“A date…..yes…” Skylar turned her head slightly just as Eva stepped up to her and placed her hand on her back. Skylar’s breath froze in her chest as Eva’s lips pressed against her cheek. She blushed and smiled when Eva stated that she would love the date. Skylar washed off the few dishes and placed them into the drying rack as Eva spoke of Olyver in the other world. How she was the Warden’s daughter, too busy, and it was expected that she didn’t have the time for such affairs. Skylar had a smile on her lips as she watched Eva speak, she leaned against the breakfast bar, when Eva stated that she had feelings for her as well her cheeks flushed red again and she let out a soft laugh. She stood at the counter for a long moment in silence, her eyes looking over Eva. “I’m grateful that you feel the same.” She let out a soft chuckle, nervous. She had butterflies whipping around within her stomach. “So…” She pushed her hands into her pockets and pulled out her phone. “Let me make the reservation then.” She gave a nod as she clicked a few screens and then held the phone to her ear. She waited as the phone rang and finally the hostess picked up, “Reservations for two please….yes, definitely….of course, Greystoke….” She smiled to Eva, “That time would be perfect, thank you, see you then.” She then hung up the phone.
Skylar stepped to the window that overlooked the snowy world outside. She smiled, “I couldn’t imagine living in a world without snow. Or even a world that I am not allowed to…have feelings.” She looked to Eva. “I would be in a lot of trouble in your world huh?” She then laughed, “I’m not sure I would be able to follow the rules.” She grinned, “I’ve gotten myself into trouble for as long as I can remember. My mother would always have to hunt me down, I’d be covered in mud from wrestling with the boys.” She then laughed, “I used to get in so much trouble, and now, what do I do? I go to a fight club.” She sighed and shook her head. “Our dinner will be at 4.” She nodded, “Pick something out, dress up.” She grinned, “I’m sure you’ll love it.” She fell silent then for a moment and looked to her reading chair in the corner. She usually spent most of her days off in that corner when she didn’t have work to be completed. Skylar looked to Eva then and gave a nod. “I have to call Blake and go over a few things with the case, and put some work into it, I’ve got to get caught up.” She gave another smile. “Make yourself at home, if you need anything I’ll be in my study upstairs, it’s the first door on the right.” She stared at Eva for a moment, her eyes locked on Eva’s, a smile crept onto her face, her heart fluttered. She then grinned before she headed up the stairs.
Skylar was in her study for most of the day, she compiled paperwork for the case, and looked into evidence and other things that would make the case stronger. The first round of trial would be on Monday. She held her hand to her forehead and let out a soft sigh. The world around her seemed to flicker and slow. She looked up from her desk to see Olyver standing in front of her in her warden’s uniform.
“You have to promise me something.” Olyver spoke, she had tears in her eyes.
Skylar furrowed her brows she looked around, the clock on the wall was stopped in its place. “What’s going on?” She asked as she stood from the desk. The sound of the wheels on the bottom of her chair rolling over the wood floor was deafeningly loud.
“That dream, the Reaper, you remember.” She began, “It wasn’t a dream, Skylar.” Olyver spoke, she had her hand on her side, blood leaked out over her fingers.
“You’re bleeding.” Skylar made to step forward, but it felt as though her feet were frozen into the floor. She fought against the odd feeling and grit her teeth, she wasn’t strong enough.
“I can’t hold him off forever, Skylar.” Olyver spoke, she took a step forward and placed her hand on the side of Skylar’s cheek. Skylar gasped as she felt a strange energy course through her veins. “Promise me that you’ll do what is right.” Olyver spoke softly. “If it comes to that, promise that you’ll follow through.”
“I…” Skylar felt as though she couldn’t breathe. “I…” She blinked several times, her body was ice cold. She hadn’t felt a cold like this, not since that night that she was shot.
“Promise?” Olyver asked.
“I promise.” Skylar finally choked out.
Olyver gave a gentle smile. The world around them caved into blackness. Skylar fell to her hands and knees with a loud thud. She gasped for air and looked around. She could hear the howl of the wind outside her window, the sound of snowflakes hitting the side of her home. She stared around as she fought to breathe. Her eyes were wide, she slowly stood, she felt different somehow. What was Olyver talking about? She rubbed her arms, the cold still chilled her to the bone. She looked to her desk as a drop of blood leaked from her nose. She wiped it away and looked to the crimson liquid for a moment before she made her way to her room. Skylar stared into the mirror for a long time into her crystal blue eyes, she brushed away another trickle of blood. “What’s happening?” She questioned, her voice quivered slightly.
Skylar shook her head and stepped into her room where she walked into her closet and picked out an outfit. She pulled on a pair of black leggings and then slipped on a long dress sweater over the top, it was a lovely shade of grey that brought out her eyes. She then fixed a cute black bow in her hair before she did her make up and pulled on a pair of dress boots that accented the outfit nicely. She then pulled on a scarf around her neck and adjusted it before she headed downstairs. “Ready?” She smiled to Eva, still slightly visibly shaken up by the vision that Olyver gave her.
