Skylar looked to Eva with curious eyes when Ayla asked the initial question. That was something that hadn’t come up in conversation and when she looked to Eva, she felt this flutter within her chest, she felt worried back at the hospital when Eva was ill. Those feelings were not from their encounters, but from Olyver’s encounters in the other world.
“Ah, thank you.” Ayla smiled after Eva commented on her cooking. “It’s not a fantasy novel, but it certainly could be one.” She noted with a smile before she took a sip of her wine and another bite of her food. She listened to the part about how the government captured citizens and syphoned them of their magic. “That’s just…awful…how could anyone do such a thing and not feel any regrets?” She shook her head. Ayla smiled as she looked to Skylar, whom was taking a sip from her wine, she smiled happily to Ayla before she took another bite of food. “It seems our Skylar, and yours, are quite alike, huh Sky?”
Skylar was mid-chew, she widened her eyes as she looked to Ayla and nodded her head, she swallowed. “Y-yeah, I guess so, I mean, I’m just a lawyer, I’m not a rebel leader or anything like that…um…”
Ayla smirked, she nearly rolled her eyes as she turned her attention back to Eva and the story that she spoke about fate and how it was linked through the worlds. She took another bite of food and nodded slightly, it made sense, to her at least. Or at least it made as much sense as she would allow it. Everything in these past few weeks threw her off balance, she wasn’t into believing, she was into science, and there was no science with these things. But, she believed Eva. Ayla took another drink of her wine and topped off her glass before she took a bite of food. “It’s really sad, I would agree with, Ren. Yet, you don’t seem terribly troubled.” Ayla offered a smile. When Ren elbowed Ayla she moved her eyes from Eva, following her eyes as well to Skylar whom was oblivious to the who situation.
Skylar looked up from her plate that was nearly finished, she looked to Ayla and Ren and then to Eva whom had a beautiful smile on her lips. Skylar’s eyes met Eva’s and she blushed and looked down, “Um…did I miss something? I um…I missed something right?” She looked back up, her cheeks were bright red.
Ayla chuckled as she looked to the two, it reminded her much of the beginnings of her relationship with Ren. “Oh, you don’t even know what you’ve missed, Sky.” She grinned, as she looked to the two. “But, that is the perfect bliss of it all, the idea that you’ve no idea.”
Skylar stared to Ayla she looked to Ren and then Eva, “Um…” Her cheeks were still terribly red. “I…I wasn’t paying attention, I’m sorry…I was thinking about something else…and…” She blushed a deeper red when her eyes met Eva’s once more, she stayed locked there for a long moment before she bit her lip and looked back to the food that was set on the table before them.

Eva looked to Ren and Ayla – blushing bright now. She wasn’t oblivious, and with such commentary she realized what was happening. “Uh.. um..” she looked down to her plate and ate at her mashed potatoes. As she realized the truth of the situation she felt a deep hole within her. She was afraid. What if something weird happens with their magic and she gets stuck in a dimension without her, or she dies… there was no telling what her magic would or could do. That in itself was most terrifying. Her potential was truly unlimited…
Eva looked up from her thoughts and stared directly to Skylar. A moment passed and she took a deep breath. “I’m… terribly sorry. I just.. need a second. Some fresh air” she spoke softly and stood up from the table. She pushed her seat in and turned around – heading for the front door.
She slipped her boots on and pulled her jacket over her shoulders. Quietly she opened the door and stepped outside – her feet crunching over the cold snow. The sun had made it’s way, the moon in his place. The large lake outside reflected the moon’s gaze like glass, it lit the entire area up in a hazy milky glow. Eva walked toward the lake and stood before it – the cold breeze wafting off its surface and brushing over her. She took in a deep breath – it was crisp, clean and even tasty. Then slowly she released it.
Everything was changing so fast. Always changing. From the moment she left her home. All this talk of her past made her realize this. As she had ignored the truth. It made her feel a little better about it all. Was it even a month ago? Or was it two? She couldn’t remember. Now she stood in some world.. she knew nothing about. Standing infront of people who look so familiar, but at the same time – are strangers. Were these feelings real? Were they of lust – a want for company? It is true that Skylar had always struck a chord from the get go, but why? What about Skylar made her different from everyone else. Even that question alone was silly.. the answer would be everything…

Skylar sat with a confused look on her face. “Did I do something?” She looked to the empty seat that Eva was once sitting in. She blinked a few times and took in a breath, Olyver was speaking incredibly fast. So fast that she could barely even make out what was happening. She shook her head.
“Are you alright, Sky?” Ayla was at her side, a hand on her shoulder. “Hey.” She shook her gently, “Are you there?”
Skylar’s eyes finally snapped from the empty seat of Eva to Ayla’s face. “Um…I…” She brought her brows together. “I…” She let out a shaken breath.
“Sky, it’s okay.” Ayla spoke just as Skylar stood. She had her hands on her shoulders.
