Skylar stared at the news screen as Eva spoke. She clicked the television away and climbed onto the bed next to her as she asked if it had anything to do with the case. Skylar was just about to speak when she heard the voice of the Outsider. Skylar turned her head as he spoke, she stared to him with wide eyes. Skylar watched as the man teleported to the doorway and back to the edge of the bed. She drew her brows together as he mentioned that she would climb to become a Grand Reaper, whatever that was. “How?” She asked, just before the bright flash. Skylar shielded her eyes and took in a quick breath. “Eva?” She asked as her eyes focused. Skylar leaned forward, her hand touched Eva’s shoulder. “Eva?” She asked again. “Eva!” She shook her. Skylar brushed her hand against Eva’s cheek, she searched over her. “What…did he do to you?” She whispered softly. Skylar watched as Eva took in even breaths, she looked so peaceful. “Eva…” She fumbled with her hands, trying to think. She looked around the room. “What did you do to her?!” She screamed, a rush of air burst through the room, shadows crawled along the floors, her eyes burned the color of the flames in the fireplace. Laughter came from behind her. Skylar spun around to star into Remi’s eyes, a grin upon his lips. “You knew he would do this?” She gripped him pulling him down to her level, she glared into his eyes. “Huh? You knew, didn’t you?”
Remi slammed his hand into her chest harshly. The world around her spun out of control before all time ceased, her body was suspended in the air, headed toward the ground. Skylar floated in her spirit form, she looked down to her wispy body, to her hands as she became solid again. Remi stood with crossed arms. She rushed forward and slammed her fist into his jaw. He allowed her to get in several hits before he once again slammed her back. He gripped onto her and slammed her back into her body just as it hit the floor.
Skylar’s eyes shot open and she gasped for air. “Sky?” Mavis spoke, he had his arm around her shoulders. “You’re okay.” He glanced over her worried expression as she stared to him. “What happened?” He asked softly as he helped her to her feet. “You…weren’t breathing…”
Skylar stared to her father for a long moment, she took in a slow breath. Her mind began to race as she stared to the motionless Eva on the bed. “Something has happened, something happened when those men attacked. I think Eva may have been poisoned.” She lied. “I was light headed, I may have something wrong too, father, I need to get to the hospital.”
Mavis searched his daughter’s eyes, “Of course, Booker will take you, I’ll get him and have him take you….” He stared at her, worry in his eyes. “You weren’t breathing…” He stated again. When her soul left her body, so did all life. In this world it was as if she was dead.
“I’m okay.” Skylar gave a weak smile, was she? She then stepped over to the bed and took in a deep breath. She stared at Eva. “It’s going to be okay.” She sat on the edge of the bed and brushed Eva’s hair from her eyes. Skylar lifted her phone from the bed and dialed Ayla. She held the phone to her ear. “Ayla, how’s Ren?” She asked and fell silent for a long moment as she listened to the ramblings of her long time best friend. “Good, I’m glad she’s going to be okay.” Skylar gave a small smile. “Listen, something has happened to Eva, I’m going to bring her to you…I’ll explain later, okay?” Skylar ran her fingertips along Eva’s jaw and cheek, tracing over her features. She remembered the feeling of the spirit world, from Olyver. She remembered the cold that Olyver felt, how she appeared before Mavis and Eva, guiding them to her nearly dead body. This was the key. She hoped. Skylar looked to the door as her father and Booker came back into the room.
Booker carefully scooped Eva into his arms, he gave a gentle smile to Skylar. “Don’t worry, Miss Greystoke.” He gave a nod before he carried her from the room.
Mavis hugged Skylar gently, “We’ll be at the car.” He spoke before he left the room.
Skylar hurried around the room and dressed herself in a pair of tattered jeans and a black v-neck before she rushed down the stairs in a pair of flats that she slipped on quickly. She grabbed her parka from the coat hanger as she ran outside to the car and climbed into the backseat with Mavis and Eva. The car started off just as soon as she was inside. Skylar stared to Eva, a knot formed in her stomach, her bit at her lower lip.
“Ayla will take good care of her.” Mavis gave a gentle smile. “She’s the best, right?” He let out a soft chuckle.
“I’m not even sure Ayla can fix this…” Skylar mumbled as she brushed Eva’s hair from her forehead. She looked outside then, watching as the snowy buildings rushed by. As they neared the hospital Skylar texted Ayla to let them know they were almost there. She gave a soft chuckle as they pulled up and there Ayla was, ready with a gurney.
Mavis lifted Eva up into his arms, he stared down to Eva as he carefully moved from the car and set her on the gurney. “Don’t give up.” He squeezed her hand. “You’ve too much of a life ahead of you, to give up.” He then turned to Skylar whom hugged him tightly. Mavis froze for a moment before he wrapped his arms around his daughter. “It’ll be okay, Sky.” He kissed the top of her head as he held her there. He gave a nod to Ayla as she pushed the gurney off into the hospital.
Skylar pulled back, “I hope so.” She whispered before she ran off to catch up with Ayla. She helped push the gurney into one of the ICU rooms. Skylar clicked the door shut as she watched Ayla at work.
“So, tell me what happened Sky.” Ayla looked up as she prepared an IV line. She opened packages and hung the bag before she screwed a line to it.
“So, a God, the Outsider, he is called, appeared. That is Eva’s God…the reason she has powers, she is to replace him one day. Um…”
“Go on, Sky.” Ayla tightened a tourniquet and tapped Eva’s arm, finding a good vein.
“He showed up and reminded her that she has duties, that she isn’t allowed to be here…and when he disappeared there was this blast of light, and he was gone, and she hasn’t moved….I can’t get her to wake at all.” Skylar spoke quickly, nearly blurting out the information.
Ayla lined up the needle and poked it into Eva’s vein. She smiled as she saw the flash of blood. She slipped everything into place and started the line. “Well…” She stepped back and crossed her arms for a moment as she looked Eva over. Ayla stepped forward and lifted Eva’s eyelids, shining a pen light into each eye, nothing. “It doesn’t look good…whatever he did…Skylar, Eva is in a coma…I…I can run tests, but, this doesn’t look very good…” Ayla turned, her eyes sad.
Skylar lowered her eyes, she stepped forward and gripped Eva’s hand. “I…can do something.” She spoke softly. “This coma isn’t from things of this world, it is from magic, his magic caused this…”
Ayla watched Skylar for a long moment, “What do you plan on doing? If you can fix it, why did you come to me?” A bit of worry was in her voice in that moment.
Skylar bit her lip, “This is going to sound completely insane, I’m just preparing you.” She turned, her hand slipped from Eva’s. She stared at Ayla for a long moment. “I’m going to need you to keep her alive, and watch over me, because I may or may not stop breathing when I go to find her…and she may or may not die when I find her soul and pull it from the spirit world…”
Ayla furrowed her brows, she crossed her arms and took in a deep breath. “You were right to put a disclaimer at the beginning…” She muttered softly. Ayla stepped over to the window and stared out over the city, she let out a long slow breath, “I’m going to have to lie on a lot of paperwork to do this, Skylar…” She turned and sat on the window sill. “But…if you think this is the only way…I’m in…” Ayla looked to the doorway as Ren stepped through, she had a sling on. “Ren…I told you to wait for me.” Ayla stepped to her side. “You’re always so stubborn.” She kissed her cheek and helped her to a chair.
“I had to come see what was going on. What happened?” Ren looked to Skylar with curious eyes.
Skylar bit at her lower lip, “Magic happened.” She spoke softly. She then turned her attention to Ayla. “How do you want to do this?” She asked.
Ayla took in a breath. “Give me a second.” She disappeared from the room.
Skylar moved to Eva’s side where she held onto her hand again. “I’m coming for you, Eva.” She spoke softly. “If I see the Outsider again I’m going to break his neck.”
“You should.” The world around her flooded with shadows, time stopped. “That would be excellent.” Remi chuckled deeply. He stood at the end of the hospital bed, his fingers curled over the plastic footrest. “This idea you’ve conjured up. It’s brilliant.” He chuckled.
“Where is Lucille? Can’t she help me?” Skylar snapped, her brows furrowed.
Remi began to laugh then until Skylar gripped him around his throat. He slammed her to her back on the floor. “Why don’t you call for her?” He glared at her and rubbed his neck. “I would appreciate it if you would stop attacking me every time I see you, Skylar. I’m just trying to help.” He snickered at the end as he gripped her by her own neck and lifted her up into the air. “Go ahead, cry for Lucille. I’ve already asked her for a favor, it’s hard to get her to come out just for fun.” He dropped Skylar then.
Skylar coughed and held her throat. She leaned against the bed. “How do I call her?” She asked.
Remi chuckled, “That’s for you to find out, Skylar.” He then disappeared into ashes. The shadows melted from the room.
Skylar took in a quick breath, her eyes were wide. She looked to the door as Ayla pushed in a gurney. “Hey…” Ayla stopped and came to Skylar’s side. “Are you okay?” She asked as she placed her hand on Skylar’s back. Her hand was warm, soothing. Skylar gave a nod. “Okay, I’m going to get everything ready.” Ayla spoke as she pushed the bed in next to Eva. She gathered supplies and eventually everything was in place. “Ren, I’m going to need you, if things really go downhill like Sky is thinking.” Ayla spoke as she helped Skylar onto the bed. She began hooking up an IV to Skylar. “Deep breath, little poke.” She spoke as she started the IV. Skylar grit her teeth and leaned her head back against the bed. “Alright.” Ayla secured the IV and looked over Ayla. “Let me just get you two hooked up to a few things.” She spoke as she zoomed about the room. She stuck heart monitor pads to Eva and Skylar, she attached other vital sign equipment to them and then took a step back. “Okay…so…how do we do this?” Ayla asked.