Skylar helped Eva open the door of Rocket before she climbed into her side and started up the cold car. After a few minutes down the road the head began to blast in their faces. “I’m excited for this.” Skylar grinned. She looked over to Eva as they sat at a red light. “This is the best dinner spot in town, though, I’ve never been. My mother and father go here quite often.” She smiled as she took a few turns. She then pulled into a parking garage and jumped out to help Eva with the door. “Come on.” She grasped Eva’s hand and towed her through the city streets and down through what looked like a telephone booth into an underground restaurant. The setting was rather romantic. The hostess greeted the two and then led them through the dimly lit restaurant back into a corner where they were sat in a booth that would only seat two people, side by side. Skylar smiled as she slipped into the booth. She grinned to Eva, “The drinks here are excellent.” She nodded. She lifted the menu and when the waiter came back she ordered a drink and some food. Skylar looked to the hot plate that was in the table in front of them. “They’ll cook our food right in front of us.” She grinned. She then pulled at the rose that was in the vase on the table. She smiled, “White roses are beautiful.” She spoke softly. “So many people are drawn to the red rose, but you know, the white rose is the symbol for innocence, true love.” She smiled, her cheeks red. She asked the staff to put the rose on the table when she reserved their seats. She then fell silent and sighed softly, as she was reminded by her subconscious that Eva would one day soon leave to embark on the rest of her journey through life.

Eva stepped to the other side of the kitchen counter. She knelt her elbows onto the counter and turned a small vase around – her eyes looking to decorations engraved in the material. She glanced up as Skylar spoke on the phone – and then it was done. She smiled and listened as Skylar spoke, chuckling as she spoke about not being able to follow the rules. “I don’t really think Skylar ever did truly follow the rules” she laughed and then walked to the couch.
“Alright, see you at 4 then” she made her way into her bedroom, where she dug around in her bag for suitable clothing. Eva finally picked out a button down black dress shirt, a pair of slacks. It was the only thing she had that wasn’t too girly, or too casual. She set it aside and then crawled onto the bed, the little sleep she got the previous night was calling at her…
The evening came swift. She heard Skylar come down the stairs – the slight thudding waking her. Eva jumped awake – thinking she had slept too late, that they were going to be late to the dinner. She scurried around the room and quickly got ready.
She rushed into the living room, running a brush through her hair just as she came out. She paused as her eyes came to Skylar, who stood – looking away. Eva smiled - butterflies gathering in a swarm about her stomach. “Oh uh- yeah” she set the brush down. She came closer to Skylar and squeezed her brows together. “You okay? Is Olyver bugging you again?” she spoke and placed a hand on her shoulder blade as they walked out the door. Eva pulled her pea coat in and buttoned it up.
As they road in rocket Eva glanced over to her. She looked to her fingers wrapped around the steering wheel, her eyes looking out to the road. She seemed very focused – something was on her mind, she could tell. Eva looked back to the road and smiled “You look very lovely” she spoke as she stepped out of the car. She blushed when Skylar took her hand and led her down the street. She followed very confusedly as they came to the telephone booth, but to her surprise it led down into the ground. “Oh, cool” she laughed as they continued down.
They recognized Skylar almost immediately and led them to their booth. They winded through the restaurant until they came to a little nook, hidden away. She liked the privacy of it. Eva sat down, closest to the wall. Eva picked up the rose and twirled it in her fingers. “Purity” she smiled and set the rose back in the small vase. “Gentle… soft.. smooth.. all the terms to describe an angel perhaps” she turned slightly, her knee pressing against Skylar’s thigh. “Beautiful and delicate, yet a sign of power and strength, standing out from all others. It sounds like someone familiar” she grinned and took a sip of wine that she ordered. It was a strawberry moscato wine that had a sliced strawberry on the rim. “Mmm this is good” she smiled and took another sip.
“So” she plucked the strawberry off the rip and held it forward – infront of Skylar’s lips. She grinned when Skylar took it by her teeth. She tilted her head as she looked to Skylar for a long moment and then back to her glass. “Something is bothering you” she whispered and glanced back.

Skylar watched Eva a soft smile on her lips as she lifted the rose into her fingertips. She blushed as Eva’s knee bumped into her thigh. As she stated that the rose reminded her of someone she knew, she knew that Eva was hinting that it was her. Skylar grinned as she took the strawberry into her mouth, the lingering taste of the moscato on the fruit. She reached forward and took a sip of her drink, she had ordered a beverage that was delightfully called a hot apple pie. Skylar took her eyes from Eva when she brought up that something was indeed bothering her. She was trying so hard to mask it, but clearly, Skylar wasn’t great at hiding things when she was bothered. “I had a disturbing dream last night.” She spoke softly, “It was a dream with the reaper in it, the same reaper that Olyver and her own reaper saved me from when I was shot…” Her voice was soft. “The reaper, in the dream, told Olyver that she would have to make a choice, that he could only protect her and I for so long before she would be faced with a difficult decision.” Skylar finally looked to Eva, she searched her eyes for a moment, “It’s just a dream though, right?” She let out a soft laugh and took another long sip from her drink.
Skylar grinned as the waiter brought forward the appetizer of vegetables and fruits. He mixed together the wine concoction that they were to dip their food into to cook. He then left to his next table. Skylar looked to Eva a long moment, “You’re going to love this.” She smiled, changing the subject. She wasn’t sure what to make of the dream…or the dream that she had during the day. It made time pass so quickly. She looked to the clock at noon, and the next thing she knew it was 3pm. When she fell in the middle of the room, frozen and fighting to breathe. She still had a hard time believing in magic, she knew it existed. She knew it. But it was a hard concept to really accept. Not to mention, a reaper, being after her? She was alive and well. Skylar bit her lip slightly as she thought she then grinned. “You look really beautiful, Eva.” She added and flashed a gorgeous smile. She pulled her food from the pot and took a bite of a carrot, then a mushroom. She then took another drink of her hot apple pie. “I’m really glad that you came, from what it sounds like in the world you come from there isn’t anything like this place.” She chuckled happily.