“I have to go….Eva…I…” She blinked several times, her pulse raced. She pulled from Ayla’s gentle grasp and went to the door, she grabbed her jacket and rushed from the home, her heels clicked on the wooden deck outside as she ran out and followed the footprints that Eva had left in the snow. Each step she took crunched loudly. She stopped just a few feet behind, Eva and stared to her. “Eva…” She spoke, her voice soft. Skylar blinked her eyes a few times, her head was pounding, she shut her eyes for a long moment and held her hand to her head. She took in a sharp breath then and stared to Eva, a smile curved up her lips. She took a few steps forward so that she stood close to Eva. “Those moments that we spent together.” She spoke, her voice was different, her accent gone, even in the light of the moon her iris of her eyes was a different color, it was the beautiful emerald green that belonged to Olyver. “Those moments were some of the most beautiful moments that I can remember.” She took Eva’s hand into her own. “You’re hands are warm, and…the moonlight is a really beautiful shade on your skin, your eyes.” Skylar gripped Eva’s hand a bit tighter for a moment, her breath shook. She looked back up to Eva, a drop of blood fell from her nose. “You’ve made me smile more than I can remember.” She whispered.
Suddenly Skylar staggered and leaned heavily against Eva, she gripped onto Eva for support. Skylar gasped for air and stood, she stared to Eva with a loose jaw. Blood dripped from her nose to the white snow, staining it a bright red where it fell. She shuddered as she looked up to Eva, her eyes were crystal blue again. “Eva…are you okay?” She asked softly. “I…” She looked around, “You left dinner…I was worried about you…I…” She searched Eva’s eyes. “You can’t just run off like that, Eva…” She felt the warmth of the blood on her upper lip and brushed at it with the back of her hand. She looked to the bright red blood for a long moment. “I didn’t mean to upset you Eva.” She spoke softly, before she looked back up to her, Skylar searched Eva’s eyes.

Eva turned as she heard footsteps. She took in a breath as Skylar came close. “Skylar..” she spoke softly. She looked to her as Skylar spoke. Her voice changed.. her posture changed.. it was Olyver. As she spoke she felt her heart strings tugging strongly, ripping at her insides. Eva sucked in a breath and shut her eyes. “But…but you’re not here…” she shook her head -a tear drop slipping from her eye. It fell over her cheek and fell off her chin. The drop fell all the way down – landing right onto a bright blob of red. The blood watered down and sunk into the snow…
Eva opened her eyes as Olyver disappeared.. Greystoke was back - her accent subtle but there. Eva stepped forward as she faltered – her arms wrapping around her and pulling her close. “I just needed some air.. that’s all” she whispered and pressed her nose against Skylar’s hair. “It’s hard, you know” she pulled away and looked to her. She brought her thumb up and brushed her blood away, slyly wiping her thumb against her black pea coat. “It is hard to adjust to dramatic change.. you know?” she spoke and then led her toward the door.
“I’m sorry” she spoke and opened the door for her. Eva took her jacket off once more, her boots at the door again. “Ahh.. so much better” Eva spoke as she stretched in the living room. “The air is different here too – I swear it” she smiled and came to the table. “This wine though, it stirs emotions” she winked and finished her glass off.
“So I’ve told you how you two met in the previous life, how did you two meet in this world?” she asked with a smile. Ren had cleaned the left overs up by now, the dining room table was almost clean, aside from a few glasses. Eva walked over to the fire and stood near it, holding her freezing hands out toward the flames.
Eva looked to Ayla, then her gaze moved to Skylar. She caught her eyes and then smiled weakly, hiding her gaze after. Her eyes stared into the fire. The outsider… he’s alone. Alone because he wishes to be… not because the world neglects him. She wouldn’t fall into that trap. Misery is self served… Eva turned around and faced Skylar, giving a real smile this time. Those words she spoke… they rang. It was… romantic, almost cheesy – but in the cute way. She blushed slightly and then went to the couch – climbing onto it by her knees. She placed her hands on the back of the couch – facing Ayla and Ren as they stood, smiling as they told their story.. remembering.

“Oh…” Skylar spoke softly, she searched Eva’s eyes. “I wish there was something I could do to help…” She muttered. She followed Eva back to the home and gave a nod when Eva apologized. “No need to be sorry, Eva. I don’t blame you, I understand.” She gave a weak smile before she stepped inside. Skylar gave a soft laugh when Eva mentioned that the wine stirred emotions. Was that it? Was that the reason for the way she felt? Or was it Olyver? When she took Eva out onto the gazebo in the park, she felt…different. It was a feeling that she hadn’t ever felt, not that she had realized at least. She fell quiet as Eva asked Ren and Ayla about their past. She pulled her jacket off and hung it back at the door before she found her way to the chair. Her eyes followed Eva and she blushed slightly when their eyes met, she looked away and fumbled with her hands a bit.
“Oh that’s a great story, isn’t it babe?” Ayla chimed in just after Eva asked the question. “However it isn’t quite as exciting as your story of us.” She scrubbed at dishes and chuckled as a bit of water splashed up on her from Ren rinsing off the clean dishes. “I was in the last stages of my internship with the hospital, a young doctor, forging my path. I was on my way in to work that day and a huge accident was triggered. I know my car flipped a few times, they said…” She paused and looked to Ren, a gentle smile on her lips. “Eight times is what the police that searched the scene stated…” She handed another dish to Ren. “I was unconscious for most of it. When I opened my eyes, I heard Ren’s voice. She told me to cover my face, I remember the sound of the glass as it was kicked in. Ren pulled me from my car just before it burst into flames. If she hadn’t jumped out of her own car to help, I would have died…” She took in a breath and kissed Ren on the cheek. “I won’t ever forget your eyes, they’re beautiful.” She grinned. She then turned and wiped her hands on a towel before she grasped her wine and came into the living room. Ayla rose a brow when she looked to Skylar. “You’re bleeding.” She spoke as she set the glass down.
