Alden looked to the Princess, he only seemed to nod. “I understand” he spoke and then took a step back. His eyes watched her fingers move to the necklace, clasping it around her necklace. As he exited the room he was bombarded by Alya.. then the Queen. His eyebrows squeezed together and he crossed his arms. “My Queen… with all due respect, allow me to form my own opinion. I will not disregard her actions, but I will not blame her for them either.” He spoke and then headed towards the stairs.
As he turned – Ayla stopped him. “Ayla…” he turned his gaze and then let out a sigh. “Come on” he spoke and waved to her. He lead her outside, to just walk for a moment. Alden brought his arms upward, until his hands clasped over his head, resting slightly. “Do you think she will go after him?” he turned his head, glancing to her. His arms moved down, his hand resting on the hilt of his blade about his hip.
Ayla walked slowly, her steps avoiding the rocks. “Maybe” she spoke softly and then glanced up to the balcony. “I know she liked him, but I don’t know why that much…”
“He saved my life too” Alden spoke and crossed his arms. “This game of politics has made it that much harder to assure her. She is torn between three, tug a war about her mind and heart. Now when things are difficult, she believes everyone’s words are fallacy. It is hard to instill hope in a distrustful heart” he spoke and then gave a sigh. They approached a small stream that snaked its way through the rocks and trees.
“Hope is what people need in times like this, even if they think they don’t want it.” He spoke and then looked to her. He was bred to be a king, everything about him. He had been training to think and act like a king since he was young. He picked up a rock and chunked it – plunked into the water and then disappeared.
**
Eva looked out into the darkness. Her pupils began to feel like they were being squeezed. Her body was growing fatigued. “Make it stop” she whispered and squeezed her fists together. Suddenly an image appeared. Skylar stood in the snow, digging out her little red car. “I’m a god, damnit” she grit her teeth and reached her hand towards his image. The car started and then drove off in a hurry, zipping away.
Eva squeezed her entire body, each muscle starting to shake. From her body a huge burst of purple escaped her. She let out a scream. The entire room squeezed and then exploded in her power, her anger. The darkness instantly disappeared – Eva was falling from a bright blue sky. She opened her eyes and stared forward as the clouds came closer.
She free falled for a long while – as she got closer to the ground she swiftly teleported. Easily she landed, but then her legs crumbled. She fell to her knees and placed her hands on the green grass. Blood leaked from both of her eyes, her nose, and a bit from her ears. The entire world rang in her ears, and it wouldn’t stop. She placed her hands over her ears, but it did nothing.
From inside a huge mansion came running a woman. She stood infront of Eva – but her vision was blurry now. The woman lifted her up and held her cheeks – until Eva could see her.
“Ren” Eva spoke softly and then gripped Ren’s shoulders. Ren’s eyes grew huge, and then she stepped back.
“Who the hell are you?” Ren spoke and drew a small dagger.
“No – I – I’ve read all your books, your picture.. “ she dropped back down and shook her head. “please help me” she whispered.
Ren looked around and then drug her inside. She brought her to the bathroom and helped Eva undress. Ren’s eyes looked over the bind that was about her breasts with a puzzled look. “Who are you dressing as?” she questioned as her hands moved to unwrap it. Revealing Eva’s very purple breasts.
“A prince” Eva gave a broken chuckle. “To save Skylar” she whispered and then she crawled into the hot bath. Ren kneeled over her, a sponge moving over her body, cleaning all of the caked blood on from the battle.
“Did you save her?” Ren whispered, her eyes looking over the Ranger tattoo that was on her forearm…
“Yeah”
*** Alden glanced to Ayla and then gave a sigh. “We should head back…” he waved her forward, his steps leading to the big home…

Skylar pet the horse as it pressed its nose against her palm. She stared into its eyes for a long moment, seeming to search for something. She then looked to Booker as she stared back toward the home. She caught a glimpse of Alden and Ayla as they headed back into the home. “Who do you think deserves my hand?” Skylar asked as she stopped.
Booker looked to her with raised brows. “Princess, I’m not the one to answer that question, I…I only wish to protect you.”
“If you had to choose.” Skylar turned, her eyes burning into him.
“I…uh…” Booker took a step back. “Princess, I’m not very comfortable with this conversation.”
“Neither am I.” Skylar crossed her arms.
“Skylar.” Mavis called from the home. Skylar looked to Booker for a moment longer before she headed into the home. She walked in and followed her father up the stairs to the study. Her mother sat in a chair across the desk from where her father sat. Skylar took the chair next to her mother. It was becoming late in the day by this point, the smell of food baking could be enjoyed throughout the home. “I understand that you are grieving.” Mavis spoke as he stared to his daughter. “I don’t have time to make this easier for you, nor do we have the men to lose looking for Yevon. What we have are three options for your husband before us, the man that will be the future king of our kingdom.”
“Father, I am not a piece in this puzzle, I do not get to choose.” Skylar shook her head. “You and mother already have a choice, I am certain.”
Amara sighed heavily, “Skylar, our kingdom is in danger. We do not have time for you to throw a tantrum.” She spoke. “Your father and I would like to know what you think of the three men.”
“They all will feed you with the words you would like to hear. So what of them do you want to know? If you ask any of the men what they want they will all give you the same answer. It is tiring.” Skylar made to stand but her mother grasped her arm. She looked to Amara. “Mother, I am nothing more than a prize. I learned this even more so with Jasper, what he did.” She looked away. “I will do as I am told. But I do not wish to grow fond of these men until you have made a decision.” She whispered at the end. “What if you choose a different man than I fall in love with? What then?” She pulled her arm then. “Sitting here debating isn’t going to bring Yevon back.”
Mavis grit his teeth. “Skylar…” He called as she stood and left the room.
Amara looked to her husband for a long moment. “She will come around, Mavis.” She shook her head. “There isn’t anything that you and I can say or do to have her understand.”
**
Skylar disappeared into her room, she stood on the balcony most of the day, writing in her journal, trying her best to remember. She wrote Eva Landcaster over and over. “I can’t forget…” She muttered to herself. Yet. The longer it was, the more she wondered if all of this was a dream. She’d tried her magic, and she’d come up empty handed. Why couldn’t she perform her magic? If her memories were correct she should be just as powerful as Eva. Ayla stepped onto the balcony and sat across from her. She stared to the journal for a long moment. “What will you wear to the ball?” Ayla asked.
Skylar looked up, a puzzled expression washed over her face. “What?” She questioned.
“The announcement ceremony, it’s only a few days away. What will you wear?” Ayla gave a gentle smile. “I overheard your father speaking they plan to make the decision soon. Once they’ve made the decision there will be a grand ball. Remember?” Ayla paused, “What will you wear?”
Skylar closed the journal and sighed, “I’m not sure…” She whispered, “I’m sure my mother will have a dress made for the occasion.”
Ayla smiled and gave a nod. “What color?” She asked. “If you were to pick?”
Skylar searched Ayla’s eyes for a long moment, “Blue, but not a bright blue. Not really dark either, just right, just deep enough.” A soft smile curved up the edge of her lips.
Ayla grinned, “I will wear my gorgeous red ball gown.” She giggled. “I’ve been looking forward to wearing it.”
Skylar let out a laugh then, “Oh I see. You look forward to my ball to wear your dress.” She chuckled and shook her head.
Ayla nodded her head. “Of course, outside of the royal balls my life is fairly boring. You’ve been to the business, you know. Chocolate here, mix a few things there. It gets rather repetitive.”
Skylar chuckled once more. “You’re good at it, at least.” She looked to the door as it opened.
“Food is ready, princess.” Booker gave a smile.
Skylar gave a nod and stood. “Thank you, Ayla.” She locked away her journal once again and headed down to dinner. She sat at the table with the princes and looked to her mother and father.
Mavis looked to the men as they were served their food. “Tomorrow we will have yet another challenge for you, a puzzle. I want to see who can complete it with the most proficiency.” He took a bite of food. “Tonight, we celebrate the answers I gained from your testing today.” He raised his glass into the air. “To our kingdom.” The glasses clinked together. “Shall we come back from this and rebuild the kingdom stronger than it has ever been.”
Dinner finished up quickly. Skylar sat on the balcony and shivered slightly. She waited until Ayla was asleep before she changed into her riding gear. She pulled on a cloak and a side bag before she scaled down the fencing that held vines on the side of the home. She crept into the barn and pat the huge Clydesdale horse on his shoulder before she threw a saddle up over him and cinched it down. She then affixed his bridle and climbed onto his back. Skylar pulled her hood up, “Come on boy.” She pat his shoulder. They left the barn and headed down the road toward the next kingdom over. She road for a good hour before she entered the city of Nolis. The streets were lit by flaming lanterns that hung every ten feet. Skylar rode through the city in search of Yevon. She climbed down from her horse and tied him off as she entered a bar. Her cloak still pulled up. She walked up to the barkeep.