Eva tilted her head as Skylar spoke of her dream. She let out a soft sigh and shook her head. “We have a history with reapers.. a dream? I don’t know” she spoke softly and then took a sip of her wine. “Originally a reaper was after Olyver in the past, because she had pretty much died. What happens is… when you die and you should have stayed dead.. but didn’t.. the reaper comes back for you, you know. I wonder if that night… you got shot – that you were supposed to really die..” she paused and leaned back in the seat, her mind racked with thought.
Olyver had to make a choice… she glanced away and ran her fingers up and down the skinny portion of her wine glass. “I don’t know what to make of it. But” she glanced up and smiled “I won’t let anything happen to you. I protected you In my world, I protected you then – and I’ll protect you now” she smiled and poked at a mushroom in the small pot. She pulled it out and then plopped it in her mouth. “Ohh – hootttt” she opened her mouth and began to blow air through her teeth. She then laughed and swallowed it quickly. “Well” she chuckled “that was good though” she took a sip of her water and blushed. After a second she plucked a broccoli out and held it for moment.
“This world is so different, I do like it. And this especially, this is really cool” she ate her broccoli and nodded. “Yeah, mm good” she looked over to Skylar. Skylar was bringing a mushroom up to her lips, after blowing on it for a moment. With smooth reflexes – Eva moved over, brushing her chest against Skylar’s shoulder – she bit into the mushroom, stealing it off her stick that was just inches from her lips. Eva chewed it and swallowed, laughing as she leaned back into her seat, grinning wildly.

Skylar watched Eva as she thought about the dream, as she spoke of the reaper from their world. She finished off her drink and blew on the mushroom and just before she was about to bite into it she laughed when Eva stole it from her. “My mushroom is better than yours huh?” She giggled, “At least mine didn’t burn your mouth.” She winked. She leaned close to Eva, her hand on Eva’s thigh, she stared into Eva’s eyes and giggled again, her cheeks pink. “I trust that you’ll keep me safe, Eva. You saved me that night, if I was meant to die, you saved me from it.” She kissed Eva’s cheek then before she leaned back in the booth. “I can’t imagine what would have happened if you hadn’t saved me, I would have died…” Skylar fell silent then.
“Another drink, Miss Greystoke?” The Waiter asked as he set it on the table.
“Thank you.” Skylar smiled, she stirred the cinnamon stick around in the liquid. She took in a slow breath, “Eva, is it selfish that I wish you could stay here?” She looked away when she spoke this, she felt bad for wanting Eva to stay. She knew that she wasn’t from this world, but the thought that she had fallen for Eva the way that she had, the feelings that she felt were like no other. She shook her head and giggled. “Don’t listen to me.” She smiled, “It’s just the drink.” She took another drink from it and smiled, it was a strong beverage. Soon the waiter brought out the main meal, duck, fish, chicken, everything looked delicious. Skylar grinned. “Oh, you have to try this.” She set up a kabob of food and dunked it into the pot. She placed her hand on Eva’s thigh again, her hand warm against Eva. She then blushed and sipped from her drink once again. “What do you do for fun, in your world, Eva? I have ice skating that I love to do, when I need to feel like a kid again.” She grinned, “What do you do?”

Eva laughed “Oh yes - everything that is yours will always be better than mine - simply because its yours, and you are just generally better than me, huh?” she laughed. She had finished her wine and was certainly feeling its effects. Her cheeks were bright pink and her world had a fun swirl to it, she was enjoying it a lot. Eva blushed when Skylar’s lips touched her cheek, she smiled and leaned back in the booth.
Eva tilted her head as she questioned about being selfish. “Hm.. no.. I’m not sure what I even want, you know? But some thing keeps telling me to stay positive” she smiled and then shifted in her seat as the waiter put down the main meal. She placed a collection into the pot. “Oo, can I try some?” she questioned – motioning to the apple pie drink. She lifted the glass and inhaled “Oh.. smells so good” she smiled and took a small sip. “Wow – “ she smiled brightly “just like apple pie, huh?” she set the glass back down and then thought for a second.
“Hm.. I bake” she laughed and then took a sip of her wine. “Not too much to do, there are a few places you can go to play table top games, or sometimes I’ll go the library. I’ve only been ice skating once, and I was really young. My dad took me to district 10. My district though, being two, has a lot of upper class events. Like balls, gatherings and what not. However my family was always the one to cater the events, rather than join the events” she chuckled. Her hand fell downward from the table, landing onto of Skylars, which rest on her thigh. Her fingers curled about her hand, finger tips pressing into her palm - massaging gently as they talked… “What about skiing? There’s mountains not far, district 16, what would that be.. here?” she pondered a moment and then chuckled. “We don’t have as much as you guys, it seems.” She tried one of the pieces of duck and then nodded. “That’s really good.”

