What happened the world. No one knew where it came from. How it occurred. Just that one day...the birds were singing, the sun was high, the people crammed into the subways, the dogs barked in the alleys. And then... nothing. The moment before it happened...the world grew silent. Everyone that stood out - looked to the sky. People traveled from their homes and onto their yards. A head pointed upward, hand saluting over their brow to block the sun. Watching this tiny speck come closer. And Closer. The northern states scrambled - rushing to their basements. Their bunkers. Their - whatever they could. As the speck grew bigger... the lights flickered. The TV news Broadcast, that covered every channel, every radio - suddenly shut off. No car would start.
There stood a man - holding something in his hand. Round. As the speck grew even bigger ... the needle in the middle began to spin. The Polars were lost, electricity fizzled. Then - a huge sound. Like nothing the ears could handle. Everyone hit the ground, falling to their knees as blood came from their ears. They stared up to their doom. Bigger. Bigger. It was so big now, bigger than the moon. Until finally it was over. A wave of power emit from the land - shooting forward. A Meteor crashed upon the Northern Poles. The entire planet - ripped. A Huge crack formed in the earth, causing huge waves to grow higher and higher, until every bay was demolished. The power wave ripped entire homes from the ground and threw them miles away. Trees ripped, and the ones that survived - were just a bare naked stump, limbs ripped from its thick flesh.
Mountain sides collapsed, the very caps tumbling down until it stormed the hillsides. Earthquakes trembled from every tectonic edge. Plates crammed over each other - sifting new mountains. The entire continents seem scrambled. Either broken into chunks, or shoved into each other. Chaos ensued. Every nuclear power plant in the world - explode with a furious rage. Followed by volcanoes - that somehow peaked in the center of cities. The world as it was known - completely destroyed. With a huge molten rock that had formed with it, like a terrible planet with a huge cancer...
Moments before the Collapse - thousands of people were ushered in to Underground Nuclear Bases. Those living close to sea level - perished. While some of these bases were destroyed in the chaos - some survived....Some of the bases stepped outside once the hell seem to die down. Only to die a slow and terrible death. Released from this Cancer was a kind of fume, something, that petrified the lungs. Add that with the nuclear fall out and volcanic ash... it was a deathwish to leave.
***
Two crystal blue eyes shot open. A rounded glass door opened with the release of a bit of smokey vapor. "Why have you woken me?" her voice was groggy, even crackling slightly. She slowly reached her hand forward and held it open. Then... a small red bag was placed onto her palm. She brought it forward then and bit it. Within seconds - the bag was empty. Within seconds her skin transitioned from a translucent color to a gentle bronze. Her bald wrinkled head - became smooth, and jet black piercing hair swiftly emerge from it, growing to a delicate length that stopped mid back.
Her bones became dense, defined toned muscles growing about them. Then she was whole once more. She slowly stepped forward, her legs fighting against her. They had been stiff for far too long.
"Your Highness..." The man bowed. "It is time that we call upon you..."
"Tell me what has happened..." She spoke with a luxurious accent, thick with olden tones.
"It has been roughly 200 years. Just 50 years after you were put to rest - the planet was hit by a meteor. All that we knew... lost. Most of the Coven made it to the Catacombs, where we have survived, barely. Most of us went into stasis, with only a few to watch over. For blood was scarce... We bred humans... drained them, did what we had to..." He spoke clearly. "I am Albert Leone the Sixteenth..."
"The Sixteenth hm...?" She spoke. "What happened to my Duke?" she clicked her tongue to the roof of her mouth. She walked the halls until she came upon a room. She opened a wardrobe and pulled out clothing - as she was nude. She pulled on leather black pants, old in nature, tall boots, a shining black vest, with a long hooded jacket upon her shoulders. "Hm... this is new" she fixed herself in the clothing.
"Many died... those that were not quite strong enough to bare the time length... but there are plenty remaining..." Albert spoke.
"I see.. Albert... or Bert?" she questioned and then waved her hand. "So what now?" she sighed deeply, turning to him, her hands crossed over her belt.
"The humans that survived the chaos have announced that it is save to emerge, and so they are. We... must rebuild" he spoke and nodded.
"And the other Covens?" she questioned, raising a brow.
"We... lost all contact with the outside. I can only assume they survived as well..." he nodded.
"Here I thought I would wake when the wars ended... yet, I am sure we will fight over this new land...full of... opportunity..." she scoffed and grinned. "Very well, wake the rest. We will emerge after we convene."

The day the world ended. It had a nice ring to it, that’s what those of the underground bunkers called it. Those that didn’t make it. Well. They turned to ash. Or suffocated. At least...most did…
A young girl looked up at the skies as the asteroid grew larger and larger. She wore old tattered clothing and held an old teddy bear that one of the eyes had fallen from its socket. Her feet were wrapped in cloths to keep the cold pavement from giving her frostbite. She glanced around to everyone who ran. No one paid her any attention. She was pushed down by a man in a suit that rushed passed her, her teddy bear flew into the busy streets. “No!” The little girl cried out as she rushed forward. As she lunged toward the busy roadway someone grasped their arms around her. She screamed as she fought against the tight hold. But her small body couldn’t match that of the strong arms around her. She kicked and screamed as the man carried her down the busy sidewalk. To where he was going, she’d never know. It wasn’t until everyone fell to their knees that that little girl stood before the man. He stared into her eyes with fear in his own. She looked around with emerald green eyes to the world around her as ashes began to fall from the skies. The world began to tremble…
She was the only one standing. As others clutched their chests fighting to breathe, she walked through the crowds. When the huge blast wave hit the world from the impact of the asteroid darkness and silence followed….
**
The asteroid carried something with it to the planet. Something that humans had never seen before. The young girl woke to the destruction and ran from one volcanic eruption after another. She was alone in the world. Though, stronger, faster. She could hear things that before she never would have heard. Her name was Rhys. Most humans would have died if anything from old age. Buy Rhys? No she looked to be 25 or so. She stood on a trail with a bow tossed over her shoulder. She wore old boots that the tongue flopped forward on, they were a little big for her, but she couldn’t complain. Her jeans were tattered and torn, she wore a black jacket that looked a few sizes too big as well, but again, she’d take what she could get. Rhys brought her fingers up to her lips and let out a shrill whistle as she stood at an overlook to one of the old cities. The steel bars reached up into the skies, a sad reminder of what the world was once before.
The familiar sound of paw pads along the dirt filled her ears and she turned as a beautiful grey wolf approached. “There you are.” She smiled, “I was beginning to wonder if you’d left me, Thor.” She’d taken a liking to old nordic history books that she’d found. Rhys had found Thor just a few years ago as a young pup abandoned in a storm. Rhys rubbed the wolf’s head and smiled as she walked down the tail a ways further. Within the mountains Rhys had found a home. It was a small cabin that was put together before the end. It was built by hand and must have cost a fortune. It was a long shot from what she remembered as a homeless child of the streets. She’d never had a roof over her head until after everyone died. She pushed up her goggles that she wore upon her head and sighed as she glanced out over the valley. “Think it’s going to snow tonight friend?” She rubbed her arms from the chill in the air. “It’s about that time of year, isn’t it?” She smirked as she walked inside. Rhys walked over to the fireplace and sparked a fire...though she didn’t spark a fire in the normal human way...she’d snapped her fingers. It was something she’d gained from the explosion. She had been different since then. Everything about her was different. The things she could do. If the world wasn’t destroyed she knew she would have ended up in a lab as a specimen...her body had soaked up the toxic gases and her chemical makeup had been changed. She could do things that only books spoke of.
Rhys walked into the kitchen and opened up the large pantry, she shifted her weight a bit as she looked to the stacks upon stacks of food. “What shall we have tonight, Thor?” She looked to the wolf whom whined. She chuckled again and ruffled his hair before she nodded. “Alright, alright, fresh kill it is.” She grinned. “Off we go? The fire will be fine.” She walked quickly to the door and once she was outside she walked directly into the woods. Rhys crouched and moved silently with her wolf behind her. She weaved through the trees like a lion hunting its prey. When she found a deer she drew her bow and in one swift motion she released the arrow. The hit was directly to the heart. Rhys sprang forward at a speed that normal humans would never function. She stabbed into the creature to put it out of its misery and then she sat back with a laugh. “Another easy dinner, eh Thor?” She smiled as she looked to the wolf whom howled happily.
