Before her rest the glorious leaderboard, glowing against the grey stone walls.. The very top rest her name, miles ahead of the rest. “Connecticut” In a dark green color. Next to the name a number glowed even brighter than the rest. 8,992. The highest score yet of all of the games in their full month of training. . The leader board then flipped a second later, a few names changed places but Connecticut till reigned first. The overall score number. All rest in the high thousands, but hers was the first to break 5 digits. She gave a chuckle and then turned around, only to catch a glance of a fellow Spartan staring at her. He shook his head and turned from the room, his bulky boots leading him down the hallway. It was Washington… she glanced back to the leaderboard just as it flipped to another game. His name appeared on the bottom, glowing a gentle orange. This meant he was close to losing his spot. It went by colors. Green was the good zone, it meant you were higher than expectation. White meant you were clear, right at expectation. Yellow means a few points behind. Orange means you are below standard. Finally… red was well below standard. If anyone ever achieved red – reassignment is to occur. She glanced back, Washington’s back was far in the distance now, and he took a final turn before he disappeared. “Connecticut, please report to my office.” A voice came dialing into her helmet. “Yes sir.” She replied. Her eyes looked through the pitch dark visor, guiding her steps through the corridors. Finally she came to a door. “Sir.” CT stood at attention, her posture perfect as could be. The Director glanced her way. He was a rather short man, though anyone would be short next to a Spartan. He had short grey hair, his face beginning to show age in the form of wrinkles and heavy bags in his eyes. “We have a new recruit. Currently in her first Combat Assessment.. The name… Texas. We have assigned Texas as your bunkmate. This also means you are expected to give Texas a tour, to assure Texas understands and follows schedule, and to assist until she finds herself in the flow. “ he paused and then walked over to the table. “You are doing well on the leaderboard. But there is a reason we have requested Texas to join us. Do not underestimate her…” he then nodded. “Now.. quick, her assessment should be over about now.. Prepare her for the first training exercise of the day..” He leaned back in the chair and then flicked his pen towards the door to whence she came. CT looked to him and then nodded. She turned and left the room as instructed. “Requested…” she muttered under her breath, her helmet absorbing the sound… She made her way to the arena, where the group had already began to crowd for the training. Though everyone glanced through the glass, staring down at the new recruit. There were thousands of mutters. “Holy shit, look at her..” gasps, tiny shouts “AH that had to hurt!” – “Did he just get punched in the balls?” CT stared from the back of the room, glancing to the arena. Once the battle ended they all turned and glanced to CT. Washington chuckled and then spoke “Doesn’t look like you’ll be the top of the charts for long.” The entire crew laughed. CT crossed her arms and ignored the comment, standing stiff as a statue. The elevator opened and she came forward.. There was some sort of commotion, but it was all a haze for CT. She stared, her brown armor hiding in the shadow as she glared to this beast of a person. Just who the hell are you… Texas? Then suddenly the room got silence as someone entered the room. CT turned her gaze to see their Commander. He stood in a full Orbital suit, his white skull panning the room. “You better be prepping for today’s training.” He pushed through the crowd and then punched a round button on the panel system. Behind them a leaderboard appeared. Their current date list at the top, names filled the board but no numbers to follow. The game obviously had not started yet. At the top it said “Hand to hand combat” Just as it appeared there were several groans, those who hated Hand to Hand. “You have 15 minutes until the fight begins. And just for laughs, Every man for themselves. “ he gave a deep and almost evil laugh and then crossed his arms. CT gazed to Texas and then finally made her way toward her. “The name is CT.” She held her hand out to shake Texas. “I’m your bunkmate. I’ve been ordered to be your guide until you find no need for me otherwise.” She moved her hand her away after a moment and then glanced to the Arena. “I suppose it is unfair to expect you to enter again, but I don’t make the rules. Hand to Hand combat, as you have already performed. There is some water over there..” she turned her gaze towards a small table with a huge jug and cups. “Otherwise, I suppose I will see you next in the arena..” she took a step back and the nodded. She then slowly moved away, back to her little corner of the room. She always seem to gravitate towards the back of the room. While everyone stood around and talked, shooting the shit, she always seem to stand alone. She wasn’t sure exactly why. If it was her natural silent instincts, or if everyone just hated her guts. When the time was up there was a single bell and everyone stepped to the huge elevator. Each filed in until the doors closed and slowly it began downwards. “Step on the Spawner. And let the games begin” A voice came over a loud intercom… The doors opened and CT watched each person step onto the blue strip and disappear. Everyone was gone.. and then she took her first step forward, a small nervousness in her throat as she watched Texas move forward.

“Round one, begin.” The automated female voice echoed through the battle arena. Within the arena stood four Spartans, three stood on one side facing a lone wolf. She stood in black steel Mark VI armor, her hands wrapped around the steel of a training baton. The team of York, Wyoming, and Maine rushed forward toward the lone soldier, in hopes to overpower her. This Spartan was Agent Texas, Tex for short. She swiftly brought the end of the baton into Maine’s neck, knocking him face first into the ground before she turned with ease as she took out Wyoming’s legs and finally with a swift jump she catapulted York into the ground, the steel of the rod snapped into two pieces. Tex rushed forward as Maine staggered to his feet. She gripped his baton into her hands and flipped over his shoulders, catching his neck in the length of the steel pipe. His body lifted upward, his heels dug into the floor, as Tex began to walk toward the other two with him hanging against her back. She kicked forward into York’s stomach, sending him flying back before she broke the baton away and made contact with Wyoming’s head, sending him once again into the floor.
A long drawn out beep carried over the training field as Tex turned to look to the three as they staggered to their feet. The Spartan threw the remainder of her baton to the side and brought her fists up, jumping around agilely as the three stepped cautiously toward her. “Alright guys.” York spoke, “This should be easy, we just need to stick--“ Wyoming and Maine rushed forward toward the new Freelancer, once more hoping for numbers to be on their side. “Or not…” York rushed in behind them. Tex blocked each blow, each kick. Easily sending the three crashing once more into the floor one by one like dominoes lined up for the kill. Her moves were swift, precise. She never missed her mark. It was easy to say that she might be the most qualified Freelancer yet. The next several rounds came, all hand to hand combat. Agent Texas ducked and flipped her way around the three Freelancers, easily taking them out, easily sending them into the hard concrete floor of the training arena. Soon enough, the automated voice spoke again. “Round end, Agent Texas…advantage eight.” There had been eight rounds, all eight she had won effortlessly it seemed. “Round nine, combat arms, begin.” The voice announced as each member on the floor picked up a pistol filled with freeze paint rounds.
The rounds would freeze the armor of the Spartan it came into contact with instantly. Debilitating them and taking them out of the fight, just like a real round would do if fired through the armor. Pillars shot up around the room as the group began moving around. “Alright, stick together guys, let’s use tactics.” York tried once more as the other two rushed forward, only to get gunned down by Tex easily once more. This just like the other rounds continued with Tex seeming to dance around the three, sneaking up behind them and shooting the Freelancers at point blank in the back of their helmets. Or even using hand to hand combat followed by a few pistol rounds to debilitate the opponent. It was round twelve before the group knew it, each round ending with the echoed words of, “Point Texas.”
York stood, defeated as he look before him to the pillars. He glanced over to his teammates as they passed something between their hands. Magazines? “Hey what are you guys doing?” He asked just as the round was announced. The two rushed forward, firing live rounds toward the new Freelancer. “Guys!! Wait! That’s not allowed!!” York cried rushing forward as the pillars cracked and pieces of the concrete fell to the ground. Live ammo on the training floor was strictly prohibited. But, the director was known to challenge worthy Freelancers, and Tex was turning into one of those Freelancers within her first testing session. Tex stood behind a pillar, her magnum held in both hands as the devised a plan of attack. Suddenly her shoulder was grabbed from behind. She whipped around, pointing the gun directly into Agent York’s face. “Woah, woah!!” He cried as he raised his hands up into the air. “I’m just trying to help you out here, Tex.”