The man grinned to her and leaned forward. “What’s a pretty girl like you doing out so late?” He asked as he poured her a glass. “On the house.”
Skylar pulled her journal out, she’d drawn a very accurate picture of Yevon in the journal. “Have you seen this man?” She questioned.
“Ah a missing person.” The barkeep looked to the drawing and then shook his head. “Haven’t seen him.” He then looked to the other men in the bar whom seemed to have their attention on Skylar. “I’d leave if I were you, for your safety.”
Skylar looked to the men and gave a nod, she shoved the journal back into her bag. “Thank you.” She spoke and left. She climbed onto her horse only for a man to grab the reins. Her horse reared which toppled her over its rear. Skylar landed harshly on the ground and scrambled to her feet. She stood and pulled a dagger. “Back off!” She warned him.
The man chuckled as he stepped forward. “Come on beauty.” He chuckled.
Skylar was grabbed from behind by another man. She fought against him. She struggled and stomped on his foot before she brought her elbow into his ribs. She grabbed the reins of her horse then and ran, she clicked her tongue and climbed onto her horse as it began to canter from the city. She looked over her shoulder to see five men standing in the street staring after her. Skylar slowed the horse after a good way into the city. She stopped in front of an inn and climbed down. One more try. She hoped this would give results. Skylar stepped into the inn to see an old man whom looked up to her. “What’s your trouble miss?” He asked.
“Have you seen this man?” She asked and held the image toward him.
The old man stared to the drawing for a long moment. “Can’t say I have, sorry dear. Ye need a room?” He asked.
“No, thank you.” She stepped from the inn, thunder rattled in the distance. Skylar sighed and climbed back onto her horse she began the ride home. The rain began to pour down on her, it was cold, as winter. By the time Skylar reached the cottage her entire body was shaking. She stumbled and fell off of her horse. Her body trembled as she fought to pull his saddle from his back. Her teeth chattered, she was hypothermic.

Eva glanced to Ren, she was the same as she ever was. Eva leaned her head back.. she cared not that she was naked in front of this person. She was exhausted. Ren glanced to her for a moment, the sponge moving over her body. “What happened?” Ren asked, looking to her bloodied body. The water was deep red, the layers seem to continue forever.
Eva chuckled and then let out a sigh. “The Divisi showed up. I pushed the King and Queen to safety and fought them with the soldiers. We fought for… hours. The Divisi aren’t very skilled, they kill easy, but there was so many. We finally got the source of it… a giant black knight stood in my way. When I approached him he placed me into this…” she took in a deep breath. “Loop of darkness. I fell for… I have no idea how long. I couldn’t see anything… after a while my mind began to deceive me”
“You saw things?” Ren spoke, squeezing the sponge out in the water.
“Yeah… I saw Skylar… I saw my home” she turned her head and glanced to Ren. “You would never believe my story, even if I wrote it down for you”
Ren grinned and then nodded. “I bet I would… I’ve read about things, I’ve seen relics, paintings… if you’re talking about magic – I’d be the first person to believe it” she spoke and then drained the water. She stood back up and began to pump more into the tub. It wasn’t warm like before, but it was better than nothing.
“So where is there?” she questioned.
“Not sure, really. It is the Greystoke kingdom, though” Eva spoke, glancing to Ren. “After that darkness.. I ended up here. I have… no idea where I am.. all I have to say is – I’m really glad it is you. It must be fate” Eva chuckled.
Ren smiled and then stood, handing Eva the sponge. She stepped out of the room and returned with a big book full of maps. She flipped through the pages swiftly until she landed on one. “Greystoke…” she placed her finger on the map. “Hah – Across the big pond” she chuckled. “That knight… threw you really far. You are across the entire world” she spoke and then brought the book over. “You’re here – Orlais” she pointed to a huge island to the furthest right. “Your Kingdom is… here” she drug her finger across the map, directly west, then a touch south. “That boat ride will be about 2 months long” she spoke and then leaned back slightly.
Ren thought for a long moment and then looked to her. “Will you be going back?” she questioned.
“I have to…” Eva looked to her, her eyes very serious.
Ren stood up and then shut the book, she thought for a long moment. “Well… I do have a boat” she grinned and then turned. “I have traveled the entire world, only to settle here and write it all down. Over there though… I’ve never been there” she spoke and then set the book down on the sink. “I.. I don’t really know you, but something in my gut says do it. Something tells me a grand story rests in that kingdom… something tells me you’re more than what you say you are”
Eva stared to her and slowly stood from the bath. The red water rolled over her legs, pooling in the tub. “I am” she spoke and then grabbed a towel. She wiped her body down and then wrapped it around me. “I think someone is waiting for you.. over there”
“What’s your name?” Ren spoke.
“Eva Landcaster” she spoke.
Ren’s eyes got big for a moment and then she smiled. “Stories travel seas, you know. You are the ranger, I can see there too” she pointed to the tattoo on Eva’s shoulder. “Your father banned you for stealing a dragon egg… hatching the dragon and printing with it. You became the very first dragon rider. Years later”
“she was killed” Eva whispered and then looked away briefly. The memories of the true Eva flood her. Her love for Brindyl was beyond any other. Ren nodded and then stepped from the room.
“I will contact some men, make yourself at home..”
Eva glanced to Ren as she stepped away. How lucky was it that twice now she had been taken into someone’s home so easily. People of this world were far too nice, far too kind. She had never experienced it like this before…
*** Alden stepped into the dinner room and sat down. He wasn’t very hungry at this hour, his eyes only studied the King, the Queen. They appeared tired, the King hadn’t slept at all. He had stayed up – worrying over his people. The Queen had tended to him… His eyes glanced to the Princess.. to Ayla. He stood from the table once dinner was over, and made his way outside.
Alden sat down on the front porch bench and held his blade in his lap. He ran a cloth over it, cleaning each side. He then turned the blade over and shined the other side as well. He sat out there all night – watching. Evan stepped outside and glanced to him - “Guarding?” he questioned, leaning against the wooden pillar.
“I am” he spoke. “Can’t say if the Divisi will make their way back here. If they do.. I want to be ready” he spoke and then looked back out to the plains. Evan nodded and then stepped back inside, readying himself for bed.
As the night moved on – thick clouds rolled in. Thunder boomed in the distance, flashes came from over the hills in the distance. Alden leaned his head back, his eyes watching the purple lightening stroll across the clouds – it was actually a beautiful sight. He let out a deep sigh, but then suddenly perked up. Something came in the distance – on horseback. Alden gripped his blade and then slowly moved…
Alden followed the horse to the stable, his blade ready. “Stop right there” he held the blade out and stepped forward. As he came closer – his mouth dropped agape. “Princess” he whispered and sheathed his blade. He stepped forward and grasped her as she fell to her knees. He looked around and lifted her into his arms. Quickly he ran into the barn on the side of the house…
The rain pounded on the steel roof. He knew better than to enter the home. Their arrival would surely wake the others up, then Skylar would feel the wrath of her family. He glanced around and found a bundle of horse blankets. Alden picked up the stack and laid one of the blankets down. He helped Skylar so that she lay on the blanket. Then he reached for a second and laid it over her. “We need to get you out of those soak clothes” he pulled his velvet cloak off, it was barely wet, he handed it to her and then proceeded. He took off his shoulder piece and set it down, then he unbuckled his chest piece. Then he pulled his tunic off and handed it to her. “Change into that” he spoke and watched her tremble.
“My lady” he whispered and then shook his head. He moved over and helped her take off of her soaked tunic. She sat now in her bra, he then helped move his shirt over her head, helping her freezing cold hands through the sleeves. “Come on” he whispered and then he wrapped her with his cape. Then he moved the horse blanket to wrap around her, like a burrito. “You’re… crazy”

Skylar was much too cold to fight against Alden. Everything happened so quickly as he helped her into the barn. “N-no I-I…” Her teeth chattered, her body continued to shake. Eventually when he’d gotten her out of her soaked shirt and into his she allowed him to wrap her in the blanket. Skylar trembled and looked to him. “I’m…not…” She spoke, trying to gain back her strength. “N-n-no one b-b-believes…they…don’t have hope.” She focused the best she could. Her skin was pale, her lips took on a bluish color. Hypothermia was nothing to play with. “I have…to try...” She whispered, “I owe him th-that.” Skylar looked to Alden, her brows furrowed. Her eyes fluttered slightly, she was weak from the cold, riding for over an hour in the icy rain. She didn’t have the clothing for it. “Please…don’t tell my father…” She whispered as she moved her fingers shakily. Her hands ached from holding the reins in the freezing rain. Eventually the princess passed out from the cold that her body had endured. She leaned against him in her unconscious state, her face nuzzled into his neck as she slept peacefully. Her body trembled in her sleep as it fought to bring her temperature back up to par.