Skylar had fresh blood on the back of her hand, she had just wiped away another dribble of blood from her nose. “It’s just the cold weather, Ayla.” She gave a sheepish smile. “Don’t worry.”
“Uh huh.” Ayla looked Skylar over and then looked to Eva for a long moment. She then turned her attention back to Skylar as another drop of blood fell to the back of her forearm. Skylar stood and went to the kitchen she grabbed a towel and brought it to Skylar. “Is it the magic?” She looked to Eva. “Is this something to do with the magic?” She questioned as she grabbed a pen light from the bowl on the coffee table and shined it in Skylar’s eyes.
“I’m fine, Ayla.” Skylar brushed the blood away from her nose, “It’s just a nose bleed, I’m okay.” She pushed the penlight away.
Ayla stood and stared at Skylar for a long moment. “I’m not letting you drive home.” She spoke as she lifted her wine glass again. “Not if you’re not well…Eva, can you drive? Otherwise I have a perfectly good spare bedroom for later..."
"Ayla...." Skylar muttered, defeat in her expression.

Eva looked to Ren with awe, it was a great story none the less. “Another princess in need of saving, it seems” Eva winked and leaned against the back of the couch. When she finished the story she smiled and looked away – Ren and Ayla.. they were too damn cute. Something about them just gleamed perfection.
Eva moved from the couch as Ayla tended to Skylar’s nose bleed. “It’s just a sign that she used magic a little beyond skill level. It’s quite normal…” she spoke softly and then scoffed when Ayla asked if Skylar could drive. “No way… I wouldn’t ever drive one of those death machines” she laughed and then shook her head. “I guess we will just have to stay the night then” she nodded and then sighed. She then asked Ren where the bathroom was – just down the hallway and to the right.
Ren turned and looked to Ayla and crossed her arms. “She has a lot to learn about this world” Ren spoke and then sat down on the couch. She picked up the remote and flicked the tv on. She turned the playstation on and then leaned forward with the controller in her hands. “I just bought this new game - Dishonored 2, check it out” she waved Skylar over. She started the game up and began running around as the young woman, teleporting around.
Eva came from the bathroom and stopped behind them, looking to the TV as she watched. “Huh..” she crossed her arms. Chuckling slightly. “Such an interesting world.. what is that? Some kind of ..”
“Game, its called a video game” Ren spoke and looked over her shoulder. “I thought of it because of you, I just recently bought it. It’s about a girl who.. can teleport and do all kinds of fun cool stuff and she lives in this world were the government is crazy as hell and well” she shook her head. “Makes me think your world’s government isn’t very original” she shook her head. “Like Hunger Games too”
“Oh yeah huh” Ayla chimed and stepped to the back of the couch.
“Weird…” Eva whispered and then sat down on the lazy boy, watching intently. The world was so alike her own, it was weird. And people made this? Was the creator from her dimension or something? It was baffling her mind.

“How are you using magic…?” Ayla wondered when Eva left the room. She stared at Skylar for a long moment.
“I don’t know Ayla…I’m okay, really.” She gave a weak smile. “See?” She stood and came to sit next to Ren on the couch as she called her over to show her the game. “Man, the graphics are excellent.” She grinned. “This is so much better than the first one, huh?” She chuckled.
Ayla sat down on the couch as well, she smiled as Ren explained video games to Eva, and the story behind this game, how it made her think of the world that Olyver and Eva came from. They all sat watching Ren play through the game, slicing the knife through the flesh of the guard. Skylar’s eyes fluttered as she fought to stay away, her head bobbed a few times. Ayla chuckled. “Sky, maybe you should go to sleep, hm?” She stood and tapped Skylar on the shoulder.
Skylar’s eyes opened quickly, she took in a quick breath and stared into Ayla’s eyes. “S-sorry…” She gasped. “I…I’m just so tired.”
Ayla helped her to her feet. “Come on.” She took her down the hallway where they made it to a stair case that led down into the basement. Ren and Ayla had renovated the stale dark basement into a large bedroom with a bathroom to go along with it. Even a small kitchen breakfast bar was tucked in the corner. Ayla opened up a chest and pulled out a pair of pajama bottoms and a tank top, they belonged to Skylar. She at one time used to stay over with Ayla quite often, especially when she was still in law school. The two would stay up late studying. “Here you are, Sky.” Ayla handed her the clothing. “You got it from here?” She smiled, “If you feel sick, just call okay?”
“Y-yeah…” Skylar spoke, still in a daze. She looked around the gorgeous room and sighed. Ayla pulled her into a gentle embrace before she disappeared up the stairs. Skylar went into the bathroom and changed out of her dress, out of her heels. It felt so great to be in comfortable pajamas. She opened the chest again once she was back in the bedroom and pulled out on of her old hoodies. She smiled as she pulled it over her head and snuggled into its warmth. Skylar made her way to the huge bed where she climbed under the blankets and snuggled into the pillow. Within minutes she was out like a light.