Skylar chuckled as Eva spoke, she gazed intently into her eyes, a smile stayed on her lips. She was really beginning to feel the effects of the strong drink. “It is just like apple pie.” Skylar giggled lightly. “So much that it’s a dangerous one to drink.” She felt her cheeks, which were rosy red. “I’m so warm and tingly.” She leaned against Eva when she took her hand. Skylar gripped back at Eva’s hand as they ate some of the food. “Skiing….” She let out a laugh. “I’ve been a few times with Ayla, actually. It’s fun, but she’s the expert.” She grinned and chuckled. “I discovered that I actually like snowboarding, it’s like skiing. But you strap yourself onto one board. It’s better for me, I think.” She felt so fuzzy and happy as she munched on some of the duck. “It is excellent, huh?” She giggled.
“You know, I’m terrible at baking.” She spoke as she took a bite of bread. “Really horrible at it.” She giggled. “I’m glad you’re a good baker, maybe I can learn a thing or two from you? You could teach me? I’ll teach you how to fight.” She grinned. “I can definitely teach that, I’ve trained a lot, and I have gotten really good at it.” She looked down to their hands, their fingertips that curled around each other, butterflies swirled around inside of her stomach. Skylar stared into Eva’s eyes for a long moment, she really liked her, more than she even knew. She bit her lip and looked away, blushing. “I can’t believe we’re sitting here.” She grinned, her world was a bit fuzzy from the amount of alcohol she had. She sipped from her drink again as the waiter cleared away their main course. Skylar stared into Eva’s eyes again, a grin on her lips. “We must go ice skating after this, since you’ve only been once.” She giggled. “It’ll be fun, the rink is just down the street from the parking garage.”
The waiter then brought in the chocolate with cheesecake pieces to dip into it, graham crackers, and strawberries. Skylar waited for the chocolate to melt before she carefully dipped a strawberry in the chocolate. She twirled it around and then held it out to Eva. She smiled when Eva took the fruit from her fingertips. Skylar smirked and then giggled again, “You’re delicate.” She spoke, “Like the rose.” She twirled the white rose around in its vase. “Beautiful like the rose too.” She smiled, “That’s why I asked them to set the table like this.”
Her phone began ringing from her pocket. Skylar’s eyes widened. “Sorry.” She fumbled around with the phone and silenced the call, sending the caller straight to voicemail. Only a second later it began ringing again. Skylar took in a slow breath as she left the booth. “Just a moment, okay? I’m really sorry…” She picked up the phone. “Greystoke.” A sense of frustration was in her voice as she stepped away from the booth. Nothing on the other end. No one spoke. “Hello?” She questioned and furrowed her brows as she leaned against the wall. “Hello?” She sighed and hung up the phone. She looked to the number, it was the same number that kept calling her about the case.
Skylar came back to the booth and smiled gently, “I’m sorry, Eva. Work. You know?” She let out a soft laugh. “It’s a really high hitter case, it’s a really big deal…” She lowered her eyes and sighed. “Sorry…” She looked to the chocolate and dipped a piece of cheesecake into the chocolate before she held it out for Eva. She grinned as she took it. Skylar kissed Eva’s cheek again and giggled, she then ate her own strawberry and finished off her drink.

Eva grinned as she talked about snowboarding, that sounded cool. She leaned forward and bit at the strawberry. It was perfectly ripe, plump and juicy, the chocolate was perfect. She chuckled and then twirled a banana into the chocolate, eating it after. “To fight huh” she grinned “Where I come from fighting is more of an expectation than it is a past time, but Olyver was very much into it, as you. I would say I am a pretty good fighter myself. I’ll get to show you that later, when I go to the club right?” she smiled and held a strawberry out for Skylar.
She watched as Skylar took it, she even giggled slightly. She sat back when her phone went off, curious as to why it was so late. “Don’t worry, but don’t take too long. I love strawberries” she laughed and dipped another into the chocolate. She finished her wine and leaned her head outside of the booth – looking to Skylar as she came back. “Weird, no one on the line?” something about it worrisome.
“Oh, that would be fun. I don’t know If I would be too good.” She chuckled and glanced to her wine. “I’m all fuzzy and silly, you might have to hold me up. I’m pretty clumsy you know” she chuckled and brought her hand to Skylar’s thigh. Her fingers massaged gently into her muscle. She was so toned and fit, her fingers almost begged at her. She pulled her hand away as she became overwhelmed by her feelings, maybe even the wine. “Last Strawberry for you?” she held the Strawberry up, her hand held out under it as she covered it thickly with chocolate. She laughed as a bit of chocolate got on Skylar’s cheek. Almost as if a dare – Eva leaned forward and placed her lips on her cheek, a little close to her lips. A bit of chocolate had splashed up onto her skin. She got it off easily with a kiss, chuckling. “Couldn’t waste that, you know” she spoke and placed another kiss on her cheek.
“It’s hard you know. Because I felt a certain way about the previous Skylar, and you can feel her emotions. So it makes this even more fulfilling and exciting” she chuckled and leaned back. “I’m not going to hold back though, I don’t see the point.. I’m happy, and I love this place.. I might… I might stay..” she whispered. “I have.. nothing back at home. My family… I… I’m tired of suffering and fighting. I want to stay here… but..” she let out a sigh. “I have time to decide, right?”