Tex shook her head and pressed the gun into York’s neck. “I don’t need your help.” She growled lowly, “The last thing you should be doing is abandoning your team. You never abandon your teammates.” She then brought the butt of the pistol into the side of his head before she turned and rushed toward Agent Maine. Several shots were fired from her gun, splattering across his body. Tex reached forward and slammed him into a pillar shattering the concrete with the force of her blow. Shots rang out from the fully loaded pistol behind her as Wyoming shot. Tex spun around just in time for a bullet to catch her shoulder. A groan escaped her lips as she aimed in with the pistol and let another clip empty into the Freelancer, sending him to his back on the concrete floor. Tex held her shoulder as she spun around to catch Maine free of the freezing paint once more. She shot several times, capturing his hand into a pillar before she rushed toward York, knocking him to the ground. Just as she aimed to finish him off a grenade flew through the air from Maine’s hand, landing just feet away from York. Tex took that moment before the explosion to cover York in the freeze paint, protecting him from the blast wave.
Tex glared in the direction of Agent Maine as medics rushed the room. She holstered the magnum on her thigh before she walked toward the elevator that had taken her into the training arena in the first place. She holstered her second pistol before she held her shoulder. Sparks came from her armor as she let out a groan. She punched the up button on the elevator before she leaned heavily against the wall. Her muscles were worn out from the relentless rounds that she had been placed in. When the doors finally opened she looked about to the several Freelancers that stood before her. She looked about the group as sparks came from her shoulder once more. “What are you staring at?” She snapped, clearly disgruntled from the use of live arms, or possibly from the fact that she had been hit.
South chuckled, her purple and green armor glistened in the light. “It’s time for training, Tex. That was just your test.”
Tex looked up at the Spartan her orange visor reflected the florescent lights of the room. “Oh is that so.” She said as a medic rushed to her side and towed her away, just in time too. If she had been left with the freelancer it was no doubt she would have silenced South with a shot to the face. The medic pulled at the armor and shook his head as he repaired the pieces. Tex let out a slight cry when he pressed against he wound that bled slightly beneath her thick under suite. It was then that CT found her way over to the new freelancer. Tex looked to the brown armor, the interesting helmet. Then she looked to CT’s hand as it was extended toward her. Tex awkwardly shook the woman’s hand with her left hand, as her right arm was immobile in that moment. “Thanks.” She said as she watched the Spartan retreat back to her shadowy corner. She winced again as the medic finished up and replaced her armor; he injected a serum into her arm that caused a numbing sensation to fill the space of the pain. Tex raised her hand and curled her fingers several times before she rolled her shoulder and gave a nod. That would do for the games. It would give her enough edge off of the pain to finish the fight.
It was about that time that the bell rang and Tex found herself following the group of Freelancers into the elevator. “Don’t look so bummed out.” South chuckled again. That was it. Tex grabbed the Spartan by her throat, slamming her against the wall before she pulled the pistol from her thigh and let go three rounds of the freeze paint into the Spartan’s helmet, freezing her head against the wall. Tex then placed the pistol back in her holster, she glanced around at the empty stares of the other freelancers before she looked to CT as the automated voice spoke to step onto the blue line. Tex took in a deep breath and let it out slowly, as if she was already frustrated with the entire situation. She hadn’t signed up for this. She had basically been kidnapped from Blood Gulch and thrown into the arena in the first place. “Good luck.” She said to CT just as she stepped forward onto the line and disappeared…

“Hmph” CT grunted and then moved forward, taking a breath just as the device activated. She appeared suddenly standing right next to a wall. She glanced upward to see many ramps that led upward to a main deck, and 2 cross paths. She hated the arenas that went high, it meant no ambushing. She turned as she heard footsteps. On the side of her visor she glanced to the small map. She turned quickly and dashed around a corner and deployed her decoy, which ran forward – towards the Tan Spartan. York laughed and pounced the Decoy, only to fall right through it. “Idiot..” she muttered and then leaped from her corner, landing on top of New York. She brought her fist down against the back of his neck. “Assassination, bitch.” York instantly disappeared from beneath her.
She then felt a kick to her head and fell to the side. Wash stood over her. He leaned down and lifted her into the air. CT reached forward and grasped is arm, then with her boot she kicked his crotch, causing him to drop her. CT instantly moved to the side and jabbed into his armor, light hits for confusion. Then just as he turned to hit her, she slammed her foot into his chest, sending him backwards into the wall. Then she ran forward and leaped into the air, bringing a fist into his visor. There was a slight cracking sound, the visor cracking under the pressure of her fist. And then Wash disappeared.
CT breathed heavily and then hugged the wall, two red dots just around the corner. She glanced to see a warrior in all black, pounding the life out of South. South couldn’t do anything, one hit after another, sh was getting ruined. Then south disappeared, leaving Texas standing. Instantly she cloaked, she knew CT was there, she had to. Quickly CT left a halogram standing in her place and then leaped upward. Just enough for her hand to grasp the ledge above her and lift her up. She then bolted across the pass.
She stop and placed her back against a wall, now in a short hallway. She was breathing heavy, her eyes fixated on the direction Tex might come from. What’s with the fear, CT… I can handle her… She turned her helmet just in time to dodge a punch from North. “God damn purple people eater! You look like Barney!” She shouted and rolled to the ground. Instantly she leaped up and brought her knee into North’s gut and then slammed her fists on the back of his head, sending him down into the ground. She suddenly flew to the side, just as Maine kicked her in the ribs. She slid to the ground and now both Maine and North approached her. “Bring it, boys” She stood up and then began to dodge and block several punches. “That all you got?” She laughed and then kicked Maine’s feet, sending him falling, she placed her boot on his helmet and then palmed North in the chest, enough strength to send him fumbling backwards. She kicked Maine’s head with force, causing him to disappear, then North grunted and leaped in the air. She simply moved to the side and elbowed his back harshly. “Beat down.” She spoke and he disappeared into air.
She glanced to her shield meter on her visor and watched it recharge with energy again. She saw red and instantly formed her Decoy. It ran forward and then stopped, glancing around – as if looking for someone. You would think by now they wouldn’t fall for her decoy, it got the idiots every time. A cyan Spartan dashed forward and then turned her head, looking directly at CT. There was a laugh from the “Decoy” Which was actually the real CT. The halogram flickered and disappeared, where Carolina stared to. She had switched roles, sent herself out as a mimic decoy, to fool Carolina. CT turned and then leaped onto Carolina, wrapping her legs around her – and she clocked both sides of her helmed with her palms, enough to actually flicker her system and ring her ears. Carolina fell forward and CT brought her fist into her back, and she slowly disappeared.
Suddenly a rush of 3 spartans came her way. They were forming together to gang up on CT. She knew it so because they were shouting “There she is!” as they turned the corner. CT glanced to the wall and the ran towards it, her boots pushed her up the wall, just enough to jump off. She flipped easily and landed directly behind the crowd. She reached forward and grasp the back of one and with both arms – brought him into her fist, smashing his neck. Instantly he disappeared. Then she blocked several attacks.. then she butterfly kicked one in the face and then brought her hand up to catch the fist of the other, she twisted his arm and then threw him over her shoulder, smashing him into the ground. The grey Spartan she had thrown disappeared, only one remained. Sunshine State Florida stood before her. “God your armor is annoying” she spoke and then they began to duel. Florida put up a good fight, even got a few punches into CT, before finally she judo chopped his neck, sending him crumpling into the ground. CT’s specialty was the Neck, she could get in right where the armor had least protection. “Boom” she whispered, just as Florida landed to the ground. “Almost a triple kill..” she muttered.