Skylar woke hours later just before sunrise. She looked to Alden before she gathered her things. She stepped outside into the freezing weather, the rain had turned into snow as the night went on. She scaled up the fencing and slipped back into her room where she changed into her night gown. Skylar’s teeth chattered as she climbed into the bed, soon enough the sun came up over the horizon, marking the next day. Skylar pulled her journal out and wrote of her trip to Nolis. She wrote of the barkeep and the dangerous men, and of the kind old man at the inn. She wrote of her hope. How she wouldn’t allow it to be crushed. She soon rose from the bed and changed into a beautiful red dress, it was a dark maroon color with a frilly skirt. She had Ayla once again tighten the corset. Skylar came down for breakfast with her tiara in place, like nothing happened the night before. She sat down at the breakfast table with everyone and looked to Alden a few times, almost nervous glances. She shouldn’t have allowed herself to be caught so easily. She should have been more careful.
She looked to her plate and poked at her food as her father cleared his throat. “Today I will introduce you each to a puzzle. I have three of the same. You’ll be ranked in order of who finishes first.” He stood, “I will see each of you in the study in two hours. Prepare yourself, this is no simple task.” He stood and left.
Amara stood and looked to the men. “You all are doing very well. I wanted to thank you again for your bravery during the attack.” She nodded her head before she too left the room.
Skylar glanced to Alden once again before she stood from the table, “I wish you all luck in your challenge today.” She spoke and bowed her head before she left the room. She slipped up to her bedroom where she stared to the snowy world outside, the flakes still fell on the balcony, piling up. There was nearly a foot of snow now. She placed her hand against the cold glass and sighed softly.

Alden relaxed when Skylar fell into his arms. “I won’t..” he whispered. He brushed her hair with his hand, caressing her until she fell asleep. He laid on his side, spooning her as she slept peacefully, though her body still shook slightly. Alden shut his eyes then - the heavy rain pounded on the roof…
When morning came he was alone – Alden sat up, and groaned. He glanced to his tunic, which lay on the ground – folded neatly. He pulled it over his chest, thought it was slightly damp – and very cold. He pulled his armor back on and then stood. “Damn..” he cursed and placed his hand on his lower back, it ached from laying on just a small layer of hay.
He made his way to door of the barn, he peeked his head out and then slipped out, unseen. He made his way to the front door of the home and was stopped by Evan. “You alright?” Evan spoke as he carried a bundle of wood into the house.
“Yeah – Just out for a walk.. couldn’t sleep much last night” he spoke and then followed him inside. He made his way to the table and sat down. His eyes were full of exhaustion, his body ached slightly. At one point his eyes made contact with Skylar – it was a sort of cold and hard stare. Quickly he found something else to look at, and before he knew it breakfast was over.
***
Eva had passed out on the bed… she couldn’t remember even getting there. Only that she woke up in it. She was in a pair of pajamas, her clothes had been cleaned and folded neatly at the end of the bed. Eva stood infront of the mirror – her hair had grown at least an inch in the previous night. Her fingers reached up and touched her hair, and then slipped away. Curious..
She changed clothes and then stepped out into the hallway. The scent of food lingered in the house, all she had to do was follow it. The hallway was long, there were several rooms. The home was actually quite huge, she wondered just how rich Ren was… Eva came to the kitchen and smiled when Ren stood, a mug in her hand.
“Good morning” she spoke and handed a mug to Eva.
“This is all you” she held the mug up – pointing to the home.
Ren chuckled and nodded “I am a very successful author, I even own a few restaurants based on my titles” she nodded and then sat down at the table. Ren had made biscuits and gravy, with extra bacon. “Dig in” she spoke and then picked up her fork. Eva sat down and began to eat – she was starving, that was to say the least. She dug in swiftly and her plate was gone quickly. “More?” Ren laughed and filled her plate again. Eva chuckled and then continued to eat…
Before she knew it she stood on the deck of Flotsam. This was something she had only dreamed about. It was exactly as the stories depicted it. “If only she could really fly” Eva spoke as her hands touched the rails. Ren laughed and took hold of the wheel. She had hired several men to work the rigs, and they went to work right away.
“It is still the fatest in the sea!” Ren called out. She wore a white long sleeve tunic, tucked into a pair of tight black leather pants. She fit the role very well. Ren pulled the wheel and the ship let off. Eva stepped across the deck – standing on the starboard, watching the city disappear as they head out. Once they beat the waves and got over the main currents, she handed the boat to another man. Ren approached Eva and looked out to the horizon.
“We will slip through the Dead Man’s pass”
“The one in the story – where you lost the demon by – “
“Drawing the water upward, bottoming out his ship” Ren laughed and nodded. “Yeah, that one.. then we will cut down the West Coast. At the halfway part we will cross the ocean, that will be the dangerous part” she spoke and then nodded. “Keep a good eye on the skies, any clouds and you tell someone. We will be moving fast, a storm can sneak up on us easily” she spoke and then she stepped to the main mast. She scaled up the ropes and then sat in her nest. It was almost exactly like the books…

The next few weeks were filled with challenges for the princes. Skylar began to grow fond of Alden, no matter how much she fought it. Though, she didn’t give up her search for Yevon. She’d escape every night, sneak from the castle grounds once they returned home. It was dangerous, but, she didn’t care. She felt the need to find him. The day that they returned to the kingdom as the group came up the road, Skylar rushed forward to the sight of a red blade stuck into the cobblestone street. Yevon’s sword. She reached to the hilt and grasped it into her hand. She looked to her father whom nodded to her. Skylar had a custom sheathe made for it to protect it. She even wore it over her back on her escapades through the nearby cities and kingdoms. She’d traveled as far as she could reach in any given single night.
Skylar wrote her adventures into her journal, each night and day. She made sure to try to write all her memories down, begging not to lose who she once was. Pleading not to lose Eva. One night, Skylar was attacked by a bunch of thugs. Her horse reared as she fought against them, she was ripped from the horse back and ended up fleeing into the city before she met back with her horse and ran home. The next morning, she discovered she’d lost the journal. A pit grew in Skylar’s stomach to this discovery. Her memories….
Everything else happened rather quickly. Her father hired one of the best sculptors in all of the kingdoms. In the very place in the city street where Yevon’s sword had stuck into the ground, they erected a sculpture in his name. His honor. The sculpture was of Yevon, standing, his head bowed slightly, looking to his great sword. The sword stuck into the ground, his hand upon the hilt. The blade was made of a red shiny material, it looked much like the real sword, it was nearly a replica. Behind Yevon a few knights stood at the ready, their swords drawn, ready to take on the Divici. The statue became famous, Yevon, became famous for his heroic deed of saving the city.
It was only a month before Mavis announced that Alden would be the prince that was given Skylar’s hand. The grand ball was something worth seeing. Nobles from all across the kingdoms came to celebrate the announcement. Skylar wore a gorgeous dress that her mother had made just for the occasion, a white and deep blue dress. It made her look absolutely stunning. By the end of the night Skylar twirled perfectly with Alden, a smile on her lips. She’d begun to feel for him more than she’d ever thought possible. And with each day, Skylar forgot. With each day she became less distraught over the loss of Yevon. She became less aware of Eva. She forgot who she was in the other worlds, slowly but surely she fully became the Skylar of this world.
The day of the wedding was absolutely gorgeous. The skies were blue for miles all around. It seemed that everything had aligned for the two hearts to be tied together. A huge crowd showed up to see the two wed. The kiss seemed to fill the kingdom with life. The cheers could be heard all across the kingdom.
With that, everything fell into place. The soldiers came from Alden’s kingdom. New recruits were brought in, trained by Alden himself. Skylar would watch him on the training grounds, she’d bring him cold lemonade during the few warm days. She’d bring hot tea on the icy days. She’d come to love him. It was something that Amara wanted more than anything else it seemed, her daughter’s happiness.
Two months passed with ease. The kingdom was rebuilt, stronger than ever. The castle was completely fixed from the attack, and repaired to be stronger than before. The city walls were expanded out to include the home one the far outskirts. A double walled system so to speak. Even the family that had taken Eva in were protected now by the great army that Mavis and Alden brought into power.