Skylar grinned when Eva said she was clumsy. “I can definitely hold you up, Eva. No problem.” She smiled and ate a banana piece. Butterflies rushed through Skylar’s stomach as Eva’s hand massaged her thigh, she had to think about breathing. She giggled as she felt the warmth of the chocolate on her cheek. Then, Eva kissed the chocolate from her skin, butterflies swarmed, Skylar’s breath caught in her chest, her cheeks flushed a bright pink. “I wouldn’t let you waste it.” Skylar finally spoke, a moment after Eva had spoken. Her brain was firing a million times a second, she could barely think as her heart pounded in her ears. She was nervous. She hadn’t felt like this before.
Skylar placed her hand over Eva’s that rest on her thigh as Eva spoke of her feelings with Olyver. She gave a gentle nod. “Even if you leave in a few days, I don’t want to hold back, Eva.” She smiled, “I really like you, and I know I will never get the chance again.” She smiled happily. The waiter then came with a bill, Skylar paid it in the funny form of cash that they carried in this world in the shape of a plastic card, a credit card. Skylar stood and took Eva’s hand. She pulled herself in close to Eva as they walked through the snowy streets. She leaned against Eva and giggled. “I love the snow, it’s so peaceful.” She spoke as flakes of snow fell into her hair. “Another storm is rolling in.” She grinned. She stopped and took both of Eva’s hands into hers as they stood beneath a streetlight. She stared into Eva’s eyes for a long moment. “Take as long as you want here, Eva. If you want to stay, I can assure you that you will always have me, I’m not going anywhere.” She pulled at Eva’s hand and began leading her down the sidewalk as snow began to accumulate on it. “My skates are in my car.” She smiled, “I’m not letting you get out of this date without skating with me.” She pulled Eva along and into the garage where she ended up next to her car. Skylar paused, she took Eva’s hands into her own again and smiled to her, butterflies swarming around in her stomach once more. She pulled Eva closer to her and kissed her cheek for a long moment before she looked into Eva’s eyes, the crystal blue of her iris was gorgeous in the light of the garage.

As they left the restaurant - Eva let out a sigh of content. Her hand was clasped in Skylar’s. Eva glanced over as Skylar spoke of how she would always be there. She blushed and nodded. “I know” she whispered as they trekked through the snow. Eva blushed as Skylar pulled her close, when they came to rocket. She smiled wildly when Skylar kissed her cheek.
With the slightest of movement - Eva slowly brought Skylar’s back against Rocket’s door. She pushed her body closer, the buckle of her pants pushing against Skylar now. She leaned forward and smiled “You missed” she whispered and brought her lips forward. She could smell the cider on her lips, and feel the warmth of her body radiating from them. Just a millisecond longer and they would touch - they would kiss. In just the moment she pictured herself then. Pushing against Skylar, hands roaming about her hips and waist as they kissed passionately… she could feel it now, she wanted it now…
Just before she could make her daydream true - she was pushed to the ground. Eva landed with a thud, completely unexpected. “Sky - “ she spoke, ready to express great upsetness. But as she looked up - Skylar was not before rocket. Skylar lay on the ground too - a man standing over them.
“I told you to drop it, woman” he shouted and pulled a gun from his waist. Eva teleported in an instant, her arm behind his neck.
“Fuck off man” Eva spoke and grit her teeth. As she choked him - he slammed his elbow into her. Eva let go slightly, groaning as he got her gut. The man pointed his gun to Eva and fired. Though just as he did - she was gone. She teleported next to him and gripped the gun by the barrel. With ease she brought her palm into the side of his elbow, the loud sound of snapping - she broke his elbow. The gun clattered to the ground and the man cried out in pain. He began to fall towards Rocket, but Skylar grabbed him by the collar and threw him away. Just as he landed on the ground - two men approached, guns in both hands.
Eva grit her teeth and teleported quickly, she grabbed Skylar and teleported to the side. Their guns fired all in the same moment, their attempts to shoot them was worthless, as they show up behind them. “Show me what you got, Sky” Eva spoke as she came towards the man directly in front of her.

Skylar stared into Eva’s eyes as she leaned back against Rocket, a smile curved up her lips. All nervousness was gone now, only excitement remained. Her heart pumped loudly, her breathing shuddered slightly as she felt Eva move closer, coming in for the kiss. She shut her eyes and leaned forward slightly as Eva stated that she missed, when she kissed Eva’s cheek. She took in a quick breath as pain rushed through her body, her jaw stung as she fell to the ground. She grit her teeth as she looked over to Eva when she spoke her name. Skylar watched as Eva teleported behind the man that stood over them. Skylar pushed herself to her feet, she watched in awe as Eva broke the man’s elbow and tossed him aside. Skylar stepped forward and threw him to the ground like a sack of potatoes, protecting Rocket from any damage.
Skylar then felt Eva’s arm wrap around her shoulders. Her eyes moved to Eva and in an instant they appeared in another place. She gasped for air, her body felt as though it was collapsing inward.
Show me what you got, Sky. Eva spoke.
Skylar took in a breath and gave a nod as she rushed forward. The man that she rushed toward aimed his gun at her. She grit her teeth as she heard the sound of the gun shot, though as she blinked time stopped. The bullet hung in the air in front of her, frozen in time. Skylar ducked below it as time rushed back into place. She tackled the man to the ground. His pistol clattered against the cement as she slammed him to the ground. Skylar slammed her fist into his face, though he reached up and gripped her around her throat. Skylar’s face turned red as he overturned her and slammed her back into the ground. Skylar fought against him she blocked his punches the best she could until she finally got in a good hit to his jaw. He leaned back, just enough for her to shove him off of her. Skylar stood and jumped back as he lunged at her.