She then came around the corner, just in time to see Tex bashing at another Spartan. “Okay.. I can do this” she ran forward, deploying her Halogram to run side by side next to her. She ran directly to Tex, only to get a fist directly into her chest, sending her flying backwards. She tumbled a few yards, rolling over until she gripped the ground, and stood back up. She stared for a long moment at Tex… she was fast… and super strong. Behind her helmet her mouth was open. Her shield was down, and she knew it wasn’t going to charge.,.. and here she comes. She glanced to the clock on her headsup display, 30 seconds left of the fight. Slowly her shield regained 50 percent, but still flashed at her eyes. She then brought her fists up and looked to Tex. “Okay. Let’s go” she spoke aloud for Tex to hear…

Tex found herself at the top of the map. She looked around the arena as she listened for footsteps. Her cloaking activated and she became invisible to the other Spartans. She crouched down as red blips appeared on her heads-up display then North ran up the ramp, right into her trap. Tex stood and rushed forward, snatching him by the back of his helmet. She threw him into the ground onto his back and brought her fist down into his helmet, cracking the laser formed carbon steel. His body disappeared and Tex took off at a full sprint, her cloaking flickered. She was caught in her right shoulder by a fist. Her armor instantly began shooting sparks from the previous injury. Tex stumbled and turned, her visor reflecting the purple armor of South. "Guess you won't be using that arm much huh?" South chuckled as she charged forward.
Tex let out a growl as she jumped and brought her knee into South's gut, sending her backward. The Spartan then rushed forward and began throwing punches, left and right, she ignored the pain that shot through her body, the sparks that flew from her armor. Sweat beaded on her brow beneath the helmet. She watched as South's shields broke, the freelancer held her arms up, trying to defend herself. But, it was no use against the strength that Tex had, especially now that she had become enraged by the Spartan before her. All the while her eyes kept note of a blip that crept closer. When South finally disappeared Tex did the same, crouching down and spinning around, her eyes searched the field before her, waiting for the inevitable movement of her opponent. Tex rushed forward then, tackling the hologram to the ground just as CT scaled the ledge. She punched into the hard concrete ground and drew her brows together as the hologram dissipated. Tex brought her gaze up just in time to see CT's foot disappear over the edge, a smirk formed on her lips beneath the helmet. "Well played." She spoke before she ran off once more, she caught a glimpse of green armor in her peripheral vision. She leaped to the side and rolled, turning to face her opponent, it was Agent Georgia. He walked toward Tex in a cocky fashion, as if he had already decided that he would win this match. "You don't look so good there, Tex." He chuckled, noting her injury.
Tex held her shoulder as she stood, sparks shooting from her armor once more. "I don't need your help." She snapped before she rushed forward, kicking him square in the chest. This sent him into the wall behind him. She sprinted and brought her elbow directly into the center of his helmet, shattering the glass into a thousand tiny shards. He disappeared and Tex backed into the wall, the pain in her arm was beginning to become a nuisance. She glanced around to see Wyoming, York, and Maine headed toward her. A smirk appeared on her lips. This should be easy. She thought to herself as she shook off the pain in her shoulder once more. She blocked the blows from Maine, flipped backward to gain contact with her foot and York's chin. Then she brought her elbow into Wyoming's ribcage. The three fell around her and all disappeared, almost simultaneously.
Tex sprinted once more she jumped from the highest point of the map, her eyes set on New York beneath her, he was running full speed and clearly not paying attention. She landed on his back, her legs wrapped around his waist, knocking him to his knees as she snapped his neck. He disappeared and she stood, turning to see CT once more. She watched as CT rushed toward her, running side by side with the hologram. Though, this time Tex had paid attention, she could see the tiny blips of blue within the fake Spartan. She brought her fist forward, contacting the freelancer easily with force. Tex stood there, her hand to her shoulder again as she watched CT, the two seemed to stare at each other for a long moment before CT glanced to the clock. Half of a minute left. Plenty of time for a good spar. Tex gave a nod to her comment and rushed forward. The two seemed to dance around, Tex connected blows on CT, and blows were returned. The two seemed to be a blur as they moved around, punching, kicking, jumping, rolling.
At one point Tex cloaked herself and got a good contact with CT's back, sending her forward several feet. Tex then rushed forward and grabbed her by the back of her helmet, just as the buzzer rang through the arena, she slammed CT into the ground with such force that the concrete cracked all around her. "Time. Advantage, Texas." The automated voice spoke. Tex looked down to CT before she brought her hand back up to her shoulder, "Oh, sorry, I didn't hear the timer." She said before she stepped off toward the elevator.
"That was insane!!" Washington exclaimed, "No one beats CT."
"Guess that can change." Tex said bluntly as she looked to the steel and yellow armor of the freelancer.
South came up to her side and jabbed Tex in the shoulder, "Next time, you won't get so lucky." She said, her voice disgruntled. She wasn't one to take a liking to being beaten, especially how Tex had pinned her down and brutally busted her armor to bits.
Tex grit her teeth beneath her helmet as she gripped her shoulder, sparks flew as she stepped forward and leaned against the wall in the back. Freelancers huh....what a joke. She thought as she looked over the large group of Spartans. Quit being weak, Allison. The voice of Omega, or O'Malley as Tex called him, entered her head. Omega was Tex's AI. He was implanted into her armor to make her stronger, more aggressive and dangerous. Clearly it had worked, so far. Tex shook her head, trying to ignore the voice of the AI as the elevator started upward, she hoped she could get some time to heal before the next task at hand.

CT let out a high pitched cry as her body slammed into the ground. Her chest piece cracked in four places, starting at the center and moving to each corner of her body. She laid there for a long moment, her heads-up display flickering over and over. Her visor was cracked down the middle, and her shield had been completely destroyed. She could feel her armor that crinkled inward and crushed her body, breathing was hardly an option. She choked as she tried to breath, a bit of blood splattering the inside of her visor. She heard the last bit of commentary of Tex as she walked away, though muffled by the ringing of her ears.
“Connecticut - come in. Are you okay?” There was a long pause, then a gentle muffled cry as she tried to breathe but only felt a terrible sharp pain. “N-no” she grunted. Everyone had left the arena by now, CT remained sprawled out on the ground. Her eyes filled to the brim with tears. She wasn’t crying about the pain, unbearable as it was, it was something else that bothered her. The nearest emergency door opened and three men ran forward with a stretcher. They lifted her from the concrete and pulled her onto the stretcher. By now everyone stood at the window, glaring down to the flat Arena, where they rolled CT over.
Her chest piece practically fell apart, though one piece stuck in its place. As they carried her out a stream of blood dripped from her blood soaked armor. They rushed her into the Emergency Room and ripped her cracked helmed from her face. She had a shard of glass sticking out from her cheek. Then they began to remove her armor, every inch of her had been covered in her own blood, all leaked from her stomach that had been impaled by her own armor. One of the Medics rushed to the door, which everyone had huddled at – staring in – and shut it roughly.
The Commander rushed Tex and pushed her against the wall. “Don’t you EVER attack after the bell again. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?!” he shoved her and then backed up. His eyes glanced to the room just as a scream filled the air. They just pulled the armor from her chest.. Everyone in the room stared at Texas in awe. The Commander gave a sigh “The rest of training is canceled for today. Everyone return to your barracks. “ He then rushed from the room, headed directly to the directors room.
He slammed open the door and pummeled his fists into the desk, grabbing the director’s attention instantly. “Who the fuck is this Texas person?!” he shouted, his eyes beaming with such fury that it could almost be seen through his visor. The director sighed and glanced to him. “Do you realize she almost killed your best Spartan!?” he shouted and then kicked the chair. The director gave a chuckle “Second best.. now.” Then Commander got pissed, he swung around, the skull of his visor glaring to him. “Why would you bring someone who does not require training.. into a training facility?” he spoke a little more calmly now, but still laced with anger. “The training is not for Tex…Commander, Tex is here to train the Spartans.” He spoke clearly. “That is my job, Director, my job to train them.” Then suddenly the director stood. “If you are here to question my authority then I might as well put Tex as Commander, If you value your position you will Stand down, sir.” The commander then gave a low growl. Why did a pathetic human have power over him? He suddenly turned, his footsteps stomping from the room.