Everything was going exactly as planned…
It was the night of a ball. Skylar wore a masquerade mask. She was dressed in a beautiful black dress with red accents. Her mask was that of a raven. She was stunning. The ball was to celebrate the kingdom, to celebrate life, and to honor those lives lost two months prior to all of this. Nobles from the entire kingdom came. The ballroom was packed. Skylar smiled as she twirled around with several partners until she found herself in Alden’s arms. She leaned into him and smiled up to him lovingly. “My king.” She spoke and giggled playfully as he dipped her toward the floor.
“Shhh it’s a masquerade, love.” He chuckled as he passed her off to another.
Eventually Skylar grew tired and found herself out on the balcony, sipping from a champagne glass. She looked down over the city a smile on her lips. Alden followed her out and hugged his arm around her gently. “Are you alright?” He asked caringly.
“Yes, just getting some fresh air. Go on inside, I’ll be right in.” She smiled and kissed him on the lips for a moment before she allowed him to slip away. Skylar turned and glanced to her kingdom again, a few flakes of snow had begun to fall from the sky. She shivered slightly before she took another sip of her champagne.

The trip was long, at first Eva did not enjoy the constant bobbing, but then it became part of her. Soon enough she didn’t even realize the ship was moving. As they went through dead mans pass Ren pointed out the very spot that she detailed the scene. Eva shut her eyes as Ren explained the fight. How the Demon was coming close and closer, she had rose her hand into the air – gripping the water until it formed a hug ball in the air. And then it flew away in a hurry, the ship sinking into the mud, they escaped just in time.
Eva’s eyes opened and the world had changed. A halogram appeared before her – the huge ball of water floating the air. Eva’s magic was working off of her imagination, her ability to conjure images to manipulate the world. Ren stared to her with large eyes – “you” she whispered and then took a step back.
“Ren – please” Eva held her hands out. “Please” she lowered them and bowed her head.
Ren looked to her and then let out a deep sigh. “If you wanted to kill me, it would be done… “ it was then that Eva told her everything. Not quite… everything. She demonstrated her teleporting ability… how she was banished from her home, and joined the Rangers. She used her powers for good. She was tipped off that Jasper was part of the Divisi, and that was when she crossed dressed, to save Skylar from him. Then her counterpart showed up.. the black knight… she explained how she was trapped in a vortex of darkness, a loop of constant falling. How the Black Knight knew she would escape, and would be waiting for her.
“He played you” Ren spoke, a pen to a note book – she was writing down notes of Eva’s story.
“Yes he did.. he knew I would emerge angry, it would make his game more fun…” Eva spoke, her elbows leaning against the rails… Ren glanced to Eva, she could see the pain in her eyes. “The thing is… I’ve been chasing Skylar my whole life…” she whispered. Ren lifted her head and then bit her lip.
“It sounds like theres a part of the story you aren’t telling me” Ren whispered. Eva glanced her way… and then looked back out to the waters. She said nothing…
Ren and Eva had become two peas in a pod. Eva trained Ren how to use a sword – a little better than she already could. They would stay up late drinking, sharing stories and laughing. Ren had become such a grand friend. “The best part about these waters” Eva spoke, a mug in her hand. She took a sip of the beer and then laughed. “There is no bull shit to distract you, you know?” she took another sip.
Ren smiled, her cheeks pink as can be. “Yes, I do. It is just you.. me, the sea.” She took another sip and then stood. “We –“ she wobbled slightly and then grinned. “We will find this Skylar of yours” she spoke and held her glass up. “We will kick that black knight’s ass, eh?”
There was only one rough patch in the trip. They came across a storm amongst the great expanse. Ren stood at her wheel – eyes glaring to the darkened sky. She watched each wave, tacking through them with precision. The waves were huge, one smacked the side of the ship - a great bit of water collapsed onto the deck in a foamy rage. “Eva!” she shouted. “Grab that line!” she pointed. Eva fought against the hard winds, the cold water beating against her body – she nabbed the line and pulled on it tightly. “Tie it off! As tight as you can!” she shouted. Eva pulled hard, the large sail grew tight and the ship caught air. It jumped over an entire wave and landed in a buoyant spring. Eva tied the line off and stumbled slightly, falling over.
She slid across the deck as the ship was tilted. She slammed against the railing and cried out. The ship tilted further and further, until suddenly it was erect. One of the sailors grabbed her and lifted her up. “Come on!” he shouted and then he handed her another line. They both pulled at it tightly, the ship continued on with speed…
The following day was quiet. Eva rest in the hull below, exhausted from her first storm. Ren had stayed up all night, ensuring that the storm was long gone… It was not the worst, but not the best storm that they rolled through…
“Landdddd hoooeee!” Ren called out loudly. The men cheered – Eva came running to the deck, smiling as the sun beamed to the port. Eva held her arm up and cheered with them. They docked and tied the boat off. Ren stood next to Eva, both with bags on their back. “I’m coming with you, Eva” She smiled and tucked her notebook into the side pocket of her bag. “Your story is my next book” she spoke and then pat her back.
Ren paid for two horses, as well as two swords and a crossbow for herself. Eva kindly accepted the sword, seeing as her red sword had disappeared in the events… She strapped the sword to her back and then climbed onto the horse. They snapped the reigns and were off…
They rode for about 3 days before coming upon a small city. Ren stood in the center of the town, the map unfolded in her hands. “We are here…. Your castle is… here” she plopped her finger on the map and then nodded. “looks about half a day, then we can sleep on a nice comfortable bed, huh?” she chuckled and then turned. Ren’s eyes spied to the ground – where a leather bound book hid by the bushes. She stepped over and picked up the book.. flipping to the first page… “Eva” she waved her over. Eva stepped over to Ren, a sausage dog in her hand. She glanced over and then squeezed her brows together. She slipped the book from Ren’s hands.
“Skylar” she whispered and then looked to Ren with glossy eyes. She pushed the notebook into her bag and then jumped onto her horse.
“Wait up!” Ren spoke and then leaped onto her own, snapping the reigns to follow Eva. They galloped swiftly – making it to the castle just by sunset. As they approached the gates – two guards stopped them. “State your business”
Eva leaped from her horse and approached the knight. Her hair was long, a chocolate brown with a hint of red. Parts of it was braided and then pulled into a half pony tail, the other half lay in waves about her chest and back. She bowed her head and then looked to Ren. “I am Eva of Landcaster, this is Ren – “
“Landcaster, you are here on behalf of Yevon?” the guard spoke, bowing his head instantly.
“Mm..” She glanced to Ren – who nodded to her. “Yes.. I am..” she spoke softly.
“Please, Eva, right this way. You are right in time for the Masquerade – at the castle, please” he opened the gates and they trotted right into the kingdom. Eva walked her horse all the way to the castle – where they were placed into the stable by stable hand. She looked to the huge statue in the middle of the road.
“Is that you?” Ren whispered as she approached.
“Y-yeah” Eva replied and glanced to the huge red sword… her red cloak.. the longer she stood there – the sooner it would become apparent that they were one of the same. Eva pulled her red cloak off and folded it up, sticking it into her bag. “Come on Ren” she waved her to the castle.
At the entrance they were handed two masks, they always had some ready for those who forgot… Ren pulled her mask on, it had several glittery feathers that came off the sides. She chuckled and then nodded. “Okay, you find your girl. I will meet you at your statue when the night is over… Good luck Eva”
Eva glanced to the castle – to the balcony. ‘Her hide away spot as Ayla called it… Eva teleported in an instant, as quiet as the shadows. Eva set Skylar’s notebook down directly on her hand.
“You left something” she spoke softly, her voice was her own – not the deeper manly voice that she had before. “Skylar…” she had a mask on, it was a simple red and white mask, nothing too fancy with it. Her eyes looked to Skylar, and then she removed the mask… holding it in her hand.

Skylar took in a quick breath as she looked down to the leather book, she’d lost it a month ago, a little more than that. She lifted her eyes to Eva as she removed her mask. Skylar stared to her for a long moment, “I…” She took in a breath as she looked over Eva’s features. The curves of her face were familiar. Her eyes familiar. “I’m that obvious?” She let out a soft chuckle. She then looked to the book and took it. “I thank you.” She searched Eva’s eyes for a long moment. “Who…are you?” She asked then. “You look terribly familiar, I….”
“Skylar.” Alden stepped out onto the balcony. He looked to Eva for a moment. “My apologies, my wife is needed inside.” He took her arm and escorted her into the ballroom. Skylar and Alden stepped up onto the stage with Mavis and Amara.