“I warned you!” He snapped as he reached for his pistol. He aimed it at her again. “You’re going to die now!” He snapped as he pulled the trigger.
Once again the world stopped around Skylar. Olyver was helping her. Controlling time. Skylar gripped the pistol and ripped it from his hand. She took the butt of the handle and slammed it against his temple as the world began to spin once again. The man fell to his knees in front of her. He looked up as blood ran down the side of his face. Skylar pressed the muzzle of the gun beneath his jaw, pushing his head back further, forcing him to look into her eyes. “Who is it that sent you?” She asked.
A smirk curved up his lips then, he chuckled. “You don’t know? Do you?” He grinned, “Ainsley.” Skylar looked at him in shock. The man used this moment of shock to then rip the gun from her hands. He moved quickly and in a fluid motion he wrapped an arm around her, pinning her arms to her sides, he then pressed the cold barrel of the pistol against her jaw harshly, the barrel was hot still from the shots that he fired previously, the metal burned against her flesh. Skylar let out a cry as he tightened his grip against her. “One move.” He warned, “I’ll blow your fucking head off.” He spoke into her ear as he took a step back. “You too, move and she dies.” He warned Eva.
Skylar took in quick breaths, her eyes fluttered, a bit of blood trickled from her nose. Suddenly Skylar seemed to melt in his arms, melting into the shadows. Once she pulled from his grasp time stopped again. Skylar gripped the pistol and tossed it across the garage. She punched the man square in the nose before time came back again. She collapsed onto her hands and knees, breathing heavily. Blood dripped from her nose more freely now. She looked to the man as he got to his feet, he wasn’t going to give up.

Eva rushed forward, just before she got the man – who held his pistol up – she twisted and shoved his arm with her elbow. She ducked and came up with force – her fist pounding into his jaw. He flew up into the air and suddenly she was behind the man. As he fell backwards she shoved her knee into his spine. There was a loud pop and the man screamed out. He turned just in time to see that Eva was gone. “What the fuck!” he shouted and gripped his side as he hobbled around – looking for her.
Suddenly Eva was standing before him – swinging a glass beer bottle by one hand. It smashed into his shoulder, slivers of the glass slicing into his neck. Eva kicked forward and sent him flying back. She turned just as the other guy shot towards Skylar. She smiled as she saw she ducked with blinding speed – she was manipulating time, or maybe Olyver was. She grit her teeth when the guy threatened her – just about to teleport when suddenly Skylar melded into the shadows. Eva let out a laugh “hah!” she ran forward just as Skylar punching him harshly – sending him to the ground.
She wrapped her arms around Skylar, helping her up. “Hey – just breath” she spoke. Eva turned her head as the guy got up, bounding towards them. Eva grit her teeth and held her hand up. The guy stopped before her – puzzled on what she was doing. Eva lunged forward and gripped the guys shirt.
Just then the entire world melted away. They stood on a large rock that floated in space. The blood coming from Skylar’s nose pulled from her nose and lifted into the air, forming round droplets that seem to float away.. Eva lifted the guy into the air by his shirt. Around them was the two other men – knocked out on the ground. Eva teleported several times – practically phasing across the huge rock. She held the man over the edge of the rock.
He gripped at her arm, but here she was insanely strong. He panicked – his eyes looking over the edge. “Wh – what the fuck” he cried out and shook his head.
“What does Ainsley want?!” Eva shouted.
“T-to- To drop the case” he cried out.
“Isn’t he in Jail?” she questioned, remembering that Skylar had mentioned it.
“Blane Trales, he is th- the vp” he studdered, shaking his head. “Please stop.” He cried.
“You tell Blane Trales… you tell your fuck face Ainsley that he is going to have to do a lot better than your shit ass” she spoke and then dropped him. The man fell through the darkness and then through a round portal. He was sent back to his planet – where he landed in a pile of snow in the middle of town…
Eva turned back to Skylar and stepped over to her. “Figured I might scare the piss out of him. Let him go back and try and explain this to his boss” she chuckled. “This is.. the Void. The in between of all worlds. Where-“
“Where the Outsider resides” he suddenly appeared, his arms crossed as he looked to the two. He smiled weakly and nodded. “It seems you are filling your role well… Eva” he then looked to Skylar and tilted his head. He was floating slightly, his dead black eyes looking to her. “Things are growing off balance… a decision will need to be made soon. Just know that until you return… your world remains frozen… do not forget that you are still responsible…” he spoke softly and then appeared off in the distance. “You cannot avoid the reaper forever.. Skylar…” he spoke and then disappeared.
Suddenly the void disappeared and they stood in the parking garage. “Skylar… we need to go. I’m sure someone heard those shots” she spoke and nodded to Rocket.