They finished patching CT, and then injecting her with high dose pain killers. They then injected her with another fluid, which would speed up the healing process. “Take her to the chamber.” The Doctor spoke, and then the doors opened. As they rolled the bed out CT flopped her bruised face to the side, looking to the Leaderboard. She was second… the death was not counted, but at this point she would have wanted Death to be a number, rather than a reality. Tex was above her, a good 800 points in the lead. She felt her vision fading, her mind swimming, and she fell asleep as they rolled her along.
They changed her into a black tight suit and placed her in a hydrobolic chamber. They connected a mask to her face, and then dropped her into the chamber. She floated in the center, her eyes closed, slowly breathing through the mask. Here the liquid substance would seep into her and heal her quickly. The Medic stood in front of the chamber, watching CT float. Her body was small, but very muscular, her brown hair floating freely in the chamber. “If she had been anywhere other than the facility.. she would have died..” he spoke.. and then turned from the chamber.

Tex was silent when the Commander slammed her into the wall, her eyes were fixed over his shoulder as the scream burst through the halls, echoing off of the steel that formed the building. She watched as he turned and ran to the room that CT was in. She had caught a glimpse of the broken armor as they had carried her off of the field. She hadn't meant to cause such damage, she didn't know...
"Tex!" A voice broke her thought process. "Why don't you come with us?" York stood before her, Washington to his left and Maine on his right. "I can't believe you did that to CT. She's going to kill you when she regains her strength." He chuckled as he led the group down the hallway. Tex followed silently, she peered into the emergency room, only to catch a glimpse of the gory scene. She had nearly killed CT with such a blow, the impact wasn't even her full strength. She was weak from her injury, from the test. How could she have hurt her so badly? The voice, who was this voice? They had implanted Omega when they had brought her into the project. It was a test from the director. None of the others even had an AI. It was a secret. The strength that Omega gave her, it was awe inspiring. "So...Texas....." York began as they walked into the cafeteria. "How'd you do it?" He grabbed a tray and began to fill it with food. The others followed him suite. "How did you beat CT like that? You have to have a secret. Something."
Tex watched him silently as she piled food onto her tray as well. Spartans patted her on the back as she walked by, congratulating her for her win...for her domination of the previous match. "I don't know." Tex shook her head as she looked to them. They removed their helmets. York had short brown hair and a scar over his left eye. Tex didn't remove her helmet as she sat there, "I didn't know it would hurt her, I didn't hear the buzzer...there should be more of a warning, they can't just shut the re-gen off." She shook her head and stood, walking off quickly in an aimless direction. She wandered the halls, finding her way to the locker room of the barracks. When she pushed the door open she stood in silence as she watched South punch a locker with Tex's name engraved into the name tag. The tag flew off and clattered upon the floor. North and Carolina sat on the bench in the middle of the room, both stared to the woman dressed in black armor.
"How come I get pulled huh? She's already on a mission!" South snapped just before she turned to see what the others were staring at.
Tex stood just a foot away from her now, glaring into her visor. "Pick it up." Tex growled, pointing to her name tag that lay upon the floor. This aggression, this was Omega. She waited for several long silent moments. "I said.....pick it up." Tex shoved South against the locker with her forearm, pressing her into the thin metal.
"Agent Texas." Carolina hummed. She had fallen to third place after that last match. After the beat down that everyone had endured. Now, she had to get it from two above her. Tex turned, she took a step back as she watched South pick up her tag. South shoved it into her chest plate before she stormed from the room. "You're picking a fight with the wrong people." Carolina stood as Tex turned and fixed the plate back to her empty locker. "I don't know what your problem is, but you'd better fix it." Carolina growled before she walked from the room leaving only North.
Tex turned to him just as he stood from the bench. "I uh...I better go....good fight earlier, Texas. You're skilled." He seemed almost nervous as he rushed from the room. She looked around for a moment before she sighed, she moved her arm and sparks flew from her armor once more, she needed a medic. She needed rest. "I can show you around." Washington's voice entered the room. "If you'd like." He added on the end, "CT was supposed to but...since she uh...well...you basically broke her." He laughed slightly, still shocked that anyone had done such a thing to CT. He had thought it impossible. Tex simply gave a nod before she followed him. Washington showed her around the place, showing her to the barracks then to her room. Tex stepped into the room and looked to her empty bed, her empty dresser. She stood there for a long moment before she turned and left, heading toward the emergency room. She stepped in and a medic rushed her, having noted the sparks from her armor. He removed each piece and had her sit upon a table before he began his work. It took what felt like years for him to stitch everything up and get it clean.
Tex finally stepped from the room into the chamber room where she stood outside of CT's Hyperbolic chamber once more. She looked over the freelancer's pummeled body just as the words of the medic entered her ears. He spoke of how she would have died, if anywhere else. Tex winced slightly at this, she had not meant to injure CT so badly, she hadn't meant to injure her at all. She stood there for a long moment before she eventually found her way back to her barracks. It was then that she finally removed her helmet to reveal her short fiery hair. She turned her helmet in her hands to look into the visor, the mirror reflected her green eyes back to her for a moment before she set it upon the desk. She then lay down upon her bed, staring up at the ceiling as her mind raced. "O'Malley..." She muttered as she thought once more of the AI. They had told her he could cause enhanced aggression, though they ensured her that it would be perfect for a soldier such as herself.

They pulled the mask from her limp body, the next morning had come. She had 12 hours in the chamber, enough to heal her and a little more. Back in the day they used to stick old Spartans in the chamber, just to juice up their muscles and bones. She gasped instantly as fresh air hit her lips. “Vital check” one Medic spoke, hovering over her with a light. “Follow the light with your eyes.” He spoke, she did as told. They then took her blood pressure, listened to her breathing. Commander stood in the room, looking over – almost worried like. Finally CT sat upward, she felt brand new. She looked to the Medics and nodded her head, giving a gentle smile. “Thank you” she whispered and then stood from the bed.
She walked past the Commander, her gaze hidden from his glare. She then walked down the corridor and into the locker room, where a spare set of her armor had been placed. She fumbled with the dial and then it popped open. Standing next to her was Carolina, leaning against the locker – staring to her. “First time I’ve ever seen you in civilians” she gave a chuckle and then stepped over. CT stepped in closer to her locker door, letting it cover her tiny body. “Suit makes you a little taller, a little bigger too” she lifted her head to look over the locker. CT ignored her, Carolina had never spoke so nicely to CT before. She didn’t want special pity treatment, not because some nobody came in and ruined her streak. And her body.
“Mm.. another quiet day for CT. Alright, suit yourself. No really, suit yourself.” She gave another laugh. “See you at breakfast Ace.” She gave a wave as she walked away, leaving CT to her privacy. CT sighed and finally got settled in her suit, finally placing her helmet onto her head. She listened to it seal, and then her HUD flickered on. She squeezed her hands together and then shut her locker. She carried herself to the Lunchroom where she suddenly felt her stomach growl in anger. She walked over to the line, standing at the end of it. Once she acquired her plate she carried herself to what was considered her table. A small round table in the corner with only two chairs about it.
She sat down and stared at her food for a long time in plain silence. Then slowly she grasped each side of her helmet and pulled it off, setting it down next to her. Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail, her side bangs falling neatly in place. She then slowly removed her right hand glove, so she could grip the fork. No one dared sit next to her. In the past people would at least say good morning to her, but everyone seemed even more distant than usual. Though the silence never bothered CT anyways. But some sort of looming sadness hovered over CT, and she knew it would only get worse from this point forward. She couldn’t tell if she should be mad… or sad… she knew she shouldn’t feel anything. But each day she felt alone – the closer she came to being human. The closer she began to forget her training, the closer she mustered for some sort of emotion to pleasure her.