**
Ayla came back upstairs and smiled as she came back into the living room. “We only have one spare room, Eva. There’s plenty of space, or if you’d like the couch is also comfortable. But that bed downstairs is definitely better than sleeping up here.” She glanced to a beautiful clock that was hung up on the wall. “I’ve got to go to bed babe, I’m exhausted.” She kissed Ren on the cheek and then with that Ayla slipped off up the stairs to bed.
**
Skylar sat upon a snowy peak, her emerald eyes overlooked as she watched Greystoke wander the world of her dreams. She placed her hand against the invisible barrier that held her out, that blocked her. Her nose dripped slightly, she was still recovering from the extent of magic that she used to take over Greystoke’s body and control her, even though it was only for a few seconds. She wished she could do it again, that she could tell Eva she wasn’t just saying the things she said. Skylar shivered slightly. She felt a cold hand on her shoulder and brought her eyes up to look to the owner of the hand, Remi.
“You can’t stay in here forever, just watching her dreams, Skylar.” He pressed his hand against the invisible glass that blocked Skylar from the dreams. The glass froze and shattered. “You have to believe in yourself. You’re not in your body, yes, but you are just as powerful. You have to trust yourself.” With that he disappeared into a flash of embers and ashes.
Skylar stood slowly, she had on her normal assassin outfit from the guild with her jacket, her scarf rest around her neck. “Trust myself?” She stepped forward through where the barrier had been moments before. She stepped down the snowy mountain and found herself standing upon a frozen lake. Greystoke skated along the lake, giggling happily, Skylar slipped and fought to maintain her balance. Greystoke skated with someone, holding their hand, the person had a hood that blocked their face, though the body was familiar somehow. She pushed forward, slipping and sliding, she slipped and fell forward. Her hands gripped onto the arms of someone, she shut her eyes tightly as she fell to her back. The back of her head slammed against the ice. Skylar opened her eyes, cracking sounded beneath her. She stared into Greystoke’s eyes. “I…” She made to speak but the ice around them gave way, and a moment later the two were submerged beneath the lake, floating in a timeless world as she stared into Greystoke’s crystal eyes. She could hear muffled screaming from above the ice of the lake.
Greystoke fought and kicked her feet, trying to get to the surface, but her body didn’t move from the depth that it was at. Skylar watched as the woman fought for her life, though, she gained no ground.
**
Skylar sat up, gasping for air, she held her hand to her chest which heaved as she fought to pull in more air. “Eva…” She gasped, it was Eva that she was ice skating with in her dream.

Eva glanced up – All that was left was her and Ren. Ren shut down the tv and turned around. “Guess that’s it huh?” she chuckled and then stood up. “Well, good night. See you in the morning. I think I’m going to make pancakes” she smiled and then headed up the stairs.
Eva turned and glanced out the window – it was snowing. It was coming down rather hard, actually. She stepped to the window and then over to the back door. She opened it and stepped through…Once she made it through the door frame she stepped into darkness. The void. She slowly made her way forward on the rock, her eyes looking to the other floating rocks – the dark starry night.
“Outsider..?” she questioned and turned around several times. Nothing.. she moved forward on the huge rock and stared to the next floating rock. She teleported with ease, from stone to stone. She finally go to the largest rock in this part of the void. She rushed forward as she saw a trail of blood – a body on the ground. Eva ran over and kneeled down – her hand on his side. She rolled the body over – the Outsider. He chuckled – his body was cold, and even more pale than usual. “Hey…” she spoke and looked around his body – he had a stab wound in his gut. She pushed her hand against the wound and shook her head.
Behind her a figure walked up, laughing now. Eva turned her head and spied the person. He stood in a full knights attire, silver with gold outlines, and a red cape. The knight drew his sword and thrust it forward. With ease Eva brought her hand up and a glowing bright light formed in her hand – blocking the sword’s attack. Eva looked down to the Outsider and then back. “Who – who are you?” she spoke and the sword came down again. Eva teleported with the Outsider, to the other side of the rock. She looked up and the knight who brought his sword down once more. Eva held her hand up – blocking the attack again. The knight staggered and scoffed. He reached forward and he grabbed Eva by the collar, holding her into the air. Eva gripped his huge arm and struggled against him. The knight laughed, dark and evil, and tossed her over the side of the platform.
Eva tried to teleport but there was no where to go – she couldn’t see anything. Suddenly she hit a barrier…
Eva stepped through the door into the snow expanse and looked out. The sun was rising… She took in a gasp of air as she suddenly came to, some how back in reality once more. She looked around frantically… the Outsider.. that Knight, who was that knight? She stepped back inside and shut the door, her breathing was frantic.
Eva turned and teleported to the hallway. Okay..good she still had her powers… Why did the outsider bring her there? Who was that Knight? Why was he hurt? Was he going to die? No.. no way. He couldn’t.. there had to be a reason. She slowly made her way down the steps to the basement..
She made her way down to the bed and looked to Skylar, who was rolling around in her sleep. “Hey..” she spoke and placed her hand on her shoulder.
She could see the tail end of the dream – The hood fell from the woman as she slunk into the icy water. Eva… Eva and Skylar.. she reached forward when suddenly the dream ended..