“Good Evening Noble Ladies and Gentlemen. We thank you for coming to this ball, a celebration of how far we have come in such a short time.” Mavis spoke. He stood in front of the crowd and rose his glass. “Soon it will be the reign of Alden and Skylar Windsor over this kingdom. They will bring much prosperity and happiness to this land.” He paused for the crowd to cheer.
“What is that?” Alden asked and pointed to the journal as Mavis continued to speak.
Skylar looked to the journal, it was tattered from the weather. “It’s my journal. That woman on the balcony, she found it.” She whispered.
Mavis gave a grin, “Lords and Ladies, it has been brought to my attention by the royal guard that we have a special guest tonight. The sister of the man we owe all of this to. The man who saved our city when it was nearly impossible to save. Yevon Landcaster. His sister Eva Landcaster is here tonight.” He looked out into the crowd. “Please, everyone feel free to do as we have here on stage, remove your masks and greet your partner.” He smiled as he watched the crowd and listened to their chatter. “Amara, I would love a dance with you.” He stepped down from the stage and into the middle of the room, followed by his lovely wife as they began to dance.
“Eva…” Skylar’s eyes stared into the crowd, a few memories rushed through her mind. The kiss stuck rather well. She searched the crowd. “Eva…” She spoke again, she blinked several times, more memories. Skylar pulled her hand from Alden’s and rushed from the stage. She slipped through the crowd quickly as everyone danced about. She found herself standing before Eva then. She stared into her eyes, “Eva…” She gripped her hand and pulled her from the ballroom. She pulled her through the castle quickly and towed her into the library. Skylar turned around and hugged her arms around Eva. She pulled back her eyes welled with tears. “I…thought I lost you…Eva…I….It’s so hard to remember…I…” She opened the journal, where she’d written everything she could. “Everything is slipping away…” She then stepped forward and pressed her lips to Eva’s for a long moment, her breath caught in her chest her pulse raced. “Eva…I…” A few tears rolled over her cheeks.

Eva glanced to Skylar, her eyes brimming with tears a she heard the word – “wife”. Her Skylar was disappearing. Why? She turned around swiftly as Skylar left the balcony. She gripped the railing, her knuckles turning white. “Why have you done this?” she grit her teeth and then shut her eyes. She remembered the demon, satan? The devil? Who ever… he wanted to stop this, ruin it. She remembered Lucille saying that most gods don’t work together like we did, and that we would be the next generation. Did this threaten him? So he had to split them up somehow? Make Skylar forget… fall inlove with some other man, and rip Eva’s heart right out of her chest.
Eva turned around and Ayla stood, glancing to her. “Is that you?” Ayla questioned, stepping over. “Yevon?” she whispered. She brought her hand up to Eva’s cheek. “It is” Ayla whispered and then smiled brightly. “My mind must be making this up – you.. you’re dead”
“You think I could be killed so easily?” Eva whispered and her hand came over hers.
“You’re… a woman though” Ayla chuckled and then covered her mouth. “I was attracted to you” she blushed and then laughed.
“I had to do what needed to be done… I was tracking the Divisi, I knew Jasper was a bad guy.. I “ then Eva laughed. “My breasts still hurt” she chuckled and then faced away.
“I bet… you do have um…” then Ayla laughed again. “What is your name then?” Ayla questioned, stepping over.
“Eva!” Ren spoke as she stepped onto the balcony. Ren handed her a glass of wine and then nodded her head to Ayla.
“Ayla – meet Ren, the one and only. My savior, who helped me get here” she held her hand out to Ren. Eva grinned the moment she saw Ayla’s face light up.
“Ren – as in the author, Ren?” Ayla turned and faced her, smiling brightly…
Eva nodded and then slipped away. She glanced up as she was introduced. She slipped behind a man, trying to stay out of eyesight. Suddenly she felt a jerk and was yanked out of the room, their steps rushed to the library. “Sky” she whispered as the door shut. Skylar jumped into arms, and their lips instantly met. Eva kissed her passionately. When the kiss broke – Eva moved her hands to her waist and then pulled her back in for another deep kiss. After a moment she stepped back, her hands about Skylar’s curves. “It’s okay..” Eva whispered and brushed her cheek with her thumb. “The god of Evil doesn’t want us together, he is making this happen. Threatened by us because we kick ass as a team” Eva grinned and then pressed her hand to her chest. “We have to unlock your powers, whatever is blocking them – maybe using them in this world will help you retain your memories..” she moved her hand back up to Skylars cheek. She kissed her lovingly – mid kiss there was a knock on the door.
Eva stepped back swiftly and stepped off to the side. The door opened and Mavis stepped in. “Skylar… and Eva.. is it?” Mavis stepped forward and bowed his head. “I understand you are here in the name of your brother – “
“My King” Eva spoke and bowed her head. “Actually… I have something to tell you. Important” she paused and then let out a deep sigh. “I am Yevon. My real name is Eva, I am not a Prince… I’m actually a Princess. I was banished by my father years ago and I ended up joining the Rangers. I had been tracking down the Divisi for a few months, I knew Jasper was part of them. So I had to do what I had to do.. I couldn’t come barging in as a no body, screaming that Jasper was evil. I had to sneak in, protect the Princess, and reveal the truth naturally…” Eva crossed her arms and looked to the King.
Mavis froze for a moment and then he let out a deep sigh. “I knew Yevon seemed a little small..” he gave a grin and then nodded. “Normally I would punish you for lying to the King… but you are right. You saved my Kingdom and despite the measures, I am in your debt… Please. Enjoy the ball, we have much to discuss after..” he sighed softly, his eyes looking to Skylar… he lead them back to the ball then. “I will have much fun announcing this” he let out a grunt and then slipped into the mess of people that danced.
Eva glanced over to Ayla – who was happily conversing with Ren, wine in her hand. The two were smiling wide, blushing and staring to each other. Eva turned her gaze to Alden who stepped up. “My love” he bowed his head to Skylar and then glanced to Eva. “You must be Eva.. I am very sorry about your brother.. he made a great sacrifice. I am in his debt” Alden bowed his head deeply and then held his hand out to Skylar. “Shall we?”
Eva stared to Alden with cold eyes and then turned around, stepping away from the two. She brought her fingers to her lips – where she could still feel Skylar’s. Something about it all filled her with rage, jealousy. This man had swept up from under her, taken the only thing that made her life worth living…

Skylar took a few steps back from Eva just before Mavis came into the room. She looked to Eva, trying to find more of her memories. She then looked to her father as he led them back into the ballroom. She looked to Eva for a moment, “I’ve tried.” She whispered. Skylar looked to Alden as he stepped up, she gave a faint smile. She glanced to Eva as she took his hand. “We can meet later, Eva. We must. Find me at The Wild Sage Tavern. For now, I must go. My apologies.” Her voice had a hidden sadness in it, she’d spoken this into Eva’s ear just before she was pulled away. What if she forgot again? What if she lost Eva? She kept her eyes on Eva as she was pulled into the crowd. Eventually her line of sight lost Eva behind the bodies and heads of the other attendees. Skylar turned her attention to Alden, she leaned into him and lay her head against his chest for a moment before he twirled her out as the music picked up. They danced well together. They’d had a lot of practice over the past two months. Skylar allowed herself to smile as she danced with her husband.
Alden pulled her in close after a good while of dancing, several songs had come and gone. He grinned to her and kissed her then for a moment before he searched her eyes. “It opened up an old wound, didn’t it?” He asked, as he brushed her hair from her eyes. “Are you feeling alright my love?”
Skylar gave a soft smile, “I am well.” She shook her head. “She just has a lot of his features is all. No need to worry, Alden.” She kissed his cheek then. The rest of the ball was filled with drinking and dancing. By the end of the night Skylar’s cheeks were pink from the amount of wine Alden had given her. His arm was wrapped gently around her waist as they stood once again upon the stage.
Mavis grinned to the two for a moment as he looked out over the crowd. “Lords and Ladies, it has been an honor to celebrate with you. Though, the night is growing old. Soon enough, we will have ourselves another ball. Tomorrow is the beginning of the harvest festival. The snow came early this year, but we managed to save the crops early on. With the help of Prince Windsor.” He smiled and pat the man’s shoulder. “If you see the princess, Eva Landcaster, thank her for her brother’s service. Good night everyone.”
Skylar hugged onto Alden’s arm as they stood there. She stepped down from the stage with him and said her goodbyes to her guests before they headed off toward the royal chambers. She clumsily climbed the steps and made her way into her room. Alden kissed her for a moment before he let her move to the balcony.