Rhys grabbed the hoof of the deer and began dragging it back through the forest. Though something was off. She glanced around and paused. Her brows pulled together. In the next moment pain struck her side. She let out a gasp as she fell to her knees. Thor growled and circled around her looking into the trees as Rhys pulled a dart from her side. Her vision blurred and doubled. “Other...people...” She looked at the feathery red end of the dart. She hadn’t seen another human in nearly 200 years. She’d found bodies at the openings to bunkers. She’d tried to get them to let her in through the air locks. No such luck. No one wanted her. She was diseased as far as the humans were concerned.
Rhys stood and pulled her knife, she staggered into the arms of someone and sliced forward. “Ah shit!” She heard a man’s voice cry out. “She’s still awake! Shoot her again!” His accent was something different. Something she didn’t recognize. She felt another stab to her calf as she slammed her elbow into the chest of the man. Rhys fought against her attacker and lunged forward as another dart stuck into her back. It took four darts to bring her down, only one for her wolf to fall. Rhys stumbled forward into the arms of the man she’d cut, her knife stabbed into the ground.
Her eyes blinked slowly as her muscles loosened. “Thor...” She breathed as she tried to reach out toward the wolf.
“How the hell is she still awake?” A man stood before her with icy blue eyes. He cupped her jaw. “You ought to have good blood in you, hm?” He smirked, two pointed canines showed.
Rhys struggled against the man that held her, her legs felt like jello. She pushed against him, “No...” She breathed as the world faded from existence.
It was a few hours later that she’d awakened. She sat up quickly to find that she’d been stripped of her gear. She sat in her blue tank top and jeans. Her eyes looked around the room quickly. Concrete walls. Was she in a bunker? She stood as she looked to the door, the handle jiggled as the bolt was slid from its place. Her pulse pounded within her ears as she thought of the muffled words that man had spoken before she fell unconscious. And like a bad nightmare the man walked into the room, a smirk still on his lips. Rhys rushed forward and slammed her fist into the side of his head. She toppled him to the ground and rushed toward the door as it slammed shut. She turned to look at the man as he rubbed his cheek, an irritated look in his eyes. “I’ll just get our queen to sort this out then.” He growled as he pulled a dart gun and shot off a few rounds. Rhys gripped the darts as she stumbled back, her back pressed against the wall as she slid to the floor in a heap.
When Rhys woke again she pulled at metal cuffs that held her into a hard chair. She groaned as she pulled against it and the metal bent slightly to her strength. She grit her teeth as she took in quick breaths. The only thought on her mind was to get out and to find Thor...

"Good morning...everyone" She stood then in the center of a large room, full of chairs. In a way it resembled the hall of a cathedral, but rather it was dimly lit. Black designs covered the what would be windows, but in reality they were fake. A huge chandelier hung from the ceiling and lit the room, though still dim in design. "It is nice..." she took a deep breath through her nose and released it. "To be back again..." she smiled.
"Many of you have been asleep for quite some time... And some...did not make it..." she lowered her hands then and clasped them infront of her. There was at least a hundred people. A small fraction of what was once - a huge and powerful coven. "The world as we know it has changed. For the better? For the worse? I cannot say. I can say, however, that we are low on blood. So, it is time to open the seal and emerge from this dark pit... Search for the humans. But..." she held up a hand. "We must do this the smart way, hm?" she smiled then. "We must observe our environment. No ravaging, no destroying. We stay silent" she snapped a hand forward. "Skilled. Controlled... You take what you need, swipe the memory, and be onward. We do not want to alert our enemies, or create new ones. The world is fragile... panicked, worried, scared. This is opportunity" she smirked then.
"We will blend in. We can make this place a home, invite them into our arms. Protect them. Fend for them. Feed from then..." the people began to perk up. "So, as you know it. Keep to the shadows..." she waved her hands then. The people began to file out of the room, headed to the grand stairway that led upward.
"Queen Lana" One of them called, rushing upward. "We scouted, as you commanded. The world - it is..." he paused. "Beautiful. But... we have come across beasts...terrifying beasts... and.. one human. She is different though, I've never seen someone like this. It took 4 tranquilizers to take her down, she is strong...fast... but not a vampire."
"Not a vampire, you say?" Lana lifted a brow. "Take me to her..."
They strolled down a hallway, passing a barred room - where a wolf lay sleeping. "A wolf?" she questioned.
"The girl's companion..." he replied. "Shall we kill it?"
"No... feed it, keep it..happy" she trailed onward, leaving him behind. She opened the heavy door, and it shut behind her with a thud. Lena stared to the woman for a moment. It appeared she just woke... There was a table in the room, several tools... and a pack of tranquilizers...
"Relax..." Lena spoke and stepped forward. She leaned forward, but not too close, and took in a long breath into her nose. Then slowly out. It was then that a low grumble came from her throat, then a grin. "Human..." she whispered. "but... different..." she reached forward then - with a sharp nail she quickly nicked the woman's arm. A droplet of blood gathered on her finger tip... she brought it to her lips and she placed it upon her tongue.
Suddenly Lena stumbled back, she gripped the table... "The meteor..." she whispered. "You saw it..." she gathered herself... "Just a...child..." she placed a hand upon her chest.
There was a beating on the door. "Your Highness, are you okay?"
"I am fine, leave me be..." she called out in a calm and royal voice.
"You..." she pointed a finger to her. Suddenly - from her finger tip a flame appeared. She gasped and then quickly shook her hand, the flame snuffing away. This blood... she could feel the power in her. Though it was faint, weak. Not enough blood to sustain anything more...
"What... is your name, hm?" she questioned.

As the door opened Rhys looked up, her brows tucked together. Her breathing was quick as she stared to the woman that stepped into the room. She stopped pulling against the shackles though. As the woman leaned forward Rhys pushed herself back into the chair, she gripped onto the arms of the chair. “Relax?” She snapped. The grumble made her even more uncomfortable, the grin was just the icing on the cake. Rhys jerked as the woman pricked her skin. “What the hell are you?!” She pulled against the shackles and the metal groaned from her strength. Though as the woman tasted her blood and stumbled back Rhys fell silent. She pressed her lips together and stared at the woman as she spoke of the meteor. She bit her lip slightly, she hadn’t planned on telling anyone that she was around during that time. How did this woman know? Was it her blood? It had to be.
Rhys winced slightly as the flame appeared from the tip of the woman’s finger. One of her powers. Though she watched as it fizzled and went out. She took in a breath, “Why does it matter?” She shot back, “You’re just going to kill me. That’s what I’ve gathered from this situation.” She scoffed slightly. “Go ahead, I’ve been around long enough.” She looked away, “I did see the meteor. I was 6 when it happened.” She took in a breath as she stressed against the shackles again. Eventually the metal would become weak from her pulling against it. At least, that was her hope.
“I was alone on the streets then and I’m still alone now, so it isn’t much different is it?” She looked back to the woman. “What are you a fucking vampire?” She questioned and a laugh came over her lips. “Like in the books? Should I have eaten garlic for dinner to scare you away?” She tugged at the shackles again. “Or perhaps I should have carried around a wooden stake to stop your friends from kidnapping me.” She gripped onto the arms of the chair which began to glow from the heat of her hands. Though, luckily enough for the vampires they had chosen a metal strong enough to withstand her, for now. She grit her teeth and pushed her head back against the chair with a heavy sigh. “I might as well play along in your games.” She spoke as her emerald eyes fell upon the queen. “You’re the queen after all. So, my name is Rhys. Your highness.” She glanced around the room. “Do you at least offer water or a hot meal to your guests?” She asked with a raised brow. “Fatten them up before you suck them dry?” She wasn’t in the position to be making so many snide remarks, but that didn’t seem to stop Rhys. She’d grown up alone. She’d missed out on the human connection part of life that most were given whether they liked it or not. So her communication wasn’t quite the same as others. Her fears didn’t line up with other humans either. Rhys pulled against the shackles again and let out a groan out of frustration. “Where is Thor? My wolf. Where is he?” She demanded.

Lena stepped back as the woman just seem to burst. A spitfire, for sure. Though, she was actually quite funny. Brave... and stupid. She clasped her hands before her and watch as the woman fought against the shackles. She watched as the shackles turned hot red, but refused to break. "Well..." she grinned. "I love Garlic, actually. Oooh, especially on bread..." she smiled then and turned. She paused then and suddenly - she was surrounded in a purple darkness. She moved swiftly, inches from her face. Then suddenly she disappeared into a huge blast of purple smoke. The room became extremely dark, flecks of purple sparkled in the air, catching the slight light that came thru the tiny window of the door. She was gone...