Eva grabbed Skylar’s hand, shaking her slightly - “hey – it’s just a dream” she spoke and crawled onto the bed. She pulled Skylar upward – to sit up, her face close to hers. “Hey – Hey, breath” she spoke and brushed her hair with her fingers. “It’s okay..” she spoke softly and nodded. She looked up to the ceiling as there was thudding – Ren was coming down the stairs and headed to the kitchen to start breakfast. It was already breakfast… how did..?
Eva looked to Skylar and smiled “Let’s get a warm cup of coffee…” she spoke and helped her out of the bed. She moved close – her hands reaching around and straightening out Skylar’s shirt in the back. “There we go” she spoke – their chests were barely touching. “Are you okay?” she spoke – pausing for a moment, before pulling away..

Skylar’s eyes shot open, she stared into Eva’s eyes, her body trembled slightly, tears rolled down her cheeks as she gasped for air. Her eyes were emerald green. “Eva…” She whispered, she blinked and her eyes melted back to the crystal blue. Skylar gripped Eva’s hand tightly, her body ached. She stared into Eva’s eyes as she brushed her hair from her eyes. The dream was so vivid, so real. “Coffee…yeah…” She blinked several times, she was dizzy. She leaned forward as Eva adjusted her shirt, she took in a deep breath and stared at Eva. “I…” Skylar searched Eva’s eyes as she backed away. “I think I’m okay…” She muttered softly. “Thank you.” She stared at Eva and gave a smile finally, she thought of the dream, of skating with her and her cheeks blushed slightly. “Coffee, Ayla and Ren buy some good coffee too.” She stated as she headed up the stairs.
Skylar was hugged by Ayla before she returned to making breakfast. “Good morning you two.” Ayla smiled brightly, she wore her scrubs, she had to be to work soon. The television was on, a man on the screen was giving the news report on the weather.
“Snow will continue throughout today and tomorrow, the roads are hazardous, the plows are out trying to make your daily commute as safe as possible. Make sure you leave for work with plenty of time to get there. Multiple accidents have been reported this morning, making your commute last quite a bit longer.”
“Of course.” Ayla sighed as she flipped pancakes in the skillet.
Skylar sat down at the breakfast bar and smiled when Ayla set a coffee down in front of her and Eva. “Thank you, Ayla.”
Ayla smiled, “Of course. You should like that stuff, since you gave a me a cup at your house I’ve been on the hunt for the best coffee I can find.” She chuckled. “Oh!” She spun around and flipped the pancake, it was just right, any second longer and it would have burned.
Skylar looked to Ren and grinned, she knew the story of the first time Ayla had tried to cook for Ren. She was trying to be sweet and make breakfast, but with her background, she hadn’t really ever had to cook. So she didn’t know how. “Did you burn it?” Skylar asked, a smirk on her lips as she sipped her coffee.
Ayla flipped the pancakes onto the plates and looked to Ren before she chuckled and set down the perfect pancakes in front of Eva and Skylar. “I’ve come a long way, thank you very much. Hmph.” She then turned off the stove top. In front of Eva and Skylar were pancakes, bacon and an egg. Ayla sat down at the bar with them and sipped her coffee. “Be careful on your way back to the north side of town, Sky.” She spoke as the news reporter continued to talk about the treacherous roadways.
“Don’t worry, Ayla. We’ve got Rocket. He’ll keep us safe.” She chuckled, Rocket was the name for her Mini. “I bet we will do even better than you in your jeep, huh?”
Ayla rolled her eyes, “I’ll be pulling you out of our driveway.” She chuckled.
Skylar laughed and shook her head as she stared down at her food. She ate a few bites before she found herself blankly staring off, in thought. She stared at Eva, her cheeks warm. She kept replaying the dream over and over in her mind. What did it mean?
Ayla stared to Skylar for a moment before she realized that Skylar was staring to Eva. She smirked and bumped Ren, “Look.” She whispered softly before she took another bite of her food.

Eva led Skylar into the kitchen where she sat down at the bar. “Good morning Ayla, Ren..” Morning. Morning already? She hadn’t slept. Just a few minutes ago it was still night.. the snow was piling down. And in an instant she saw that terrible scene. Was the Outsider dead? How would she know? She shivered at the thought, holding her coffee cup close now for warmth.
Eva grinned as Ayla cooked. Ren came to the bar table, dressed in her SWAT uniform – everything but her vest. She wore a long sleeve black SWAT shirt, the logo on the back, tucked into her tactical pants. Ren put her hands on the table and grinned as she saw the perfect stack of pancakes. “You should have seen it” she cheesed – “On our first date Ayla asked me – what do you look for in a person? She was looking for a sophisticated answer… what was my response? A woman who can cook a pancake just perfectly. Where the bread is a little crisp but not burnt – there’s a big difference from crisp to burnt” Ren grinned from ear to ear. “She looked at me with this seriously blank face like – did this person just say that to me? But.. then I laughed – and she did too. That laugh..” Ren turned her face and stared to Ayla for a long moment. “Our second date we had a picnic. She brought an electric travel stove – and cooked me pancakes” she chuckled and then sat down – piling her plate with pancakes.
Eva followed suit and then looked to Ren. “And? Were they perfect?”
Ren laughed – a deep, lovely laugh – “No, no they weren’t.. but they came from a perfect woman. So I think I was happy then” Ren turned her head to Ayla and smiled. She loved embarrassing Ayla with these stupid cute cheesy stories, but the truth was that they were real. And even more so – Ren meant what she said..
