Skylar gasped when Eva teleported them to her room. She looked up to Eva with her ember eyes, a tiredness about her. When Eva began asking her questions she gave a nod. “I…think so…” She spoke about the armor as she looked to it for a moment. She watched Eva as she spoke, Skylar analyzed her carefully, though her eyes fluttered slightly every now and then from the exhaustion that had taken over her being. When Eva mentioned sleep Skylar gave a slight nod, before she knew it Eva was on the bed next to her with her forehead pressed against hers. Skylar stared to the top of Eva’s head for a long while before sleep finally overtook her.
**
The next morning Skylar woke, she had curled onto her side, her hand rest on Eva’s forearm, her forehead pressed slightly against Eva’s as well. Skylar blinked her eyes a few times before she slowly rolled away, careful as to not wake Eva. She sat on the edge of the bed and stared down to the scythe that rest on her thigh. She ran her gloved fingertips along it for a moment before she stood. Skylar stepped from the room and turned down the hall. She stopped outside her father’s study, her hand on the knob of the door, she could hear the rumble of his voice as he spoke to someone. She let her hand fall from the door as she stood silently for a moment, she turned and made her way down the hallway to the training area, she would speak with her father later.
Skylar pushed the door open to the training room, she stepped inside and stood in the middle of the room. She took in a slow deep breath as she allowed her body to relax. This was the only other place she liked to escape to, aside from the waterfall. It helped her find her center. She heard the soft sound of someone stepping up behind her, her eyes shot open and in an instant she spun around. Her palm shot into the chest of her attacker. She caught the eyes of the person just before the world around her seemed to slow to a halt. It was Booker. Booker’s body was frozen, falling backward toward the ground, his spirit separated from his body and floated just behind his body. “What’s going on?!” He questioned, his eyes wide as he stared to his body.
Skylar stared to Booker’s spirit in disbelief. “Um….” She took in a slow breath; she wasn’t sure what was happening. It appeared that she had forced Booker’s spirit from his body. Almost as if she was forcefully reaping his soul. Skylar reached forward and held her hand into a fist, a black smoky essence came from her hand and wrapped around Booker’s soul. Booker began to scream, fighting against the smoke that surrounded him like ropes. “Stop…” Skylar growled, the ember color of her eyes glowing bright. She jerked her hand toward her body, this caused Booker to shoot forward back into his body. Time sped back up just as Booker flew forward into Skylar. The two toppled to the ground ending in him pinning her down.
“What the hell did you just do to me?” He gasped, breathing heavily.
“I don’t know.” Skylar spoke, she stared into his eyes, the bright glow of her own eyes began to dim back down into a gentle ember glow.
“What’s wrong with your eyes, Skylar?” Booker gripped her chin, looking into her eyes as he held her down. “Tell me what you just did? That shit…. that isn’t possible…” He furrowed his brows. “I was outside of my body.”
Skylar shoved his hand away from her face. “Get off of me.” She shoved him, this time she only pushed him away from her. Skylar quickly got to her feet, she stood, ready for a fight.
Booker watched Skylar he leaped forward, “You nearly killed me!” He yelled as he swung at her.
Skylar ducked and pushed forward quickly, her shoulder thrust into his abdomen as she tackled him to the ground. She threw a hard right hook into his jaw before she jumped up from him and backed away a few steps. “I told you, Booker. I’m not sure.” She stared to him as he stood.
Booker brushed the blood from a cut that formed on the edge of his lip from her harsh blow. He looked to the blood on his fingertips and gave a nod before he pulled his pistol from his hip. “You’re practicing the forbidden arts, aren’t you?” He aimed the gun so that the bullet would pierce just between her eyes.
Skylar took in a breath, she raised her brows. “Booker.” She spoke as she raised her hands, “What are you doing? What are you even talking about?”
Booker shook his head, “Tell me what you did then, Skylar.” He rushed forward and pinned her to the ground again, his knees on either side of her body. “What did you do to me?” He drove the butt of the pistol into the side of her head before he held the cold metal of the pistol against her jaw. “I’m not going to ask again.” He cocked the pistol. Something was wrong with him. He had never been so aggressive, was this Skylar’s fault? Whatever she had done…how she separated his soul and his body….

Eva stirred as Skylar left the bed. She pushed her legs to the side of the bed and slowly stood up. After a long stretch - she ran her fingers through her hair. After getting dressed she teleported to Mavis’s office. “Good morning, Warden” she nodded her head. Mavis looked up from his desk - startled. “Eva… you..?” he looked to the compass that sat before him. It hadn’t moved at all.
Eva grinned “I unlocked it naturally… don’t ask me what triggered it.. I haven’t quite figured that out yet” “Well.. that saves the pain, doesn’t it?” he spoke and stood from his table. He removed his reading glasses from his eyes and set them on his desk. “Well, we should start training you. Obviously you already have a grasp on your abilities, but now we need to hone them in. You must have control…” he nodded and placed his hand on her back. “I know just the perfect person to train you…” he grinned and lead her out the door.
They walked to the training facilities and turned the corner. Booker was over Skylar - a gun to her head. Eva gasped and teleported forward. With strength she pinned Booker against the wall, her hand gripped the gun and then threw it to the ground. Booker gasped loudly and fought against her arms - easily over powering her. She shifted back and then threw a hand against his chest - her eyebrows pulling in tightly.
Booker stood in the wardens office, his hands on the desk as he leaned over paperwork. His hair was cut perfectly, he wore a gold and red suit, it was very clean and cut. Classy yet powerful.
“Warden” Blake walked in and bowed his head. “Report” Booker spoke and sat down, his hand against his forehead. “They have desecrated their graves.. sir” he spoke and let out a sigh. Booker lifted his head and stood up - fury in his steps now. He slammed out the room and ran through the hallways. He slammed the doors open to the back of the Guild Hall - he ran fast - his armor clinking with force. He stopped at the Graveyard. In the center was a large stone, a smaller next. It was Skylar’s… Eva’s grave. Around the tombstones stood several guild members, they had mining pickaxes in their hands - swinging at Eva’s tomb.
Booker pulled his dagger and rushed forward - slicing into their bodies with rage. “You must show respect!” he called out and kicked one over. The Assassin stumbled into Skylar’s huge tomb stone and Booker shoved the dagger into his gut, twisting it while gritting his teeth…
Eva stumbled back and shook her head. That was the alternate world… the old life… Eva squeezed her brows together.
“W-what the hell was that?! You two.. you need to explain this NOW” Booker shouted and thrusted forward. Mavis stepped forward and shoved him with his arm.
“Booker, I am penalizing you for attacking the warden and another guild mate. I suspend you for a week…” he gripped Booker by the back of his neck and led him down the hallway.
“Wait no - explain it to me! I - I didn’t mean to, its just.. they both.. what the hell is going on?!” he cried out as Mavis pushed him down the hallway. They came about a series of rooms and Mavis opened the door. He pushed Booker into the room. It was a small 8 foot by 8 foot room. It was painted blinding white. It had a bench and a toilet, that was it.
Eva stopped behind Mavis, looking to the door that was completely solid. Mavis looked to Booker as he stumbled into the room. “We will talk when you are ready” Mavis shut the door and turned to look at Eva. “It is for the best. He… will never listen until sees beyond his nose” he sighed. He hated putting people in there.. but it always worked. To be confined… alone… it really beat a character down.
“Come.. ladies, would you like breakfast in the Garden?” he spoke and smiled, breaking the mood.