Her voice then rang in the room, echoing off the walls. "A wooden stake, hm?" there was a cackling laugh. "A tooth pick for my fangs..." Slowly then the door creaked open. The darkness in the room faded away... through the door - Thor stepped inward. Behind her was Lena. "Go on" Lena waved her hand. The Wolf listened to her, as if in a way... she commanded him. While she was not Thor's master... she did have influence over him. "The books? Got it all wrong..." she smiled and closed the door.
"Sit..." she waved her hand at the Wolf, who then sat. Though the Wolf stared to Rhys and whimpered.
"He is not harmed... fed well..." Lana sat down on the small table then, crossing her legs as she looked to Rhys. "Fatten you up hm? Do I look like the Witch from Hansel and Gretel?" she paused. "Wait... I bet you dont know that story..." she chuckled then and waved her hand. "It's okay... Fun fact" she lifted a finger, smiling then. "Hansel and Gretel was a old German Fairy Tale, though, coined initially by a famous Opera by Engelbert Humperdinck. An old friend of mine, actually, then later adapted into a book by the Grimm Brothers, funny two they are. Then of course that guy hmm.. Disney, yes, Walt Disney. Took all of these horrible stories and made them all kid friendly, very cute really. Especially the mermaid that sings, realistic, truly..." she stood then, rubbing her hands together.
"Did you not think, maybe for a minute, we could be friends, no?" she lifted her hands. "The world of humans is about to unravel. And with it comes all of the horrors that follow it. Think of it... 2 of my men...tranquilized you, and now... you are here. Well, if the humans got ahold of you, oh dear. The things they'd do" she held up to hands, motioning a slicing movement with her forefingers. "Slice you and dice you, dying to know - oh whatever you are. Some kind of malformed human... oh they would just...eat you up" she flashed a grin at her.
"But... you know that world out there... you know it better than anyone. The dangers. The horrors..." she tilted her head back. "This...makes you valuable..." she nodded to the Wolf then. Thor stepped forward and rubbed his head against her shins. "So no...I'm not going to suck your blood, or kill you...I mean, unless you make me, of course..." she shrugged. "You could sit here and rot otherwise. Those shackles - top of the line. Diamond cuffs, enough to hold a terrifying beast of the old, I'm sure you've read - of the Lycans, Werewolf so the humans like to call them. El chupacabra, whatever." she threw up her hands. "I'll... let you think on it. When you are read to hear me out.. Rhys... just uh... Yell real loud, okay?" she questioned and then waved to the Wolf, who reluctantly followed behind her...
As she left the room - the guard looked to her. "So do we feed her?" he questioned.
"Hmm...." she thought for a moment. "Yes, but make sure you put it on a long stick, and don't bring the keys inside with you..." she reached forward then and tapped the keys hanging on his belt.
"Thor, is it?" She looked to the wolf. "A beautiful name..." she opened the large barred door to a cell cage. "Go on" she nodded. Slowly the Wolf entered and then curled up in the center of the room, whimpering softly...
It was then that the Queen left, slipping up to her new office, where she looked over the Artifacts left by the 15 other Dukes who died in waiting...

Rhys tugged against the shackles more when the purple haze filled the room. Her breathing quickened and her eyes widened slightly. Fear. Though when her eyes fell upon Thor she looked to the queen who spoke. Seemingly walking circles around her, commanding her companion so easily. She spoke of things that Rhys never knew, the stories of old. She’d heard of Disney...but the others. She stared to the queen as she spoke. Rhys’ emerald eyes locked on the woman as she spoke of being friends. “You’ve locked me in a chair...that is as far away from friends as I could imagine. Isn’t it?” She snapped. Though her expression softened as the vampire spoke of the humans. What humans would do to her. She bit her lip and looked away. She’d walked through enough labs in the cities to know the horrors that humans did to things. The tests. She would be nothing more than a lab rat to them. When Thor rubbed against her shins she took in a shaken breath. “Thor...” She breathed.
She pulled against the shackles as the queen walked from the room with Thor. “Yell loudly...” She scoffed and pressed her head against the back of the chair. She closed her eyes a moment, her head was throbbing at this point, she hadn’t eaten since breakfast that morning. Stupid decision now that she was looking back upon it. Rhys thought over everything that the woman said. At least the vampire saw her as valuable...her subordinates only seemed to want to drink from her to have a meal. She began to wonder how the vampires had survived all these years. Did they have a storage of blood? A storage of humans? Her mind raced with questions that she couldn’t come up with the answers to. Though her thoughts were broken as the door opened. It had been nearly an hour since the queen left her side. “Back for more?” Rhys scoffed without even looking to the door. Though the scent of fresh food filled her nostrils and her eyes moved to the man that stepped through the door.
He stood with a plate made up like a platter that held meat and mashed potatoes, fresh green beans. “I’ve brought you dinner.” He spoke as he set the plate down on the table. He set a glass of what looked like water down next to it.
Rhys looked over the man, her eyes looked over his clothing and to his icy eyes. All of the vampires seemed to have icy blue eyes. “That’s great, how am I supposed to eat it?” She glared at him.
He gave a chuckle, “You really are a firecracker aren’t you?” He raised a brow as he pulled the table closer to her. “The queen seems to have taken an interest.” He shrugged, “I can’t say I blame her.” He smirked then.
Rhys watched him as he looked to her, she could feel her pulse beating in her temples. The look in his eyes, she felt like pray through the scope of a rifle. She swallowed and took in a breath. “So the food?” She asked to break the silence.
“Yes, food.” He turned his attention to the plate a moment. He paused and looked back to her as he leaned in close, closer than what he should have been. “You are the food now, doll.” He grinned.
Rhys spat in his face and narrowed her brows as she brought her leg up between his harshly. The vampire buckled back and fell to his knees groaning. He snarled as he stood up swiftly and gripped her tightly. Rhys yelped as the vampire bit into her neck. She let out a scream as the feeling of her blood leaving her body felt like ice running through her veins. She tried to pull away but the shackles and the chair prevented her.

Lena perked up from a book - chicken scratch hand writing was with in it. The Journal of the most recent Duke. She disappeared in an instant, purple smoke lingering around the plush desk chair. The man - clutched onto her neck, his fangs deep in her neck, sucking wildly. Blood was dripping down his chin and covering his chest now, staining his clothing. Though suddenly he stopped - a groan came from his gut. Lena appeared next - her hand was inside his body, fingers gripping his spine. She yanked it swiftly, ripping a giant hole in his back and yanking the bones from his body.
He fell limp to the ground, blood filling the room. She tossed the spine to the ground and then reached over to the table. She picked up a perfectly white handkerchief and wiped her hand off on it. She cleared her throat then and pulled a set of keys from her pocket. She unlocked the shackles about her hands and feet... "Come on" she caught her as Rhys's body fell forward, weak from the blood loss. She lifted her easily, a strength far beyond a human, and then stepped out of the room. "Open the wolf gate..." she commanded one of the men.
He paused for a moment. "Fucking do it or I'll rip your god damn heart out and make you eat it" she spat. Slowly he opened it and she clicked her tongue. Thor followed behind her heels as she lead them up to her office. The door shut behind her and she slowly set the woman down on the plush red couch. Thor sat before the couch and looked to Lena... "Go on.." she waved at him. The Wolf then jumped up onto the couch and laid his head on her thigh, as Rhys lay on her side...
Lena stepped over to a table and poured a glass of whiskey... she took a sip and stared to the woman for a long long moment. Then she sighed and sat down at her desk, flipping the page of the book...Moments later the door opened, and someone brought in the plate of food - originally for Rhys. "Set it down there" she pointed. Thor lifted his head and growled softly... then the man stepped away and out.
She stood up finally and slapped the book down. "God damn idiots" she muttered and then lifted the glass to her lips, finishing it off. She paced briefly and then paused... she looked to a painting. A woman, black curly hair, a gentle and soft face... with a man standing next to her. Her parents, no doubt... She sighed and looked to the woman. "I know" she muttered, as if someone was talking to her...