Skylar lay her head back, “Just….keep Eva alive.” She whispered softly before she shut her eyes. The world around her grew silent. She took in a sharp breath as an ice cold surrounded her body. She opened her eyes and found herself falling through an abyss of darkness. Skylar let out a cry as her body slammed harshly into the ground. She shuddered as pain rushed through her body. She grit her teeth and slowly stood up, she spun around, the world was fuzzy. She took a step, her feet felt heavy, as though her shoes were filled with water. “Eva?” She asked. The world rushed around her, spinning. She gasped for air as a wind pushed against her, memories flooded the world around her. She fell to her knees, blood dripped from her nose. Skylar gasped and fought to breathe as she stood herself up. She could see Eva in the distance. She ran forward and reached for her just as the ground gave out beneath her. “Eva!” She screamed as she fell.
Skylar felt the shadows rush around her, protecting her as she fell. She shut her eyes tightly and in the next moment she felt her feet upon the ground. Skylar opened her eyes, her breaths fast, her eyes wide. She found herself staring into Eva’s eyes. “Eva.” She gasped. She stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Eva, “I thought I’d lost you…” She whispered and took a step back. “You…you need to wake up…” She reached forward, Skylar grasped onto Eva’s soul. Memories flooded her and swirled around her, she grit her teeth and turned. She ran forward in a sprint and leaped off the edge of a cliff. Skylar let out a cry and shut her eyes tightly as the shadows enveloped them and they disappeared.
Skylar gasped as she stood in spirit form, she stared to Ayla as she shoved a tube down Eva’s throat and instructed Ren to squeeze the balloon to keep her alive. Skylar found herself frozen as she stared at this. She watched as her own body seized on the gurney that she lay on, blood dripped from her nose. Ayla rolled her body to the side, her eyes wide as she fought to get control over Skylar. Skylar’s spirit flickered and she lost control over Eva’s soul. She stared to Eva as she fought to stand. “You have to wake up.” She pleaded softly before she disappeared, unable to stay in the realm of spirits any longer. Once Skylar’s soul disappeared her body stopped seizing, she lay motionless on her side, breathing heavily.
Ayla stared for a moment at Skylar, “Sky?” She asked softly, “Skylar can you hear me?” She flashed the pen light into her eyes, Skylar’s eyes still fluttered. Ayla grit her teeth a moment, “Come on.” She pushed a drug into Skylar’s system. She moved back to Eva’s body and began hooking up the machines that would keep Eva alive, breathe for her. After a few moments the machine hissed away with each breath it let out. Ayla sat down, “Shit…” She muttered softly. “Ren…thank you.” She gave a tired smile to her wife.

Eva gasped - sitting upwards in a quick motion. Her hair flung forward – flinging a load of water forward as she was drenched. She was sitting in a few inches of water, some kind of dark beach. The world around her was gloomy and foggy. The water came up in waves, just the end of it touched her body. Slowly she stood and looked around…
“Where am I?” she spoke aloud. Her voice did not echo. It was eaten up swiftly, like speaking into a vacuum in space. She moved forward, her feet sinking into the soft sand. “Outsider?” she questioned. She stumbled forward – gaining her steps.
“He thinks he knows it all… he thinks he has fulfilled his true destiny… but this is not true” a voice came. It was a soft voice of a woman, it had some sort of mahogany tone to it. “He is a failure…” she spoke. Appearing before her was a woman. She wore a white silk dress that was very low cut, it had a slit up the leg, showing off much of her body, she was quite young, she looked no older than 20 or so. As she stood – two women stepped from behind her. The woman in the middle was middle aged, 30 or so. She was curvy, her breasts were quite large, her stomach flat and yet her hips round and plump. The oldest was short, she had bags under her eyes and wrinkly skin, her hair beginning to thin. The youngest had long dark black hair that was braided into one large braid that sat over her shoulder. The middle age had long red hair that tossed about in long waves. The oldest had short curly hair, that seem to have lost its shine.
“We are the Fates… I am Clotho” the youngest spoke. “Lachesis, and Atropos” she continued. “I am the one who spins the threads of fate, the creator of fate. Lachesis threads it, intertwining with other threads, other live, Atropos cuts these threads..” Clotho spoke, coming closer to Eva. She brought her hand up to Eva’s cheek and caressed it for a long moment.
“Your thread is one of the thickest… a winding story that seems to touch almost every other line about. Creating a chaotic mess of havoc, quite a thing to follow – such an entanglement..” she grinned. Atropos stepped forward, watching closely. “I even cut your line, but yet in your own persistence you seem to sprout again. Defying the rules of fate” Atropos spoke, her voice crackling and crude. “Do not fear my child” Lachesis spoke. Her voice was warm like a sweet fire, a little deeper than Clotho. “It is nothing I cannot handle...”
“The Outsider’s thread soon comes to its end… he tries to scare you to his same fate” Clotho spoke and then stepped aside, the two women following. “All things originate here. Even the god’s lines are ours to handle. They fight us, trying to control a string of hope that not even we can depict” Clotho continued, her back to her. “You will have to fight against that. Not knowing the role of the Outsider is even better than knowing, you will create this position as it was truly meant to be… do not succumb to the fear of the unknown…”
Lachesis then stepped forward and bowed her head. “We normally do not come forth to others, usually secluded away in our hole of webs. But… we have come to you. We urge you to follow your instinct, follow your true self. Do not become victim to the Outsider. Believe in your fate and it will remain true” she spoke and then they suddenly disappeared.
Eva stepped forward – looking to where they stood. Hanging from a thin thread was three smalls spiders, they suddenly merged together into one – and then crawled up their thread.
Eva turned then just as Skylar approached. “Sky!” she shouted and embraced her. “How did you – what are you - why are you here?” she questioned. Suddenly she was jerked away. Before she knew it she stood before her own body that was dying… staring to Skylar’s that writhed around.
Just as Skylar disappeared – Eva rushed forward. She slammed her soul into her body, forcing her way back to the world again.
Ren looked over to Skylar as her body calmed, giving a relieved sigh. She suddenly stood up when the power shut off. The machines that kept Eva alive quit working. Ren moved over to the side of the bed, her hands moving to Eva’s chest – to start compressions while Ayla gathered the tools.
Suddenly there was a huge flash of light – Eva gasped for air once more. Instantly she went into a coughing fit, as her throat felt scratched to hell. She heaved loudly until finally she calmed down. Her hands gripped the sides of the bed – “Where am I?” She panicked, looking around frantically. “What the” she then sat back down. The dreams. They were real. She had seen herself… seen Skylar – who lay next to her on the other bed.
“Sky – Skylar, god” she reached over and grabbed her hand. “She – she “ she let out a deep sigh. “Is she okay? She came and got me and – and she shouldn’t be in the world, she …”

Ayla rushed forward and carefully pulled the tube from Eva as she began to fight against the intubation in her sleep. “This is good…” She spoke softly. Then the flash of light blinded her, she winced as she placed her hand on Eva’s shoulder, getting her to relax the best she could. “Eva.” Ayla spoke, “You’re okay, you’re in the hospital.” She placed her hand over Eva’s, “You’re okay…” She then looked to Skylar whom lay on her back now, in a peaceful state of slumber. She took in a slow breath, “She’s okay…she just…she’s tired, Eva.” Ayla gave a weak smile. “She’s just tired.” Ayla gave a gentle smile to Ren as she yawned, she looked to her watch, it was late. She gave a gentle squeeze, “Skylar saved you, Eva.” She gave a smile, “She brought you back.” She gave a nod, “Before I met you, I would have never believed in magic, nor the possible existence, but now, I definitely do.” She smiled happily then. “Sky will be okay.” She turned and looked to Skylar for a moment.
The door pushed open, Mavis stepped in, he had a bouquet of flowers in a beautiful vase. His eyes fell on Skylar and his expression dropped. He then looked to Eva and took in a quick breath, “You’re okay.” He spoke softly. He brought the flowers and set them on the end table before he looked to Ayla for a moment. “Is Skylar okay?” He asked, worried.
“She’s fine, just tired, Sir.” Ayla spoke and gave a nod.
“This is horrible; we need to get to the bottom of this. Who would poison my daughter?” He shook his head. “Can she come home?” He asked. “Can Eva be released? I feel they would be more comfortable back home.”
Ayla gave a slight laugh. “Of course, just keep an eye on Sky for me.” She was busy unhooking everything from Eva. She wrapped bandaging around Eva’s arm and gave a gentle smile. “You’re not dizzy right?” She asked softly with a chuckle.
Mavis grinned, “I’ll get a wheelchair.” He turned and left the room.
Ayla carefully drew up a medication before she injected it into Skylar’s IV. She pushed fluids in for a moment before she disconnected everything from her as well and bandaged up her arm. “Eva, you call me if something happens okay?” She gave a gentle squeeze to her shoulder. “Anything.” She gave a nod. “Right babe?” She smiled to Ren whom was falling asleep in the lounge chair. She chuckled as Ren woke suddenly and gave a nod. Mavis came back into the room and helped Eva into the wheelchair. He then scooped his daughter up into his arms before the group stepped into the halls of the hospital. Ayla gave Eva a huge hug once they made it to the car. “Take care, Eva, I’ll see you soon.” She gave a smile as she helped her into the car. Ayla then hugged Mavis after he set Ayla down in the car. “Take care of her.” She spoke before she stepped off with Ren toward the car to head home.
Mavis looked to Eva as they drove back toward his home, he gave a gentle smile. “I’m glad you’re okay.” He gave a nod. “Skylar was right to bring you in last night.” He looked to the sun as it crept over the rooftops. The entire night had passed, Ayla scrambled through the night to keep the two alive while Skylar fought to save Eva. He was silent for the rest of the ride home. Once they arrived at the mansion he helped Eva into the home as Booker carried Skylar up to her room. Mavis helped Eva to the bed. “You should rest, when you’re hungry I will have food prepared for you two.” He smiled. He brushed Skylar’s cheek and sighed softly. “Sleep well.” He then stepped from the room.