She thought being the best would bring her friends, and popularity but it only singled her out and distanced her from the others. She then thought perhaps playing mercy would win that back, but it only made her a coward. There was no winning from this point. Perhaps it was best to have someone else on the top, someone who deserved it.
”She was requested for a reason…”
Since when is a freelancer requested…Why was she requested, what is her purpose here, who the hell is she? What is this Project Freelancer really about…?
CT stabbed at her sausage and shoved it her mouth, her eyebrows squeezing together in deep thought. Who.. the fuck are you Texas?! She seemed to scream it in her head, perhaps it was all over her face. Maybe even on the table a little as she slammed her orange juice down – a small splatter of the sweet orange falling to the table, collecting together to form a small heart. “Hmph”

Tex had eventually fallen asleep. The night passed with ease, no tossing or turning. She woke the next morning to the warm rays of run that filtered into the room. Tex gasped for air as she sat up, she glanced about the room before she pulled her helmet over her head. She smiled as she looked to her shoulder in the mirror, no more sparks, no more pain. She felt rejuvenated, a good nights rest had helped her body recover from the fights the day before. She stepped out into the hall and wandered toward the smell of food. Her stomach seemed to roar within her suit and she placed her hand over her abdomen for a moment before she walked in. "Texas!" York called with a wave from the table. The other two were chowing down next to him, an empty chair had been left. Tex scanned the room, her eyes fell on the troubled expression of CT as she had slammed the juice onto the table. She threw a few eggs and bacon onto her plate before she grabbed two glasses of juice. "Hey Tex! Over here!" Washington grinned to her, his plate empty. "We saved you a spot."
Tex stood still for a moment, her gaze on York, Washington, and Maine. Then she made a straight line to CT, in her lonely corner, at her table that was only meant for two. "I assume no one is sitting here." Tex said before she set her tray down. She stared to her plate of food for a moment before she moved the glass of juice to CT. "Sorry." She spoke before she lifted her helmet from her head, her short red hair fell to the sides of her face. Her emerald eyes didn't make contact with CT before she began eating. She munched on the eggs and bacon, then she buttered her piece of toast before she finally looked up. The Spartans that were in the cafeteria stared in awe. No one dared sit with CT. No one really ever spoke to her. But, here Tex was, she walked right up to her, sat down, and ate, without a care. She didn't even seem nervous. Tex finished through her plate then gave a soft smile before she finished her juice, "I'll see you out there?" She asked before she stood and pulled her helmet back over her head. Kill her, kill all of them. Omega's voice shot through her ears. She faltered in her steps slightly before she left the room.
Tex made her way to the training deck where the Commander stood. He glared to her as everyone else began to arrive for the morning training. "Pistols only today, kids." He chuckled, "You have fifteen minutes before the round begins." He then stepped over to Tex, he shoved her against the wall again, holding her there, "Don't attack after the bell, got it?" He glared down into the mirror of her golden visor. Tex merely gave a nod which caused him to back off. She walked to the table and grabbed two pistols, while everyone else only grabbed one. She worked better with two. Double the shots, double the ammo and speed.
"You gonna bust CT up again?" Carolina asked as she inspected her magnum.
Tex looked to her and shook her head. "That was an accident, it wasn't purposeful." She said, her voice monotonous. It was on purpose all right, tell her you'll kill her first before you kill the others! Tex placed her hand on her helmet and looked away from Carolina, she staggered slightly. Getting used to such a powerful AI would be a problem. Especially because she felt as though he had some form of control over her, as if he wasn't just an aid.
Carolina chuckled slightly, "You could have stopped yourself, Agent Texas." She said before walking away.
Tex stepped into the elevator then as the Commander called them into battle. "Oh, I forgot to mention, no radars." He said as he pressed a few buttons on the control panel. The HUD within each Spartan's helmet then lost the motion tracker, making them blind to anything that they did not see with their own eyes. Tex smirked, this would be perfect for her. Easy kills. Easy shots. Beat downs. Assassinations. It would all be too easy. She crossed her arms as she leaned against the wall. The elevator began it's descent into the training arena. Each Spartan stepped forward onto the blue line, disappearing once more. Tex glanced to CT, "Better luck this time." She said before she disappeared.
Tex reappeared on the newly formed map. It was circular. With a mid point and two levels. She shielded her eyes for a moment as they adjusted to the light. Tex then took off at full speed, just like she always did, her first encounter was with York, whom, like before did not see her. She grabbed a hold of his helmet from behind and ripped him backward, slamming his back into the ground, she then brought the thick steel blade of her dagger into his helmet, causing him to disappear instantly. She stood still for a moment, listening. Footsteps from above. She ran to the lift and flew upward to find an elbow in her chest. She stumbled backward before she pulled her pistols, unloading both clips as she dodged the bullets that flew passed her. Tex ran forward and pummeled the cyan Spartan then, causing Carolina to disappear easily. Tex soon found herself in the middle of the arena, she zoomed in with her pistols, taking Spartans out, one by one, circling herself as she did so. Protecting her back, keeping her eyes peeled for CT.

CT glanced upward when someone took a seat. She was surprised when it was Texas. Her brows relaxed and her hues glanced to the Spartan. And then Tex took off her helmet. She never imagined what she looked under the Helmet. She was nothing like she expected. Soft skin, smooth, pale, fury red hair, a gentle expression. Perhaps she had no idea what Tex would look like under the helmet. Maybe huge.. with dark eyes and almost demonic. No.. Tex was just as she was…. CT gave a soft smile “Don’t worry about it… Tex.” She whispered softly, and then poked at her eggs.
There was something about Tex’s action that removed the nasty taste she had of Tex. Behind her badass armor rest a simple woman just as she. She was even a bit beautiful. She seem to carry herself with dignity, confidence, and strength, all of which CT could learn from. It is what made a Spartan powerful.. their ability to trust themselves. CT then glanced up just as Tex had finished. Should I believe all of this thought? No.. just working myself up. Careful CT.. you don’t know who Tex is.. not yet. CT Then stood and put her helmet back on, and then she left and discarded her tray.
She made her way to the Arena where she caught South glaring at her. South’s visor followed her motions, as if waiting for CT to do something. CT turned her gaze to the table and picked up a single pistol, and a knife. She heard faintly, someone whispering to another. She missed the first half of the sentence but caught the last… “Time to get her back. Find the skull, group and rush her.” Then there was a clattering sound.. the rest of the sentence was lost. CT glanced to Tex and then back to the table. Who was “her”.. was it CT.. or Tex? She slipped the pistol into her holster and then heard the talk between Carolina and Tex. She glanced over just as Tex seem to lose her balance for a moment. Her eyebrow raised behind her helmet and she crossed her arms, eyes watching Tex. The moment passed and she followed the crew into the elevator.
As Tex looked to her and spoke, CT gave a node, simply speaking back “Yeah” and then the game was on. She stepped forward and disappeared onto the map. She quickly put her back against the wall and glanced around the round hallway. Someone peaked their head and she instantly pulled the trigger, headshot. She then ran forward and made a quick turn, glancing right into the middle area. She quickly turned and fired an entire clip on the two Spartans that were running to her. She hid behind the corner, surely Tex heard the shots, and reloaded. She peaked her head around glancing to the warrior in black – destroying the Spartans that rushed her. Her eyes glanced to her Map…no one was coming. Suddenly she heard a loud turkey sound and then all got too silent. From all the way across mid she saw North aiming at Tex. Quickly CT pulled up her gun and fired a shot. The bullet flew right past Tex’s arm, all the way to the other corner of the room and slammed into North’s visor. Instantly North disappeared.