Rhys’ scream had only lasted a second or two before she fell quiet. Her body relaxed for the vampire to drink from her, she tried to fight it but somehow she couldn’t. Then in the blink of an eye the vampire’s fangs ripped from her neck. Blood splattered across the room. She took in shaken breaths as her eyes fluttered and she looked to the queen. “No...” She breathed as the woman lifted her. “Stop...” Her voice wasn’t much more than a whisper. She didn’t fight against the queen though as she was carried away. This woman ran everything, she was strong, she commanded those around her. Yet, that vampire had struck out against Rhys. When she was set upon the couch she fought to keep her eyes open. She had to run. She had to get up. But her mind and her body weren’t quite agreeing just yet. As Thor climbed up and lay his head upon her thigh she let out a breath, his warmth. She was freezing cold, her body even shivered slightly.
She felt the growl from Thor’s chest vibrate through the back of her leg before he set his head back down. The wolf whimpered again and he licked her arm as he nuzzled against her. Rhys watched as the queen poured herself a glass of whiskey. Her eyes then trailed to the painting, her vision blurred in and out which caused her to blink her eyes a few times. Slowly she lifted her hand to her neck and pressed against the deep puncture holes. She winced and let out a shaken breath as she looked to the queen. “You know?” She breathed. Her eyes fluttered. Thor nudged her arm and whimpered at her. Rhys lay her head back and sighed. “You...didn’t have to do that...is that what you know?” She asked as she closed her eyes. “Being friends then...must have its benefits.” She let out a soft chuckle.
Rhys pushed herself up shakily. She took in deep breaths as her vision blacked out. Thor sat up and pushed his head against her shoulder to steady her. It was clear how bonded the two were. Rhys wrapped her arm around the huge wolf and found her vision once again. “That’s a neat trick you have...you know?” She spoke with a slight smile. “Disappearing and reappearing like that.” She winced slightly her neck felt as though it was on fire. “Do all the vampires have abilities?” She asked, her tone curious. Rhys closed her eyes again as a dizziness overwhelmed her. “Oh...” She lay back down on the couch with a nudge from Thor whom growled at her and lay back on her thigh. Rhys let out a laugh, “Well...what was it that you wanted to know?” She asked. “I’m afraid I’m at your disposal, your highness.” Rhys lay with her eyes closed to settle the spinning of the room. “The world isn’t the same as it was 200 years and 26 days ago.” She’d kept a careful track of the years, never losing count. “Or is it 27 now? How long did your boys keep me unconscious?” She questioned, “I can’t lose track now, I’m on a roll.” She chuckled slightly and then winced as it sent shockwaves of pain through her body. “Trivia question for you, your highness...if you will...how long would it have taken for him to kill me?” She kept her eyes closed. “I would guess not very long.” She blinked her eyes open and found the queen once again.

Lena set her drink down as the woman began to talk. She came to faster than she expected... Lena walked back over to her table and pulled out a drawer, to which she retrieved a small tin. She opened it and looked to the paste that was within. She walked over then and looked to the woman, chuckling slightly. "No... not all Vampires have abilities..." she then took her forefinger and rubbed it on the paste. She leaned forward then, slowly, and applied the gel like substance to the 2 deep punctures in her neck. "You think you've been alive for a long time, hm?" she smirked. Her voice was soft, soothing even, as she finished applying the substance. "That'll help...you heal fast though..." she stepped back and closed the tin.
"I did have to do that..." Lena cleared her voice. "He was going to kill you, and there was no stopping him..." she moved back over and poured another glass. She swirled it slightly and then took a sip. Her eyes watched the interaction of her and her Wolf. It was a beautiful display of bond, beast and... beast. She smirked to the woman - she seem to ramble, her thoughts all about, though quirky, snipe like. It reminded her of herself, when she was young and rebellious. Likely the same age as her, 200 years, give or take.
"The world isn't the same as it was eight hundred and forty six years ago, and whatever days..." she smirked then. "Sometimes... I just get tired of living it, and I take a nap for a bit..." she laughed softly. "Though, 200 years was a bit longer than I wanted..." she lifted the drink and took a long sip.
"You were out for only a few hours. The day has not changed..." she sat down then in the plush red chair across from the couch. There was a coffee table between them. "If you have the strength, you should eat" she waved to the meal, leaning back then with the glass in her hand. "A typical human lasts roughly 8.4 seconds, before death. It takes 9.1 to completely drain a human... I walked in at approximately 7 point...5?" she thought for a moment. "Any moment later and surely you'd be dead..." she shrugged. "But you are different, eh?" she sipped then.
"You're the forbidden fruit now... They can look, but can't touch. I wont even tempt myself with it... no..." she shook her head. "You're too valuable" she waved her hand. "Once you're fully recovered, you'll have the power to bust out of here, if that is what you wished. I suppose, I'd just let you go" she leaned back then. "But truth is, you have the strength to do that now, if that is what pleases you" she took in a breath, her voice rising slightly in pitch. "But...200 years alone is quite the torture. Trust me, the idea of immortality is truly a curse from hell itself" she crossed her legs and nodded. "Go on, eat..."
She sighed then "I once... had a very powerful Coven. Had the bulk of the High-Council in the palm of my hands, basically ran the place. But now" she smacked her lips. "I don't know what my enemies have left. My numbers... are...sad. I am the size of a village, practically. Shame" she leaned forward then. "We practice Silent-Draining. We don't expose ourselves, we don't take much, if we do. Quiet... sweet..friendly." she shrugged then. "Before - we even had humans who chose to live among us. Donated blood to us, willingly." she chuckled. "It was a sweet little economy..." she set the glass down then, empty.
"I want to build a city. Offer protection to the humans out there, the scared...humans. I want to rebuild my Coven, rebuild that economy. The world is an open sand pit, waiting to be claimed, hm? But you - you know what is out there, you know the safe spots, the not so safe spots... And you have power...strength..." she stood then and stepped away briefly. "You have... enough power to level this place, surely. I mean, you wouldn't kill me. No, I'm far too cunning" she winked. "But I would be without my people, which makes me... powerless. I mean, what is a Queen without followers?" she raised her hands upward and then let them fall.
"You were in chains because I had no idea who you were, what you could do...and for that, I deeply apologize. It is no way I wish to meet a potential asset to my community..." she bowed her head then. "Those other Covens out there... They will hunt the humans, turn them, kill them, suck them dry... If I do not dominate my authority, the human race will be destroyed. They are hungry, thirsty...savages..." she crossed her arms. "That sweet beauty of a man, God, or whatever. Placed you here, to help save the people you never knew were yours" she placed her hands upon her hips. "So, what do you say, hm? Stick around, save the world or what have it?"

Rhys took in a deep breath as she stared at the queen. She shied away slightly but her muscles didn’t allow her to sit up. The weakness was unlike anything she’d ever felt. As the paste was placed over the two punctures she felt an overwhelming warmth, or maybe it was the calm voice that the queen used when she spoke? The slight chuckle in her voice. She’d read books about vampires, in fact she had a whole pile of books in her home just waiting to be read. When she went out into the cities that is what she collected. She’d taught herself from a young age to read, one of the homeless women helped her with old thrown out newspapers. It was a fond memory, sitting next to the trashcan that was burning the trash of the rich. She’d sit in the woman’s arms, she was the closest thing to a mother that Rhys ever had. Though, she was sick. Just before the collapse the woman had died, cancer the others called it. They said it had moved through her body and suffocated her. Rhys remembered listening to her weak breaths the night she’d passed away. She was so cold. No matter how many scraps of cloth Rhys would put on her the woman would give a smile to Rhys and tuck her hair behind her ear. You’re a special girl, Rhys. You’re going to do great things in your life. The woman would always speak to her this way.
Rhys looked up to the queen as she stepped away. “I’ve healed quickly since the asteroid it...” She took in a breath and closed her eyes again, the world was still spinning. Thor whimpered and let out a soft growl as he placed his paws over her hips to keep her in the position she was it, this was the same moment that the queen mentioned that Rhys would be capable of leaving in that moment. Rhys wasn’t quite healed enough for that, at least as far as Thor was concerned. When the queen spoke of how long it took to kill a human she shuddered slightly, the darkness that had threatened to collapse into her vision. That was death looming over her. “If your people found out that I gave you power...” Rhys opened her eyes after the queen had finished speaking. “I’m not so sure forbidding them to drink my blood would be much of a help. Especially since you said that most vampires don’t have abilities.” She took in a deep breath and pushed herself up slowly. Thor moved and lay his head in her lap, he whimpered at her.