Skylar turned in her sleep and snuggled into Eva’s side, she held onto Eva’s arm, pressing her nose into the nape of Eva’s neck. “Eva….” She muttered in her sleep, her lips brushed against Eva’s skin.
**
Skylar sat in the darkness, she shivered. She spun around to find herself staring into the eyes of Remi, he grinned. “You’ve outdone yourself.” He spoke as he clapped. “You pushed into the spirit world, you know, us reapers, we don’t belong there.” He noted. He stepped to an old withered tree and leaned against it as the snow began to fall around them. “You’re something else, Skylar Greystoke. Much more than I could have ever imagined. You will be something incredible one day.”
Skylar stared to him, “What is going on?” She asked as she looked around. “Where am I?”
“You’re dreaming, dear girl.” Remi smiled, “Or are you?” He chuckled.
Skylar took in a quick breath, “Where is Eva?” She narrowed her brows. “Where is she?” She took a step forward. She called upon her scythe. Remi grinned as he took grabbed his scythe. “What did you do with her?”
“Even if I had done something with her, I wouldn’t tell you, Skylar, this is going to be too much fun.” He swung his scythe at her.
Skylar winced as she blocked his attack. She shoved him back and kicked forward into his chest before she swung at him. Their scythes locked and clattered against each other. Skylar shoved him back, she knocked his scythe from his hands, and then the real battle began. Remi threw punches and blocked her shots. They went at it, a tangled web of shadows, the ground beneath them shook. Skylar let out a cry as his fist collided with her side several times. She then fought back, kneeing him in the abdomen before she hooked his head hard. Skylar eventually tackled him to the ground and threw a few punches into his jaw before she paused just long enough for him to flip her onto her back. He pinned her to the ground and chuckled. “You’re nearly ready.” He smiled. “Just a few more steps.” He disappeared. Skylar lay on her back as the world began to fade out, she stood and ran to the edge of the world, sprinting from the shadows until finally they engulfed her.
**
Skylar took in a sharp breath, her fingers curled tightly into the cloth of Eva’s shirt. She opened her eyes, wide as a deer in headlights. She gasped as she stared to Eva. “Wh….” She blinked several times and looked around her room. “Where….” She looked back to Eva. “Are you okay?” She breathed, “What happened?”

Eva moved from the bed and into the wheel chair. She leaned her head back and gave a long drawn out sigh. Before she knew she was back at the house – laying in the bed. She turned her head to the side and kissed Skylar’s temple…. With that she fell asleep.
It seemed maybe an hour had passed. Out of no where something jerked Eva out of the bed and slammed here against the wall. The Outsider appeared before her, holding her up – his eyes darker than ever. “They spoke to you” he shoved her. “what did they say?!” he shouted. Eva looked to him for a long moment and pulled her eyebrows close together, squeezing them tight. Suddenly the Outsider shoved Eva to the ground and teleported. In that instant she landed on his knee – all the air knocking out of her lungs.
“I didn’t want any of this!” he shouted and threw his arms down. He picked her back up and lifted her into the air. “One day I am just told – my days were thinning. Some woman.. Eva Brewster would be the next. Like a good lackey I followed their orders, I found your sorry ass. It has taken every inch of my power not to destroy you.” He scoffed and choked her with his hand.
Eva gripped his arm and fought against his arm.
“How could you replace me?” he spoke through grit teeth. “you couldn’t fight your way out of a paper bag” he suddenly teleported – Eva fell to the ground. She landed in a thud and rubbed her throat. The Outsider stood – looking away, his back turned to her. Eva grit her teeth and teleported. She came at him with her fists, though he caught them easily, tossing her back. “Hmph” he scoffed and then stepped back.
Eva came forward again – but then suddenly teleported. He did not expect this. In a sudden burst – the Outsider flew forward, her fist cramming into his spine. A blast of black power came from her knuckles, throwing him forward. The Outsider got to his feet and turned towards her.
Then it was on. They were teleporting back and forth at insane speeds. Eva was able to land a few more strikes, the Outsider gaining more. The Outsider threw his leg – her teleported collided right with his foot. She stumbled backwards and gripped her stomach. A bit of blood trailed from the Outsider’s nose and then the threw his head back. “that it?” he questioned.
As the Outsider stood looking at Eva – an arm wrapped around his throat, holding him back, his body arching wildly. Then another Eva appeared – slamming her fists into his gut. Another on the side punching him. The real Eva stood before him, grinning. She technically was teleporting so fast that there were multiple Eva’s. She reached forward and gripped his throat, holding him upward as she became overwhelmed with power. The 2 other Eva’s continued slamming on him. The Outsider coughed blood – groaning and crying out with each terrible hit. Eva’s hand choked him - squeezing his throat.
“They said” she spoke softly. “You weren’t fit for this” then she squeezed even harder – his neck cracked and his esophagus caved in. Within in seconds his eyes dulled – changing from black to a gentle blue. She dropped his limp body and stumbled back – a bright black light came from the Outsider and shifted towards Eva – swarming into her body. She gripped her chest and fell against the wall, crying out.
“It is done” Lucille spoke, her arms crossed as she had watched the whole thing play. “Finally that little bastard is gone” she chuckled and then stepped forward – placing her hand on Eva’s arm, stabilizing her. “Welcome to the crew”.
“Crew?” Eva spoke softly as she regained her vision.
“Of gods, you know” she chuckled and then looked over to Skylar. “I know he didn’t give you much of a handbook… but you have an important job” she spoke and looked back over to the Outsider’s dead body. His body began to crumble into ashes and then disappear… “To maintain balance between the worlds… worlds of magic and gods .. they can create ripples in the dimensions, you make sure that each dimension is sealed and balanced. People who do not belong in certain dimensions give the God of Chaos much to do…. Your job is to correct that. So.. generally you will not be bound to a single world..” she spoke softly and then sat down on the bed. “How you travel from world to world is your own decision. One Rift God, the true name, would possess important bodies, others would take their own body of that world, for fun truly, and like the Outsider he went as a figment of himself… how you do it is your own wish...” she spoke and then made her way to Skylar.
“Don’t worry doll, you’re next” she grinned and then disappeared.

Skylar watched as Eva was ripped from the bed. “Eva!” She cried, she grit her teeth, it was as if she was being held in place, as if someone had control over each muscle in her body. The Outsider’s black eyes stared to her, but only for a moment. Skylar whimpered as she fought against the bonds that held her. She watched the entire battle take place, blood dripped from her nose. Lucille appeared next to her, she touched Skylar’s shoulder and a white light filled her body. The warmth of the power soothed the pain. She slouched slightly and gasped for air as she stared to the Outsider’s now dead body on the floor. The sound of his throat crushing, his bones snapping. She stared to Eva as the dark cloud of energy entered her body and slammed her into the wall with its force. Skylar tried to move, but found her muscles felt as though she was weighed down by sand. She watched idly as Lucille stepped forward and helped Eva. Skylar watched with worried eyes, she tried to move again only to find that she was still weighed down. Then, Lucille turned her attention to Skylar once again, telling her that she was next. Next in line to become a God. The thought of it terrified her. When Lucille disappeared finally Skylar felt her muscles respond. She rushed from the bed and gripped onto Eva. She held her close, her breaths quick. “Eva.” She pulled back and looked into her eyes, “Are you okay?” She asked softly, she felt like she couldn’t breathe. She searched her eyes for a moment before she was grabbed from behind, she was ripped backward by the spirit of the Outsider. His eyes were as black as the night.
Skylar screamed as he slammed her into the ground. Skylar let out a cry. She kneed him in the chest and flipped him onto his back. Skylar pinned him there, she swung at him only for him to catch her hand and chuckle. “Is that all you have? You’re supposed to be a Grand Reaper?” He snickered. He shoved her up and ran, slamming her into the wall with his shoulder.
A glass like room had popped up around the two, locking them into that space. Lucille stood next to Eva, “Don’t worry, Eva. This is all part of a plan that is bigger than you could ever imagine.” She spoke with a soft voice, she winced as the Outsider jabbed his fist into Skylar’s side.
Remi appeared inside of the glass, he stood in the corner, observing. Skylar caught a glimpse of him and whimpered when the Outsider slammed his fist into her face. He looked over his shoulder and snickered, “Oh well if it isn’t Remi, my old friend.” He dropped Skylar. He turned around and took a few steps forward, “She is supposed to reap me, isn’t she? That’s it, isn’t it?” He smiled, “How is that supposed to happen, Remi?” He went to speak another line when Skylar rushed forward. Her shoulder slammed into his back, sending him toppling onto the floor. Skylar then slammed her fist into his chest, gripping onto his soul. She ripped it from him. His blue eyes stared to her, in disbelief. She then looked to Remi whom only smiled. Skylar took his soul and lifted him up into the air, she stared into his frightened eyes before she let go. The fires of hell broke loose beneath her, hands lifted up and gripped onto his soul, grabbing a hold of him and ripping him from the world.
Remi stepped forward and smiled to Skylar, “It is that time, Skylar.” He spoke just before he grabbed a hold of her and pulled her forward. The hands that reached up from the fires gripped onto her legs, pulling at her, the boney hands were deathly pale. Skylar screamed as they pulled on her, the flames crawled up her legs. Lucille appeared next to Skylar, she brushed her finger along Skylar’s cheek, a burst of white light came from her hand as she wiped away a tear. Lucille smiled as she took a ball of white light and tossed it up into the air. A portal then came with bright light, it reached down, hands of angels gripped a hold of Skylar, pulling her arms upward. She cried as the two worlds fought over her. The white light crawled over her body as the flames surrounded her in a tornado of power.