Skylar gasped as Eva rushed in the room and saved her. Mavis helped her to her feet and hugged her gently before he led the two into the gardens. Mavis smiled as they snaked through the gardens and finally came to a table that was set for breakfast. It was a round table with everything set upon it, from bacon to rolls. He pulled the chair out for both Skylar and Eva before he took his own seat. He gave a nod and smiled to his daughter before he reached to her with a napkin and wiped away a bit of blood from a cut on her cheek where Booker hit her with the butt of the pistol. She winced and turned her head away slightly, a deep purple bruise was beginning to form. “I’m alright, father.” She spoke softly, “I mistook him, I should have kept my guard up.”
Mavis shook his head, “No, Sky, this isn’t your fault. Booker is a bit brash, but this isn’t quite in his character.” He then looked to Eva with a gentle smile. “So you have your powers.” He nodded, “Thank you, Eva, for saving my daughter, I am deeply in your debt.” He paused for a moment and looked to the food, “Dig in.” He began loading food onto his plate. Skylar smiled as she looked to her father, she let out a soft laugh. Mavis looked to his daughter and rose a brow. “What is it?” He asked as he poured cups of coffee.
“I remember when I was little, when we would come out here.” She took a bite of her eggs and smiled again. “Almost every day. It’s been awhile is all.” She looked to him for a moment.
Mavis gave a nod, “Ah, yes. We haven’t had an occasion.” He chuckled before he began eating. A silence fell over the table as the delicious food was consumed. “Oh, Sky.” Mavis looked to his daughter, “Come by my office later, I have orders for you. There is no mayday, it is a few days from now. I’m sure you would like to prepare for it though. It’s a ball. I know you like those. You’ll be taking Eva with you.” He stood from the table, “Why don’t you show Eva where you like to train outside? Hm?” He gave a smile, “I have to get back to my paperwork.” He finished his coffee before he left.
Skylar looked to Eva for a long moment, “Right…” She stood slowly and gave Eva a smile. “Sorry about my father, he’s a busy guy…” She pulled Eva along with her. Skylar led her deeper into the huge garden that was more like a maze than anything else. She led Eva through a gorgeous stone archway that had an angel carved on one side and a demon on the other. As they came through the archway they came to a large opening with a gazebo in the center. Skylar pulled Eva to the gazebo and turned to her, she searched her eyes for a long moment. “Thank you for saving my life, Eva. I’m sure Booker would have killed me….” She lowered her eyes and fell silent for a long moment before she gave a crooked smile. “How about….” Skylar took a few steps back and brought her hands up. “We spar? Let’s see what you’ve got, huh?” She giggled happily, Skylar was very light hearted in this alternate reality. Nothing like the cold hearted closed off Warden that she had become in the world that Eva met her.

Eva sat down at the pure white table. Her eyes looked past Mavis - to the bushes of roses and collection of flours all around. There was a safe feeling about this place… She smiled and ate her breakfast slowly… taking in the moment of sitting at a table with Mavis. The real… live Mavis. And his daughter, who smiled happily while she spoke of her fond memories in the same seat. There was something mystical about this reality. Watching the happiness of the two made her feel a twinge of jealousy. She couldn’t recall the last time she had sat down and enjoyed a meal with her mother, and god forbid her father. And even if they did today - it wouldn’t be the same. The bond between Mavis and Skylar could never be replicated. That in itself was Skylar’s true strength… her never faltering admiration and love for her family… and those around her.
Though with that in mind it was sickening to see Booker in such a state. What was wrong with him? Eva recalled the moment in her head - it was something she could never imagine Booker doing in the previous timeline. Booker… the most loyal man about. Though - it is his loyalty that ruins him. His sickening love for Skylar that swayed his emotions. Maybe in this timeline.. he is with that woman - that girl that was following him. Begging him to move on. That sort of obsession… that must have been the case here. Booker.. a man driven by the want to be loved… dangerous… Lust.
Eva looked to Mavis as her thoughts finally trailed away and smiled. “That would be nice” she replied to his comment suggesting Skylar to show her to her training field… Eva stood and bowed her head to Mavis as he stepped away. She turned her head as Skylar spoke “Yes.. I imagine he would be. Even you were busy as Warden.. it is…a tiresome job. So much rests in your hands and the smallest mistake could cost lives” she spoke softly. Her fingers trailed over the bushes as they winded through the maze of beauty. They came to a gazebo and Eva followed, her steps moving over the solid wooden deck. Eva tilted her head as Skylar’s eyes searched hers, she felt some sudden rush of warmth. Eva grinned and diverted her eyes “Right…” she replied to her comment about Booker. To imagine Booker really killing her?
“Spar?” Eva chuckled and then nodded. “I’ll do my best…” she spoke and then stepped back. She took in a deep breath and assumed a fighting stance. She closed her eyes and imagined the time she was Mavis. When his spirit collided with hers and he took her over. All of that knowledge, ability, the training. She channeled that memory and then rushed forward. Her fist came forward - but was easily blocked. Eva jumped to the side and circled around Skylar before coming back for more. Eva was lucky to land a hit, and even if she did - it wasn’t very strong. The memory was faint, it was nothing but a model now. That power had left her… she could move - punch - kick the same way but it wasn’t the same. Eva moved her head to the side as she avoided a punch - and then was kicked back. She stumbled back and gripped her stomach, groaning in a bit of pain.

Skylar grinned as she dodged Eva’s punches. Skylar had swiftly brought her foot up, performing a sidekick into Eva’s abdomen. Her eyes widened when Eva gripped her stomach in pain. “Oh!” She ran forward and placed a hand on Eva’s shoulder, “I-I’m sorry…” She bit her lower lip, she hadn’t meant for the kick to be as hard as it was. Skylar was used to sparing with Blake, and with him she even held back, though he didn’t know it. Skylar gave a nod. “Try…” She took a few steps away. She turned and faced Eva before she gently reached forward and grasped Eva’s hands and rolled her fingers back into lose fists. Skylar brought Eva’s hands up, to her face, she then adjusted her elbows so that they tucked in tight. “Always, no matter what, protect yourself.” Skylar gave a nod, “I know being in District 2 hasn’t taught you any general fighting skills.” She chuckled lightly. “Though, I know that you have it in you, you saved me from the Overseer Soldier back in District 2, without even a second thought. Fighting is all mental.” She pointed to her head when she spoke this.
Skylar brought her hands back up to her face, “I assure you, if you step back and look anywhere else than to me, I will hit you hard. You can’t let your focus down and you can’t look away from your enemy at any point. Whoever you are fighting against will most certainly use any form of letting your guard down to their advantage…and in some cases…” Skylar moved swiftly, she was quick, much faster than in the other world. She was behind Eva in an instant with her arm wrapped around Eva’s neck, she pulled tight, though she didn’t cut off Eva’s ability to breathe. “In some cases, it could be your life or someone else’s life on the line.” She whispered into Eva’s ear before she carefully removed her arm and gently placed a hand on Eva’s back to help steady her.
Skylar moved and jumped around a bit before she put her hands back up. “If I attack, if I am punching you, don’t hesitate to punch me back, don’t hold back. If you hold back and wait for me to stop, I could kill you. Don’t let me control the fight.” She spoke as she threw a few punches and dodged a few from Eva. “Good.” She smiled. She dodged a few other punches and kicks with a smile on her lips, she loved sparring. It was by far one of her favorite pass times. She begged her father to spar with her since she was a child, and eventually he had to pass the torch to Blake as he was too busy with his work as the Warden to spar with her constantly. Tyrin developed the AI sparing system in the training commons to help keep up with Skylar, and to keep her entertained, as sometimes not even Blake had enough energy to spar as much as Skylar wanted to. Skylar jabbed Eva to the side, “Guard up.” She spoke as she went to throw another punch, Eva caught Skylar in the jaw with a rather hard punch. Skylar stumbled back and looked up. “Alright.” She gave a grin, a bruise formed on her jawline from the rather hard blow.
“Let’s do this, winner makes lunch later?” Skylar giggled as she readied herself. “No more tips for now, let’s see how you do.” She grinned before she rushed forward. She threw punches and roundhouse kicks, she ducked and bobbed. The two were at it forever it seemed. Skylar began to throw a bit of her magic into the fight, moving quickly with the shadows, she laughed happily when Eva blocked her punches. Skylar raised her hand and pressed her thumb to her middle finger as Eva rushed forward, she snapped her fingers. Time froze around her. Skylar moved and spun around. Eva was gone? Skylar moved forward from her position, teleportation had no time.