She reached forward to the water glass and took a few drinks from it. The world swirled about and she closed her eyes once more. She let out a soft chuckle. “Humans...” She sighed heavily. “Are very selfish beings. Incredibly selfish. I should know, I have lived it. You know as a child I was thrown into a dumpster?” She opened her eyes again. “My parents didn’t want me, they tossed me out like a rotten vegetable.” She shrugged as she reached forward and grasped the plate. She took a few bites and shared a piece of meat with Thor. He nuzzled her in return. “Before this….apocalypse I had nothing, I had the other homeless. When the asteroid hit...” She paused and shook her head. “I woke up to bodies...so many bodies...can you imagine?” She took another bite. “I found the compounds that the humans live in, I found bodies of those that had dared to venture out too soon. I tried to get in. You know what they said to me over their intercoms?” She questioned as she looked to the queen. “That I must be diseased and they didn’t want to allow it into their bunker. That I would kill them all.” She sighed as she set the plate down. “I only tried for the first 10 years or so to get into the compounds. I ventured from city to city in search. Until I realized that much like before the asteroid hit, I was alone.”
Rhys finished her meal and set the plate down. “So if you have some idea on how to save this world.” She locked her eyes on the queen then. “Be my guest. It is full of things that didn’t exist before. Though, the forests have overtaken most of the cities. The buildings are crumbled or gone. Though there is one place...” Rhys paused then her eyes moved toward the door and Thor began to growl. There was an uproar from the hallways. She stood slowly and stumbled slightly. “You led them here.” She looked to the queen, her eyes almost fearful. “You have to be careful when you go into the forests, you have to watch every move, you have to put up protections and barriers.” She grit her teeth.
The door burst open. “My queen, beasts!” A vampire pushed into the room, blood ran down his arm from deep claw marks. “Lycans...something….of the sort...”
Thor bit onto Rhys’ sleeve and tugged back on her causing her to stumble. Rhys looked to him and pat him on the head with her other hand. “Don’t worry friend.” She gave a weak smile. She then looked to the queen, “They aren’t werewolves, at least not like the books depict them. I keep shrines and herbs about my house to ward them off. Once they get the scent they press forward. I watched these creatures as a pack bust into a bunker a few years ago. Drool flowing from their jaws...I like to call them Vargar.” She spoke as she turned and walked passed the vampire that stood in the door way. Thor whimpered and then followed her.
Rhys walked through the compound her eyes looked about it, it was much more beautifully designed than the human bunkers. It must have been placed years before the fallout. It was carefully planned and artfully executed. Rhys found the stairs and climbed them, she leaned on the railing slightly, the world still spun about. She could hear the growls from outside the doorway. The pounding on the metal shield that kept the coven safe. Rhys looked to a vampire that stood with an assault rifle with wide eyes. “Could I borrow that?” She asked and pointed to the gun. The vampire looked to her a moment. “It would really make my life more simple.” She gripped it and pulled it from him. Rhys then stepped to the airlock. She turned and looked to Thor. “You stay.” She nodded and watched as Thor reluctantly sat down and whined.
Rhys then turned as the door closed behind her, the banging against the metal echoed through the chamber. She drew in a breath and as the door began to open, she opened fire into the dusk light. Snarls came as she pushed forward, unloading an entire clip. Rhys moved from the bunker and pushed into the group of the Vargar. They were lanky tall wolf like creatures that stood on two legs with glowing yellow eyes. They snarled as they began to circle about her. Rhys had one of the few things that could kill them. Fire. She had the weapon at her fingertips. She tossed the empty gun down and spun around looking at the creatures as drool dripped to the ground. They were grotesque, missing patches of fur. Deep gashes lined them from their fighting over kills. They weren’t lycans, not even close. Their bones could be seen protruding from their spin, what little hair they had left to protect. They looked mangy and dirty.
Rhys closed her eyes as the Vargar began to chuckle, they sounded like a pack of hyenas. “They sent one human out? That’s all?” One snickered. “We will have to pick your bones dry for our snack before we go for our main course.”
Rhys took in a breath as they lunged forward. Though as they did her hands held flames and a whirlwind of flames swirled around her body and engulfed the pack of four Vargar beasts. They squealed and howled in pain as the flames licked their bodies. Rhys slammed her fists into a few to deal deadly blows to their spine. This wasn’t the first time she’d fought a pack of Vargar and she knew it wouldn’t be the last. Over the past 200 years she’d dealt with this quite often. Before she found her cabin that is. She’d found a place that the Vargar were less prevalent and that is when she decided to settle into her own place. Before though...this was a nightly occurrence. She stench of their bodies burning to a crisp filled her nostrils and eventually she let the flames drop. Her eyes looked to the four bodies that now lay before her, human in size once again, though charred to a crisp. She took in a breath and she stumbled slightly. Blood dripped from her nose, in her weak state it was pushing it to use such a display of her power.
“What the hell are you?” A vampire questioned as he stepped forward his eyes looked over her. He looked to the blood dripping to the ground. “Woah.” He stepped forward as Rhys stumbled, his hands gripped her shoulders. Though he licked his lips to the stench of her blood. It gave off a different scent than that of normal human blood.
Thor rushed from the compound and whimpered as he walked around Rhys, he pushed against her legs and licked her fingertips. Rhys closed her eyes slightly. “I need to lay down...” She breathed.

Lena listened to the woman speak - of her past. A little feeling in her chest bubbled up, something she rarely felt these days. Pity. "Selfish...yes" she tilted her head. "I cannot say half of my vampires are any better, truthfully..." she stepped over then and sat back down, watching her drink from her glass. "That does sound... dreadful. I've been on the opposing side of a massacre, I've even performed a massacre. But... to wake up and be the last human alive?" she took in a long breath and slowly let it out. "I am surprised you are as composed as you are" she stood then.
Her head jerked to the side. Attention was caught. Minutes later one of her men came into the room. She snarled her teeth - fangs suddenly growing. "I knew I heard something..." she looked to the woman, curious as she stood. "Vargar, hm?" she huffed and followed swiftly behind her.
"Let her through" Lena's commanding voice called out. She disappeared in an instant, purple spoke lingering in her wake. She appeared then - standing on a pile of rubble that was once her keep. She turned - her mouth dropping slightly. The first time she had been outside in 200 years. Her home - destroyed. The ancient stone was piled on each other, covered in earth that swarmed over the structure... She slowly turned her gaze to the woman, to these Vargar.
From a distance - she could see close up. As if taking a scope and honing in. These Vargar - looked close to a Warewolf. Thin and boney, much taller and less muscle. Though something was different. Their heart beat was different, their scent - and then she heard it speak. Warewolfs could not speak in their wolf form, but this... Then a huge burst of flame came from nothing. Well it appeard to be nothing. Rather, it came from Rhys. The display of power was beautiful...she had never seen anything like it. Even the most ancient of Vampires couldn't dream of having such power.
They could. Everyone could... but not for long.... Lena suddenly disappeared once more and reappeared. She pushed the Vampire away from her. "Somethings are to good for us, you wouldn't survive it..." she spoke and placed a hand on Rhys' shoulder. She wrapped her arms around her and suddenly disappeared. She set her down on the red couch and opened the door - Thor had followed her scent.
The teleportation wasn't exactly...teleporting. It was moving at an insane speed - a slight trail of purple dust was in her wake. Enough for the wolf to follow. She sighed deeply "Well, now you are weak..." she closed the door then, her eyes watching Thor briefly...
There was a knock on the door - Albert. "Albert" she smiled. "Gather everyone...I have an announcement to make..." she spoke and smiled weakly. Within minutes everyone had congregated in the hall. She disappeared then, letting Rhys rest.
"How is the outside, hm?" she questioned, smiling weakly. "We have brought an Outsider in, as you have seen. Someone who survived the blast. Though, whatever that Meteor has brought to this Earth - has warped her, and her DNA. As you saw... Rhys has incredible powers. How? Even I do not know..." she paused then. "She knows the world out there, the terrors that inhabit it. Like the Vargar, a twisted deformed version of the Lycans. Though - they are more powerful, and extremely savage..." she crossed her arms. "They infest the world, but their weakness is different - Fire, as easy as it seems. So ensure you are armed for that battle..." she paced then.
"Many of you may seek for her blood..." she looked forward now. Her eyes glowed a bright purple color. "I will tell you right now - that this is not a good idea. Her powers have tainted her blood. I have tasted it briefly myself. It will destroy you from the inside out... You will certainly regret any attempt to drink from her..." she spoke.
"Is that why you killed Lionel?" A man called out.
Lena lifted her gaze and then chuckled. "No... he was already a dead man. I just made it swift for him..." she smirked then. "She is valuable, far more than you know. She is mine, and if you have an issue - please, step forward." she smiled then.