Skylar stared out over the city. She couldn’t lose Eva. She had the journal in her hands in that moment. She flipped through the pages, she looked through the drawings and her own handwriting. She hardly recognized the things within these pages. “It’s cold out here.” Alden spoke as he gently wrapped his arm around her. “Come on. I’ve heated a pot of hot water to keep our feet warm tonight.” He kissed her cheek.
Skylar resisted against him, “Alden.” She spoke and stared into his eyes. “I need to speak with Eva.”
“Tomorrow seems to be a more fitting day, does it not?” He looked to her with a bit of confusion. When Skylar didn’t budge he gave a soft sigh. “I know you all too well to know better than to tell you no, my love.” He kissed her forehead. “Go on then.” He nodded. “Would you like to go alone?”
Skylar nodded, “Yes, I’ll be going alone.” She spoke, she searched his eyes a moment and leaned up for a kiss before she turned and undressed herself. She changed into her riding gear and slipped on her velvety dark blue cloak.
“You look beautiful.” He spoke as he helped her bring her hood up. “Be safe, Sky.”
Skylar gave a nod as she slipped her journal into her side bag and slipped from the room. She made her way through the castle quickly. She’d had enough practice to escape the halls with ease. She sprinted through the courtyard and to the stables where she threw the saddle on her horse Midnight and off they were. The clatter of his hooves against the cobblestone streets echoed like thunder of a storm. The snow was beginning to fall more quickly now, it was sticking to the ground and piling up quickly. Skylar rode through the kingdom and to the edge of the town where she slowed outside the Wild Sage Tavern.
Skylar tied off Midnight and headed inside. It was a beautiful tavern with cobblestone walls that arched into a rounded ceiling. Huge barrels of ales and wines. Skylar kept her cloak up as she approached the bar as she searched about the room, looking for any sign of Eva. She looked to the stairs that led up to the bedrooms. No. She wouldn’t be there. Skylar looked to all of the people who sat in the bar, the sound of their chatter was rather loud, some yelled with joy, others were passed out in the corners of the room. Skylar sat down at the bar and ordered a drink, she kept her cloak up and sipped from the frothy beer. It was something she enjoyed very much, and only got to have every so often. She was expected to drink wine…such is the life of a princess. She ran her finger around the rim of the glass as she focused on not forgetting. She couldn’t forget Eva. That kiss. Her warmth. She couldn’t allow herself to forget again…

Eva eyed Skylar as she spoke – Wild Sage Tavern Inn. She watched as Skylar stepped away, Alden’s eyes peering to Eva for one last second. She turned then and made her way to Ren, who stood next to Ayla. Ayla paused and then smiled “A pleasure” she spoke, her glass in the air. Eva moved her gaze to Ren and then leaned in, whispering in her ear. After a second, Ren glanced to her and nodded…
Eva then slipped away from the ballroom, she handed her mask back to the woman at the front door. “Thanks” she spoke quietly and then stepped out of the castle. She walked to the statue, her eyes staring to the man, the knights behind her. She grit her teeth and then moved away. When she glanced up – she saw the Knight standing in the darkness. His red eyes glowed through his black helmet, he held his sword in his hands – the tip of it pushed into the dirt. Eva shoved forward – just when she did… he disappeared. Eva moved her hand from the hilt of her blade and then looked around quickly, searching for the Knight…
Ren came from the castle, approaching Eva. “Hey, you okay? You left in a hurry” she spoke, placing her hand on Eva’s shoulder. Eva turned her gaze and then gave a sigh.
“Yeah… I guess” she shook her head.
“What happened in there?” Ren spoke, her cheeks still rosy from her wine.
“Skylar… she…hmph. It’s nothing, nothing I can control” Eva spoke and then moved away. “I saw that knight, for a brief second…. That fucker Is taunting me…” she spoke and then moved into the city. They walked the streets until they came across the inn. She entered and set a few golden coins at the bartender.
“I’d like to rent a room please” Eva spoke and stood before the bar. The bartender looked to the coins and nodded.
“How many nights?”
“I’m not sure yet” she then sat down.
The Bartender reached behind the counter and handed her a key that was ‘8’ Room 8… he then nodded and poured her a glass of beer. “Looks like you need this” he spoke and sat the ale down.
Eva took the glass and held it up, tilting the glass to him, she took a sip. She let out a deep sigh and then leaned back in her seat.
“You did what you wanted, didn’t you? To protect her, right?” Ren spoke, glancing to her. “It sounds like there is more to this than you’ve told me” Ren held her hand up for a drink.
Eva glanced to her and then chuckled. “You’re right… I haven’t.. but I can’t tell you…” she shook her head.
Ren laughed and nodded “Whatever you say” she held the glass to her lips and took a sip.
After a while Ren and Eva stepped upstairs, checking out their room. Eva stood before the mirror, a bucket of fresh water on the table. She cupped her hands into the bucket and then rubbed her face, cleaning up a bit. She lifted her head – water dripping from her nose and chin – and then she rubbed her face with a towel.
She looked to Ren – who had fallen asleep in the bed… Eva stepped to the door and prodded down the stairs, back to the bar. Her buzz was beginning to fade, she honestly wanted it to last longer…. As she came down the stairs she spied Skylar sitting at the bar, a mug in her hand. Eva let out a sigh and then slowly approached.
“I’m surprised they let you out” she chuckled and sat down next to Skylar. She glanced to her for a long moment but then she felt a sudden pain her chest, a pit of darkness filling in her stomach. “Everything we’ve been through… it’s gone” she whispered and shook her head. “I don’t even know where to start” she whispered.
Suddenly there was a crashing sound – glass breaking. Bodies came flooding the room, swords drawn. “Damnit” Eva cursed and then drew her blade, she held her arm over Skylar, protecting her. As they came forward – she attacked. She lifted her stool and threw it towards a crowd of Divisi. She placed her foot on the bar and then pushed. She flew into the air, her leg swinging as she twisted her body into a round house kick. She slammed down on a Divisi and twisted her arms, her blade moving easily through 3 bodies in a row.
Eva brought her sword back up and then shifted to the side. In a moment she threw her body infront of Skylar – taking a slash to the chest. She cried out as her blood spilled to the ground. She gripped her chest and instantly felt another slash to her rib cage. “Why” She gripped her fists and then suddenly every Divisi was sliced into two – their bodies sliding apart and falling to the ground in a thud. 10 Eva’s stood, and then they disappeared.
Eva fell to the ground, holding her hand to her chest where blood flowed over her hands. Ren came from down the stairs – gasping as she saw Eva. She rushed over and pulled her coat off, she tied the arms around Eva and pulled it as tightly as she could. Ren glanced to Skylar and grit her teeth. “You need to go” she spoke roughly. A knight stood from the corner of the room, he had battled his own Divisi. “My lady” he hesitated. “I will guide you home…” he spoke holding his hand out to her. “I shall not speak a word of this” he promised.
Eva leaned into Ren, her vision growing hazy… she felt like the world was floating and fading in and out. She weezed and then her head rolled backward. Ren’s eyes panicked and she tried to lift Eva, but she was not strong enough. “Damnit” Ren called out. In an instant the bar tended lifted Eva into his arms. “This way” he spoke, his voice was brute and rough around the edges. He led the crew to a small house – to where he knew a doctor. “Bennet, open up!” the bartender called, pounding the door.
In an instant the door opened a frail man looked to the bartender, he hurried them. “Set her down here” he pointed to a small cot. He quickly moved a sheet over it and peeled the coat off of Eva. “Oh dear” he instantly gathered a few things. He peeled her vest off and viewed the second cut. Instantly he began to clean the wound with alcohol, a needle in his hand. “What happened?” he questioned as he threaded the needle into her slice…

I’m surprised they let you out. Skylar looked to the sound of Eva’s voice, her lips curved upward in a smile and she let out a soft chuckle. “Alden knows better than to tell me no.” Her smile fell when Eva mentioned that everything they’d worked toward was gone. She looked down, her finger traced along the edge of her mug. Skylar didn’t know what to say back. She knew it was true. She knew that Eva knew more about her…who she was, than she did. Skylar could only remember glimpses and it seemed with each day those glimpses became something of the past that she read like a fiction novel in her journal.
When the Divici came storming in through the double doors, the windows. Skylar was instantly on her feet. She took in a quick breath as her eyes looked to the dark armor of the Divici, blood splashed to the floor as they easily killed drunken patrons. Skylar drew her dagger and jabbed it upward through the opening beneath the helmet of a Divici soldier, blood gushed from the wound as he choked on his blood. She stared to him as he fell to his knees. In the next moment, she turned and gripped onto Eva’s shoulders as she shielded her from the attack. Skylar’s eyes widened as she fell to her knees, holding onto Eva, her breaths shook, tears welled in her eyes. She didn’t have the slightest idea of what to do. She looked up as the remaining Divici were sliced into two, their bodies falling to the floor. Skylar looked to Ren as she approached and tied her coat around Eva to slow the bleeding. “Eva….” Skylar finally whispered, her voice was trembling.
