow in interest but she did not smile. She remained posed against the throne as she waited to hear what each person had to offer.

Rhys waited patiently as he glanced to those around him. They seemed eager to enter the throne room. Ready to show their king what they had to offer. What did he have to offer? This was something that he would have to answer quickly. When they were summoned into the room Rhys watched as the men and women around him seemed to smile at the king’s announcement. He found himself looking to the princess. She was stunning. Though, he felt like she was on display rather than standing before him as the princess of the kingdom. He looked to the book that he held within his hand and he drew in a breath. Something that none of the others could offer seemed to be magic. He listened to those that offered wisdom of their life. Nothing seemed to catch the king’s eye. Rhys waited and watched he was the last to walk into the grand hall after all, so he must go last.
When it was finally his turn he stepped up to stand before the king. “My king. Princess.” He bowed deeply. “I have traveled from the east, a small village that I do not expect you to know. I may appear quite young, but I can assure you that I carry more wisdom than most in this room. With you as an exception of course my king.” He smiled, he played the part of jester well. “I know of things that the princess has yet to see, and that perhaps may never come to be.” He let his eyes move to Ivy as he lifted the book. “Perhaps you’ve heard of a battle mage?” He asked though he did not expect an answer. “A mage that can protect you from nearly anything, your highness. I can teach you strategies to protect the kingdom from any future threats. Balay will be safe so long as I am allowed to advise you.” He brought his hand up and spoke a few words in an ancient language the bring a ball of magic to form in his hand. He took his hand and grasped the ball to stretch it to form a small portal like display. Upon it the princess stood upon the balcony. This was a projection of her future. It was something that Rhys had seen with his own eyes in the early years. The crowd cheered as she spoke to them, though the words were incomprehensible. With a wave of his hand the portal turned into a ball once again and disappeared, his eyes glowed for a moment longer before settling upon the deep ocean blue.
“I can teach Princess Ivy many things my king.” He smiled. “Language, history, battle strategy, even dance.” He smirked as his eyes fell upon her again to see if there was any reaction. “A mage is a good thing to have on your side, my king.” He bowed deeply and stepped away for anyone else to perform for the king and the princess.

As the various elders carried on about their life experiences Ivy grew more bored. She hoped that nothing would catch her father's interest. To have to sit for hours and listen to such stories would only lull her to sleep. She even gave a small sigh that only her father could hear to let him know she wasn't impressed with what was being offered, and by his expression he wasn't really impressed either. When the last individual finally came up to present what knowledge he had to offer Ivy lifted her head from leaning against the throne to listen to him more carefully.
The man had bold claims of wisdom and knowledge. When he summoned the ball of magic however the King rose from his seat, which startled Ivy as well as everyone else around them. "A mage?!" He asked in a tone in-between outrage and intrigue. The entire room grew still as the King stood staring at Rhys. "Everyone is dismissed." He finally stated. "Everyone except you mage." He said in a more calm tone before lowering himself back down into his seat and leaning against the arm as he rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "I haven't seem a mage in years. Before Ivy was even born.." He stated. "Could you teach these magics to my daughter?"

Rhys watched the king, his shock at the display of magic before him. How quickly he dismissed the others. He stood before the two and a smile formed on his lips. “If she is willing to be taught. Yes, magic can be a learned art. I cannot promise how strong of a mage she will become. Though I will teach her what I know and perhaps she will become one of the greats.” He looked to Ivy a moment before he brought his attention back to the king.
“We will start small.” He held his hand behind his back and with an exhale of air he brought a beautiful rose from behind his back. “I’ll teach her anything she would like to know my king.” He held the rose forward. “Princess.” He bowed his head as he offered the flower toward her. It was a stunning rose, perfect down to each pedal that held a bit of water upon it as if he had plucked it from a valley during a summer rain.

The King seemed to focus on Rhys's words intently as he spoke and described how he could instruct his daughter in the arcane arts. A ruler who could use magic was a ruler who would re-write history, and that's what he wanted for his Kingdom and successor. "You, my boy, have earned the position. You will instruct Ivy and teach her everything you know. Your lessons will take precedence over her other instructors. When would you like her to attend your lessons? Morning, evening? And you'll be compensated handsomely as well. Also.. My apologies I don't believe I caught your name." The King seemed exceptionally pleased. Never would he have imagined a mage would walk through is doors and offer his services to his family.
When Rhys had approached Ivy with the rose she gave him a small smile as she accepted the gift. The first expression she had given anyone since the crowd had first piled into the throne room. She was just as intrigued in the man as her father was, but perhaps for different reasons. All she had learned about the world was through the memories and eyes of someone else, but perhaps he could give her a different perspective. Not to mention the chance to learn magic was something even she would not pass up.