A young man, with tattoos covering his body stepped forward. "She is the only human here, her blood should be equal!" he called out.
"You... were not frozen, hm?" she spoke, tilted her head to the side.
"Uh... No, no I wasn't. I sat here and protected all of you. I deserve it." he pat his chest then, puffing up.
"Oh yeah?" She stepped forward and lifted her hand - then suddenly she moved it horizontally. From her finger - a flash came, then his head suddenly rolled from his neck. She sliced his throat from 10 feet away. "Many of you may not remember, or forgotten..." she kicked his dead body over, which was still standing. "I am your Queen." she stepped back to the center of the stage. "Have you forgotten our ways? Hm?" she raised her hands then. The room dimmed swiftly, her power surging the area. "Must I use another millennial idiot as an example? Hm?" she finally lowered her hands and smiled.
"I'm glad we agree... Here is the plan moving forward... Albert will section you off into groups. Our goal is to emerge and present us as allies. We are human, just as they. But with guns, hm? Protection. Rhys knows this land.. I will plan for our new home... you just wait... be patient... and don't be an idiot, like uh... Tattoo boy here..." she clapped her hands twice and smiled happily. With that - she was gone.
She appeared next with a red bag in her hand.. She sunk her teeth into it and sucked deeply. They were running extremely low, that was for sure... Lena tossed the empty bag into the trash next to her desk - and then wiped her lips. "Well, we shall see how loyal my new crew is..." she sat down then and sighed, her eyes looking to the woman... She stepped over to a door then and opened it - to a large beautiful bedroom. It had a plush King sized bed, with curtains and the like. She lifted Rhys and carried her into the room and set her on the bed... "Go on" she nodded to Thor - who jumped onto the bed next to her...
The Bedroom was more like a studio room. There was a small kitchen, a bathroom, basically everything she needed. For often she hated to leave, or even rely on someone else. She enjoyed leading the Coven, but also enjoyed her privacy, for certain... She stepped over then to a second couch in the room and sat down, sighing deeply...

Rhys nearly collapsed into the queen’s arms. “Fire is the only thing that can kill those beasts.” She whispered just before they teleported inside. The soft cushions of the couch were welcoming to her weak body. “I just need a little rest.” Rhys replied to the queen and with that her eyes slipped shut.
It wasn’t until the sun began to rise over the mountains that Rhys woke the next morning. She was curled on her side with Thor snuggled against her body. With her slight movement the wolf nuzzled her and gave a few licks to her face. The punctures in Rhys’ neck had healed over the night, leaving two pink marks upon her skin as a reminder of what happened. Rhys slowly moved and sat up. The dizziness and the weakness in her muscles had all but disappeared. Her body mended and repaired the tired muscles and cells in her sleep. That was always the best medicine for her, when she’d broken bones all she needed to do was sleep and she would be healed by morning. It was something that had kept her alive over the years. There were many wounds that would have proved fatal to a normal human, but not for Rhys. She was lucky that the powers had been activated by the asteroid, otherwise she would have been dead 200 years ago with all of the other humans. Though, sometimes she wished she had perished like them. It was a lonely existence.
Rhys sat up slowly and brushed her brown hair from her eyes. She glanced about the room slowly, empty. “Does the queen have a shower?” She wondered out loud as she slipped from the bed. Thor rolled onto his back and wiggled around on the bed before he hopped off and followed her. He growled playfully and tugged at her sleeve. Rhys chuckled softly as he pulled her into the luxurious bathroom. “Good boy.” She pat his head as she looked around and smirked slightly. She ran her fingertips along the granite countertop. It was beautiful. She’d only seen such beauty in one other place, the place she was beginning to tell the queen about before the Vargar attacked. There was a city that the buildings were not demolished in. It had lush green landscape and water flowing throughout. It was a paradise. A place she’d stayed for several years, she’d only left in search of others. Loneliness had always gotten the best of her.
Rhys turned on the water as she gathered two towels from the closet. She closed the door which Thor sat on the outside of the bathroom happily panting. Rhys stripped her clothing from her body and she piled it neatly upon the toilet lid. She then climbed into the shower and she let out a sigh, warmth. She hadn’t had a hot shower in so many years. At first electricity still ran through abandoned buildings. But the further out from the doomsday she got, the less prevalent it was to find. Rhys heated water in pales over the fire for hot baths, or she’d clean herself up in the icy rivers during the hot summer months. She had a routine, she had things planned out and figured out. But this? This was like a dream. Rhys lathered her hair with the fruity smelling shampoo and she let out a giggle as the scent overwhelmed her. It had been so long since she’d smelled anything like this. She lathered her body and conditioned her hair before she stepped from the shower and dried herself off. Clean. She finally felt clean. Something she’d really never felt, especially before the astroid hit. Rhys looked to herself in the mirror a long moment, scars lined her upper body and arms from battles that she’d fought over the years. She lifted her head and looked to the two pink marks. Vampires. She never thought they were real. Now, she knew them to be and part of her was terrified and the other wanted to form an alliance with the queen that offered shelter to her.
Rhys pulled on her clothing and stepped into her old boots before she stepped from the room. She adjusted her goggles upon her head and glanced around as Thor wagged his tail happily. Her stomach growled and it seemed to echo throughout the room. “Hm...” She stepped into the small kitchen and began to poke about. There wasn’t much. Though she managed to find a packet of cream of wheat. She smiled slightly, it was a staple at the shelters before the collapse. It had been years since she’d had it. Rhys boiled up some water and mixed it together in a bowl before she sat down on the couch. She glanced about the room curiously, taking in the fine items that the queen kept. Thor lay at her feet happily as he licked his chops, he was hungry too. “We can get you food soon my friend.” She pat his head and he nuzzled into her. Rhys finished up the bowl and moved back to the small kitchen where she washed it and set it in the drying rack before she crossed her arms over her chest. “Where is the queen at?” She wondered out loud. Thor growled playfully and ran circles around her, his tail wagging happily. Rhys chuckled as she knelt down and pet him, he nearly knocked her over as he leaned against her and licked her arms and face. He was thankful for her to be alive and it showed.

Moments later, after sitting down, Lena stood once more and vanished. She appeared next - standing on the rubble of her once known home. Her eyes glanced outward. Even though it was night - she could see as if it was day. Her entire eyes were pitch black - her Pupil dilated far beyond a human, consuming the entire eye - thus allowing her to draw in light from the faintest source. She placed her hands upon a railing of what once was a balcony - now consumed by vines and leaves...
She heard a rustling then - her head jerking swiftly. Then out of the bushes came running - a man. He breathed heavily - she could see his heart pulsing swiftly, 192 beats per minute, his muscles were full of blood... fight or flight, and in this case... flight. She pulled a dagger from her thigh and rushed downward. Behind him was 2 Vargar's rushing behind him. Teeth baring - drooling, scowling... Lena leaped forward and stabbed on in the shoulder, dragging the blade downward. The Vargar shrieked and clawed toward her. She swiftly moved, twirling her body, she grasped his other arm and pushed him into the ground with strength. With her blade she swiftly sliced his throat.
The second Vargar lunged to her. She reached forward then and grasped his neck as she was thrown onto her back. She grit her teeth as he pushed downward, jaws snapping infront of her face. Then with a twisting motion - she broke his neck. She swiftly tossed him to the side and slowly stood. The human heaved loudly, standing before her.
"Thank you - so much" he breathed heavily. "I - I owe you, what was that?" he questioned.
"A Vargar, a kind of deformed wolf..." she replied and stood up. She brushed herself off and smiled. "I am Lena... you are?" she held her hand forward.
The man smiled "Stephen" he shook her hand.
"Come on Stephen, our base is just under here. Let's get you patched up, then I can help you get back to your people tomorrow, hm?" she led him forward.
"Thank you, thank you so much..."
The night proceeded - she helped him to a human chambers. There was a side to the base that was entirely for humans, the ones who willingly lived with them. There was a kind of rule - you did not harm them. Though now she would have to install a new rule - pretend you're not a vampire. Though it went without saying.
"Right in here, a spare room for you" she smiled and held the door open for him. Stephen stepped in behind her and observed the room, his eyes wide as he walked around - touching the beautiful mahogany dresser...
"This place is so beautiful, I imagine... this was once an old building.. oh how gorgeous it must have been" he sighed softly.