You need to go.
Skylar brought her eyes from Eva up to Ren, her face full of fear. “N-no I…” She shook her head and took a step forward. Her eyes turned to the knight that held his hand out to her. “I…” She looked back to Eva as the bartender lifted her lifeless body into his arms.
“Princess.” The knight spoke again. He gently took her hand, “Come on.” He pulled her from the bar.
Skylar looked over her shoulder to Ren’s back as they took off in separate directions. She swallowed as she tried to control her fear, her pulse still rushed within her chest. “You won’t tell?” She questioned softly.
The knight looked to her and took in a deep breath, “I won’t, princess, you have my word.” He gave a nod.
Skylar gave a nod and was silent as they walked through the empty streets of the city. A few bodies lay in the streets…the Divici had ripped through the city, straight to the tavern. Right to Eva. Skylar shuddered, the dark armor seemed to be like a black abyss, it didn’t even reflect light off it. It seemed to suck any bit of life away. That was the Divici in short. They killed, or took what you had. There was no alternative. Skylar turned as she heard the clatter of hoof beats behind her. Her horse came trotting up and bobbed its head to her. Skylar paused as she looked to the soldier, he nodded to her and helped her up on her horse before he grabbed the reins and led her the rest of the way to the castle. Once they were at the stables Skylar slipped from her horse and looked to the knight. “Thank you.” She nodded to him.
“Of course, princess.” He bowed his head. “I am here for your protection.” He took a step back.
Skylar nodded and headed toward the castle. She heard a harsh crack and turned to look over her shoulder. She turned in just enough time to see the Knight topple to the ground, his neck was deformed, broken. Skylar brought her eyes up to look at a Divici soldier. His eyes glowed red from within his dark armor. Skylar took a step back as he drew his blade. She spun and took off in a sprint as she pulled her dagger. She wasn’t very well versed in fighting, not like the Skylar that Eva knew. His hand grabbed at her bicep and his knee slammed into her back, this knocked her off balance. In the next moment Skylar was on her back, the blade of her enemy slashed against her arm. Skylar let out a cry, a loud scream that echoed through the castle grounds. The soldier chuckled, he looked up as knights ran toward her. He then turned and ran off into the shadows. Booker rushed to her side and knelt next to her. “Princess.” He spoke as he helped her to her feet. “Go after him!!” He called out the order to the other knights as they rushed in.
Skylar stared to Booker as tears rolled down her cheeks. The next moments were a blur. Skylar was led into the castle and rushed to Dr. Knightley. As Dr. Knightley cleaned up her wound she whimpered, it was a deep cut. “Skylar.” Alden rushed into the room, he wore a silky black robe. He rushed forward, worry washed over his expression. “How…?” He gently grasped her hand as Dr. Knightley continued to work.
“The Tavern…it was attacked…the Divici…they were everywhere…one must have followed us here…he killed the knight that brought me home safe…I…if…I…” Her voice trembled.
Alden gently hugged her. “Shhhh.” He soothed and kissed the top of her head. “You’re safe. I’ve got you.” He looked to the deep cut in her forearm as Dr. Knightley stitched it shut and wrapped gauze around it. “Come.” He scooped her into his arms. “Let’s get you to our room. Hm?” He kissed her forehead as he carried her through the halls. “Corporal Booker.” He spoke. Booker stood at attention. “Double the guard. No one gets in or out of this kingdom.” Booker gave a nod and rushed off. Alden carried Skylar all the way to their quarters and set her gently on the edge of the bed. He carefully wet a rag and began wiping blood from her face, Skylar flinched slightly. “You’re alright.” He gave a gentle smile. “Sky, I can’t let you go out alone again…” He drew his brows together. “It isn’t safe.” He searched her eyes. “We haven’t had an attack in two months…” He shook his head and helped her dress for bed. Skylar had trouble with her arm and whimpered as she moved it.
**
The next morning Alden stood in the meeting room, he moved forward and sat down at the round table as Steiner and Booker came in, followed by the king and queen. “What is the damage Lieutenant?” Mavis asked as he sat down at the table.
Steiner looked to the king a moment and gave a nod. “We lost 10 knights last night, 20 civilians…the Tavern that the princess was at was hit the hardest, it seems this was the focus of the attack. A Divici soldier killed a knight here on castle grounds, and attacked our princess, if she hadn’t cried out for help, she very well may have been dead like the soldier he killed.”
Amara took in a quick breath, “Was my daughter the focus of this attack? Why the tavern?”
“Eva Landcaster was there as well.” Booker chimed in.
“The Divici have been silent, nothing for two months, after the disappearance of Yevon. Yet when his sister shows back up---….” Steiner was stopped by Mavis holding his hand up to silence him.
“Yevon is Eva.” Mavis spoke, he looked around the table for the confusion. “She told me herself at the ball last night. She’d heard that Jasper was part of the Divici and posed as Yevon to get close to my daughter, to protect her.”
“If she is capable of such trickery, what else is she capable of?” Alden chimed in.
Skylar pushed through the door to the room then, she wore a beautiful blue and white dress, her arm was wrapped up still from her injury. She took her place next to Alden. “Eva saved me.” She spoke softly.
“Did she?” Mavis drew his brows together. “Or is that what she would like us to believe?” He gripped his fist tight, “I knew I should have locked her away for telling me of her trickery. For all we know, she was the whole reason for the Divici attack two months ago. They have been silent. Then, the night she is in town, an attack, and not just an attack on our city. An attack on the exact location you were at.” Mavis spoke through grit teeth.
“No.” Skylar drew her brows together.
Alden gripped her hand and shook his head. “Your father is right. What if she claimed this was all Jasper? Yet, Jasper and his father are dead now, we received an apology from the queen. Peace has been made with that kingdom. Yet, on cue Eva comes and as soon as you are vulnerable the Divici attack…” He shook his head.
“You’re not leaving castle grounds.” Mavis looked to her. “You are most certainly not speaking to this traitor.” He then looked to Steiner. “Lieutenant, I want a warrant posted. I want Eva Landcaster brought in alive for questioning. Though, if she gives you too much trouble, or she causes injury to any of our men, kill her.”
“Father!” Skylar stood, her brows pulled together. “This….this isn’t her. You can’t do this.” She ripped her hand from Alden’s grip.
Alden stood and gently lowered her back into her seat. “It is to keep you safe.” He spoke and gave a nod. “My king, I agree. We need to bring her in, as well as the woman she came with to the ball last night. They are both traitors to the kingdom.” He gave a nod.
Steiner looked to the king and then to Alden, finally his eyes fell on Skylar. “A guard will be posted outside the princess’ chambers at all times. Until we bring these two in I will order all my men to be on full alert. I will post signs.”
“I want the people of our kingdom gathered this afternoon in the square I will be delivering a message to them on this tragedy, as well as asking for their aid in bringing these criminals in.”
“Father th--…”
“That is enough, Skylar.” Mavis spoke, his voice stern. He stood, “I will speak to the city in two hours.” He turned and left the room.
Amara stood slowly, she looked to her daughter as Booker and Steiner left. “She caused this to happen to you, she lied to our kingdom about who she was, and now look what has happened. Skylar, we can’t risk it.” She shook her head. She then looked to Alden and gave a gentle smile. “Thank you.” She cupped his cheek. “Do keep her safe.” She spoke before she left the room.
Alden led Skylar back to her chambers where two knights were posted at her door. He took in a deep breath and sighed. “You’ll be safer this way…” He watched her as she paced.
“This wasn’t Eva.” She snapped. “This isn’t anything at all what you’ve made it! All of you!” She shoved him. “You’re creating lies. You’re forcing a lie on her, you’re pouring blood into her hands that was not her own doing. She saved me!” She turned and stepped to her balcony then and let out a shaken breath as she looked down to the city.
Alden stood where he was, his jaw tight. He stared to her for a long moment before he gave a nod. “I’m sorry, Sky.” He spoke, though she didn’t look back to him. He waited for another moment before he left the room to aid the soldiers in preparing their watch posts. They were prepared for war. They had six times as many soldiers as they did two months ago. They were a force to be reckoned with…
Skylar leaned against the balcony, tears welled in her eyes. “This…couldn’t be you…” She shook her head, her lip quivered as she held back the tears. “You saved me…” She muttered. Though, the longer she stood at her balcony and though about the entire situation, the more she began to believe her father and Alden. The more the finger pointed to Eva. The more it became evident that this could have been her...