Eva looked up as Skylar approached her. “It’s okay” she stood up and shrugged it off. Eva looked to her as she instructed her – then let out a very small gasp when Skylar moved forward – showing her hands how to rest. She watched with careful observant eyes as Skylar positioned her. “Oh- Okay” she blushed and nodded. “I can bake pies all day” she chuckled, a reply to Skylar’s mention about district 2.
Eva listened to Skylar’s words of wisdom. Nodding to each sentence, trying to absorb all of the information. Eva gasped suddenly when Skylar wrapped her arm around her. She lost her balance and leaned back slightly, her back arching wildly. She placed her hands on Skylar’s arm and pulled. Though she froze when she felt Skylar’s warm breath upon her ear. Eva turned when Skylar released her, her eyes looking to her closely. Skylar had said something, it was important, she couldn’t quite recall what though…
Eva nodded and stepped back, her arms moving back up. She adjust her arms – mimicking Skylar’s position. She lunged forward and gave it her best – even though she feared hurting her. After a few attempts she began to get frustrated – she couldn’t land a hit on her. Then suddenly she smacked her – beginners luck – right in the jaw. Eva stumbled back in her own surprised and bit her lip “I’m sorry – “ she called out and shook her head.
“Lunch, huh?” She chuckled and then nodded. The moments she had hurt people… even killed.. were moments of pure adrenaline. It felt like in those moments that someone else took ahold of her body. Someone else controlled her… and did those terrible things. Eva… the real Eva.. she couldn’t do any harm. But it was different.. when everything was on the line – the world grew dark and thoughts disappeared. Just action. Pure action.
Eva watched Skylar closely as they began to spar. When she saw Skylar pull her arm up – her fingers touching together – she shot forward in a teleportation. The teleport took a little longer than normal – when Eva came out of it she gasped. Her body collided with Skylar’s and she felt like the entire world was coming down upon her. Like a black hole collapsed on her. The dimensions of time broke in just that second. A wrinkle in time. A wrinkle in dimensions.
In all the pain – there was a huge flash. Eva gasped loudly and lost her vision. She felt like she was holding herself up – her hands freezing cold.
“You’ve done it now…” the Outsider’s voice came. “But… I’m not going to help you this time… you have to figure this one out. You are the power between all worlds, you must learn to navigate them…” he chuckled then. “Two of the greatest sources … together, colliding. This should make for an interesting journey… The void… Time… you two become a void of time…”
Eva opened her eyes – she was on her knees, hands deep in an inch of snow. Her head rose up to the sky – snow came barreling down. Flakes landed on her eye lashes and in her brows.. Eva slowly stood and made her way forward… It was a wintery land, though infront of her were tall buildings of some sort. Square buildings… that was odd. She was used to tall spiked towers and those sort of shapes… she turned as she heard something wiz by. She jumped slightly as the bright light passed by, the sound of some kind roaring. “Where… am I?” she whispered to herself. She looked down - she was wearing a all black attire. Slightly baggy pants with tall boots. She wore a large belt which had a black shirt tucked into it, tight against her body – showing off her curves. About her shoulders was a long jacket, it reached down just past her hips. She buttoned the jacket and tied the felt belt at her hips… by now she was becoming layered in snow.
She brushed a bit off her shoulders and ran forward slightly, coming up to the one of the buildings. She stared into the glass that was stained.. or something. It had a logo on it, dresses and attires were on some kind of fake body – staring out to the world. “What the?” she whispered and stumbled as someone rushed by. “Damn WindowShoppers” she man muttered as she hurried along.
“Huh?”