"Yeah, I found a few diaries. I think it was a church or something, it truly is gorgeous. I feel lucky. It even had some back up generators underground as well, hence the lights... oh, and the running hot water" she lead him over to the shower. Infront of the Human - her Queen voice was hidden. To Stephen she was just some 26 year old, or so, that happened to save him. With... perfect porcelain skin, shining black raven hair, and crystal blue eyes that could pierce a fire to ice.
"I've got a decent crew here, we left the bunker a few days earlier than everyone else. Eager, you know? But we found out fast... the bunker was a better place. We happened upon this and... we've called it home" she shrugged then. "Wash up, I'll bring you some food... and I'll catch you in the morning, Stephen?" she smiled then. Her perfect white teeth showed, with a cute curve to her lips. Though, something was enchanted about her. Stephen leaned to the side slightly, smitten by her, surely... which was exactly what she wanted. He wouldn't ask questions... not if he could only think about her. A Vampire perk...seduction was their curve ball.
"Good night" she nodded her head and left the room. She turned then and wiped a bit of blood from her lips. Stephen had no idea - she had sucked his blood...It happened swiftly, and his memory had already forgotten it. The two marks upon his neck - healed by her own blood. That was the trick - the mixture of Vampire Blood and Vampire Saliva made for a solvent that healed most minor wounds, plus it would fog the memory. Though it only mixed with the same vampire's DNA...
She stepped away, satisfied with her dinner. His memories still played in her head... kissing some girl, eating food - breathing a fresh breath of air... for him - it was like a miracle. He was born and raised in that shelter, as was everyone... She took in a breath then and entered her office once more. Most were asleep, but not her. She had slept long enough...
When morning came - she had escaped away to the Great Hall. She spoke of their plan once more. Befriend the Humans, use this opportunity to develop a reputation. We shall lead them to the greater city. She spoke of how she had a lead, possibly to whatever civilization Stephen was from... From there - they would lead the humans back. Meanwhile, she needed several groups to scout... find the other Covens and spy...
When she returned to her office - she heard the shower running. She smiled to herself as she sat at her desk, a map open. She wondered how much had changed... she was already informed how the world had been morphed... She was as blind as she was, of the world, of when she was young. No technology to truly help. Though... at least now they had running water, electricity... that is, if they got lucky to find a place as kept as her home... She lifted her head then as she heard the water turn off.
She listened for a while... just to study Rhys briefly. She tilted her head as she sat at her desk... she made food... ate it... played with Thor... Lena smirked slightly and then stood - opening the door from the office to the bedroom. "In here..." she smiled and waved her over. "Come come..." she lead her to sit infront of her desk.
Lena sat down and crossed her legs briefly, thinking. "A glorious thing happened last night. I was standing out, taking in some air.. mourning over my once beautiful mansion... and a human came upon me. Two Vargars attacking him. I rescued him - and now he is here. I have agreed to take him back to his little village.... let me tell you my idea, hm?" she smiled. She went on to explain her plan to protect the humans. They would lead them to this city that Rhys had told her of.
"So, first... we need to take him home. Then... we visit this city of yours... begin our plan to create a new civilization... load it up with humans..." she smiled. "We can be a happy little city. Jobs...an economy, protection, all that lovely goodness" she stood. "So, will you accompany me to take Stephen home?" she questioned. "Come, come meet him" she waved her hand and led her out of the room. They traversed through a few halls, until they came upon a large door, which lead into the Human Commons. They came upon the first room, and she knocked on it. Behind her was a vampire - with a plate of food in his hand. Eggs, bacon, toast...
The door opened and Stephen stepped forward. "Oh Lena, good morning" he ran his fingers through his freshly combed hair. He was cleaned up and tidy, a fresh pair of clothes.. Jeans, graphic T, casual for sure.
"Stephen, this is Rhys, she is my second hand...woman" she chuckled then. Her voice was different once more. "Kind of a badass" she winked to him. "We're going to escort you home... but first - breakfast" she reached over and handed him a plate. "Once you're ready, we will be off, hm?" she smiled once more and then stepped away briefly, allowing him to swiftly eat. Moments later he stepped out of the room and nodded.
"Right... I am pretty sure I know the way back?" Stephen sighed softly. "I wasn't quite sure where I was running... just trying to get away from those...things.. but I know the general direction. We're right on the bank of a river - just a bit from a decent waterfall." Stephen followed as they made their way out - up a set of stairs and outside.
The sun peaked through the trees - blaring into Lena's eyes. She winced slightly - holding her hand up to block it. Vampires didn't die to the light, but they surely didn't like it. They burned easily, and exhaustion came swiftly. Though she was strong enough to usually push through it... "Right, I am sure we find it. I saw you coming from this way..." she pointed. "Off we go" she pulled a rifle onto her back, more for show than anything....

Rhys looked up from where she was crouched a smile still on her lips from playing with Thor. She followed the queen into the office and took a seat across from the woman. She watched her curiously. “Such impeccable timing to find a human.” She let out a chuckle as if she was amused. “I am at your disposal, the human life balance hangs in your hands and without humans your own species will wither away I imagine.” She took in a breath, “Besides, you saved me, I was less than a few seconds from death.” She chuckled softly. She was clearly feeling much better. Her emerald eyes looked over the woman a moment before she looked to the contents of the office. “The city, it is a paradise, filled with waterfalls and rivers. It is unlike anything before the asteroid. It’s beautiful. If it still stands I think it would be a perfect home. I lived there for nearly 10 years, such a small amount of time but, the same token I enjoyed it. I just wanted….more...” Rhys stood and rubbed Thor’s head. “I wouldn’t have found this guy if I stayed there.”
She then fell quiet as she followed the queen through the bunker, her eyes looked to the paintings and the architecture once again, taking in the beauty. Then the strange tone in the queen’s voice caught Rhys of guard. She looked to the woman a long moment and then grinned and looked to the man. “Ah yes, badass, that’s the term she likes to use for me.” She shrugged, “I just kill things that threaten us, it isn’t really a big deal.” She caught Stephen looking to Thor with worried eyes. “He’s with us, cool as a cucumber so long as you don’t try to hurt me.” She grinned. As they were leaving she frowned slightly. “My bow?” She asked as she looked through the weapons. “My knife?” She asked.
“Here.” A vampire stepped forward and handed her her pack as well as her weapons. “We kept it safe for you.”
Rhys grinned like a giddy school girl that had purchased the finest of backpacks for class. “Ahh yes.” She threw her bow over her shoulder and climbed up the stairs after the two. “By a waterfall you say?” She questioned and nodded.
“Yeah, it’s a tall one too.” Stephen replied.
Rhys looked around her eyes seemed to be calculating things, almost as if she could map the world around her. She looked to broken twigs and branches from the Vargar chasing after their new companion. Thor trotted ahead sniffing and changing directions as needed.
“So….a bow?” Stephen finally said after a long moment of silence. “I mean, that’s a little...uhh...”
Rhys stopped and turned to him, she had a smile on her lips. “Weak?” She asked, “Was that the word you were searching for?”
Stephen stood before her, stopped in his tracks by her stare. “No...um...I mean Lena has a gun...I um...”
“Well I prefer to hunt with a bow. It is silent. Precise.” Rhys nodded and turned her head. “See...” She drew her bow and pulled an arrow from her quiver. “See that rabbit.” She pointed to the small creature in the distance.
“Um...y-yeah.” Stephen seemed slightly uncomfortable.
Rhys grinned as she took aim swiftly and the arrow cut through the air. Perfect hit. The rabbit toppled back and Thor ran to grab the kill. Within seconds he was back at her side wagging his tail happily to his fresh breakfast. “Good boy.” She pat his head. “Don’t question my bow.” She looked to him with a smirk. She’d always hated guns. They drew in attention from Vargar and other unsightly beasts. Things that a single human in the wilds didn’t need coming after her in packs.
Stephen held his hands up. “Note taken.” He chuckled slightly. “So um...my group...we don’t have much food left...and uh...” He bit his lower lip slightly.
“Of course we can help you. Growing our numbers will help us get out of the bunkers.” Rhys spoke with a smirk, “Doesn’t the sunlight feel incredible? I mean...growing up in the bunker was fine, but...real sunlight? Real warmth.” She sighed happily. “The scent of the forest.” She twirled and rushed forward a bit with a grin on her lips. She was quirky, but that was understandable. This was the first human...well human and vampire contact she’d had since she was 6...200 years ago. Of course she would be excited.