Just as she did that she felt a sudden yank, she fell to the ground to stare up at 5 Spartans glaring over her. They laughed and then fired a shot directly into her helmet. Instantly CT disappeared. “What the fuck?! They didn’t show up on my map!” she shouted as she appeared in a new location. The crew paid no mind to Tex, they rushed down the hallway, calling their Turkey calls to each other. CT grasped her gun and then made a run for it. There was a series of gunshots, almost sounding like a SAW – the entire crew fired at CT. She was gone instantly.
“Fucking fuckers!” She shouted and gripped her pistol as she appeared in a new spot. “Cock sucking fucking…” they had never done this before. Typically Commander did not approve, but it was not against the rules. It was considered Cowardice in the games.. but Director always said.. it would be something you would do in a real life situation, stick together. Commander would respond.. but it is every man for himself, not team battles.. CT had overheard the argument once before.
She died 4 more times as they hunted her down. They had figured the spawn points by now – by killing each other. They were working the system, she could tell. They would give each other kills and spread the deaths out evenly, and then hunt the fuck out of CT so she couldn’t get a single kill. As she hid in a corner she calculated her score. 3 kills..7 deaths. That K/D spread was terrible so far. And there was still 20 minutes left of the game.. only 10 had gone by.
She turned and heard the rumbling footsteps of the crew running. She saw red dots in various spots, but none clumped together.. “God damnit!” she called out and rushed forward, as she turned the corner she ended up looking directly at Tex in the center of the room. “Oh fuck” she glanced back to hear the firing of the crew. She instantly dropped a Decoy to stand in that place and took a leap of faith. She jumped down to the lower floor and rolled to a landing. She instantly dashed into a corner, breathing heavily as she heard the group firing on her Decoy. “The little bitch ran off!” She glanced back to where Tex was…only to find that she was gone. “The entire fucking Project is after me” she huffed through harsh breaths.

Tex caught a glimpse of CT as she was yanked backward, she watched as the five shot rounds into her body, causing her to disappear. She reloaded her pistols and took two of the five out, but, the other three kept running, they didn't seem to be bothered by Tex at all. "What's with these guys..." She muttered. Doesn't matter, just means more kills for you, that'll get you in the lead. Kill them all Tex. Get them while they are distracted. Tex stumbled slightly as Omega seemed to yell at her through her COM system. She let out a growl before she ran forward, instantly cloaking herself. She found the group of five as they met up with CT once more, gunning her down with the SAW. She grasped the black armor of Florida and thrust her knife into his back before she buried her heel into his lumbar spine, sending him forward to disappear. Tex then rushed forward, gunning down two of the others with head shots before she rolled on the floor, shoving one of the remaining two Spartans to his back on the ground. Tex landed a top of him, her hand gripped him tightly around his throat before she brought her knife down into his neck, causing him to disappear instantly. Then she stood and turned to see South retreating in a quick sprint. She let out a growl before she cloaked herself and took off after the Spartan, her eyes glanced to the map, she saw the group clumped back together running toward a single target once more....CT.
Tex was too late though, they had killed CT again, and before she could get to the edge of the map through the other Spartans, she would see the red blip disappear once more. Tex sprinted along and soon found herself staring at CT, the Spartan left a hologram in her wake and leaped down into the lower level of the map. Tex shook her head and turned on her cloaking. She watched as the group of five, seemingly led by South gunned down the hologram. "The little bitch ran off!" One called just before a bullet whizzed through the air and collided with Florida's visor. "Hey where'd that come from!! Come out!!!" Another commanded. "We know you're hiding CT!"
"I'm not CT." A voice came from behind the blue spartan just before his head was ripped back to the side and a knife was dragged across his throat, spilling blood everywhere. Tex had a red glow about her now. The others dropped down to the lower level having caught a glimpse of CT. Tex cloaked herself once more and shot two more down, leaving only South once again.
"You've been on the top for too long, CT." South said aiming the SAW at the Spartan.
"Get down!" Tex growled before she shoved CT behind a pillar. Bullets collided with her armor, breaking her shields, then, she fell to her knees and disappeared. Tex had saved CT. For the moment.
South let out a laugh, "Oh that felt good." She chuckled as she stepped forward toward the spot where CT had been shoved. "Come out CT, quit being a pansy. What's wrong? You don't do well when we all come after you? Hm? I thought you were the best of the best. You should be able to---" The sound of South's shields failing entered the hall, metal dragged against her armor as a knife was slammed into her back.
"Payback's a bitch, and so am I." Tex stated lowly before she shoved South to the ground, she placed her foot on the Spartan's chest. She aimed her magnum and let off a whole clip into South's helmet before she moved to CT. She then simply held out her hand. "Come on." She gave a nod. She grabbed the Spartan's hand and towed her along, knocking other Spartans to the ground in her wake with bullets or melees. After several minutes of rushing around Tex stopped suddenly. What do you think you're doing? She is the enemy. There are no teams, kill her. She stood completely still, if she had not had her helmet on CT would have been able to see her grimace as she fought back the control that Omega fought to have over her. "No." She shook her head just as the buzzer rang.
"Round over. Advantage Texas."
Tex looked up to the leader board and sighed, forty nine kills...most were from trying to get to CT to protect her. Tex glanced to the Spartan then turned and walked to the elevator, she winced again as she felt the AI attempting to take over her conscious. She stumbled slightly as she got onto the elevator. The group of five stared at her then to CT before they began to chatter amongst themselves. Tex exited the elevator once the doors opened and slipped away to the barracks. She rushed into her room and slipped her helmet from her head, she went into the bathroom and splashed the sweat from her brow. Her short red hair flopped about every which way. Allison, stop being weak, there is no excuse for your actions. You defended the enemy. You should have killed her. You should have killed all of them. She winced slightly and shut her eyes tightly for a long moment, pinching the bridge of her nose before she moved and sat on the bed, she pulled her helmet back on as she sat there. She began taking apart her pistols, cleaning the gunpowder from the chambers. Then she pulled her knife from her chest plate holster and began wiping the blood away from the steel blade.

oking to Tex as she disappeared. “W-why?” she whispered and then scrambled back, her pistol in hand. She fired off a clip, two Spartans disappeared to her aim. She then glanced up to see Tex. She reached forward and got to her feet, then suddenly she was following behind Tex. It was almost like slow motion, or like the air in the world disappeared. She fired her gun, smacked another, bullets seem to fly past her, almost as if they had their own mind – to avoid her. CT turned her head to see the crowd behind her. Why was Tex doing this? Why was she toting CT around like a silly rag doll. Why didn’t she just let her sit there. These kills weren’t even real anyways…
”No”
No? No what?”
CT stepped to Tex, holding a hand out as she seem to be fighting something. She couldn’t muster a word, all she saw was Tex glancing to her and walking away. She stood in her place for a long while and then followed, several feet away. They all climbed into the elevator, her gaze looking over the crowd, then slowly lingering on Texas. She watched Tex step away, and then soon enough leave. The room laughed at the leaderboard. “Best I’ve ever done!” She heard through the roar of the group. Her eyes caught Tex leaving the room. She went to follow but some one stepped in front of her, stopping her. Maine grinned and pushed her back with a hand. “So… shit gets real and some big baddy has to come save your hide, huh? Now that’s a real bitch, you guys.” He laughed. A few Spartans circled about and trapped CT in.
“So, top dog has been pounded. We really got out of a lot of fun, you know, since you had your knight in shining shit save you” Maine placed his hands on his hips and laughed. CT grit her teeth and then grasped Maine by the throat. She pushed him against the wall, squeezing his neck, pushing him higher into the air. Maine struggled against her sudden aggression, something CT had never shown before. CT brought back her fist, but then paused. Don’t do this… he’s not worth it… control yourself… Anger is not you.. let it go… CT suddenly let Maine fall to the floor and then walked out of the room.