Remi and Lucille looked to each other for a moment as they both took a step back. The whirlwind of power spun violently, Skylar cried in pain as the transformation took place. Skylar screamed, her screams were ate up by the roar of the flames. Then, suddenly the flames burst outward, in a blast of energy. Remi brushed a few embers off of his armor as he stepped forward, dark shadows surrounded Skylar. She knelt down on one knee, a hood cloaked her face in shadows, it seemed that smoke came from beneath the hood lifting upward away from where her face should have been. She wore black boots with large buckles up the sides, leggings that ran up her legs, a dagger was attached to her thigh. She wore a black corset that had ties out to her biceps, and black gloves that reached up to her elbows. The cloak that was over her head reached down to the floor. Her scythe was in her hands as she slowly stood, her eyes were a fiery orange from beneath the cloak. A sight that would frighten even those with the hardest of souls. Black wings came from beneath the cloak, the Angel of Death, only something that a Grand Reaper had. The wings were absolutely beautiful. Remi grinned as he glanced to Lucille. He looked back to Skylar and took a step forward toward her, he watched her carefully, shadows crawled all along the ground around her, flames licked up beneath her boots.
Lucille stepped forward as well, “Welcome, young Reaper.” She spoke as she held her hand out. “You’ll be following in the steps of Remi, the God of Death. You are set to become a Grand Reaper. You will work with the Rift God, a perfect match for you, isn’t it? As fate would have it.” She let out a soft chuckle.
Remi grinned as he reached forward and steadied Skylar, “The power that you have now is unmeasurable, more power than even the God of War.” He chuckled, “He will be jealous of that. But I couldn’t have a successor that is weak, the God of Death must be powerful to overcome him.” He grinned. He then looked to Eva and smiled as he held Skylar up. She leaned heavily onto the scythe. Remi reached up and lifted the cloak from her head. He pulled back the material to reveal Skylar, her eyes were full of fire, she took in slow breaths as she fought to stand. “Why don’t you come sit down, hm?” He tapped her scythe, it folded up and attached to her thigh as he scooped her up swiftly and set her down on the bed. As the scythe folded up the wings behind her back melted away into the shadows. “This is a lot for one to handle, I’ve been trying to give it to you in waves, however that little prick didn’t want to give us the time, he insisted on ending his life by going up against Eva like that.” He then looked to Eva as a spider came down from the ceiling. “Hello my friend.” He smiled as a paper appeared. “Thank you.” He took the paper. “Skylar.” He placed the paper into her hand. “I will be here, to guide you, there is a space to fill as Grand Reaper, that is your space, I will teach you, and one day you will replace me as the God of Death.” He then stood and looked to the paper that was still blank. “Hm, must be for me.” He took it back. Writing began to appear on the paper as he held it within his fingertips. “Lucille.” He gave a nod before he took a step and disappeared into ashes.
Skylar sat on the bed, her muscles shook, she could feel the heat within her body from the power that now surged through her. Lucille gave a gentle smile to Eva before she knelt down before Skylar. “Don’t forget, I am just as important in your journey as Remi. If you ever need anything, I will be here for you. Now, you and Eva have somewhere to be.” She winked, “Believe me, you won’t want to be late, your life as Gods has only begun. Be thankful you haven’t been given the job of a lower God you and Eva are very high ranking.” She gave Skylar a gentle hug before she brushed a bit of blood away. She stood and turned to Eva. “You will learn.” She spoke. “If I had a handbook to give you, I would. I know you will be much more suited for the job of Rift God, dear Eva.” She hugged her. “Call upon me, whenever you need me. Oh, and be a dear, if there is a smashing party, you’d better call.” She winked before she disappeared into a flash of light.
Skylar shielded her eyes. She looked to Eva. “We have somewhere to be?” She asked softly, she took in quick breaths still, her body settling with the magic. The fire in her eyes still glowed brightly. “Eva? What…happened?” She luckily couldn’t remember the pain of the two worlds pulling at her body, it had been so great that her mind blocked it out. She only remembered fighting the Outsider’s spirit, and then, she was on the bed, Remi was speaking to her, then Lucille. Skylar stood shakily, she looked around the room, it was as if none of it had happened. “Was that a dream?” She asked softly. She caught a glimpse of herself in a mirror, her eyes, her attire, no….it wasn’t a dream…not at all…

Eva scrambled forward when she suddenly ran into a glass wall. “Skylar!!!” She shouted. She hated this freaking glass. She turned her head and suddenly Remi stood there, smiling the whole while. Lucille appeared too in all of her angelic essence. “So…” Eva spoke looking to Lucille. “You are the goddess of Life… and”
“The God of Death… now” Remi spoke as he held his hand forward – watching the fight play out. Lucille grinned and nodded. “We work together, all of us… constantly..” she spoke and then smiled. “He never wanted to play… the Outsider” she scoffed. “ A child amongst men” she turned back to the fight and then clapped excitedly when the Outsider’s soul was dragged down to hell.
Eva watched as Remi came towards Skylar – the entire scene playing out. She gasped as fire lit around the room, the heat flooding around her. Eva gasped as she listened to Skylar scream in agony, the clashing lights of the dimensions filled the room.
“Those two..” Lucille pointed to Heaven and Hell “You cannot enter them, but… they are the ones often causing the most chaos for your life” she chuckled and then shook her head. “It seems everything ties back to them…good and evil. What is it really? Just a part of the game” she crossed her hands and then stepped back slightly as a wave of power emit through the room.
Eva stared to the new Skylar. Something about it was strangely amazing… her mouth fell agape as she watched her…flowing with power and energy. She was officially a reaper now…. Eva listened as Remi and Skylar spoke… she was more than just a reaper… a Grand Reaper? She began to piece it all together, slowly. Rankings? Lucille spoke of lower ranking gods… that they were high in the mix. What did that mean, really?
And like that… they were gone. Eva turned her head and looked to the clock – only a minute had passed since she woke that morning. It was only 2:35… the events that occurred had to been at least 2 hours worth of time… the world didn’t see it, didn’t know about it. Their magic had created a zone in time… Eva slumped to the bed and let out a long sigh.. it was all so exhausting.
“Some where to go?” she questioned softly. She held her head up and then reached her hand out… An image crawled across the walls, until they stood in some kind of new world…
They stood in a patch of flowers, the grass tall – touching her knees. The flowers were neon colors – bright and vibrant… a waterfall crashed down, its white noise filling the lands. As she turned she saw a city in the distance.. she recognized it. District One… though some how sliced into the middle of it was the Greystoke Mansion, its city surrounding it… She turned again and smiled wide as a ship flew through the air. Olyver’s ship… the Guild headquarters stood too… she turned and looked to Skylar who stood next to her.
“This is the void” she whispered. She could still feel it – the weird stale air taste and the uncomfortable buzz in the air… There was no dark skies and twinkling stars – it was bright blue with a bright sun in high in the sky… Eva stepped forward and something began to emerge from the ground. It was a huge archway, it had two large columns that sprouted upwards. A small set of stairs formed and then the archway lit – a blue film stretched across it… a portal of some kind.
Eva came to the steps and stopped as she stared to the portal. She could see her reflection in it, and then as she focused – the other world. It was dimly lit, and had tall pointy buildings… she looked to Skylar and nodded. “This… must be what they were talking about. Some where to be.. another world. There must be… something wrong with it… something I have to do there..” she spoke and then poked the portal. A ripple moved outward over the portal and then looked to Skylar.
“We can come home… whenever..” she spoke and then nodded. “Your world.. is my home. Whenever we finish, or need a break…. We just go back home. Okay? You…. Can always see your dad..” she spoke softly and then nodded. “Should we wait or…?” she fidgeted with her hands.

Skylar looked around this new void in awe. “Eva…” She breathed, she remembered the void before, when Eva showed it to her. It was dark, and depressing, the hanging islands of rocks. Now it turned to this. “This is incredible.” She held onto Eva’s hand as the archway appeared. She gripped Eva’s hand tightly when she touched the portal and the waves moved about the world as if it was a reflection in the water. Then, Eva asked the question. Should they go? Skylar took in a deep breath, “We can come back.” She spoke softly, “We have our jobs to do.” She stared to Eva for a long moment before she kissed her with passion, her hand held on her cheek. She then turned, her hand still gripping onto Eva, she jumped into the portal. Skylar screamed as she was ripped away from Eva as she flew at what felt like the speed of light. She shut her eyes tightly and within the next moments she felt her soul slam harshly into a body. Memories flooded her mind as she opened her eyes. She stood in the middle of a circle of men, her back was pressed against someone. She looked over her shoulder to find that it wasn’t Eva. She glanced around quickly for Eva, nothing.
“Leave us alone!” The man behind her shouted, it was Jasper. He looked different in this world, he wore a thin beard that ran along his jaw, his eyes held a yellow glow. “Sky, take them out!” He snapped, his canines were longer than usual.
Skylar lifted up the two pistols in her hands, she aimed and popped off a few shots. The men rushed forward with incredible speed. A bullet cut through the air and sliced through the skin of one of the attackers, a bright flash of light came from his body causing him to scream just before his body burst into ashes. She was tackled then to the ground. Her guns clattered as she was slammed to the ground by one of the men. His skin was frighteningly pale. Rain fell down upon them, dripping down into her eyes as she stared up at this man. Skylar went to fight him off just as something leaped over her, knocking the man from her body. Skylar jumped up as she stared to the beast, it ripped through the flesh of one of the men, tearing out his throat. She spun around, looking for Jasper, he was nowhere to be found. Suddenly she was grabbed from behind, an arm wrapped swiftly around her neck, she was spun around to see as her attacker lifted up a pistol and shot the beast. The creature howled and fell to its knees, he looked to Skylar with sad eyes as its body shriveled and turned back into human state, it was Jasper. His veins crawled across his skin as he gasped for air. “Is that how you want to end up?” Her attacker whispered into her ear. “We’ll kill all of the Lycans.” He growled lowly.
Skylar took in a quick breath, she jabbed her elbow into him and spun around, she kicked forward into his chest just before a man and a woman came from the shadows, grabbing onto her arms. They restrained her, Skylar thrashed against them. “Let go!” She cried, fighting against them.