Rhys grinned to the king, “Thank you my king.” He bowed deeply. This was going much better than he could have thought possible. He was even given options as to when he would instruct the princess. He would take precedence? He would have never thought the king to be such a generous man. Yet he kept glancing to the princess. Where was the evil queen that he knew? When would be the moment that she snapped? Perhaps he just hadn’t seen it yet. Soon enough he knew that he would get her alone. That would be the moment that he could end the destruction before it even began. He could take her life in exchange for all the lives that she would take in the future. For all the pain that she would cause. One life was far better than the thousands of innocents that she killed with a smile upon her lips.
“I shall teach the princess when she deems it best to be taught, my king.” He then looked to the king and gave a smile. “I have traveled quite a far distance in hopes that you would choose me as an advisor for your daughter and I am very thankful that you have done so.” He bowed deeply then. The smile that he’d received from the princess when she took the rose stuck in his mind. It was a warm smile, nothing like the wicked smile that he was so used to. The cackle of evil that came from the woman’s lips. Was this not the same Princess Ivy of Balay? The show would soon fall. That is what he told himself. He would see her true evil yet. Though, did he even have to see that side of her for her to become the destructive queen that would one day conquer the continent?

"You would have my daughter choose when her lessons are?" The King asked and glanced back to his daughter who was still holding the rose with a delicate grip between her fingers. The red color went well with her clothing and soft pale skin. Though he was unsure whether or not he wanted her to decided on when her lessons took place. Would she want to learn from the man or would she avoid it?
"Perhaps I should show my new instructor to his quarters?" She said in her soft voice, nothing like the strong authoritative tone she held in the future. "If he has traveled as far as he said surely he would like to rest before beginning any lessons." She offered the King and let her gaze shift back to the mage along with the King's.
"Yes, of course. Princess Ivy will show you to a set of private chambers that you will use while you are instructing her here. Before beginning any lessons however I would like you to find me once you've rested and gotten something to eat, which Ivy will see to it that you are well taken care of. I have a few rules that must be followed when it comes to my daughter. I'm sure you understand." He said and then waved his hand to dismiss his daughter.
Ivy finally removed herself from the side of the throne and stepped down the duel steps that lead up to the throne itself before motioning for Rhys to follow her. Her long red gown flowed behind her as she walked and her jewelry adorning her waist, wrists and ankles jingled slightly as she moved. Once they were outside the throne room and in the corridor she turned to walk down the hall, but slowed her pace to walk along side her newest instructor. "So what is this small village I've probably never heard of that you hale from? I have studied many different provinces and neighboring Kingdoms that I might know which it is that such a talented and skilled mage is from." She said to him without so much as casting a glance towards him.

Rhys only smiled to the king’s question. “Of course my king, if she chooses the time it will be more valuable than assigning it to her. I’ve trained more than one mage in my time.” He bowed his head. It was then that the princess spoke up, her voice was soft. It was nothing like the woman he knew from the future. He looked to her and watched her actions curiously. She wanted to show him to his room, because he was exhausted from travel. She cared that he was tired and needed rest? It was an odd thing to think that the woman that devastated the continent would care about the rest of a mage.
He turned his attention back to the king as he spoke. The princess would see to it that he was taken care of? Why the princess? He imagined servants handling the food and taking him to his room. Not the princess herself. It was a lowly duty, something that royalty didn’t truly need to be doing. That is why they had servants. To wait on them hand and foot. Was this before the time of such things? He had seen plenty of servants in the future, the queen barely had to lift a finger if she didn’t want to. She could have anything she wanted. Everyone feared her. But...she did not wield magic in the future….Rhys pressed his lips together slightly at this thought. If he gave her magic, that would only add fuel to the fire. He couldn’t allow her to live. He would wait and when the time was right he would strike. Even if it ended in his own death.
“Of course my king. Also, my name is Rhys Alister, I may have forgotten that piece in the excitement.” He gave a warm smile and bowed again. “Such an honor to have the princess herself show me around the castle.” He turned his eyes to her as she came down from the side of the throne. He gave another bow to the king before he turned to follow the princess. He couldn’t help but look to the jewelry that she wore upon her body, she was dressed to perfection. He couldn’t remember a time that the queen in the future dressed in such a way. She looked more like a trophy than anything else. When she slowed and walked alongside him Rhys turned his attention to her, his eyes caught hers and he raised a brow slightly. She questioned him about where he was from, she seemed so confident that she would know. Rhys smiled to her, “Ah, a challenge for you, hm? You would rise to the challenge.” He drew his brows together slightly as he realized that she wasn’t even giving him the time of day, no eye contact at all. Not even a glance.
He looked forward then, his eyes looking to the castle, the statues. Some of the castle felt the same. Pieces that he’d seen many times while he was pulled around by the queen in the future. He was one of her strongest mages. He had the most explosive powers, especially when provoked properly by the devices that she had created. He cleared his throat then as he realized the amount of silence he had allowed to gather over the two. “Apologies for the pause, I’ve never been in such a magnificent castle. The small town that I am from is called, Lockren. I do not expect you to know it.” He didn’t offer her a glance as he smirked. “Most do not, and that is how my city would like to be kept.” The city he spoke of most likely didn’t exist in this time, which he knew, that was his reason for giving the name to her. He knew that Lockren formed early on in revolt against the queen and her soldiers as she gathered battle mages to destroy the cities around Balay. Lockren was filled with mages, much like himself, that did not want to fall into her hands. Of course, it was a failed attempt, otherwise he would not stand where he stood now. His job was to get close enough to kill her and if he were lucky...return to his time to see the beauty of the world without fear.