She walked to the barracks and sat down on her bed. She reached for her Helmet and slipped it off. She then pulled a screwdriver from a small bag under her bed and began to take it apart. She glanced up when she saw Tex step in the room and retreat to her bed. She wanted to say something, but wasn’t sure what. She pulled at a small part of her helmet, and then glanced down to the mechanics. There was a chip placed on the inside of her helmet, where her HUD pack was. She yanked it off and flipped it over, glancing at it. “Fuckers used a Scatter Chip…” she sighed loudly and then put her Helmet back together. “Can’t stand god damn mother fucking cheaters” she stood up in a swift motion and left the room, chip and helmet in hand.
She knocked on the door to the Director’s office, which opened to her call. “Yes?” The Director glanced up from his paperwork. She set the chip down on his table and looked to him, her eyes full of fury. “I was wondering why my Map was not locating near by figures, even those not in cloak. Turns out while in the Hydrobolic chamber my armor was tampered with..” she slid the chip forward. “I do not know who.. but I’d like to know. I expect an investigation..” she spoke and then backed up. The Director smiled at her and nodded “Then I will get right on that..” he nodded for her to leave. CT glanced to the Commander, who stood silent and then walked out of the room..
The Commander closed the door and then glanced to him. “A scatter chip?” he spoke, stepping to the table. The Director gave a nod “I placed it there myself.” He said in a low tone. “I wanted to see how long it would take that brain of hers to function. Worked well.” The Director gave a chuckle. The Commander growled “So you tested her… were you the one who put the others up against her?!” he spoke, grasping the chip. The Director gave a laugh and then flipped through his papers, ignoring the Commander.
CT had stood out side of the door.. Only able to hear a tiny bit of the conversation. “A… test?” She whispered and then she turned from the table. What did she really sign up for? They were testing the Spartans outside of the battlefield, she wasn’t expecting that. What… what are they looking for? For them to not even tell her about that sort of testing.. secrets.. lies.. not even the Commander knew.. She grit her teeth and then walked back to the barracks.
CT walked to her bed and took a seat, slowly putting away her tools. She placed the bag back under her bed and then glanced to Tex. “Mm.. Thanks” she spoke softly, and then she laid down on the bed. Lunch would come next.. and then another training scene. She wondered.. how soon it would be until more realistic missions. Everything had been Every-man-for-themselves. What were they looking for? Soon enough the Team events should come, what would she do then? She rolled her head to the side and glanced to Tex.
Why would they throw us against each other? It is creating so much hatred, so much distrust. Are they purposely toying with everyone? To see who breaks first? What if we are an experiment.. not a project… And what was the purpose of bringing in Texas. Was this all originally about her? There is something different about her… I almost am worried… but not for me.. for her.

Tex watched CT silently as she dug the chip from her helmet. When CT began going on about the scatter chip Tex stopped what she was doing, her brows furrowed beneath the visor of her helmet as she sat there. Would the freelancers purposefully cheat? It was possible. She didn’t know these Spartans well, and if given enough reason, it was entirely possible that they would cheat. Just as they had in her test session, the live ammo…the ammo that could have killed her, if she hadn’t dodged the bullets.
Tex pieced her magnums back together and holstered the guns to her thighs before she placed her knife back into the slot on her chest piece. She then stood and left the room, making a straight line for the locker room. The group had gathered in there, their laughter filled the lockers. “I’ll be out of the red soon if we keep this up.” South said happily as she placed her helmet in her locker.
Maine turned to look to Tex as she walked through the door. “Well, well, well.” He chuckled, “Looks like the savior has decided to show herself. How’s CT? Is she hurt?” He snickered, the others laughed as well.
Though, it was not Maine who got the brunt of Tex’s rage, it was South. Tex stood just inches from her, her gaze boring down into the woman’s eyes. “What is it that you aim to gain from bending the rules?” Tex snapped at her. “A scatter chip? Did you not think someone would find out?”
South watched her for a moment before she let out a laugh, her expression filled with surprise. “If I were you, Agent Texas…I would watch my back.”
Before Tex could react she was ripped backward and slammed into the lockers by Maine. He was much larger than her, and in this position she couldn’t protect herself. She let out a cry as his fists collided with her sides, cracking her armor plating. The giant of a Spartan then brought his fist into Tex’s helmet, square on her visor. She let out a cry as she fell to her knees when he released her. The group chuckled and left the room, leaving her there leaning against the now bent lockers. She stared up at the florescent lighting, her breathing quickened slightly. In this state, her mind became week. It allowed for Omega to finally break through the barrier that Tex had fought so hard to keep up. Ah yes, now we are in business. Let’s see what you can really do, Allison. Omega forced her to stand. Her movements were slightly robotic at first, but then, the motions became fluid. Easy. He walked her back to the barracks and she sat down on the bed. Tex lifted her helmet from her head and gazed to the shattered visor, her nose had a slight bit of blood dripping from it, and her left eye had a bruise forming around it.
Tex tossed her helmet to the bed before she rummaged through her things within the closet. She pressed a button on the side of her cracked chest piece and the armor loosened from her body. She then clipped on a new chest piece and pulled a new helmet over her head. Tex glanced to CT for a long moment, a smirk on her lips beneath the helmet. Without a word the turned on her heel and walked from the room, her armor clanked along the hallway. “Texas.” The commander spoke, his voice low. Tex stopped and looked to him, no words were spoken then as he motioned for her to enter the director’s office.
“Agent Texas.” The director began as the Commander closed the door, leaving the two in the room. “Your skill is just as the Blood Gulch Chronicles suggest.” He smirked up to her, he still held the scatter chip in his hand. “How is Omega treating you?” He eyed her then.
“Couldn’t be better.” Tex responded, Omega still had control over her body.
“Good, good.” The director spun around in his chair to gaze at the leader board, “Remarkably you’re already in first place, CT is falling quickly. No one has even come close to her before.” He looked back to the Spartan before her, his fingers cupped around his chin. “Tell me, do you remember?” He asked then. “Do you remember before?”
Tex stood her ground, she didn’t move for a long moment before she took a step forward. “No.” Her voice lost a bit of the edge. Omega had allowed her to speak once more. “I can’t remember anything from before.”
The director smiled then. They had wiped her memory when they took her in. He knew it would take time, but she would soon forget her previous self. Her files read it all. Her files spoke of who Allison really was. Of who Tex was. But Tex, she didn’t know. She couldn’t remember. “Don’t worry about it Agent, what is important is the task at hand.” He nodded to himself then. “You will be placed in an objective match with a team this next round. I want to see your teamwork. I want to see what you can really do if you’re not just a lone wolf.” He played with a few things on the electronic tablet within his hands. “I want to see Omega.” He smirked before he pressed a button.
Tex tensed then and fell to her knees, a slight glowing red formed about her armor as Omega took over once more. “Of course sir, I won’t let you down.” Omega spoke for Tex once more. The Spartan turned and left the director’s office. The commander stared to her as she silently made her way down the hall. She didn’t stop in the cafeteria for food, no, she walked right passed it toward the training room. Tex stepped into the prepping area. She began practicing on a few of the targets. Hand to hand combat. Marksmanship. Assassinations. Cloaking skill. Soon the Spartans began to gather in the room. A few stared to her, others chattered a bit. South spoke with the group about how Maine had beaten her to a pulp, how easy it had been.
“Alright. This afternoon you will be faced with an objective challenge. Florida, York, South, Texas, you four are on a team. North, Washington, Maine, Connecticut, you four are one a team as well.” The commander spoke, “You will be required to capture the objective, which will be a flag, and deliver it to your base. Florida, York, South, Texas, you are on Blue team. North, Wash, Maine, CT, you four are on Red team. You have fifteen minutes to gather weapons and make your adjustments to your armor.” The commander then stepped down from his podium.
“Great.” South said as she looked to Tex, who glared to her. Tex wasn’t about to be on a team. She wasn’t about to work with South. This would get interesting. “Look, Texas. Don’t do anything funny, you better listen to my orders, and you’d better not fuck this up for us.” South shoved the Spartan.