The man stepped forward and chuckled deeply, he smiled, fangs visible. Skylar stared to him fear washed over her face as he gently touched her cheek. “My job is to bring as many in tonight as I can, so we may feast.” He smirked. “It is only a bonus that you happened to be traveling with a Lycan.” He brought a blade to her neck, the silver metal was cool against her skin. “It seems, he was taking you for the same reason I am.” He smiled once again. Skylar kneed him and knocked him back, she thrashed against the two that held her. The man chuckled deeply, “You’ll be a lot of fun for our games.” He spoke as he came forward with incredible speed, he gripped her head and pushed it to the side. Skylar screamed as she felt pain in her neck, then she felt something that was completely new to her. A wave of heat flashed through her body as this man began to drink blood from her, her knees began to feel weak after a few moments.
“James, don’t kill her.” She heard the voice as if it was under water. Skylar glanced up as she felt his fangs slip from her neck. The voice, it was Ayla.
“Mm this one, we need to keep her around, I couldn’t kill her.” He snickered as he wiped blood from his lips. “She’s killed plenty of Lycan and Vampire alike. You recognize this girl?” He grinned. “This is Greystoke’s kid, Mavis’ only child!” He laughed. “What she was doing with a Lycan dragging her around at this hour.” He lifted her chin. “What were you doing, girl?” He waited for a long moment and then chuckled again, “Not to worry, you’ll be around a long time. Your blood is too good to go to waste.” He smirked a bloody smile. “Let’s get back then, hm?” He spun around and began walking off.
Skylar felt her feet drag against the ground as the two pulled her along, she glanced up to Ayla shakily…vampires….lycans….she’d never heard of such a thing. What was this? What did he do to her? She could feel her blood dripping from her neck running together with the rain. Skylar shut her eyes tightly as memories of the Skylar from this world flooded her mind. This world, was at war. But it wasn’t the war that most think of. Lycans, or werewolves, were fighting against the vampires, whom held reign over the land. The humans were in this as well, fighting for their lives, put up in strongholds fighting them off. The vampires and lycans came out and hunted down humans for sport, keeping them alive for bloodletting. Chasing them for game. The lycans saw chasing down a human as a sport, especially when they released them into the forest. The vampires would capture humans with the sweetest of blood and drink them over and over again. Skylar was part of the resistance, she had killed thousands of lycan and vampires. Her family developed special light bullets for that purpose. Amara and Mavis helped lead the rebellion. Booker was one of the main generals.
“Grab her guns. Don’t leave anything behind.” James spoke.
She watched as another vampire lifted her large pistols from the ground, the bullets glowed from within the chambers. She had been going along with Jasper, playing along with him, she planned to kill his pack that night, she even had bullets in the chambers of her guns to do so. She had this whole night planned out, except for getting attacked by the vampires. Skylar fought against the hold on her arms. “I would stop fighting, if I were you.” Ayla whispered into her ear, “It would be smart, you’ve lost, just accept it.”
Skylar stared to the city as they pulled her along, her feet dragging along the cobblestone as they headed toward a large mansion like building. She stared to it, the Nighthand Guild. She remembered this from Olyver’s life, from her memories. Skylar watched as the large black gates moved away, a vampire stood in his watch tower, a gun in his hands. “Where…are you taking…me…” Skylar breathed. Her vision was fuzzy.
“You’ll be a guest, of our house.” Ayla spoke, a smirk on her lips.
The next moments passed so quickly Skylar couldn’t keep track, it was as if each blink of her eye she was in another room when suddenly she was dropped onto the floor, shackles were slapped onto her wrists. She stared to the cold metal. She was next to a few others that were prisoner as well, captured by the vampires. A woman sobbed. A man hugged her close, lovers. Skylar watched as James knelt before her, he grinned. “You’re my prize for the night.” He chuckled deeply, his fangs gleaming in the light. “Our royalty will approve.” He stepped to the side as the doors opened to a flight of stairs that led down to the prisoners.
Skylar looked up as the doors opened, the only thought in her mind, she needed to find Eva. She needed to get free and find Eva now. Her vision tunneled, her breath shook. How much blood had that vampire drank from her? Was his intention to nearly kill her?

Eva gasped as she was sucked through the portal. The transition was easy for her however. She slipped into the body of this time with ease, as if she had full control.
Eva was standing the council room. There was a table in the middle of the room with several chairs, those of her personal council. The memories of this Eva came smoothly, she was able to absorb it with ease. She was sitting in her chair, her legs crossed as she looked over a parchment. It was a retrieved letter, sent from a Lycan to a Vampire… she was uncovering a traitor bit by bit.
“Your Majesty” a man clad in black leather, a gun in his hand – he bowed his head to Eva. “The retrieval team has arrived with several captures. One is of interest, she was traveling with a high born Lycan” he spoke and then waited for her response.
Eva glanced up and then nodded. “And she is human?” she spoke with a rather serious tone.
“Yes” he nodded.
“Very well…” she nodded. The man turned and left the room. Eva folded up the paper and slipped it into her pocket. She was wearing a black leather suit that was tight against her skin. Over her shoulders was a long leather coat line with white threads. Eva stepped out of the council room and directly into the throne room.
“Gather the guests” she spoke and then sat down on her throne. Something was fluid about Eva, it was easy to fit the persona of this world. Vampires… Lycans… Humans. That was this world. All colliding at once for survival. In reality she hated it, Eva of this world would rather just succumb to silence and hide away… but the other vampire forces would never want it that way. They wanted to be equal and free. However the nature of a vampire would never allow that, not until some sort of substitute for human blood came around. This war was built into their genetics – to feast on the humans made it that way…
Eva crossed her legs and place one arm on the arm rest of her throne. Behind here was golden flames crafted into an elegant statue. A woman stood behind it, a statue of the Evalyne La’Frei, the woman she was named after. This woman was one of the first female vampire council-woman. She was also one of the most powerful Ancients. It was that same blood line that Eva had been born into. She was a pure blood vampire, royalty you could say. She would one day grow old and be labeled as such an ancient, stowed away until called upon… for now though she was simply a Clan leader. Her home held over 200 vampires that served her. It was considered a small – middle class ranked clan, which faithfully served her father.
The captured were dragged in, shoved down to their knees before Eva.
“Grovel before the Queen” One of the vampires spoke, spitting at the two lovers who cried as they were shoved down.
Eva stood the moment Skylar was brought into the room. Her instant knee jerk reaction got the attention of her vampires, who stood at attention – staring to Skylar. To be truthful she hated cultivating humans and feeding off of their life. However it was an expectation and sort of ritual of the vampires. She would rather do this than send her vampires out to create havoc. At least here she could keep them controlled. Eva stepped forward, the sound of her boots clicking on the beautiful glossy tiles of the throne room filled the air.
She leaned her hand down to Skylar and gripped her chin – turning her head from side to side. Slowly she leaned forward and took in a long inhale. She smiled then - her two canines long and pointy, longer than the other vampires. “You smell very… familiar” she whispered. Her voice changed from that serious dark sound to a softer tone…
She glanced over to the puncture holes on her neck. Slowly Eva moved over and kissed the wound. Her tongue moved over the two holes – and with that her wound healed. She tasted her blood – it was incredibly sweet. She leaned back and shut her eyes – the memories of the human flooding her. It was a chaotic mess of two lives combined into one. This was the power of the ancients. She saw a woman – holding two pistols firing at a mass of Lycans who rushed forward. Then a woman standing in front of a Red car – laughing happily. Memory after memory. Finally Eva took in a sharp breath.
“This one is mine” she spoke and then stepped back. “You are right… she is special” she looked to Charles, the vampire who had came into the councilroom. Charles was her handiman, an assistant per say. She nodded then. “This one will not be selected. She will be my personal selection… assigned to my chambers and treated well. If anyone touches her… I will kill you” she looked out to the vampire council who stood In the room. Each of them nodded and then dispursed. The others were dragged away…
Eva looked to Skylar and she grasped her arm “Come with me” she spoke softly. “I will not hurt you…miss Greystoke” she whispered even softly. She led her up the tower in the corner of the throne room, to her bedroom. As they entered – a woman nodded to Eva, leaving the room. Eva unshackled Skylar’s wrists.
“Skylar” she spoke, her voice returning to her normal Brewster voice. “Is that you?” she spoke and stepped forward – her hands on each cheek of Skylar’s face. “I can feel you” she whispered. “Are you okay?”

Skylar stared up to Eva as she came down from the throne. She looked around the room as the other vampires seemed to take an interest in their queen. Skylar furrowed her brows when Eva gripped onto her chin and turned her head from side to side, her breath caught in her chest, she was afraid. She couldn’t defend herself. Was this Eva? From what the other vampires said, it sounded like the Skylar of this world created quite the havoc. Skylar flinched when Eva’s lips moved to the puncture wound on her neck, she shut her eyes, expecting that same pain to come, but when it didn’t she opened her eyes. She stared to Eva as she experienced the memories, confusion seemed to wash over Eva’s expression. She pulled slightly on the shackles that held her wrists, though she stopped when she saw Ayla take a step forward from the edge of the room.
Skylar bit her lip as she listened to Eva speak, assigned to her chamber? What was she to become a personal blood bag? Skylar once again pulled back slightly when Eva grabbed a hold of her arm, though her expression softened when Eva stated that she wouldn’t hurt her. Skylar was silent as she was led by the queen up to her chamber. She stared to her wrists as the shackles were taken away. Skylar gasped when Eva placed her hands on her cheeks, tears welled in her eyes. “Eva…” She whispered, a sigh of relief. She wrapped her arms around Eva and kissed her, full of passion. Her lips pressed against Eva’s for a long moment before she pulled back. “You’re…you’re okay…” She took a step back, she reached up and felt her neck where the puncture wound had been. “This place…” She looked around the room. “This world…” She moved to the window and looked outside as the rain continued to cascade from the sky. “That vampire almost killed me.” She spoke just as a knock came from the door. Skylar’s eyes shot to the door as it opened.