They traveled for most of the day, Rhys would make silly comments here and there and Thor would run ahead scouting. It was a perfect team her and the wolf. She worked seamlessly with the creature as if she was one of his own. Stephen was smitten by Lena still, a smile upon his lips each time he’d caught her eyes. The effect that she had on him was something that Rhys didn’t see. Then again, her powers made the effects of a vampire quite different on her. Sure Lena had made her feel calm, but she had allowed it...it wasn’t overwhelming, it wasn’t that her mind was forced to calm. She wanted to relax when she’d lost nearly all of her blood.
As they peaked a hill Rhys stopped and nodded, she could see the glint of a metal door in the distance. “That’s it!” Stephen grinned, “I never thought I would make it home!” He chuckled happily. “I owe you everything, Lena, thank you!” He rushed forward to the door and smiled happily.
“Oh yes, thank you Lena.” Rhys put her hands together and pretended to swoon before she giggled and followed after him. “Not like Thor or I helped at all. Just sayin’.” She raised a brow as she glanced to the queen, though her smile was almost playful.
Stephen placed his hand on a reader and it scanned him. A robotic voice welcomed him and he doors hissed as they released and rolled open. He ushered the two inside. Rhys stepped in and looked to the old metal walls, this was more like the bunker she was used to. Nothing special to it, just a metal box in the ground. The lights flickered slightly. The generators must have been running low after all these years, the solar panels must have been wearing out and breaking. It was a perfect time to coax the humans to join them. Rhys glanced to Lena a moment before the air lock sprayed them to decontaminate them. She coughed and waved the smoke from her eyes as they were allowed into the bunker. Though they were greeted with the muzzles of pistols. Stephen stepped forward and held his hands up, “Hey, easy. Easy these two are with me. I found another group.” He spoke up and the pistols lowered.
“You found more survivors?” A man asked hopefully, a smile curved up his lips. “There’s more than just….us?”
“Yes, plenty more and they have food, and water...hot fresh water...” He glanced back to the two.
The man stepped forward, he had a thick well kept beard upon his face. He looked Lena up and down before his eyes moved to Rhys. “Please, come in. I am the mayor...if you will...of this little community.” He offered a warm smile. “I thought we were the only ones left. It is a miracle that others have survived. Come, come.” He led the two through the corridors. Eyes watched the two outsiders curiously taking in their every movements. “We’ve sent scouts out for a week now, searching for survivors. Stephen is the first to return alive. We have found the remains of some of the others, torn to pieces by the beasts...” He shuddered as he walked into a small office with papers sprawled out over the table. “We found a bunker that was destroyed by the beasts...bodies everywhere.” He shook his head. “It’s horrible...the world is so different now than what our books tell us.”
“That’s because of the asteroid that hit the earth, it changed things.” Rhys spoke up, “Those monsters are morphed versions of the animals that roamed the planet….they aren’t what they were before.”
“This is true. I captured one to study it. Such interesting creatures. They heal quickly...I’ve been trying to figure it out...but I digress.” He chuckled. “My name is Peter.” He held his hand forward.
“Rhys.” She held her hand forward. “This is Lena, she is our leader.”
“Ah yes, but you seem to be the deal maker, hm?” Peter chuckled, “You’re both so young.” He nodded. “What is it that you have?” He asked.
“We left our old bunker around 4 weeks ago. We sent scouting missions in all different directions in search of survivors and salvation as well. We found our little haven as of right now, and I have a lead on city that was scouted just two days ago. It survived the collapse….well parts of it did.” Rhys spoke quickly and effectively.
The mayor looked to her and gave a nod, “We are all but out of food, only a few rations left.”
“We’ve plenty of food.” Rhys replied.
“At what cost?” He seemed suspicious.
Rhys smiled as she looked to him, her eyes locked on his. “We want to flourish just as much as you, our numbers are small. The added numbers of your people as well as ours. We can rebuild this world. We can draw others in to help us. Word will spread like wildfire.” She glanced to Lena. “Won’t it?” She asked, “We have plenty of space for your people, and when we reach the city and deem it safe...it is even larger than our bunker that we have been blessed with.” She grinned and looked back to him. “We have food, guns, ammunition.”
The man searched over Rhys a moment, “You came here with the idea of befriending us and finding new allies, hm?” He chuckled, “We don’t have much to offer.” He spoke as he watched her. “Just our bodies as fighting power, or what have you.”
“That’s all we would need, isn’t it, Lena? We just want to grow….together we will be much stronger. We can protect your people. We will flourish together.” She smiled and glanced to Lena once again. Rhys took in a breath, “Unless you’d rather starve?” She raised a brow before she looked to him with a serious tone in her expression.

Lena watched as Rhys showed off her bow. Simple was always better, she was right in every way. She could remember the days of the crossbow - the ultimate Lycan hunting weapon. For the same reason... power, precision and silence. This girl really knew her stuff, with every moment she seemingly was impressed. "Ah yes, never underestimate the bow" she stepped over a small log. "Fun fact - the bow and arrow was one of the most revolutionary weapons of old warfare? It was less the bow, but more so the long bow. The English invented it, and is why for a portion of history - they dominated. And also... why flicking someone off with your index and middle finger is such an insult. The French cut off the two fingers of Englishman, in the dead of night, as a retaliation of such an invention. Over time those two fingers developed into just the middle finger, our common signal of hate for today" she laughed. "I have a love for historical facts, comes useful in moments like this..." she paused "Middle ages time, by the way, when knights in shining armor were a thing." she spoke as they continued on.
She watched as the two worked seamless as a team. The two kept them on track and soon they came upon the bunker. As they entered - she glanced to Rhys. The woman took the lead, and took it well. She smirked then, even letting out a chuckle. "Leader, Mayor, Queen, whichever works" she playfully laughed and nodded as Rhys continued on.
"Ah, yes. As my Esteemed partner in crime has mentioned... I want to build a community up. A large one. One where people have jobs, one where you can live out in the sun - with no fear. Where we can plow the earth, and cultivate. I only have so many people...we have to do this all together. Call it Hopeful, call it Naive, but it is better than letting this world eat us away..." she crossed her arms.
"I'll tell you what..." she smiled then. "I'll let you think on it? Stephen here has seen our home, our people... Let him tell you for himself.." she tilted her head. "I'll come back in 2 days. We'll deliver what we can offer. From there - you can decide to bring your people... I would hope that you'd discuss it, vote it over. For that would be the same way I would operate... that is, of course, you'd likely have to follow us. I think... maybe having some kind of council, or some sort... I am working out the details. You would be a fine representation of your people..." she spoke clearly, though with a smile. Her alluring effects spreading about the room - the men and even the women who watched her speak.
"Stephen, it was a pleasure to meet you. I am truly happy to have come across some one fresh and new. To think... there could be so many others out there..." she sucked in a breath. There was a shout from outside then. Lena turned swiftly and looked to Rhys. "Go go" she rushed forward, pushing the huge door open then.
Six Vargar's clawed at a woman's dead body - her flesh ripped from her body, blood spilling every where. One tall Vargar lifted his head - mouth full of a chunk of meat - the woman's rear to be specific. He chewed several times before swallowing - he then roared loudly, a mix between a kind of lion roar and a wolf's howl. "No magic - " Lena spoke in a hushed tone to Rhys.
She drew a long dagger from her thigh and grit her teeth. "Come at me boys!" she lifted the Machine gun with one hand and fired it toward the crowd of them. The bullets flew forward - two Vargar fell to the ground, wounded but not killed. They instantly began rushing after Lena. She ran to the side, dashing between trees. She stopped suddenly and pulled the gun back out - shooting wildly at them. It was then that she bumrushed forward. Her dagger stabbed into the gut of one - dragging upward.. slicing his stomach like butter. She then pulled the dagger and stabbed up his jaw, piercing into his brain. She used the body like a shield then.
Another Vargar leaped forward and went to bite down - except she moved so that the Vargar chomped down onto the shoulder of her new meat shield. She held the gun up and fired several times into the head of the beast. She tossed both down and suddenly her body was flung back. One pummeled her - the rifle landing several feet away. She was pinned against a huge tree - where she struggled against him. The Vargar chomped down then - biting onto her arm. She cried out and then grit her teeth - Fangs elongating now with rage. She reached forward then and swiftly gripped one long fang of the Vargar. She twisted it and the tooth was ripped from his mouth. She then turned it swiftly and stabbed it into his temple, piercing his skull so hard that the entire tooth impacted into his brain. He fell limp, and she dropped from the 8 feet that she was lifted. She breathed heavily, a hand upon her arm as she slowly bled....