Tex tensed then as she watched the three walk away from her. She stood there, her hand gripped her magnum tightly, even though Omega was in control, she still fought against him, trying to keep herself from killing any of the freelancers. Even if they did deserve it.

CT climbed from her bed and made her way to the lunch room. She looked around as she sat at her table, wondering if perhaps Tex would sit with her again. The presence on a non hostile seemed nice, comforting for her. But alas, Tex was no where to be found. “Ah shit..” she muttered and tossed her tray to the table, she hadn’t even taken a bite. It was her responsibility to assure Tex was where she should be. Did she get lost? She wondered the halls for a moment until she heard firing echoing in the hallway. “Hm..” she followed the sound to the training room.
She stood for a moment and then slowly walked up next to Tex. “H-hey. Don’t wear yourself out before the game” she spoke, her voice lingering with chipper-ness. Tex didn’t reply, she just continued to shoot. “Must be focused..” she whispered and then stepped back. Something was off… Tex seemed rigid, usually she was very relaxed when firing. She had studied her intensely with the little time they had been together. There was never stiffness, complete and utter control of her weapon… this Tex…she was like a robot, there would be no accurate reaction time… this was amateur.
Can’t keep your balance…shouting No for some odd reason…. Now some sort of robotic nature, rigid and tense. Something is not right.. CT turned when the room began to fill with people. She grasped a DMR and then shoved a Magnum into her holster. She then grasped two sticky grenades and placed them in her holsters on her chest. She gathered with her group and they all linked COM’s. “Alright, who’s our captain?” she spoke, standing before the team. Slowly their armor turned Red, just as the leaderboard listed the two teams.
Maine grunted and looked to CT, then the three walked off, not saying a word. She gave a sigh, her visor glancing over at Tex. I have a good feeling this is going to be a big pain in the ass she walked to the elevator. They all went down and then stepped onto the blue. “Alright! 3 offensive, 1 defense. Defense makes the calls.” She ran forward, but instantly the other three rushed forward, leaving her to stand at the flag.
The arena was rather simple. It was a large round circle, with a path going right through the middle, the most dumb of plans. “Watch for flanks, make calls!” She shouted in the COM. “Shut the fuck up CT” Maine replied and then proceeded to ignore her from the COM Channel. “Fuckers..” she muttered and then she threw a decoy forward, and then she crouched by the flag, hiding from the map. She quickly turned when she heard running. Headshot, directly at South who was trying to solo it.
“Flag obtained : Red Team” Quickly her crew rushed back, but suddenly was shot down, leaving the flag open. CT Rushed forward, tossing a Sticky Grenade, and then snatched the flag. She turned and then ran right into Washington. “Sorry’ he muttered and then punched her in the chest, grabbing the flag and then capping it.
“Red Team Score.”
CT had fell to the ground, but did not die. She slowly stood and then turned, only to get head shot immediately. She then reappeared 5 seconds later at her flag once more. “Damnit boys!” She shouted, but no one replied. She couldn’t hear them over her COM.. they had literally blocked her from the channel. But how? She grunted and then held her position, guarding the flag. She knew better than to leave it.. they didn’t care about defense, they were strickly offensive…

Tex took in a deep breath as she looked to her cobalt blue armor. It wasn't something she cared for. She stepped onto the line after her team only to get shoved ahead by South. "Get in there and shoot Tex." She snapped. Tex pulled both pistols from her holsters and ran forward, she was almost instantly shot down, having been shoved out into the open. When she appeared once again the three had run down the incline of the hill. She pulled the DMR from her back and scoped in, picking them off in succession. She then ran forward just as CT grabbed the grenade. Tex rushed the enemy base. She slammed her fist into Maine, knocking him into the rocks of the walls, she pummeled him until he disappeared before she spun and shot down York, Wash, and finally CT. She grabbed the flag and took off at a sprint, running backward, she shot York and Washington as they reappeared before she ran up her side to her base, scoring.
Tex watched her teammates. She was shoved around. Shot. Betrayed. Her blood began to boil. Each time South shoved her into danger, she became that much closer to killing her. "Never abandon your team." She snapped before she shoved South back at one point, causing someone to gain a head shot on the purple Spartan. Tex crept forward with her magnums pulled. She cloaked herself and waited for Maine to run by. At this point she jumped up and slammed him into the ground, she then took her knife and dove it into his back just below his shoulder. Then she unloaded her eight rounds into the back of his helmet. "You're making this too easy." She said before she rolled to cover once more. Tex used her cloaking to her advantage and crept up to red base once more. She waited until she was on top of them, until CT was alone before she grabbed the flag. Tex paused as she aimed the gun at the Spartan, she seemed to be fighting Omega. But, the trigger pulled several times in succession before she ran to her side of the base, taking out the three once more from behind. She slammed North into the ground and stabbed the base of the flag into his helmet, causing him to disappear immediately. She then sprinted up, making to make another score for her team. Tex was competitive. It was all about the points. All about the win.
South snatched the flag from Tex, shoving her down to the ground and stepping on her back as she ran over her. Tex's armor once more began to glow red. Omega wouldn't stand for this. Tex would have just pummeled South, but Omega...that wasn't in his plans. Tex took out the members of the other team each time they tried to advance until the clock began to click down the final moments. South shoved Tex forward through the gate at the bottom of the hill. Several shots connected with her armor before she slipped behind the rocks once more. She turned and glared to South just as the buzzer rang out Tex tackled the Spartan to the ground. She threw a few punches before she pulled her knife and made to stab down into the helmet.

CT turned her head just as the barrel of Tex’s gun pointed directly at her visor. “No mercy” she whispered, and then fell backwards as the shots slammed into her head. She reappeared, gun in hand. “Alright.. fuckers…” she grunted and then pulled her gun closer. She tossed her decoy to run down the mid, then she sprinted as fast as she could as she heard firing going down. She pulled her DMR up and headshot Florida, she then shoved her gun on her back and yanked her magnum out. She headshot York with the gun and then leaped forward, rolling out of the way of a shooting. She then ran up to south and fired the gun directly behind her head, all while yanking a sticky from her chest. She gave a simple toss, just enough for it to stick onto Tex’s thigh. She quickly grasped the flag and fired directly forward – taking Maine out. She dropped a decoy and jumped as high as she could. Being so small she had an advantage, while her armor looked heavy – it was actually much lighter than the typical set. While she always looked funny, she chose this particular set of armor for a reason.
She landed and stabbed the flag into its position and then turned. With the DMR she unloaded an entire clip, taking out York, Florida and South within seconds of each other. Triple-kill. She suddenly fell to the side as Maine began to slam his fist into her. CT Grunted, pulling her hands up to guard her, she kneed him in the gut and then quickly rolled, all while slapping a sticky grenade on his side. She quickly got up and ran forward, just in time for Maine to explode. It was a tie now…
“Okay CT!” She called to herself and then rushed forward. She deployed her decoy and fired at York. She made a jump and mid air she yanked her pistol out with her other hand and fired both DMR and pistol at Florida. The DMR gave a nasty recoil but she was able to lower his shields, while her Pistol finished the fight. She landed on the ground, her knee hitting the concrete, her foot before her, just as Florida fell to the ground and disappeared. She glanced upward, standing right at the flag. She moved her arm up and fired a headshot right at York, just when he reappeared, without moving her head at all. She was watching Tex.
There was a loud buzzer in the air and then she dropped her guns instantly, rushing forward, she grasped Tex by the shoulder and pushed her over. Her hand instantly yanked the dagger from her hand. “Control yourself Tex!” She shouted, throwing the dagger to the side. She turned, as she landed on her side and looked to Tex who lay right next to her. CT’s visor looked directly at Tex as they lay. “Don’t let it control you” she whispered to her.