Eva poured syrup on her pancakes and took a bite. “Well.. these are perfect” she spoke after she chewed. “And I’m in that business - these are amazing” she grinned and turned her vision – looking Skylar for a moment. She chuckled when she spoke about the Mini.. Rocket huh. After the conversation Skylar was out in space – her eyes glued to Eva. Eva blushed bright when she noticed and then snapper her head to Ren and Ayla. “Hey..” she shook her head and then she turned her head.
A ringing came from the couch. Eva stood and made her way to her bag that Amara gave her. She dug through the bag and pulled a smart phone from the bottom. “oh” she spoke and stared to the screen. “Touch the screen – swipe the green” Ren spoke, headed over to Eva. Eva touched the green and then swiped it. “Wow.. uh.” She pulled the phone up to her ear, like she did when Ren called Skylar. “Hello?” “Good morning Eva, I’m glad to see you found your phone. Keep it, Skylar mentioned yours fell out of your pocket when you saved her…” Amara spoke “Oh.. yeah, well I really appreciate it, thank you” Eva spoke, she moved to the couch and sat down.. “Well, anyways. I hope you slept well. Skylar mentioned to me that you used to be a Baker back in the day. I know a very high end café. Café Underway, it is actually under the Gate bridge. It’s pretty high class. Anyways, I’ve hooked you up with an interview after lunch. I will text you the number to the manager there. Is that okay, does that sound sufficient? It is a very over payed job..” Amara spoke into the phone.
“Oh – yes, no I will accept absolutely. I really appreciate that. I look forward to the details.” “Good, listen – do your best. I really had to pull some strings to make this happen. Make it worth my efforts. See you later darling”
“Thank you again Amara, see you..” Click.
Eva turned and then stood. “Looks like I have an interview at Café Underway” she spoke and crossed her arms. “Ohh, that’s a really fancy Café, you’ll love it there. The atmosphere is glorious. I’ve only been there a few times, it feels like you’re stepping across seas and sitting in a glorious French Café, on the water and all. You know – one of the ways to get there is by Canal Boat ride, he even has a French accent. Oui oui!” Ren laughed and then walked over to Ayla. She planted a sweet kiss on Ayla’s lips and then smiled. “Off I go little bird”

Skylar snapped out of her daze when she heard the ringtone. She glanced to Eva as Ren helped her answer the phone.
“Did you sleep okay, Sky?” Ayla asked as she tossed the dishes into the dishwasher and rinsed off her hands.
“Oh…um…” Skylar looked to Ayla with red cheeks. “I had a dream…” She spoke softly.
“Oh?” She smirked, “Do tell, I love dreams.” She gave a gentle laugh.
Skylar took in a breath, “I’m not sure what to make of it, but it was about Eva…” She glanced to Eva whom was still on the phone with her mother. “We were ice skating.”
“Ohhh you love to ice skate.” Ayla winked, “Something must be grouping those two things together, huh?” She chuckled. Ren came over in that moment and gave Ayla a kiss. Ayla held onto Ren’s belt for a moment, holding her close. “Be safe my love.” She spoke and then kissed her quickly again before she turned and put away the last few dishes.
Skylar smiled to Eva. “That’s excellent news. I’ll help you get ready for the interview.” She pulled on her coat. “Come on.” She followed Ayla out the door to her car. Skylar hugged Ayla and Ren goodbye before she climbed into her Mini and cranked up the engine. It rumbled happily. Skylar shivered, “It’ll heat up, I promise, just…g-give it a minute.” She rubbed her hands together a moment before she turned the wheel and followed Ren’s tracks out of the drive. “See? No problem in the snow.” Skylar chuckled, Ayla was right behind them just in case.
Once they were out of the driveway the roads were relatively plowed, the pavement was icy and snow packed, but they could get by. Skylar drove through the hustle and bustle of the city. She reached into her pocket when they were at a red light, her phone was chiming from her pocket. “Hello?” She asked. She squished the phone against her ear as she started with traffic again, managing to shift. “Y-yeah, I’ll be in, I’m just headed home. Don’t worry. Okay….yes….thank you Blake….yes…..I will be ready….got it….okay…bye….” She placed the phone in her lap. The screen went blank. “I’ve got a case.” She smiled as she turned through the city. “So, what I can do, you can come to work with me, and I’ll take you to your interview, okay? Otherwise getting around in public transportation is a nightmare, and not to mention you’re not from here, so….” Skylar chuckled. She smiled to Eva and then frowned slightly. “Are you okay?” She asked as she pulled up to another red light. “You seem…like there is something on your mind…” She looked to the tall buildings, they were downtown, getting close to home already. Traffic wasn’t too bad, the storm was to thank for that. She curved down the roadways happily. As they approached her home she tilted her head slightly. “Who’s car is that?” She wondered out loud. She pulled up next to the black coupe. It had mean body lines and a spoiler. The brake calipers were painted red. The emblem on the front was that of a BMW. “Mother….” Skylar spoke softly and shook her head.