Ivy glanced his way only once as he let a long silence pass between them, but her gaze shifted forward again quickly as they made their way down the twisting halls of the palace. When he finally spoke up she titled her head slightly has he mentioned the town's name from which he haled. Indeed she had not heard of such a place before which only intrigued her even more. "A mysterious man from a mysterious place with powers unlike my father has seen before. You are just a puzzle wrapped in an enigma aren't you, Master Alister?" She gave him an amused smile and slowed her pace to a stop as they approached a dark oaken door. "Here are your chambers." She stated and opened the door to reveal a large room filled with luxurious furnishings.
The room looked as if it were prepared to receive royalty rather than a commoner guest. There was a large bear skin rug laying out on the floor, a fire burning in the hearth, and glittering silver inlaid in the bed frame, dresser and tall backed chairs around a large dinning table that sat off to the right side of the room. Ivy stood to the side to allow Rhys to enter and explore his new quarters for a moment and watched with an expression of mild interest. "Are you hungry? I can have a meal brought to you. Or if you prefer I can give you a tour of the palace grounds so that you are more familiar with the area."
The entire time she spoke she hardly took her dark eyes off of Rhys. It was as if she were trying to figure him out in a way. To understand where it was he came from. She also had a hard time believing that someone like himself would come all this way just to teach her. Sure, she was the princess and heir to the throne but he could not have been from this country and that begged the question.. where exactly where he was from.

Rhys grinned to her as she spoke, “Ah that may be a correct assumption, yes.” He couldn’t help but smile as he looked to the amused smile upon her lips. Though as he looked to his chambers his jaw loosened slightly, his brows rose. This had to be a mistake, the king would not put him in such find quarters. Not a commoner like himself. He stepped forward into the room as he looked over the furniture, he stepped to the balcony before she spoke. He turned his eyes to her and then he gave a nod. “A tour of the palace would be nice.” He could see how different the castle was, see if there was a secluded area that he could get her into for the kill. Each step that he took would be toward his goal. “I’m not entirely hungry right now, I grabbed a bite in the market before I entered the castle. Simple bread, nothing extraordinary.” He looked to the fine furniture again. “Are you certain that this is where I am to rest my head? It is a very noble room for a commoner such as myself.” He spoke as he looked to her. He could feel her eyes upon him. “Though I am thankful for the lovely accommodation princess.” He bowed then to her. “Would it trouble you much for that tour? I would love to see the castle grounds. It is such a magnificent building. The architecture is just brilliant.”
He seemed to be analyzing her as well. She offered him willingly a tour of the castle. She seemed mildly interested in him. He had made himself quite mysterious. That was the whole point. The more attention he could get from her, the easier this would be. The more she became interested in him the easier it would be to lure her away from the eyes and ears of the knights. The easier it would be to put an end to the future devastation that she would bring. “If you would princess, what form of magic do you wish to learn?” He asked his eyes watched her closely. “Dark magic? It is very destructive and even dangerous. Light magic? You could heal those wounded. Save the world even if you like. Or something in-between? There are no dark mages or light mages like some believe. We can be well rounded.” He gave a smile as he awaited her response.