Skylar leaned heavily against Eva, gasping as the man came toward them. She shut her eyes tightly and in the next instant she found herself standing in the strange world of the void. She watched as the droplets of her blood floated off into the air, weightless here. She then stared in disbelief as Eva teleported around, finally stopping to hold the man over the edge of the rock. She took a step forward when Eva dropped the man, she watched as he disappeared into the darkness below. Skylar stared at Eva as she stepped over, her jaw was loose, her body trembled, her eyes fluttered slightly. Then when the Outsider spoke her eyes shot to him. Eva spoke of this man, but she never imagined him to be so threatening in appearance. He was gaunt, and thin. He looked terrible. When the Outsider spoke of the other world that was frozen in time Skylar looked to Eva, worry in her eyes. Then, when he spoke of the Reaper, how she couldn’t avoid it. Skylar’s eyes looked to him, fear struck her, the dreams…weren’t dreams at all.
Suddenly they were standing back in the real world. Eva’s voice was muffled though it caught Skylar’s attention. She gave a nod and rushed to her car, she unlocked it and leaned over, pushing the passenger door open before she started the car and drove off quickly. Sirens sounded as police came toward the scene. Skylar gripped the steering wheel tightly, tears welled in her eyes. Things were happening so quickly it was hard for her to comprehend, to grasp…
“Eva….” She finally whispered after driving in silence for around ten minutes. “Eva, what did he mean?” She questioned. “I can only avoid the Reaper for so long? What does he mean by that?” Her voice quivered. “I’m not dead.” She shook her head, her knuckles were white as her hands gripped tighter on the wheel. “I’m here…and…you’re here…we’re both alive and breathing…” She rambled on. A few tears escaped her eyes and rolled down her cheeks, dripping to her scarf around her neck. She brushed blood away from her nose, her head ached, her side hurt as well. In the same place that she remembered seeing the injury on Olyver. Skylar pulled into the driveway of her home, it was dark as could be. The outside sensor light popped on as they pulled up to the side of the home. “Please…Eva…you have to help me.” She looked to Eva, she was absolutely terrified. “I don’t know what to do…” She whispered. Her eyes fluttered then. Her hand on the steering wheel gripped tightly for a moment before she gasped.
“Eva.” Olyver spoke, her voice collected. “I’m sorry for this.” She reached her hand out, it brushed against Eva’s cheek. “Come on.” She pushed out of the car and headed inside. Olyver took a step forward, she reached out and gripped onto the scythe as the Reaper swung it at her. “You promised….to protect her….” Olyver spoke through her teeth, “Help me Eva.” She shoved the Reaper back before she launched forward and ripped his scythe from his hands. She swung at him before the scythe burst into ashes in her hands.
“Your time is up, Skylar.” He spoke as he lunged forward.
Olyver dodged him and kicked him in his back, sending him flying into the wall, which he flew through like a shadow before he appeared behind Skylar. She spun around and kicked him in the side, knocking him back again. “I’m not going to let you take her!” She snapped. He lunged forward again, Olyver grabbed his bony wrist and flipped him onto the ground hard. The Reaper snarled and then lunged toward Eva. “Eva!!” Olyver cried as she reached forward. The Reaper spun then, his scythe appeared and he swung it in an upward motion. Time seemed to slow as the blade pierced through Olyver’s abdomen, lifting her upward into the air. The reaper pulled her in closer and reached his bony hand into her chest.
Skylar’s eyes widened as she gasped, her jaw went slack as the Reaper pulled the soul from her body. His scythe disappeared and he gripped the now lifeless limp body with his other hand. He stared to the soul a moment and chuckled. “You’ve made your choice.” He spoke before he let out a chuckle. He then looked to the body that dangled in his hands, “Hm.” He hummed as he dropped Skylar’s body into a heap on the floor. He then looked to Eva and grinned, a wicked grin. “Any last goodbyes?” He asked before he shook his hand, the spirit appeared before her, almost as if she was flesh and blood, it was Skylar Olyver.
“I’m sorry, Eva.” She whispered softly. Olyver stepped forward, she pulled Eva into a tight embrace. “Don’t give up.” She whispered before she pulled back, tears rolled down her cheeks. “I’m still here, I’ll always be here.” She then kissed Eva on the lips for a moment before her body melted to ashes.
The reaper lifted Skylar up and a red glow surrounded her, he grinned as Skylar’s eyes opened wide, she gasped for air, blood trickled from her nose and mouth. He placed his hand against her forehead before a burst of energy came from his body and he disappeared. Skylar fell to the floor, tears rushed down her cheeks as she cried softly, terrified. Though, she was completely unharmed. Olyver had decided to give her soul up, for the chance that Greystoke and Eva could live on. Olyver noticed the connection between the two and couldn’t bear to allow it to be taken away. Skylar trembled as she fought to breathe, she let out soft cries as she fought to gain control over her body.

“I’m… I’m not too sure. The Outsider always speaks in riddles.. it always takes time .. for me to get it…” she rubbed her arms, her mind buzzing with thoughts. None of them lead down a happy road. A reaper… after Skylar? It had to be.. but .. he wasn’t – she didn’t… it didn’t make sense. What did he mean?
Eva looked to Skylar… no to Olyver puzzled. “Olyver… wait… what’s.. going on?” she whispered. But then she climbed from the car and stepped inside. As she stepped forward she ran into something. An invisible wall. Like glass. She tapped on it and it rung in the air. “Not again” she whispered and shook her head. She slammed her fists against the glass as Skylar called out to her. Help me. Eva’s eyes swelled with tears as the reaper rushed forward.