When Eva came out of her teleportation and her body collided with Skylar’s she let out a yelp. Skylar gasped as she fought against the massive amount of pain that rushed every single cell in her body. “Eva!!!” She screamed as her soul ripped from her body. Skylar fell to the ground in a spirit like state, gasping for air. “Eva….what…” She shook her head as she looked up, she reached out and grasped onto Eva’s shoulder just as she was pulled into the next dimension. Skylar spiraled through a black void she fought to gain control of her fall only to crash painlessly into the cold snowy ground. Skylar lay there on her back, her body shuddered.
‘Where…am I?’ She heard Eva’s voice near her.
Skylar turned her head to Eva, her brows tucked together as she looked to the strange city. “Eva! Wait!” She reached out and grasped Eva’s shoulder, only for her hand to press through it. Skylar’s eyes widened, “What…” She tried to grab Eva again. “Hey!!” She called, trying to get through to her. Nothing. She was a ghost in this world. There was no way that Eva would see her like this…much less hear her…
Skylar felt a strange pull on her spirit. She winced as her form flickered. “Where is my body…?” She spun around. “Eva…!!” She turned and ran to catch up to Eva she stared into the window at the strange statues that were covered in clothing. “Eva…can you hear me?” Skylar gasped as the man walked through her. Her body burst into a wispy smoke before it formed back again. She shook it off and followed Eva. “I don’t know what to do…” She looked to her hands, upon a closer look her hands were slightly transparent as they flickered.
**
The city was silent, blanketed in a thick coat of fresh champagne powder. The street lamps were dim behind the blanket of snow flakes that fell through the cold air silently. The sounds of the city were dampened by the storm, almost as if the city had gone into a hibernation. Within the walls of a brick building a large group of people gathered. The room was grungy, it needed to be updated years ago. The lights flickered, the old fluorescent bulbs near the end of their life. The yells and cheers from the crowd of men and women carried toward the center, they had created a ring around two others that stood in the middle of the room. In the center of the room a fight was in progress between a small woman that stood around 5’7”, her movements were quick compared to the towering giant of a man that she was faced against. He stood 6’2” as he lunged forward with heavy blows that the woman easily shuffled around.
This gathering happened each and every Friday night. It was a group of men and women that elected to reduce their stresses by throwing punches and receiving a beating. Broken bones were only a small cost, right? How the men and women found this club was a collection of ways, it wasn’t something that was advertised. The police would surely shut such an outfit down. Especially with all of the bets that were placed upon the fighters each night. Easy money for those who won nearly all of the time. A cry came from the center of the crowd as the brute jabbed his fist into the side of the woman’s ribcage. She stumbled backward and fell against the ropes of the ring that the leader of the group had put together. The woman pushed herself off of the ropes and came forward into the giant’s heel. It slammed into her chest and knocked her back, into the corner of the ring. She winced as she put her arms up, her hands blocked her face as the giant began to swing taking shots at her, left, right, hard left hook, right uppercut, a knee to the abdomen with a final right hook that shoved her block away from her face. His fist collided with her jaw which caused her to slam back against the ropes, her arms held her up as she staggered.
The crowd roared now as the woman’s blood dripped from her mouth from the harsh blow. Her body shuddered, she hadn’t been beaten this hard in a long, long time. The brute of a man turned with his fists in the air, clearly he thought that he had won, given the fact that she hung in the corner by her arms with blood dripping from her mouth to the gray of the ring’s mat. The woman shocked the crowd though, she rushed forward, her shoulder dug into his lower back as she shoved him down onto the mat. The woman gripped the man by the collar of his shirt as she placed several hard hooks into his jaw and cheek, blood lined her knuckles by the time the man tapped the floor, giving up.
The ringmaster came into the ring with a huge grin on his face. He stepped up to the woman and grabbed her wrist and lifted her bloody hand into the air. The woman stood as tall as she could, bruises had begun to surface on her ribs and abdomen, a cut just above her brow allowed blood to run down the side of her face. She spat blood from her mouth and smiled a bloody smile. “I give you, Skylar Greystoke, your victor!” The ringmaster called over the crowd that cheered loudly. He turned to her as he lowered her hand, the man looked into her eyes for a moment, “You know a lot of money was bet against you tonight.” He spoke. “You should get home, Skylar.”
She looked to him and let out a laugh, “Protecting me?” She smiled to him, a bloody smile. She shook her head. “I want to stick around and see the rest of the fights, don’t worry. It can’t turn out any worse than when I first joined, when I first started winning. People were pissed, I know that. But no one ever did anything.” She followed him out of the ring and through a path that the crowd created to allow them out.
The ringmaster turned to her as he held a bottle of water in her direction. “This time is different. Trust me.”
Skylar took the bottle and squirted water into her mouth before she reached down and grabbed her black form fitting shirt. She pulled it onto her body and smiled to him. “Alright, I’ll go.” She looked to the crowd that cheered as the next two members climbed into the ring. “I hate to miss the action.” She spoke as she pulled on a pair of loosely fitting black sweatpants. Skylar then pulled on her thick parka and zipped it up.
“You won’t miss anything, I promise.” The ringmaster chuckled, “I’ll see you Monday.” He winked before he stepped off into the crowd. The Ringmaster was her boss. The story behind her finding the club was quite comical. Rumors surrounded him, and boy were the rumors wrong entirely. A few of the girls in the office claimed that he went out to strip clubs, or that he dealt drugs. Completely wrong. Skylar had followed him one night, just to see and she stumbled upon the club. It was something she had been yearning for, for quite some time. A way to release. Something to allow her pain to be truly felt.
Skylar stared to the crowd for a moment before she pulled on a black beanie over her dark brown hair that was kept short, bangs fell slightly into her eyes, but otherwise she kept a pixie style cut. She pulled on her knit gloves and wiped the blood from her mouth as she stepped down the stairs away from the fighting arena, each step echoed in the stairwell. She checked her pocket and chuckled as she felt a huge roll of cash in the pocket, she had won a good deal of money off of that fight. Each time she was put up against a huge guy she won big. No one ever thought she was going to win, except the veteran fighters, they knew Skylar wouldn’t lose to a huge brute. All that bulk means nothing if you can’t move it. She had said that line many times since she joined the club. Skylar stepped down the last stair, the cold from the outside could already be felt as she placed her hands against the door. She pushed against the snow that piled against the door and pulled her hood up on her parka as she stepped outside.
Skylar pulled her scarf up over her face so that only her eyes were visible as she began the long walk to the parking garage that was several blocks away. She always hated this walk, especially after a tough fight, it was wonder how she found her way to her car in some cases. Especially when she first joined the club. She took many beatings before she finally became good at the sport. Skylar smiled as she took in the silence of the world around her, the snow was perfect, it made everything so incredibly quiet. She rounded a corner and as she took a step down the street she felt someone grab her from behind. Skylar yelped as she was slammed against the wall. She kneed at her attacker and took off in a sprint. Skylar’s hood fell from her head as she looked back over her shoulder, two men chased after her. She looked back ahead just as she ran into the chest of another attacker. He gripped her shoulders and slipped his arm around her neck before he began to drag her down an alleyway. Skylar tried to scream though she couldn’t even breathe, let along let out a cry for help. She thrashed against him as the other two closed in. The man grabbed her by her jacket collar and slammed her against the brick wall, her toes barely touched the ground as he stared into her eyes. She felt the hand of one of the other men reach into her pockets searching, until he found the wad of money that the Ringmaster had given her.
The man that looked up to her chuckled, “You owe us more than that, girl.” He spoke with a deep voice. His fist slammed into the side of her head as he released his grip against her. “Wait.” He spoke as he allowed her to fall to her hands and knees. Her blood was bright red as it dripped into the perfectly white snow beneath her. Skylar rose to her feet only to have her chest met with a metal baseball bat. She stumbled back against the wall, unable to breathe. Her eyes were wide as she stared to the men. “Come on, victor, show us what you’ve got.” The man chuckled as he gripped her shirt collar again. “Or are you a chicken outside of the ring? Poor little girl. The Ringmaster can’t protect you here.”
“He doesn’t….protect me…” She spat blood in his face and shove his hands from her. Skylar stumbled slightly and dodged a shot from one of the men, his hand drove into the brick wall and crunched as his bones fractured in his hand. “You should really watch where you swing.” She spoke before she kicked him in the groin. She held her ribs where the baseball bat had collided with her body, she was certain something was broken. She winced as the man kicked her in the back of her knees, sending her to her knees before the man that held the bat. Skylar stared up to him, her breaths shook.
He leaned down and stared into her eyes, a smirk upon his lips. “Why won’t you fight?” He asked as he lifted her chin with his hand. “You’re such a firecracker in the ring, yet you become rather docile outside of it.” He chuckled. “Are you afraid?”
Skylar ripped the baseball bat from his grip, she took the bat and swung, the metal rang as it collided with his skull sending him in an unconscious heap to the ground. She turned as the other man rushed her. Skylar dropped the bat as she dove from his attack. She sat crouched in the snow a few feet away as the man turned to her, his eyes angry. The other man that she had kicked in the groin was recovering by this point. Skylar bit her lip as she got to her feet and turned to take off in a sprint….
The sound of a gun never quite seems to be so loud until it is fired at you from behind.
The sound of the pistol cracked through the silent night. An instant later Skylar felt the bullet pierce through her back, just below her floating rib on her right side. Skylar buckled to the ground, her blood splattered across the white snow. She blinked and as she opened her eyes again the men stood above her. She curled as they kicked her relentlessly. When they finally backed off Skylar pushed herself to her hands and knees, her body shook, blood leaked from her bullet wound, she shuddered. She looked up just in time for the man to land a harsh kick against her head. The sound of her bones shattering filled her ears….and then….silence….
A deep cold rocked through her body. The sound of her own breathing amplified. Her pulse became incredibly loud at first, though, slowly it trailed off as it slowed…
**
Skylar ran through the streets now, she had given up on gaining a connection with Eva, after several failed attempts. She was a ghost. “My body…come on…” She followed the pull that she felt upon her chest, she sprinted as she heard the sound of the fight. Skylar skidded to a stop as she rounded the corner to the alley. She stood helplessly as she watched the men beat the life out of the poor woman in the parka.
“Good riddance.” The brute with the pistol spoke as he kicked at the woman on the ground. The men left the ally then, leaving the woman there to die.
Skylar ran forward and knelt down at the woman’s side. She reached forward and placed her hand on her shoulder. Suddenly a flash of heat entered her body, Skylar groaned as pain rushed into her body. She could feel each and every cut, bruise, the bullet wound. Skylar then screamed as her body was sucked into this woman.
Suddenly Skylar’s eyes shot open, her eyes were an icy crystal blue. Her body trembled as she tried to move. Nothing. “H-Help…” She gasped. “Someone….p-please…” Her voice was weak, though it carried over the silence of the night. Somehow, Skylar’s spirit had combined into the fighter, the Skylar of this world, and given her life. A life that was not meant to continue.
Get up. You have to get up. You’ll freeze.
Skylar winced as she mustered the strength to get to her hands and knees, snow was piling on her body. Blood stained the snow beneath her as she pushed herself to her feet, she stumbled and fell into the wall. Skylar held her hand tightly over the bullet wound.
This way. I know someone.
“What…” Skylar’s eyes fluttered as she took staggering steps forward. She leaned heavily against the wall, each step was robotic and jerky. Skylar made it to the main street where she turned and collapsed into the chest of a stranger. “Please…” She spoke, blood dripped from her nose and mouth. “Please…help me….” She gasped. “Someone…s-shot m-me…pl-please….” Her eyes fluttered, her fingertips wrapped around the arm of the person. “Help me….”