“My apologies my queen.” Ayla stepped in. She looked to Skylar and gave a gentle smile. “See, I told you everything would work out for you.” Her voice was much softer now, it wasn’t as rough as it was out in the city. “My queen.” Ayla looked back to Eva. “The lycans are moving throughout the city, Jasper’s pack has threatened to take out our coven, they found him on the streets.”
“If you had left me to him his entire pack would be dead.” Skylar spoke, she crossed her arms.
Alya’s eyes shot to her, looking her over for a moment. “I knew you were up to something.” She grinned before she looked back to her queen. “It was James who told us to move on her, to get two prizes for one, a leader of the rebellion, and a high lycan…I told him he was stupid, to leave it alone, like you’ve instructed us, but the others, they didn’t listen either.” Ayla shifted, she held Skylar’s pistols in her hands. “These bullets…” She pulled one out, it glowed brightly within its chamber. “I’ve never seen anything like it, she killed two of us, in a matter of seconds….the two that she killed burst into ashes nearly instantly…” She looked to Skylar then and stepped forward. “What is this?” She questioned.
“A UV bullet.” Skylar replied. “My father designed it, my mother perfected it…The other covens attack and they don’t just take a few men and women and keep them alive. They take us for game.” She looked to her pistol.
“What about this bullet, Miss Greystoke?” Ayla pulled out another bullet with a silver liquid in it.
“Silver nitrate.” Skylar spoke, she took in a slow breath, she still felt dizzy from her loss of blood. “I planned on killing Jasper’s pack tonight. I had a few UV bullets for safe measure…” She then looked to Eva. “Keeping me here won’t do you any good, the resistance will find out that you have me.”
Ayla stood and took a step back. She looked to Eva. “She is special.” She chuckled, “You know where Jasper’s men are?” She asked with a smile, she waited for Skylar to nod. “Good then, you’ll help.” She turned her attention back to Eva. “I’ll be downstairs, if you need me. I think I’m close this time, Eva, I can feel it. I’ve nearly developed a serum so that we don’t have to capture any more humans. Just like you asked me.” She then left the room.
Skylar stared to her pistols that Ayla left on the table near the door. “Eva…this world…” She shook her head. “This isn’t anything like the other worlds…I’m your enemy…why are we enemies?” She questioned. “I thought that fate had us tied together….no matter the case…” She was frightened. “And…Ayla…she…she’s different here…she isn’t the same…” She took in a deep breath as she fought to stay awake. “I’m…I’m really dizzy Eva…” She muttered softly, the world was spinning around her. “I feel…sick…” She stumbled before she fell onto the huge bed. Skylar lay there for a moment, she stared up at the spinning ceiling, it was as if she had too much to drink. “What happened to me?” She asked softly. It was all a reaction to the amount of blood she lost.

Eva kissed her passionately, her arms wrapping about her body. Though as knocking came through – she pulled away. She turned as Ayla walked in, watching her as she spoke. She was calm and collected, as usual. The vampire crowd always want some kind of persona. A dark, hungry kind of cruelty. Though despite their wants, Eva ran a clean and peaceful coven. Ayla was her right hand man, she was the one who helped her keep her sane amongst the politics.
As Ayla left she turned back to Skylar and thought for a long moment. “It seems our fates were still linked, regardless. You would have arrived here anyways, and I would have still spared you. You are a strategic token, I wouldn’t dare let you in the hands of my lackeys. And of course then… I’d fall madly in love with you and run away from this pathetic life. Not because I knew you or anything” she grinned and stepped forward – placing a hand on her waist.
She pulled Skylar close and kissed her intensely, her hands roaming about her body. It was instant that she became heated – and she wanted more. But in that moment she pulled away and chuckled. “I am glad you are here though… we have to play this role for now, while still thinking why we are here. And surely you will be getting assignments along the way… why is this world special?” she pondered and then let out a sigh.
“On top of it all – we have to be quiet… we can’t announce that we know each other at all. I will be labeled a traitor and would be sentenced to death immediately. For pretend – we just met for the first time. I am holding you captive as a key element to the war, in hopes to replicate these bullets and use you” she spoke softly and then sat down.
“It is hard to squeeze myself into this body. This Eva is very swarmed in this reality, fighting a war and trying to stay out of it at the same time. She wants peace and quiet… she will never get it either” she whispered and then stood up.
“So we have Ayla here… Where is Ren?” she spoke and crossed her arms. “We are all 4 fated to eternally be linked so… some where she has to appear, and she will be our ally too” she spoke softly and then she held her close. “It’s okay.. you’re going to be okay… you just lost a bit of blood.. Vampires have a slight toxin on their fangs that can sometimes induce hysteria to humans.. to sort of help them get over the sight” she spoke and then helped her to the bed.
Just then there was a knock on the door. It was coming from her studies, which had a door leading to her bedroom. Eva looked to Skylar and then walked through to her studies, cracking the bedroom door slightly…
“Your grace… Valentine has arrived..” Charles spoke, bowing his head.
In just a moment a vampire stepped into the room. He was a tall vampire in all black, his hair slicked back neatly. Both of his hands were clasped behind his back and he nodded to Eva.
“Valentine…” Eva spoke and then leaned against her desk.
“Your grace… you have summoned me here. I took a horse back for 3 days to be here for something so urgent you say. What… could that be I wonder?” he spoke with spite in his voice was he looked down to her. “There is hardly even a drop here to eat… such a waste of my time..” he spoke through his teeth, head high. He glanced to the gun on the table, the glowing blue bullet.. slowly he made his way to the desk..
Eva stepped over and slammed her hand on top of the gun, sliding it away. “Valentine….” She moved infront of the weapon and look to him with cold eyes. “You have been in contact with the Lycans… do not deny this. I am not holding you in court for a reason… I do not wish to throw your head” she spoke and then pulled the paper from her pocket.
“You are the only vampire of my coven far enough to send word by White Delvian Pidgeon.. a species primarily located …. Here” she pointed to a map on the wall. Valentine swallowed nervously… it was exactly where he was staying. He had forgotten that the Delvian Pidgeon was a rare species that the carrier he got provided…
“So… you can do one of two things” she picked up and the gun and loaded a glowing bullet into it. She turned it in her hand and viewed it… “You can write a letter to that Lycan for me… or just suffer the consequences now…” she looked to him seriously.
“And if I write this letter… do I live?” he spoke softly now, his posture declining.
“Maybe.. if you cooperate well” she spoke and rubbed the barrel of the gun with her thumb.
“Fine…” he spoke defeated.
“Who is this.. you are writing to?” she held the paper up, setting it down on her desk.
“Ren Falkan…. The Alpha of a pack not too far from here…”
“Ren… hm.. what was the purpose of these letters?” Ren questioned.
“The Lycans… they stole my child from me a few years back. I was able to track them to that Pack.. where she has been turned..”
“A vampire lycan?” she questioned.
“Kinda… it was not a very good attempt, they were conducting scientific experiments… it didn’t go so well… now she is held there as a slave.. I was discussing her freedom…”
“I see…” she spoke and then set the gun down. “Tell Ren… You want to meet her face to face.. no guns, no weapons, out of peace. Tell her you have something she wants…” she spoke and then stood. Waving him out. Valentine then nodded, stepping away swiftly.
“Ren.. you think our Ren?” Eva had come back to the bedroom, her hands moving to her jacket. She pulled it off and set it down on the wardrobe, then she unzipped the front part of her chest piece, revealing her nude body under it. “Do you know anything of a Ren Falkan?”

“The toxin…” Skylar whispered, she remembered now. She rolled to her side as Eva left, she watched through the cracked doorway as the scene played out. Falkan. She shut her eyes as the memories played through. She’d had a run in or two with Ren, she wasn’t like the other Lycans, no, she wasn’t out for blood, she didn’t hunt humans and vampires for sport. As she listened to the story that Valentine told she furrowed her brows slightly, would they do such a thing? Try to create a hybrid? Was it possible? Her eyes fluttered and she rolled to her back as Eva came back to the room. She looked to Eva as she lay on the bed, “Yes…” She spoke softly, “I’ve met Ren. I’ve actually helped her a time or two. I know her.” She gave a nod as she slowly sat up. “I’ve helped her with medicine when her pack is hurt, she’s the only Lycan Alpha I have met that isn’t out for blood and sport of humans and vampires alike.” She stared at Eva as she undressed, her cheeks flushed red.
Skylar looked up then as a spider came down from the ceiling. She stared to it as it held onto a small paper. Skylar reached up a smile on her lips, “Thank you my friend.” She said, just as Remi had. She watched as the spider went back up its string of web and disappeared into the shadows. “It seems, no matter how much is different, I still have this.” She looked down to the paper as writing began to form. She furrowed her brows, she didn’t know this name. Skylar stood, though shaky. “Do you know a Rose?” She asked, she then looked to the balcony, she could hear something outside. “What is that?” An arrow came flying through the open window then, it sliced Skylar’s cheek as it flew passed. She held her hand up, “No…” She shook her head as she looked down to the courtyard, members of the rebellion saw her taken, they were laying low, making sure that she got the job done with Jasper. They saw her taken by the vampires and followed them here. “You don’t understand…they’ll kill your coven.” She ran and swiftly grabbed her pistols. She reached to her pockets and loaded magazines of UV bullets into her guns as she sprinted down and out into the courtyard. A vampire fell as a UV bullet pierced his chest, he burst into ashes and embers. “Rose!” She cried, she knew the woman now. It took her a few moments to gather all of the memories together when she was faced with something she didn’t know. Skylar’s transition wasn’t as fluid as Eva’s. She rushed forward as the woman pushed into the courtyard, Rose was part of the resistance, a close friend to Skylar. She had been there every step of the way. “Run!” Skylar screamed. A vampire from the balcony aimed in and pulled the trigger on his sniper rifle. The bullet whizzed through the air and penetrated Rose’s chest just seconds before Skylar could reach her. Time stopped in that moment. Skylar reached forward, her hand slipped into Rose’s chest as she pulled her soul from her body. Rose stood next to her in spirit form, her eyes locked on Skylar. “Rose…” She whispered softly.