“No!” She shook her head when she saw the Reaper turn away – tricking her. She fell through the glass right when the scythe pierced through Skylar. She had fallen to her knees, staring up. It was terrible. This must have been what it looked like in the first time line. When Eva was killed by the Reaper… when everything went wrong. It seemed when things went badly the reaper was always involved.
“Skylar!!!!!” She cried and scrambled to her feet, moving to the bloodied body on the ground. Eva scrambled to her feet as the reaper spoke to her. Any last goodbyes… Eva stood – tears falling from her eyes in a rush. Skylar Olyver appeared. In her Warden uniform, floating before her.
“After everything we’ve done” Eva whispered, her voice breaking and trembling. “Everything to save you and.. I lose you now” she whispered and stepped forward. She placed her hand on her cheek and kissed her sweetly. “I… will never forget you” she shook her head as ashes filled her finger tips. She fell to her knees in that moment and placed her hands on the ground – was… it all over now? Was she alone?
Eva turned her head to the collapsed body, She crawled over and held her head up. She moved so that Skylar’s head was on her lap. The blood that pooled on the ground began to recede, some how reversing.. going back into the limp body before her.. “Skylar” she whispered. A bit of hope filled in her stomach.. but she knew. Skylar Olyver of her world, her timeline, she was gone. Stolen away. Would… she ever see her again? Who would become Remi’s reaper? No.. Remi would be here right now if all was gone.
She looked to Greystoke and brushed a strand of hair out of her face. “Just.. breath… Skylar.. it’s… all over now” she whispered. A few tear drops fell from Eva’s chin, landing on Skylar’s forehead. “Reapers… have their target. If.. they don’t get their target then the next soul suffers, in dire need to be released… When you died that night I appeared.. you were supposed to stay dead. But.. but I stopped that. I saved you, which changed the course of fate. But the reaper could not change his target. Two souls in one body… disrupting the balance.. that is what the Outsider meant… A choice was made. Olyver gave her life so you could continue…” she huffed back a sudden urge to cry. She fought with her self until finally she gave in. Her body shook, her chest heaving – her eyes squeezed as they filled to the brim, tears flowing. “I..” she shook her head. Instead.. she just cried…

Skylar took in shaken breaths as she looked up to Eva. Her body shook as she took in each breath. She cried as Eva spoke. “I’m so sorry…Eva…I’m sorry…” She whimpered. Though, eventually she moved and hugged herself to Eva, the two cried for what felt like ages. Skylar eventually sniffled and helped Eva to her feet. She led her to the couch before she built up a fire in the fireplace, her body quivered. She felt different. She kept replaying what the Outsider said. How Eva’s world was still frozen. What happened to it now, now that Olyver was gone? She shouldn’t have given her life for Skylar….was that a mistake? That wasn’t supposed to happen. She was supposed to be dead. None of this should have ever happened. It was her fault that Skylar Olyver was dead…or was this the plan of the Gods all along?
Skylar took in a slow breath as she poked at the wood in the fireplace, she had it going quite well now. She stood slowly and moved to Eva, she took both of Eva’s hands into hers and helped her stand. Skylar searched her eyes for a long moment, the events of the night playing through her mind like a movie stuck on repeat. “Eva…” Skylar spoke softly as she stared into Eva’s eyes. The crystal blue of her eyes had a beautiful emerald green ring around the pupil now. She placed her hand on Eva’s cheek for a moment and took in a deep breath before she kissed her forehead. “Come with me.” She spoke softly. She grasped Eva’s hand and led her up the stairs of the home. She pulled the blanket back on her bed and then climbed under the blankets. “I don’t want either of us to be alone.” She whispered. Skylar waited for Eva to lay in the bed, she turned and pressed her forehead against Eva’s shoulder. Her body shuddered. All she could think of was how remorseful she was, Eva had lost Olyver…and it was her fault.
Skylar eventually fell asleep, after hours of laying next to Eva, her fingers held onto Eva’s arm, wrapped in the material of her long sleeve shirt. Though, when she fell asleep, she wasn’t given any rest.
“Skylar.” Olyver spoke. Skylar spun around in the darkness of the spirit world, she gasped for air. Her two toned eyes finally fell upon Olyver whom stepped forward from the darkness. She wore her warden uniform, a gentle smile on her lips. “Do not feel regret for something that was not in your control.” She spoke as she stood before her. “I have gifted you with a piece of my soul, I will forever be with you, and if you need me at all, call upon me and I will be there to guide you.” She grinned as she looked into Greystoke’s eyes, seeing the change in color from her soul melding into Greystoke’s body. “The power, my power, is now yours, you may do with it as you choose. All that I ask, is that you do as you promised Eva. You must be there for her. She needs you now more than ever, Skylar.” She then disappeared into a cloud of ashes.
Skylar spun around, as the world collapsed around her. She opened her eyes with a small gasp. Her fingers gripped around Eva’s arm, her body was close to Eva. She took in a breath as she moved her eyes up to Eva’s face, she followed the lines of Eva’s body before she relaxed and slipped back into a deep slumber. She slept heavily for the next hours until the sun began to rise over the horizon, the sun peeked into the bedroom, a cold had set through the house as the fire died away. Skylar shivered as she burrowed into the blankets as she always did in the morning, though, in this burrowing she snuggled closer to Eva in her sleep.