Eva turned her head suddenly when a trashcan was knocked over. She stepped over to it and picked it up. “What was that?” she questioned softly to herself. She turned and walked down the street. She looked around as she observed the world. There were tall lamps along the roads, she hadn’t seen anything like it. She had read stories of cities of machines, the dwarven lands… these poles didn’t hang laterns.. some kind of glowing bright light. No fireflies… was it electricity? The dwarves had only recently found that source of magic, but she had only read about it…
Eva gasped when someone came towards her – grasping onto her. Eva grabbed onto the person, startled in the mess. She looked down – it was.. Skylar? She looked different. Maybe it was all the blood about her face and body.. She looked around – people had stopped and stared to the two. Eva grabbed Skylar and rushed her to the side of a building, hiding from the road. “Uh – “ she shook her head. Just as she did – a sound came from Skylar. It was music. Eva looked around frantically, until she realized it was coming from her pocket. Eva dug around with one hand, the other wrapped around Skylar – trying to hold her up. She awkwardly reached into Skylar’s back pocket and pulled a square device from it. “Huh?” she shook her head. In fumbling with it she heard a tone.
“Hello? … Skylar.. hey are you there?”
Eva stared to the phone. It read ‘Ren the Hero’ on the top. Eva pulled the phone to her ear, what was this thing saying? “Huh?”
“Sky, hey! There you are!” Ren spoke through the phone and laughed. “So you gotta tell me how the fight went!”
“Hello?” Eva pulled the phone from her ear and looked to it and then placed it back on her phone. “Uh – Hello?”
“Yeah, I hear you Sky” Ren replied in a puzzled tone.
“No – uh, this isn’t Skylar. But Skylar needs help, badly. She’s shot” she spoke and squeezed tighter, her hand was placed on the bullet wound – trying to stop the bleeding.
“Holy shit! Where are you?!” Ren cried – you could hear her scrambling in the background. “Babe – come on, get up, we need to go – now” she spoke in the background. “I’m not sure – Sky’s hurt, we need to go” - “Okay uh – GPS yeah GPS link me” Ren spoke back to the phone this time.
“Do.. what?” Suddenly the phone was ripped from her fingers. Skylar leaned against the building, Eva’s hand still pushed against her wound. With a weak hand Skylar plucked at the phone. “Ren – Ren, please.” Skylar spoke into the phone.
Eva shook her head and took the phone – stuffing it into her pocket. She lowered Skylar onto the ground and pulled her jacket off. “Come on..” she muttered and then pulled her black shirt off. She ripped it easily and created long strands with it. She pulled her jacket back on - over a white tank top. She tied the strands together and folded the remaining tattered shirt up. She placed it over the bullet wound and tied the strands tightly around her body. “Why are you always dying?” she whispered to herself.
A loud noise came from a far. The blaring of an engine, the exhaust roaring as it flew down the road. It skid to a stop at the alley. Eva turned her head and looked to the vehicle. It was an all black coupe, with tight edgy body lines. To Eva it looked totally cool. The doors slid high into the air and a woman stepped from the car. She rushed over in a hurry. She wore a special ops police uniform – she hadn’t been home long.
Eva looked to the woman for a long moment. Ren.. the hero? It was Ren. She gasped and then shook her head. The books - the images, the sailor on her ship.. the great hero of all the lands.... Remember - this is an Alternate reality. Somehow everything was always tied together, the people she knew would always be here. This was the truth of it. Does that mean Ren was linked to them in their natural reality? Now wasn't the time to ponder these things... She looked to Ren and then nodded. “Think of where we need to go” she spoke.
Ren stared to her for a moment and then laughed. “The hospital” - Just then Ayla ran up and put her hand on Ren’s back. In that second Eva reached forward and grabbed Ren by the shoulder – they were gone. Only the prints of their feet and bodies rest in the snow, with lingering drops of blood...
They appeared in the parking lot of the ER entrance. “WHAT THE?” Ren gasped loudly and looked around. “We don’t have time to explain, just get her in there!” Eva called. Eva wiped blood from her nose and cringed. She had never teleported that many people before - especially off of a destination that wasn’t her own. Though when she thought of the idea – it just came to her as an idea. What if? Somehow.. she did it. Her want and will to save Skylar drove her powers. Truly in that moment… her abilities are really limitless. She was the Outisder… after all, right?
Eva stumbled to her feet, following after Ren and Ayla who rushed Skylar in.

Skylar's eyes fluttered as Ayla and Ren carried her toward the emergency room. When they pushed into the waiting room Ayla ran forward to the desk, blood stained her grey peacoat. Her cheeks were rosy from the cold, she had pulled on a beanie I've her chocolate brown hair. "We need help." She spoke, "My friend was shot."
The receptionist looked up from her computer screen and instantly her eyes widened when she saw the blood on Ayla. Her eyes moved to look to the horror that was Skylar. She instantly picked up the phone on the desk and dialed three numbers, "Code Omega. Trauma Team Ten Ninteen respond. Code Omega Trauma Team Ten Ninteen respond to the ER waiting room. Gold Alert. Code Omega." The woman stood and grabbed a gurney. She helped Ren place Skylar on the bed. Only a moment later the trauma team came rushing through the double doors that led toward the surgery wing of the hospital.
Dr. Knightly pulled on gloves as she made it to Skylar's side. She looked a bit different in this world. Her tipped ears were not as pronounced, though she was undeniably the same caring woman from their world. She pulled open Skylar's eyes and flashed a pen light into them as the nurses began rapidly hooking things up to her. "I need blood, I need O.R. 3 ready. Don't you die on me." She spoke as they began pushing Skylar off in a rush.
"Officer." The woman that was behind the desk spoke. She looked to Ayla for a moment whom was looking to Eva with her arms crossed. "Follow me. I have a room that I am going to assign to your friend. You will be more comfortable there and Dr. Grieves can fill you in on her findings. She gave a gentle smile, "She is certainly in the best of hands. I wouldn't trust my life with anyone but her." The woman led the three down a few halls and into an elevator before they exited on the 10th floor and wound through several other hallways before they came to the room. "Here we are. The nurses station is just there." She pointed. "There's coffee and snacks just around the corner in the lounge. If you need anything..." She went to the empty bed and picked up the phone. "Just dial 351. That's my line. I'm sorry about your friend." She looked to Ayla and then to Ren before she left the room.
Ayla shut the door to the room before she turned and looked to Eva. She pulled off her bloodied jacket and paced a moment. "What the hell did you do?" She asked, "There is no explanation for what happened other than magic!" She washed her hands in the sink, the water ran pink for a moment before it cleared up. "Did you have anything to do with this? With what happened to Sky? Huh? Who exactly are you? You don't look like you're from Northwald. What were you doing out there?" Ayla finally stopped asking questions. Her arms were crossed over her chest tightly.