Skylar cut the engine and stepped out. She looked to the beautiful black paint that appeared to be frosted over. “I’m sorry about this, Eva.” She spoke as she walked into her home. On the breakfast bar was an envelope with a key to the car sitting on top of it. “I um…” Skylar looked to Eva. “My mother…” She took in a breath and sighed, “She’s just trying to help you out…I uh…that car is for you…um…I know you don’t know how to drive it…I’ll teach you when we have time, okay?” She turned and sighed again. “Okay, I’m going to go get ready for work now…” She ran up the stairs to her room then, leaving the envelope and key on the table.
Skylar walked into her closet and picked out a few things. She pulled on a set of black slacks and a black blouse that had a white blouse piece beneath it. She then pulled on her dress sweater which was grey with a hood, the tail of the sweater reached down about mid thigh. It looked rather classy. She slipped on a pair of flats and then fixed herself up in her mirror before she headed back down the stairs. “Are you alright? You look exhausted Eva…” She stepped forward and searched Eva’s eyes.

Eva climbed into the car – setting her bag of goodies at her feet. She brought her arms together and nodded. Within minutes the car warmed up and it was toasty. “Okay, I appreciate that a lot. Once I get the lay of the land, I will be able to travel easily.” She smiled. She leaned her head against the window and yawned. She hoped she could last that long, to the interview..
Eva perked up when they came to Skylar’s home. There was a killer looking car sitting in the driveway. She looked over to Skylar as her expression changed about – “Hm..” she climbed out of the car and made her way inside. “That was.. awfully nice..” she spoke softly and looked to the keys. “Don’t.. worry about it. Your mother – she is very generous” she spoke and made her way to the bathroom. She picked out a pair of black slacks and a silky white top. She tucked it into her pants and then pulled her coat on. After brushing through her hair she gave a sigh. “As good as it’s going to get” she brought her fingers to the bags under her eyes.
Eva stepped out of the bathroom and came to Skylar who stood in living room. “Yeah uh – I am, really tired. Last night..” she shook her head. “My magic did some.. funny business. I saw the outsider but.. he was really hurt. When I came out of the state it was morning, so I haven’t slept at all” she let out a sigh. “I’m going to need a pick me up or something. An entire pot of coffee.. just eject it into my veins” she spoke and then nodded. “But – we need to go, right? You have work” she nodded and followed Skylar out to her car.
Eva climbed into the car and leaned against the window. She shut her eyes – for just a second – and then she fell asleep. They slept the entire car ride. When the car’s friendly white noise rumble shut off she woke up. She looked around and then blushed “Sorry” she spoke softly. She pulled her pea coat close – buttoning it. “What kind of case are you taking up, do you know?” she questioned as they walked to the main entrance…

Skylar frowned slightly, “I hope he is okay, and I’m glad that you’re okay…I’m sorry you didn’t get any sleep.” She gave a nod. She laughed when Eva mentioned injecting her with coffee, “I’ve got something even better in mind.” She smirked as they headed out to the car. She drove with the music on, a bit of acoustic to help Eva relax. She smiled as she looked over to see Eva fast asleep. Skylar took the long route to work, she even stopped at a gas station, she carefully got out of the car, she left it running and ran inside where she grabbed two energy drinks. She climbed back in the car and glanced at Eva, “Good.” She muttered softly, she was hoping she wouldn’t wake her. Skylar then drove the rest of the way to work and navigated the parking garage. She had a reserved parking space on the fourth floor, it even had her last name painted on the pavement. Skylar cut the engine and smiled as Eva woke. “No, no, you need sleep.” She gave a nod as she climbed out of her car.
“The case.” Skylar gave a nod as she held the energy drink out in Eva’s direction. “Yes, it’s actually going to be a rather good one. I’m going to be prosecuting a man named Elias. He is a soldier in our military, which will make this case harder. However he has been found on several counts of torturing innocent people, and when I say torturing.” She stepped into the elevator of the building and pressed the button for the 10th floor, top floor. “I’m not joking, he did some things that even make Ayla and Dr. Grieves cringe when we spoke about it….and if an Emergency Room and an ICU doctor cringe to injuries, that’s how you know it’s bad.” Skylar looked to Eva, “I have a couch in my office, you’re welcome to make use of it until this afternoon.” She smiled as the elevator opened.
“Good morning Miss Greystoke.” A voice came from behind the counter, from a small old lady that typed away.
“Good morning, Francis.” Skylar smiled as she walked into the offices. She led Eva down the hallway and stopped at her office, her name was on the door in golden lettering. “Home sweet home.” She smiled to Eva as she turned the lock with her keys and pushed the door open. She stepped into her office. It was large. She had a few bookcases, full of books. The couch, which looked as comfortable as it was. She often took a short nap on her lunch break if she had been having a rough time sleeping. Skylar sat down at her huge mahogany desk, she opened up her energy drink and sipped from it as she logged herself into her computer.
“Skylar.” James stood in the doorway. “My office please.” He looked to Eva and gave a gentle smile. “Good morning. You’ll have to excuse us for a moment.”
Skylar gave a nod. “Of course.” She stood, “Just make yourself comfortable.” Skylar smiled before she left the room and pulled the door shut behind her. She made her way down to the office at the end of the hallway. She stepped into James’ office and sat down across from him at his desk. “Good morning.” She smiled.
James looked up to Skylar and smiled before he took a sip of his coffee. “So, tonight.” He began. “You’ll be coming.” He stared to her, “Since Jasper and his boys were caught I’ve had an influx of new fighters, I need someone to show them their place before they get too cocky and too comfortable, and besides, the bets on you.” He grinned. “I can always count of my wild card, hm?”