“What’s going on? What is this?” She looked around the fuzzy world around her and then to her body that was still falling back, suspended in time.
“You’ve been shot…” Skylar whispered.
“How are you doing this?” Rose asked, turning hysterical. “This isn’t possible.”
“I am a Reaper, Rose…I’m sorry…” Skylar released her soul then and watched as a burst of light came from above and her soul was pulled upward. Time resumed then. Skylar reached forward to the limp body as it toppled toward the ground. The other humans of the resistance scattered to the sound of the sniper rifle, fleeing back into the city, to return to the base that Mavis and Amara were at. Skylar let out a yelp as she felt a sharp pain in her back. A heavy boot pressed into her back, slamming her forward into the ground. Her face smashed into the mud, she stared at Rose’s body as blood leaked from her. “I’m…sorry…” She whispered again.
“How did you manage that?!” The voice of a man came from behind her, above her, his foot was heavily planted into her back. “You escaped from our queen? If she has one scratch on her, I’ll kill you myself.” He flipped her onto her back then and gripped her by the collar of her shirt before he lifted her upward. Her whole front was covered in mud from the tackle. He glared into her eyes, her blood was enticing. The smell of it. He licked his lips.
“Will, put her down.” Ayla’s voice. Saved again. “Give her to me, I’ll deal with her.” Ayla stepped forward as the vampire slowly lowered Skylar to her feet. She gasped for air and stumbled into Ayla whom slapped shackles onto her wrists. Ayla stole the pistols back from Skylar’s holsters. “Remember what I said about not fighting back?” She asked softly. “Eva wouldn’t have hurt you…I can’t guarantee anything now…” She sighed, “I’m trying to help you.” She looked to Skylar, “Your….blood…” She searched her eyes, “It’s very hard to not drink you dry, James would have killed you, Will was thinking it.” She then shoved Skylar forward back into the mansion. Ayla pulled her aside and pulled a syringe from her pocket, she jabbed it into Skylar’s neck and injected the clear liquid. Skylar gasped and leaned back, she stumbled and fell against Ayla. “It’s for your own good, trust me.” Ayla spoke as she lifted Skylar over her shoulder and carried her upstairs. She pushed into the bed chambers and set Skylar down on the end of the bed. “My queen.” She began and bowed her head. “We have amped up the perimeter patrols, the humans took us by surprise. We have ran them off, we killed most of them, they were using the same bullets…” Ayla paused a moment. “I injected her with nightlock…it should calm her down, she won’t be escaping now….though, how did she manage to get passed you? Were you still in your meeting chamber? We have to be more careful. She had her pistols…she could have killed you, my queen.” Ayla warned as she pulled the pistols and pulled a magazine from the chamber, all UV bullets. “She could have killed a lot of our coven…the humans know she is here, we need to do something quick, otherwise I fear they will keep coming back and trying to pry her from us…what do you want to do Eva?” Ayla set the pistols down on the table she held a bullet in her hand again, inspecting it.
Skylar's eyes fluttered as she lay on the bed, she was slipping in and out of consciousness from the drug that Ayla had given her.

Eva glared to the window and grit her teeth. “this never ends…” she spat and grabbed the long coat from the hanger. She tossed it on and turned towards the window. She looked down - she could see Skylar approaching a woman… then she felt a wave of power - she knew Skylar had stopped time, and continued it. Eva then took in a deep breath and jumped with great force.
She flew the air - her jacket fluttering behind her. Her arms spread outward - and then with grace she landed, her knee pressing into the ground. She looked up then and with a quick twirl she stood up - her hands throwing out two daggers hidden on her waist. It stabbed into two humans and then fell to the ground, gripping their wounds, hobbling away. She aimed to hurt.. hurt really bad. She snapped her head to the side as an UV arrow came flying towards her. She moved her head to the side and her hand snapped forward - gripping the arrow out of the air. She squeezed it in her hand - snapping it in half… and then she let it drop into the ground.
Just in that time they began to retreat… Eva made her way to Skylar, now Ayla and William stood around her. She stepped up to Will and gripped the back of his neck - her nails digging into his skin - blood trickling from her fingers. “Watch yourself…William” Eva spoke and drew back her hand. She brought her bloodied fingers up and then wiped them on his shirt.
“I admire her, actually…” she spoke as she watched Ayla take Skylar away. An Officer ran up to her, breathing heavily after the fight.
“What would you like us to do?” he spoke, looking around to the few dead bodies of the humans. “Double the defenses, they will continue to try surely… Fill the watch towers as well..” she spoke and then nodded. “While we possess this human… we will continue to see their attempts. However.. she is key in this war. Do me a favor, Xavier. Send message out to our traveling coven, bring them in. I will have to leave the tower and deliver her to the council…” she lied then, but it didn’t matter.
“As you command” he bowed his head and then turned away. Eva then looked back to her bedroom window, still open - the drapes flowing outward. She teleported in an instant, standing back in her room. She looked to Ayla right as she entered, she smiled as Ayla filled her in.
“Yes, I am aware” she nodded, responding to the comment about the perimeter increasing. “She is fast and determined… they shot an arrow into this room, signaling her I suppose. Before I knew it she was gone” she chuckled and then stepped over to the side of the bed. “Not to worry though… I have imprinted on her… she can go as far as she wishes.. I always know where she is” Eva tapped her head. This was a pure lie, but it could have happened. All Eva would have to do is drink her blood, and then force Skylar to drink even a drop of Eva’s blood.
“She is too key to lose..” she spoke and crossed her arms. “I won’t make that mistake again…” she spoke and then looked to Ayla.
“We need to leave this place… I think we have a greater destiny than to be cooped here in this forsaken tower… I have contact with Ren Falkan - the Alpha of the Night-Watch. The passive - aggressive pack, I’m sure you’ve heard some thing about.. they have been scoping our forests lately. Something is happening.. Ayla” she spoke seriously. “Something far bigger than this petty war… I think it is worth investigating. Our human here… has worked with Ren before… this can go.. one of two ways.. One” she spoke with a sly voice. “Everything works out and we live happily ever after…. Or two.. Ren flakes and we kill the entire pack, calling it a day.” She then looked to Skylar. “If that were to happen… then we take Skylar to the Grand Council and present her to my Father. “ she spoke and then moved to the table in her room.
“You will come with me to meet Ren… prepare yourself, it could easily be tonight…” she spoke and waved her away. She then moved over to her desk and sat down - bringing a pen to paper.
Falkan,
I heard you had a situation with the blood Packs… I would love no better than to destroy them. I have a ultimate weapon, of whom you’ve once called to before. Skylar Grestoke is in my possession, who wishes to bring us together for the sake of all things living. I have trust in her… if you wish to hear me out… Meet me tonight, at the Howl Rock. I will be bringing one other with me…
-EB
“Good enough” she spoke and then stood at the window. She whistled and a bird came flying in. “Find the Lycan” she pressed a finger to the birds head - magic slipping from her touch. The bird took the letter and then flew off.
Just then there was a knock on the door, a woman brought in a plate of food. It was curry chicken and rice, and a glass of what appeared to be red wine. Eva accepted both and nodded her away. She set the food down and looked to Skylar.
“Are you okay?” she spoke, her voice growing soft and caring. She came over to the side of the bed and placed a hand on her shoulder.
“This is a lot to take in, huh?” she let out a sigh. “I’m acting like this and making these decisions with such effortless ease… it is kind of appalling.. I’m - I’m not like this at all. Actually. You’re the one usually doing this role” she chuckled and leaned down - kissing her on the cheek. “Care for some food?”

The world was a fuzzy haze of movement as Skylar lay on the bed. Her unsteady breaths seemed to linger in the air, catching in her chest. She listened to the conversation, how Eva spoke in this world, the way she moved. A true leader. Every action that she took was for the better of her coven. Ayla stepped forward and bowed her head as she lifted the arrow that stuck into the floor of the room. “I will see to it that I keep an eye on her for you when you are absent.” She spoke, “We have to take care of this one.” She gave a soft chuckle and then looked back to Eva. “I will gather a few of our best fighters to accompany us on this trip, if the Lycans do not work with us, we must be prepared to defend ourselves, as well as our human.” Ayla looked to Skylar for a moment, “She should come to after a while, I gave her a pretty hefty dose, James drank a good amount of her blood…he nearly killed her. We need to get him under control, Eva.” Ayla glanced to her, her tone turned very serious. “He is going to get us all killed.” She spoke before she left the room.
Skylar let out a weak breath as she slipped into the world of unconsciousness. Darkness surrounded her, a cold ice seemed to set over her body. “It’s different in this world, huh?” Lucille spoke, she held a white rose in her fingertips, the petals were withering and falling from the rose slowly. “This is one of the worlds that makes me the most anxious…the fighting that goes on here.” She shuddered and shook her head. “This world is consumed by the war, it is overrun by war and hate. Worse than the world that Olyver comes from, this world is constantly battling.” Lucille took in a breath and dropped the rose, it became ash as it hit the ground. “You’re here to help Remi in gaining an order to this world, Sky, as a Grand Reaper, you directly respond to the fates, and Remi, the God of Death.” She gave a smile, “And then, there’s me.” She lifted her hand and another rose appeared, perfect this time, the petals didn’t wilt and fall away. “You’re also very important to me.” She stepped forward, “The Lycans of a distant pack are up to no good, Eva knows. You must stop them, Skylar.” She gave a nod. “The God of War is having all too much fun in this world, and there must be a stop to it, or all life will cease to exist, and…well…that would be a very busy day for you, I’m sure with the help of several reapers you would still be lost.” She let out a soft laugh. “Don’t worry, Sky, I will help guide you, just as Remi will.”
Are you okay? Eva’s voice pushed into the dream.
Lucille smiled, “Ah young love.” She chuckled, “Go on.” She gave Skylar a push and the world around her melted away.