(Raven)
Eva watched as they rolled Skylar away. Her hands fidgeted in front of her. Her eyes moved about the room – she hadn’t seen anything like this before. The lights in the ceiling, one flickered in the corner – but they were so bright… the weird screen that showed images. It was like projection magic, she had only experienced it once or twice… She could hear all the sounds swarming to her at once. “This just in – Breaking News – An Earthquake hits… “ - Ring ring ring ring - “Paging Dr.Stanston” – hurried footsteps – coughing – “The printer stopped working. --- God now we have to put in an ticket for IT --- That’ll take hours” -- -
Eva squeezed her eyes shut and shook her head. The room started to spin and she felt swallowed whole. “Come on” Ren put a hand on her shoulder and led her forward. They followed the nurse, until they arrived to the room. Her eyes fell on Ayla – who stood over the sink. Eva slumped into a seat and brought her hands up to her face. She could feel the sweat and oil – her clammy hands pushed at her skin as she felt a swarm of emotions. This place was not her home. Not like it at all.
Ren stood at the door and let out a sigh. She walked over and knelt down next to Eva, her eyes trying to pry away Eva’s fingers. Eva pulled her hands away and leaned back, letting out a deep breath. “I…” she brought her fingers up to her nose – a bit of blood had leaked from it.
Ren stood up and glared at Ayla. “You’re scaring her… she’s obviously… not from here” she crossed her arms. “And clearly something is wrong.. but” she stepped over to Ayla and looked her in the eyes. “She helped Skylar…”
“I’m not from here.. you’re right… I.. well.. I’m not sure if you will believe it” Eva whispered and shook her head. “I come from a place way different than this. I’ve never even see these lights before… or that water pump – that’s… that’s amazing. I..” she stood and shook her head. “I come from another dimension, another strand of time. This world is the same earth, but a different reality than my own. You two… both live in my world. Both as the name Ren and Ayla. She is Skylar, and I am Eva. We all.. exist in an unlimited amount of parallel universes. And I.. I accidentally teleported here, as my powers involved Dimensional Manipulation… I am still.. learning” she held her hands up and shook her head. She gave a chuckle. “To think that… in my world – you both are one of the most powerful beings that walked. You changed the course of humanity, history, our ways of thought. And yet… here we are.. here…” she shook her head and then sat back down.
“This is… hard to take on..” Eva spoke softly.
“You think?” Ren spoke and scoffed. “I’d say I didn’t believe you, but you got us here.. didn’t you? Now I have to stop and rethink all of the fairy tales, the thought of fantasy and magic being all but a story… Overwhelming for you?” Ren shook her head. “Think again…”
“Well.. I am stuck here until I can figure out how to get out. And I have no idea if… my Skylar came with me or not… and now.. potentially there are two Eva’s in the world, two Skylar’s.. I – I don’t know.” Eva muttered the last bit, pacing now in the room as she tried to gather her thoughts.
“Why can’t you just teleport back?” Ren questioned, her hands on her hips as she watched.
“No.. I’m not that good yet…”
“Then how did you get here?”
“I – Skylar and I were training. Her powers involved manipulation of time. And whe stopped time at the very moment I teleported. When I came back our bodies collided and occupied the same exact space at the same time, thus creating a wrinkle in time and space. Essentially the entire physical make up up the world freaked out and my powers reacted to create balance. I was thrown here, out of my control…” Eva sat back down in the chair and placed her head back in her hands. What was she to do? Was Skylar here? She couldn’t go home until she found out, if she ever found out. Where did she go. Skylar?

Ayla relaxed slightly when Ren scolded her in a sense. She looked over Eva as the two spoke back and forth with each other. Ayla stepped over to a cabinet and opened it. She pulled out a small white face towel and pulled on a pair of gloves before she moved over in front of Eva and knelt down in front of her. “You’re bleeding…” She spoke softly and drew her brows together as she wiped away the blood that dripped from Eva’s nose. “You weren’t bleeding before you brought us to the hospital.” Ayla noted, she was rather observant. A chiming sound came from the pocket of her jacket that she had slung over the back of a chair. Ayla’s jaw tightened slightly, “One moment.” She placed the towel into Eva’s hand and stood. She carefully removed the gloves and tossed them into the garbage before she fished her phone from her pocket, careful not to touch the blood on the jacket. “Dr. Sarálonde.” She spoke as she walked over to the window and stared out over the city. She took in a slow breath as she listened to the person that spoke to her through the phone. “I need you to push 30 CCs of epinephrine now.” Her voice was calm, though there was a stern side to it as she ordered the person. “How long has it been?” She paused again as she listened. She crossed her arm over her body and bowed her head before she began pacing in front of the window. “Right.” She looked to Ren and bit her lip slightly. “No…” She stared back out at the city again. “I’ll be right there, I’m actually in the hospital currently.” She paused as the person spoke from the other end. “No, no, don’t do that, just keep him alive, I’ll be there.” She shoved the phone into her back pocket. Alya sighed heavily and shut her eyes for a moment before she turned and gave a loving smile to Ren. “I’m sorry, babe.” She stepped forward and kissed Ren. “I’ll be back before Sky gets out of surgery, I promise. I’ve….I’ve got to go, it’s an emergency.” She paused and looked to Eva. “If you don’t stop bleeding, call the nurse, okay?” With that she left the room.
**
“Hello?” Skylar spun around, “Anyone?” She fell to her back as she found herself staring into the eyes of a cloaked beast with red eyes. She fell to her back and scattered backward. The Reaper lifted his scythe to strike and as he brought it down something stopped him.
Skylar stood with her hands upon the scythe, she ripped it from his hands and tossed it aside easily before she called upon her own scythe. “You’re not taking her soul.” She swung at him. “Not today.”
The reaper jumped back and dodged her attack before he called his scythe to his hands once again. This was not Remi. This was another Reaper. Skylar lunged forward and swung at him, her blade locked with his. She used this to her advantage and forced both of the scythes to scatter off to the side. Skylar thrust her fist into the Reaper. The two threw punches back and forth at each other. Skylar let out a cry as his foot slammed into her chest, this knocked her to her back on the cold ground of the spirit world. “I’ll take both of you.” The reaper growled deeply he called his scythe and rushed forward, he brought it down on Skylar only for the blade to clash with another scythe. The reaper looked up into the eyes of another reaper. “W-what…” He stumbled as he was knocked back. Remi brought his scythe down upon the reaper and he burst into ash.
Remi turned and helped Skylar to her feet before he looked to the other woman, the other Skylar. “You and Eva seem to get yourself into rather interesting situations.” He chuckled. “You’re stuck, Skylar Olyver. You’re stuck without a body to inhabit. The closest thing you have is her body.” He pointed to the Skylar that had gotten to her feet. “That is Skylar Greystoke, the you of this parallel universe.” He smiled, entertained by this situation. “You can’t control her, but you can tag along for the ride. You better hope Eva doesn’t leave you, you’ll be stuck without her.” He chuckled before he disappeared.
“H-How…wh-what is happening?” Greystoke asked as she stepped forward, examining this woman that could easily be her twin. With one exception. Skylar Greystoke had brilliant crystal blue eyes, and Skylar Olyver had emerald green eyes. She reached forward and touched Skylar’s cheek. “What is this?”
Skylar took a step back, “I’m from another dimension.” She spoke softly and shook her head. “It doesn’t matter. What does matter is you need to get out of here.” She grasped onto her shirt and pulled her forward harshly and tossed her over the cliff that was behind her. Skylar winced as her soul was sucked down with her and suddenly everything faded to black…
**
Skylar’s eyes shot open on the operating table, she tried to breathe but a tube had been pushed down her throat. She reached up to pull it out only to find that nurses swarmed around her and restrained her. Dr. Grieves came into her vision. “I need you to remain calm. We’re going to put you back to sleep now.” She placed her hand on Skylar’s cheek. “You’re okay. I’ve got you, Skylar. Just relax okay? My name is Dr. Grieves, you’ve been shot. I need to remove the bullet, but it seems to have shattered into several pieces. It’s going to take some time, I assure you that you will get through this.” She gave a nod to the anesthesiologist above Skylar as she stared into her eyes. “Count back from 10….9….8….7…” Dr. Grieves smiled from beneath the mask that she wore, she had glasses upon her face with the small magnifying lenses. She flipped her head forward which brought the lenses back down. She then moved and held her hand out. A nurse put a tool into her hand, she held the other and a scalpel was put in the other. “Alright, ladies and gentlemen. Let’s save this woman, shall we?” She sliced into Skylar’s side and began digging around for the bullet shards within her abdominal cavity.