Skylar stared at James, Olyver in her head was nearly screaming. “Yeah, of course.” She smirked. “I need a good fight or two.” She grinned.
“What about your friend?” James asked.
“Oh no.” Skylar shook her head. “I’m not going to ask her to come, she’s not the type.”
James smiled and gave a nod. “I see. Well, I’ve gotten quite a bit more stringent on the club members. To ensure safety, I’m sure you won’t mind. I’ll also get you a closer parking space tonight, for your first night back.” He chuckled. “Just, make sure you win, Skylar. Oh and, another treat. One of the boys that I know worked for Jasper, he’ll be there tonight. You’ll fight him.”
Skylar blinked several times. “Alright.” She gave a nod, She felt dizzy.
“Come on kid, get excited.” He chuckled, it felt like only a second, he was around the desk and patted her shoulder. “Alright, off to work this case of yours.”
Skylar stood and nodded, “Of course, sir.” She spoke softly before she made her way to Blake’s office. She spent several hours with him, conversing and going over the case. She filled a folder with material before she headed back to her office. She opened the door quietly and set the folder down on the table. She looked to the time, if they left now she could get Eva lunch before her interview. She stepped over to Eva and gently shook her shoulder. “Eva.” She spoke softly, “Let’s go get some lunch, huh? So you can be ready for your interview.” She smiled.

Eva walked around the room, observing it closely. She peered to the collection of books – they were all lawyer related. “hmm..” she finally made her way to the couch and sat down. She pulled her phone from her pocket and swiped the screen. She tilted her head a long moment as she navigated through the various windows. “huh..” she poked at the screen. Something popped up and she stared to it. Browser? She scrunched her brows together and tapped the square. Suddenly some keys popped up. She spelled out the world Outsider – very slowly, and finally hit go.
The browser took a second and then she stared to the description. Out – sid-er. 1.a person who does not belong to a particular group. 2. A competitor, applicant,etc..thought to have little chance of success. Eva scrunched her brow some more and then punched in Outsider void. She glanced at the next screen. The void.. dishonored wiki.. then to the images. She selected images and stared at the pictures. It looked just like him. What was this? That game.. that game that Ren played. The makers had to have known of her Outsider. That was the only explanation. They used him in this game.. does he play the same role… would this help her understand him? She clicked on the Outsider Wiki page and began to read about it.
While reading she felt her eyes get heavy – in a few minutes she slumped down into the couch, her phone sitting on the couch arm rest…
Next she knew she was shook awake. Eva slowly rose and looked around – then to Skylar. “oh, huh, yeah, that sounds good” she spoke and brushed away at her cheek. She stood and slipped her phone into her pocket. “That sounds good” she followed Skylar. “These phone things – are awesome. All of the information you’d ever dream of .. right here” she held the phone up and then chuckled. “We would kill for something like this.. back at home” she slipped the phone into her pocket and climbed into Rocket.

Skylar chuckled as she climbed into her car. “You have so much to learn.” She grinned. “If you think phones are amazing, just wait until you see all of the other amazing creations we have in this world. It sounds like you’ve been living in the stone age.” She giggled as she drove down the road. The streets were slush now from all of the traffic. Skylar turned corners and navigated through the city until they came to a small restaurant. “Perfect.” She slipped Rocket into a compact car space and climbed out. “You’ll love this place. Their mac and cheese is to die for.” She grinned as she headed inside. Skylar followed the hostess as they were taken to a table that was off back away from all of the other lunch guests. Skylar picked up the menu.
“Your regular, Miss Greystoke?” The waitress came up and poured a glass of water. “Or will you be changing it up today?” She smiled.
“Oh that is a hard decision.” Skylar grinned as she searched over her menu. “Give us a minute, this is the first time here for my friend.” She smiled and then looked to Eva. “Everything on the menu is excellent.” She nodded before she sipped from her water. She smiled as she looked to Eva for a moment, her cheeks blushed and she shook her head slightly. “Um…I have a dinner thing to go to tonight.” She spoke as she set her menu down, keen on getting the same thing she always got. “I can take you home and you can settle in and do whatever you like. It’s a business thing, so unfortunately it’ll just be me and the firm there.” She lied. “I hope that’s okay. I can take you over to Ren’s if you’d be more comfortable with that?” Skylar sipped from her water, she felt dizzy.
You can’t do this. This is how you almost died. You absolutely are not going to go to this thing. James is using you, he doesn’t care if you get hurt. Did he show up to the hospital? Huh? Didn’t think so. He didn’t even check in on you one time. Come on! Listen to me! Olyver continuously spoke, her words were quick, this was the root to Skylar’s dizzy spell.
Skylar blinked a few times and held her hand to her head. She sighed softly and nodded to the waitress as she asked if she was going to have the same order once again. “You know, I had an interesting dream last night. Though not as good as your adventure.” She finally spoke, she had to focus a lot of her energy to speak, to listen to Eva. Skylar stared at Eva, she smiled as Olyver quieted slightly, pleading for her to listen. “Though, I must introduce you to ice skating, you seemed to like it in the dream.” Skylar giggled, “It’s a lot of fun, really.”