Skylar’s eyes fluttered open to the feeling of Eva’s lips against her cheek. She looked up to Eva with her blue and green eyes. “I’m…okay..” She whispered softly. Though, her voice shook. “What…happened to me? What did Ayla do?” She questioned. Her body trembled as she slowly sat up. “Food…” She gave a nod, “Yes.” She reached out and took the plate into her hands, “I…I haven’t eaten in a day. I was so focused on the mission..” She scooped the chicken up with the fork and took a bit, it seemed to melt in her mouth, “Oh man…” She breathed, “This is…amazing.” She scarfed down the food quickly. “Thank you, Eva.” She gave a gentle smile, with the nutrients in her body she felt more energetic. “That monster…that….man…he tried to kill me.” She drew her brows together. “Do you allow that? Of every capture? Or was it just because he couldn’t gain control of me?” She rose a brow and shook her head. Skylar took in a deep breath and sighed heavily. “Do the humans that are captured here get tortured? For sport? Like a game?” She questioned as she searched Eva’s eyes.
Skylar then took in a slow breath, she leaned forward and kissed Eva sweetly, she placed her hand on Eva’s cheek as she leaned in close. She held here for a moment before she pulled back with rosy cheeks, “So…I heard you speaking to Ayla, when are we leaving?” She asked, “Also, I need my guns.” She glanced to the pistols on the shelf. “I’ll put nitrate bullets in the magazines, I won’t hurt anyone…I trust you will keep me safe, but on the off chance that those Lycans do what they do best and turn on us, I want to be able to defend myself.” Skylar then paused, “Also, the rebellion, my father…they will not stop until they know I am either dead or safe. They will continually attack here…” She paused and bit her lip. “We must go to my family. Talk to them, otherwise the attacks will not stop, and with you gone, I would hate to see the walls of the coven fall.”
An alarm sounded then, ringing over the intercoms in the mansion. “Sunrise in 60 seconds.” It sounded off. The shutters on the sides of the mansion began to slam shut as thick metal sheets slid into place. Skylar fell silent as she watched this take place, the vampires couldn’t go out in the daylight. She listened as the alarm system counted down until it hit zero. Skylar looked to Eva once again, “We must get word to my father, otherwise this will become a never ending nightmare, we have weapons that can penetrate these walls, we have UV explosives.” She shook her head. “Eva…I…can’t lose you.” She whispered at the end.

Eva listened to her speak and then gave a nod. “I know they wont hold off… you need to send your father a message. You need to inform him of something, you’re safe or… that you are on some spy mission, infiltrating us or something. We cannot approach your father yet, not until I see what Ren has to say. From the intel I have gathered… some bigger than this war is about to happen. Something that will need everyone’s help” she spoke softly and then sipped from her cup.
She was drinking blood, to be truthful. Though it appeared to look just like red wine. It was sweet, like cranberry sauce. This had been enhanced by additional flavors, though naturally the blood already had a delightful flavor. Eva looked to Skylar and then finished her drink. “Okay… prepare yourself. We will leave in an hour…” she spoke and then leaned down and kissed her cheek. “I’m not going any where, love” she whispered and then moved out of the room.
At this state of lock down – the place was vulnerable, but dare the lycans to penetrate the hold. A swarm of vampires would swarm them… Eva made her way through the halls until she came to Ayla’s chamber. She knocked on the door and then slowly entered. Ayla turned from her sword – which she was cleaning. “Yes?” she spoke, surprised to see Eva.
“I have something to tell you…” she closed the door behind her and made her way towards Ayla. Ayla lifted her head, setting the sword down now… “My abilities go far greater than I’ve lead everyone to believe… about a year ago an ancient was woken… and he gave me his blood…” Eva spoke, pausing to watch Ayla’s reaction. Ayla stared to Eva for a moment… waiting for more.
“What is going on… this war…” she spoke with a soft voice. “It is a game we’ve been playing for years, and winning at that… Well… what is about to happen is way bigger than this game. I am not sure completely… but the lycans are up to something. Something… not good. They are trying to create a Lycan – Vampire hybrid, playing with genetics, and… who knows what else…” she crossed her arms. “Our time to stand up is now… but the Coven, nor any other vampire would trust me enough for this… I want to meet up with Ren… hear her out, if the Lycans are truly up to madness – it needs to be stop. Obviously it is bad enough to concern Ren…” she crossed her arms then, avoiding eye contact. “Skylar has agreed to hold an audience with the rebellion… if this is truly so terrible, we will need all forces to come together, for the sake of life” she then stepped forward and held her wrist out.
“If you wish to join me… to help me… take my blood. As a means to travel in the sunlight… to bridge past the fate of a vampire… take it…” she looked to Ayla, her eyes worried of what her reaction might be….

Skylar gave a nod, “Of course, we don’t have time to waste.” She watched as Eva left the room. Skylar pushed open the door to the study and stepped in and sat down at the desk. She found a piece of parchment paper, “Pen…pen…” She searched the desk, her eyes fell on the feather of a quill. Skylar lifted it from the ink jar that it sat in and took in a breath. “I should have paid more attention to calligraphy class.” She rolled her eyes as she put the quill to the paper before her.
Dearest Father,
I know that you and mother must be worried sick. I am sure that the men and women of our rebellion have told you horrible things of what has happened to me. It is true. I was taken by a vampire coven, and though I was frightened at first, the queen of the coven has accepted me, and brought me to her chambers for my own protection from the other vampires. I am safe, I assure you. I will do as you’ve always taught me and be a chameleon among these vampires, I promise that I will come out of this alive and soon I will see you and mother again. For now, something has sparked the attention of the queen and I too am interested in the outcome. I will write you soon, if you have not heard from me, do not come looking, do not attack the coven at any cost. We have already lost enough men and women in this war, there is no need to mindlessly attack. I will see you soon.
Love, Sky
Skylar set the quill down. She stared over the shaky writing for a moment before she folded up the paper. She then dipped a seal from the desk into a burning candle before she pressed the seal to the letter marking it with the seal of the coven. Skylar then stepped from the desk and opened a cage that hung from the ceiling, a raven sat inside the cage with beady eyes, it cocked its head at Skylar. “Find the humans, Mavis Greystoke.” She spoke as she held the letter to the bird. She pet its head gently for a moment before it cawed and took off in flight. The raven cawed as it hovered before the locked window of the bedroom. Skylar stepped back into the bedroom and pulled at the shutter, pulling it back just enough for the bird to escape. A buzz came from the shudder as she pulled on it. She stared to the beautiful blue skies and the warm sun. The air was crisp and refreshing.
“What do you think you’re doing?” A voice came from behind her.
Skylar froze. She slipped her fingers from the shudder and it slammed shut. She turned slowly, “I sent a letter to the rebellion, as I was instructed by the queen.” She gasped as a hand clasped around her throat.
“Is that so?” James glared into her eyes. “And what did you have to say in this letter?” He nearly growled.
Skylar held onto his wrist, her eyes wide as she gasped for air. “That I am safe.” She choked out.
James looked her over for a moment before he released her, slamming her against the shudder as he shoved her back. He smirked to her as he stared to her neck where he had choked her, a slight trickle of blood came from a cut that formed from his nail. He looked to his hand before he tasted the blood. “Shame that the queen requested you to be hers alone.” He chuckled before he turned. “Oh, don’t open anymore windows, Miss Greystoke, I assure you we have sensors on all of the exits, we will hunt you down, you’re not leaving unless the queen gives you that permission. Understood?” He looked over his shoulder for her to nod. James then smiled, “Wonderful.” He spoke as he left the room. The doorway remained open to the hallways that Eva had left through.
Skylar lifted her hand to her neck where bruises formed from the tight grip that James had on her. She stood motionless at the window for a long time before she moved and lay on the bed, she curled onto her side and eventually she slipped off to sleep, her body exhausted.
**
“An elder?” Ayla’s eyes widened. She looked to Eva’s outstretched wrists. “Walk in the sunlight? Eva have you gone mad?” She looked up and searched her eyes for a long hard moment. She took in a slow breath, trying to process everything. “Something larger than this war…I could imagine…but how are they going to create a hybrid? I can’t even seem to put together a serum for blood…” She held Eva’s hand, thinking. Ayla bit her lower lip, she looked up to Eva, her eyes full of uncertainty. She knew Eva was a pure blood, one of the oldest bloodlines around. Ayla had been turned, she was bitten at a young age by another pure bloodline from another coven, but she didn’t like what they did there…she didn’t like the games and the fear that they instilled in humans. Ayla nearly died, fighting the urge to drink, until Eva found her on the streets years ago. She remembered how weak she was in that moment, she had collapsed against the wall of an old bar back in an alley. She wanted to die in that moment. Ayla remembered the soft caring eyes of Eva as she lifted her and took her back to the coven, she remembered Eva holding the glass of blood to her lips, urging her to drink. It was the want to end the war that drove Ayla into wanting to create the serum, and the care of Eva as her leader that caused her to want it even more. She was so close now, she could feel it.
Ayla took in a slow breath, she brought Eva’s wrist up to her mouth, her breath shook. It was forbidden to drink from a pureblood, unless offered. An offering was the greatest of compliment. Eva was welcoming her into her bloodline by doing this. Ayla shut her eyes a moment and inhaled slowly, preparing herself. She then bit down, though she tried to do this as gently as possible, she knew it would hurt. She drank Eva’s blood, it was sweet, like nothing she had ever tasted before. Ayla had to fight her urge for more as she pulled her fangs from Eva’s flesh. She placed her hand on Eva’s side, making sure to keep her steady. Ayla swallowed, her eyes wide, she couldn’t believe this was happening. She breathed quickly, the blood flowing through her system, her cheeks flushed pink. She stared to Eva with her ocean blue eyes, “Thank you.” She whispered softly and bowed her head. She had such respect for Eva. She would do anything and trust anything that her queen said.