Eva leaned back slightly as Ayla approached – towel in hand. Then she settled when Ayla dabbed away a bit of blood. “Yeah…” she muttered and looked down. “I know” she watched Ayla then as she dug in her pockets. She pulled out that communicator and listened carefully. Dr… her eyes fell to Ren who stood with her arms crossed – listening too. When Ayla got off the phone she nodded and kissed her on her lips – just a quick peck. “Okay, you do your thing” she spoke and then moved over to the second chair. She pulled her vest off and set it on the back of the chair. Ren then sat down and leaned back – letting out a long stretch and yawn.
Eva brushed her hand against her nose and then chuckled. “So… Ayla is a doctor huh?” she grinned and shook her head. “The strings of fate have their way across all dimensions”
“So – uh, then. What am I then, in your world? You said a hero, what sort of hero?” Ren spoke, grinning wildly.
“You’re a hero here, are you not? I saw your name on Skylar’s device. Ren the Hero” Eva chuckled and nodded.
“It’s.. nothing really. I am lead officer in the local Alpha SWAT team. I got that name when the media pinned it on me… I was just doing my job” she spoke and nodded her head.
“Funny.. The Ren in my world would say the same. But.. she is no.. uh.. swat officer. Ren is the captain of the Flotsam, one of the fastest ships on the seas. She devotes her life to saving people and taking out the bad guys. She controls the winds and the sea, and the things she has done” Eva grinned and nodded “Unbelievable amount of power… and you see – her biggest achievement is when she saved Ayla.. the Princess… rescued her from a life of doom, an evil Queen that tormented her. They battled the most feared and ancient Demon of Despair.. and after a long adventure they rid the world of this Queen, defeated the Demon, sealed all of the portals to the demonic world.. and lastly brought peace to the Kingdoms.. and even across the races. Cities began to blossom in their wake, cities of all races and beings, thriving together in equality..” she then laughed. “It sounds like it belongs in a book, but Ren and Ayla.. they changed the world outside of the District walls” she paused and then nodded. “It is interesting to see you as an officer, as Ren was the main fighter. And then Ayla as a doctor – as her powers included healing, she was partial goddess…” she chuckled “Though Ayla has her stories of kicking ass”
Ren laughed “A princess… a goddess.. who kicks ass? I would agree. She can… but when you mention this alternative life – It makes sense. In this world.. are we in love then too?”
“Yes, you are. Ren and Ayla are actually the stable of same sex relationships. They made it more acceptable…” Eva chuckled. “It is so funny to me… I personally had never met the Ren and Ayla of my time. While they still live, still young and able… I dreamt of the day I would meet Ren. I had always looked up to her, and I owned every copy of her Tales, and each record of her songs. People wrote about them… sung about them.. their stories were the hope in our eyes” Eva paused. “And here I sit – infront of that very person, but yet you are not her..”
“Well.. people still adore me” Ren defended “I make a difference.. sometimes I get bum rushed while out shopping” she crossed her arms and huffed slightly.
Eva laughed “I didn’t mean it like that.. I – I’m sorry” she nodded her head. “Our meeting here though.. in this world – tells me that one day in my reality I will meet you. That warms my heart”
“So you mean that we are always connected. In every dimension Ayla and I will always be together?” Ren questioned – smiling brightly.
“Well.. yes, if it is meant to be – if it is truly fate.. you will always be together” Eva responded, nodding slightly.
“It would be interesting to see these other worlds.. it would be fun..” Ren smiled.
“I wish, but here I am. Lost.. and none of this is familiar at all. This is terrifying” she muttered and crossed her arms.
Ren squeezed her eyebrows together and then slumped back slightly, sighing deeply. “You’ll.. figure it out. It sounds like… while Ren and Ayla of your time have their story of greatness – you’re on your own right now. I am sure.. it was never easy for them… but you will come through. If you weren’t going to – you wouldn’t be here. I can’t understand it, or pretend to – what it is to have what you have…” Ren leaned her head back looking to her, a concerned expression over her face. “But you will make it home…”
Eva smiled slightly and nodded. “Thank you…” she whispered and then leaned her head against the wall – the sudden weight of exhaustion over came her. Though her eyes wouldn’t close.. not until she knew Skylar was okay. She stared forward for a long moment. “I…I miss Skylar” she whispered and her eyes filled with tears. “I hope she is out there.” Her voice grew frail, breaking up at the end. She squeezed her eyes shut and fought her tears.

About an hour passed before footsteps were heard from the hallway. The sound of the shoes clicked against the tiles and to the door. Ayla came into the room and gave a gentle smile, she heard the last bit of the conversation that Eva spoke. Ayla stepped forward and sat on the edge of the hospital bed, she was nearly silent, she gave a gentle smile. “She is.” She gave a nod. She fell silent once again, “I went by the O.R. and Dr. Grieves was just closing up, Skylar. It’s going to be okay.” She spoke softly. She turned and placed her hand over Ren’s and gave a gentle squeeze.
A few moments of silence passed before the sound of a bed being pushed down the hallway could be heard. A few nurses pushed Skylar into the room. Ayla pulled the blankets down on the bed and helped the nurses. “Thank you Dr. Sarálonde, it’s good to see you.” A nurse spoke with a smile on her lips. Ayla gave a nod and returned the smile as she looked over Skylar. Checking on her. Making sure that everything was in check. She watched like a hawk as the nurses hooked everything back up. Skylar had an oxygen mask on her face that was pushing 15 mL, the hissing of the air could be heard rushing through the clear tubing. Skylar inspected the IV bags and looked to the machines.
“Dr. Sarálonde, a tad late for you, isn’t it?” Dr. Grieves walked into the room with a smile on her lips. She shook Ayla’s hand before she looked to Ren. “Hello Ren.” She then looked to Eva, her expression loosened, her eyes looked over Eva for a long drawn out moment. She cleared her throat and looked to Skylar then. “Your friend here, barely made it through.” She began, she held a clipboard in her hands that she jotted down a few things on as she looked to the machines. “The tourniquet saved her life, without the pressure against the wound, Skylar surely would have bled out, and the immaculate timing that you got her to the hospital. No doubt the excellent driving of our city hero here.” Dr. Grieves chuckled and grinned. She then looked back to Skylar and touched her gently on the shoulder, Skylar’s eyes fluttered, but she didn’t wake, not yet. “We had a few complications in surgery, she resisted anesthesia and woke in the middle of the operation, and just before that we had to push quite a bit of epinephrine to keep her heart beating. The bullet was shattered into 62 individual shards….” She paused after this.
“So this was a hit?” Ayla stepped in on the conversation. “Who would do this to her?” She crossed her arms tightly across her chest. She didn’t know about the underground fighting ring like Ren. “Ren, we need to find these bastards and lock them away.” She drew her brows together. Frustrated.
Dr. Grieves took in a slow breath. “Yes, it appears that it wasn’t just a random shooting…though, keep in mind, Skylar just locked away Ainsley Stevenson….He was one of the larger bank robbing, murdering, scumbags of this city…anyone that witnessed that case and didn’t agree with it…I mean, it’s motive…”
Ayla gave a nod and a slight sigh as she bowed her head. “I didn’t think about that…” She muttered softly.
Dr. Grieves gave a nod. “Well, I do have a few things that I need to attend to, but first, I need to bring you with me dear.” She looked to Eva. “I have a few key questions that need to be asked of you. From what I understand you are the one who saved, Skylar.” She gave a nod. “Come along.” She stepped from the room and down a few hallways before she held the door open to a beautiful office. She sat down at her mahogany desk and booted up her computer. On her desk was a picture of her with Blake. She wore a beautiful white dress and he wore tux that made him look extremely handsome. Another picture was of them on the alter, their lips pressed together. Blake was her husband. The last name Grieves, that was Blake’s last name. “So, I didn’t catch your name, sweetie.” She gave a gentle smile as she turned her full attention to Eva. “I can’t help but feel that I’ve met you before. Have I?” She questioned, searching Eva’s eyes. “I just have this very odd feeling about you, it’s incredible. It’s like I’ve known you but yet I don’t remember meeting you.” She shook her head and sighed. “Do you know who attacked, Skylar Greystoke?” She asked. “It will really help with us building the case if you saw the attacker. My husband will make sure whoever did this goes behind bars…” She sighed softly. “I can’t believe something like this happened to such a sweet girl, Skylar is always trying to help, and for someone to harm her like this…it’s sickening…” She shook her head in disbelief.