When he denied being hungry and opted for a tour instead Ivy gave a nod of agreement. She wasn't quite ready for the evening meal either and so a chance to get out, walk around, and perhaps learn a little more about her new instructor was something she wasn't going to pass up. "My father allots the best rooms for my instructors so that they are well rested when they give me lessons. He doesn't want fatigue to hinder you and prevent my lessons from reaching their full potential." Ivy explained in response to his obvious disbelief.
The question of what magic she wished to learn caused her to tilt her head to the side with curiosity. He was giving her a choice instead of simply trying to fill her mind with endless amounts of information. "You are allowing me to choose which I would like to learn?" She asked aloud before giving the question a moment's thought. "My father would have you teach me healing. To give me magic that would impress the other nobles with my abilities. However.." She paused for a moment and checked over her shoulder as if she would be afraid that someone was listening. "I've only heard of stories of magic, which I hope you understand, so I'm not really knowledgeable of the full scope of the choice you've set before me. Why don't you start with what you started with? Perhaps some principle basics and I can perhaps tell you once I learn a little more of the magics you might teach me. Though I don't think black magic would be something I'm interested in. I couldn't imagine hurting another person on purpose like that of the twisted magics I've read about in stories."

Rhys watched her as she spoke of the accommodations that the king supplied him with. It was a fair argument. If he was not well rested he possibly would not provide the best of his abilities to her. “Why would I not allow the princess to choose what she wants to learn?” He asked with a smirk upon his lips. “You are the future queen, what you wish is what I will provide you with. If I see something that I feel you should learn that you have not asked to learn, I will offer it.” He then listened to her response. Of course the king would have her learn healing, he was known as one of the most kind kings of the past. Rhys always wondered how such a tyrant had come from such a noble history. Balay was such a peaceful land before the queen took over and caused her destruction.
He studied her as she spoke, the way she looked over her shoulder...this was it...this was the moment that she was going to reveal the black pit of her soul to him and ask for him to teach her the dark magics. Though he tilted his head slightly to her response. She didn’t know much of magic. That was to be expected, he knew that mages were few and far between in this day and age. She wanted to start from the beginning, she wanted to truly learn the magic. Though the next words that came from her mouth caused him to raise his brows. She couldn’t imagine hurting someone. A smile came to his lips to hide his surprise. “Ah yes, the stories of what can be done with the dark magics.” He nodded and cleared his throat slightly. “There are unspeakable things that can be done. I and very delighted to hear that you actually want to learn from the basics, that you do not want to simply jump feet first into the pond. So to speak.” He nodded and then looked to the open door. “I could teach you something, if you show me somewhere that we will not get scolded for me teaching you.” He grinned then, it was an almost mischievous grin. “I am your instructor, so I will do as you please, Princess.” He was nearly certain that none of her other instructors were as young as he was, nor did they allow her a choice in anything.

Ivy listened intently as Rhys complimented her on her choice to learn the basics. It was always the best place to start in any of her lessons. When others had tried to jump ahead she found they always ended up circling back anyways. Though his reaction didn't quite match his expression when she mentioned this and it was something she refrained from pointing out for the moment. His request to go somewhere where he could teach her in private was also a red flag, and she got an uneasy feeling immediately as he smirked at her. "No, we'll keep lessons in the usual place. The library your courtyard, whichever is more appropriate." It was obvious she didn't trust him and wanted to remain where the guards could keep an eye on them.
"Besides, before any lessons begin you must have a word with my father on the rules that you're to follow. For instance it's forbidden for anyone to touch me. If you were to lay even a single finger upon me you would be cast out from the castle." As she spoke her voice was gentle, if not a little exasperated with her own annoyance with the rule. The King wouldn't have anyone blemish his heir and she was to remain completely untouched, as much as possible, until it was time for her to find a suitor.

Rhys watched the princess closely. He’d made her uncomfortable. He gave a smile as she turned down his offer. “Good.” He spoke as he stood perfectly still. He didn’t want to give her any idea that he had an intent to harm her. “I was simply testing you princess, no need to worry. Some mages are greedy. I wanted to see where your heart was...to make sure that you would not give into greed. You can trust me, I assure you. We will train once I have spoken with your father and we will cover as much or at little as you like.” He nodded, “I apologize if I made you uncomfortable. I didn’t mean anything by it.” He took a few steps toward the door. “I will not lay a finger on you princess. I am very good at following orders.”
Rhys took in a breath. Her reaction surprised him. The protection that the king held over her also surprised him. The fact that she didn’t want to diverge from her father’s orders shocked him even more. The queen he knew would break a rule if she knew it would get her ahead. Anything to make her more powerful. At what point did she become that monster? Or had he just not found the monster lurking beneath this perfect presentation? He paused and looked to her, “Unless you do not wish to tour the castle. I do understand Princess.” He bowed his head toward her then.