Eva looked to the door as they rolled Skylar in. She stood and approached the edge of the bed, but was shoo’d by a nurse. “Please.. just wait a moment” the nurse spoke as she moved about. Eva stepped back and stood next to Ren. Her eyes looked over the shoulder of the nurse, trying to peer at Skylar.
“Doctor” Ren nodded her head and then let out a nervous chuckle when she mentioned – Ren’s driving. It was truly a miracle, had it been left to a vehicle to bring them… surely Skylar would have died. “62 shards?” Ren shook her head. “That’s insane”
Eva turned and her eyes peered to the Doctor. Dr. Knightley… she tilted her head and then then looked away. It was like she said… they were bound to be linked. “Uh – yes…” Eva followed Dr. Knightley into her office. She sat down across the desk and looked about. Her eyes played to the picture frame that was slightly tilted. She could see… Blake? Knightley and Blake together? She thought for a long moment and then nodding slightly. It could work.. they both are very serious, kind hearted, selfless people. Actually.. Dr.Knightley would be one of the few people she could probably trust with Blake’s heart… besides.. Blake liked his personal time, and a doctor would provide just that.
Eva came back from her zone and stared to the woman. “I.. I’m not sure. Something about you seems very striking as well..” she spoke softly, a lie of course.. “I wasn’t there to witness the attack. Skylar stumbled upon me. We were.. going to meet up for coffee. She is an old school friend of mine and I just happened to be in the city and…” she sighed. “Well.. now we are here… aren’t we?” she shook her head and glanced to the picture. “That’s Blake right? She mentioned him…I didn’t expect to meet his wife, huh?” she smiled weakly. “It is a pleasure to officially meet you, my name is Eva”
“I um.. I’m sorry I can’t provide anything more than that. I would love to be more assistance but… we were just catching up.. I honestly couldn’t even tell you the last time I saw her..” she stood up from the seat. “but.. I’m going to wait in her room with the others” she nodded and went for the door. Just as she got to the frame a large man came rushing in. Eva just barely moved in time to avoid his speed.
“Oh my dearest apologies” he spoke and turned around, looking to Eva. It was Blake… he stood in a business suit, his jacket was wet from the snow… his chest heaved as he had practically ran through the hospital. “I heard of Skylar. Practically ran out of my meeting – is she okay?” he came over to his wife and placed his hand on her shoulder. “Judging by your calm figure, she must be. Which means you did the operation…” he let out a relieved sigh. “I’m glad.. I couldn’t trust anyone else but you my love” he leaned down and kissed her cheek.
Eva stared to Blake.. he was so different here. Usually he was a little stand off ish. But in this world he was so open, loving, adorable even. What if that was really what Blake was like? But just didn’t have that person to love… huh…
“Are you coming?” Blake spoke and waved Eva over. Eva looked up and nodded, walking into the other room once more. She found herself sitting back in the seat. The room was pretty crowded now… Dr.Knightley, Blake, Eva, Ren and Ayla… as she sat the world grew a little dizzier. Her nose bled slightly once again. She leaned her head against the cold wall and shut her eyes, this looming darkness threatened to take her in….
Thud.
“Eva!” Ren jumped from her chair – her hues looking down to Eva who lay face first on the ground, blood leaking from her nose.. over her cheek and onto the tile floor…

Dr. Grieves watched Eva as she spoke. “Hmm…” She looked to her wedding pictures. “Blake, yes, that’s my husband.” She smiled, an adoring smile to the image. She gave a nod and bowed her head slightly. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Eva. It’s okay..” She gave a nod. She then watched as Blake came speeding into the room, she nodded and gave a smile. “I wouldn’t let you’re little protégé die on my watch.” She chuckled, referring to Skylar.
**
The room was silent as everyone awaited Skylar to wake. Ayla had her head leaning against Ren’s shoulder, her eyes were fluttering as she fought to stay awake, she had just gotten home from a 15 hour shift and had just fallen asleep before Ren rushed her out of the home. She was exhausted. Her eyes shot open when Ren jumped up from the chair. Ayla jumped up as well and rolled Eva onto her side. “Eva?” She shook her gently, she brought her brows together. Dr. Grieves knelt on the other side of her. “I’m not sure what’s causing this…” She muttered softly. “Come on.” She spoke as Dr. Grieves helped Ayla get Eva onto a stretcher that was conveniently outside of the room. “Stay with Sky, I’ve got this.” Ayla gave a gentle smile. She pushed Ayla down the hallways rolling about curving and turning, she rolled the cart into one of the service elevators that the gurney would fit into and punched a key. She reached to the box of gloves on the wall and pulled on a pair before she began inspecting Eva, she flashed a light in her eyes and took her pulse as she waited for the elevator to go to her floor. She pushed the gurney off of the elevator and looked around as she came passed the nurses station, “I need fluids, EKG, B/P, get me everything, I’m not sure what’s going on here…she just passed out…” Ayla pushed Skylar into a room before she took off in a sprint down the hallway as the nurses began to hook everything up to Ayla. She ran to her office and grabbed a set of her scrubs and changed quickly before she grabbed one of her medical books. She flipped through it quickly, trying to find something, anything to explain what was happening to Eva.
Ayla ran back to the room and drew several vials of blood before she picked up the phone on the wall. “Hey Jack, it’s Dr. Sarálonde, look, I’m sending you a few vials of blood, can you match it and shoot me up a bag and let me know if you find anything odd in her blood work. Thanks.” She hung up the phone before she turned to Eva. She wheeled over a machine that on the given order would give the medication that the doctor asked for. She punched in a few things before she pulled out a small vial of Factor IX. It was an agent that controlled bleeding, it would help stop the hemorrhaging, she also pulled out a vial of Omnipressin. She hoped that it would help Eva. She saw a few fluxes in her pulse and within the pQRS pattern on her EKG and did her best to understand what it was that was causing this to happen. Omnipressin seemed like the only controversial choice, it was a study drug and wasn’t proven, but there was a chance it could help.
Ayla drew up both of the vials and injected them into the IV line before she sat down in a chair at the edge of the bed. “Come on, Eva. Skylar needs you.” She gave a gentle smile and squeezed her forearm gently.

Meanwhile Dr. Grieves checked over Skylar’s vitals and sighed. “Come on.” She whispered softly as Skylar’s eyes fluttered. “Wake up, sweetie.”
It took several moments, but eventually Skylar’s eyes opened, the beautiful crystal blue stared around the room. Her vision was blurry and in a haze. “Eva…” She whispered.
You need to find Eva…you need to tell her I’m okay…please…tell her I’m here…
“Where…is Eva?” Skylar whispered, her voice was hoarse from the tube being stuck down her throat.
Dr. Grieves smiled and looked to Ren she gave a nod, “This is good.” She looked back to Skylar. “You’re okay honey, Blake is here.”
“B-Blake….” Her voice cracked. “Sauri…” She tried to sit up but Dr. Grieves gently pressed her back. Skylar winced and let out a soft cry of pain.
“Rest, Sky. You were shot, sweetie.” She turned to the machine and punched in a few numbers to allow her a bit more morphine. “Eva will be back soon, she just went on a little walk with Ayla.” She gave a gentle smile, just a small white lie never hurt anything. Right?
Skylar blinked a few times before she finally nodded. “Ren…” She whispered. “Th-thank you.” Her voice was frail. She grit her teeth from the pain in her body as the medication rushed through it.
Woah…what is this stuff….that feels amazing…the pain is gone…wait…why is Eva gone, she wouldn’t have left your side. No, something is wrong…we need to find her…come on.
Skylar winced and held her hand to her head. The voice within her head made her feel dizzy, “Is Eva okay?” She asked softly, her voice full of concern this time. She knew the voice in her head was right. Ayla wouldn’t have taken her for a casual stroll, not when she was in this bed right after surgery.