Eva’s eye’s shot open when the needle pierced her skin. She gripped onto the sheets and grit her teeth. Bennet gave a sigh and pulled the skin together, continuing forward. “This is going to hurt…” he whispered and kept going. Ren hid her gaze and glanced down to her boots, her fingers gripping her knees. “The Divisi stormed in… they wanted to kill Eva.. or maybe Princess Skylar. I’m not sure” Ren spoke and then pulled out her notebook. She instantly began jotting down the details of the event.
“Why?” Bennet questioned as his fingers moved the curved needle. Eva let out a small cry and shook her head to the side.
“She is a Ranger. She is the leader of the operations against the Divisi. She got close to figuring it all out… and then they attacked.”
“A ranger?” Bennet’s eyes grew wide. He reached over to Eva’s ripped sleeve and pulled it up – revealing the large tattoo on her shoulder. He finished the stitching it tied it off. Then he poured more alcohol over the stitches and then he began to wrap her chest.
Eva looked to Ren and then cleared her throat. “I need you to write a letter” Eva whispered. Instantly Ren flipped to a new page and nodded. “Earon, I am in grave danger. I need you to represent me to King Mavis at the Greystoke Kingdom. Please be swift, my life may depend on your arrival, signed Eva Landstar” she then slowly sat up, grunting the entire way.
“Please – “ Bennet began to stop her, but she glanced him a look. Eva stood and then took the note from Ren. She folded the note several times and then cupped it in her hands. She brought her hands up to her lips and blew a gentle stream of hot air onto the letter. Instantly the letter perked up – floating in to the air. Then it shot out of the open window, as fast as can be. Eva then stepped to the doorway and glanced out to the castle.
“Ren…you need to go” Eva spoke, turning her gaze to Ren. She stood in that moment and shook her head.
“Eva, tell me what’s going on?” Ren spoke and then stood next to her. Ren’s eyes searched Eva’s for a long moment, her hand moved up to Eva’s cheek as she looked. Eva’s eyes were dull, she knew what was going to happen. That Knight… that Black knight.. who was he? Eva avoided her gaze and then let out a long drawn sigh.
“The Kingdom will do what they think is right” Eva let out a soft sigh. “They don’t have the full picture. That black knight… I have been played” she whispered and looked to Ren with soft eyes. “You need to go… they will take you too… I cannot risk that” she whispered the last bit.
Ren bit her lower lip and then shook her head. “I can’t” she whispered. “If I run… they will find me. And then I will be extra punished.”
Eva sighed “I can’t protect you once we go in”
“Y-Yes you can” Ren began to panic slightly. “You can blink around, you can take them out. We could just go now – you could teleport us away. Eva..” Ren stepped forward, her hands moving toward Eva’s.
“Ren… If I run, I can never come back. Everything I’ve done is for nothing. I have to stay, I have to hope they will provide a proper trial. If I run, I prove nothing more than what they wish” Eva spoke and then placed her hand on Ren’s cheek. She leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss on Ren’s forehead. “I can’t promise anything” she whispered.
Ren shook her head. “I can’t let you die alone” she whispered, a tear rolling over her lips.
“Ren… you barely know me… please.. don’t give your life up for me” Eva muttered softly.
“There is something about you Eva. You… you are doing what no one else would. I can’t stand idle, I want to partake. I need to be apart of this world that you creating, you are fixing, you – you can’t do this alone.” She gripped onto Eva’s tunic now, pulling at her slightly. Her tears flowed even more now. Eva looked to Ren and then let out a deep sigh, she wrapped her arms around her and pulled her in close for a hug. “If you get hurt… I won’t forgive myself.”
“I know” Ren whispered and buried her face into Eva’s neck.
Eva glanced to the door and let out a sigh. “Here they come…” she whispered and let go of Ren. She slowly stepped forward approaching the crowd of knights who came clattering forward. There was dust in the air from their rapid steps, their hands gripping their swords as they approached. Eva slowly came forward and moved her hand to her sword.
“Don’t move!” Booker shouted, his sword held upward. “You are here by placed under Arrest under warrant by the King himself. Touch that weapon and I’ll drive my sword through your traitorous body” he spat and slowly approached. “Lie down on the ground” he pointed his sword to the ground.
Eva looked to him for a long moment. Her eyes glanced around – the entire place was surrounded by glistening knights, all at the ready. Behind them were archers who held their bows tight. Eva glanced to Ren and then nodded. She slowly moved to the ground, laying on it flat. Booker approached and pointed to Ren “You too” he spoke and then pulled Eva’s sword from her hilt on her back. He tossed the sword to one of the men behind him and then he put his sword away. He reached down and bound Eva’s hands together behind her back, and then yanked her up.
Eva grunted, her stitches ripping to his jerking motion. Blood began to seep through her tunic, her body aching now. She stood and glanced to Ren, who was being tied up as well. “Tie up those two too” Booker spoke – pointing to Bennet and the Bar Keeper.
“No – “
“You admitting to anything, right now?” Booker spoke quickly – his nose inches from Eva’s. “Yevon?” he spat in her face and then shoved her back. “You swooned the Princess, you fucking liar!” he shouted and then shoved Eva forward. “She would have never felt such raging emotions if she had known, known you were a fucking woman! You demonic bitch!” he shouted.
“Booker” A knight spoke. Booker glanced to him and bit his lower lip. Booker grunted and then pulled Eva forward, Ren and the other two behind – tied up in a line. He pulled them along and soon enough they stood in the entrance of the castle. Eva glanced around – her vision shaking slightly. Her eyes fell to the shadows, where a glistening body stood. The Black Knight. He held onto his sword, which pressed into the cobbled ground. He let out a chuckle and watched as Eva was pulled into courtyard.
They made their way to the left, the entrance to the dungeons. Booker soon led them to a cell and opened it – big enough for the four. He looked to Eva and grit his teeth. “I have no love for a liar… and a traitor” he picked Eva up by her throat, lifting her into the air.
“Stop it!” Ren called out. In an instant Booker back handed her, throwing Ren down to the ground.
Eva choked slightly. Then Booker threw one of her hands into the cuff above her, then he shoved his knee against her… chaining the other hand. Her wrists pulled on the chains, her feet dangling inches from the ground. The stretching of her body pulled on her chest, ripping her stitches completely. Eva let out a groan and then bit her lip as Booker stepped back.
“You hurt the woman I love” he whispered and then spit in Eva’s face. He then turned and bound the other three by their ankles, the chains too short for them to reach Eva. Then he slammed the cell gate, locking it into place.
Eva glanced down – her feet were bound too, she was being ripped apart by the wall… She struggled against the chains, but then pulled on them roughly, tightening the grip. She then shoved her rear against the wall, pressuring her body in different areas, giving her chest a break from the pain. It felt like she was being pulled apart by the cut in her chest…
“Eva” Ren whispered. “That note… Earon.. is that the leader of the Rangers?” she whispered.
Eva’s eyes glanced to Ren and she gave a weak nod.

Skylar sat at her desk, a quill in her hand. The black ink dripped onto the page as it hovered there. She pulled her brows together and shook her head. “Eva….you didn’t do this…you wouldn’t…” She whispered. She slammed the quill down causing the ink to bleed into the page. She stared at the splatter for a moment, remembering the night before, the Divici. The Black Knight’s eyes, the red glow, his terrible laughter as he chased her down and slammed her to her back. She looked to her arm that was wrapped carefully, Dr. Knightley had just changed the dressing. Skylar heard shouting from outside. She stood and rushed to the balcony where she saw the knights marching in, they surrounded four people, their hands bound behind their backs. Skylar stared as they came closer into the courtyard. “Eva…” She muttered, she spun around and ran into her room. She grabbed the journal and opened it to a page that Eva had written in. She’d drawn a picture of them on the icy pond, ice skating. She smiled as she ran her fingertips over the sketch.
It was like a moment out of a dream as I skated with you upon that lake, in the early hours of the morning. The moon was upon us, a bit of light snow hit the ground. It was absolutely peaceful as I pressed my lips to yours. The passion behind the kiss is something that I miss, I miss you, Skylar Greystoke.
Skylar’s breath caught in her chest, she shook her head as the memory flooded her mind. She could feel the cold. She could feel Eva’s hands in hers. She slammed the journal shut and shoved it into a drawer. Skylar then spun and ran to her door. “Princess.” A knight turned, his expression puzzled. “Is there something I may do for you?”
“Let me out.” She shoved him to the side and took off in a sprint down the hallway.
“Princess! Stop!” The knight chased after her, his armor clanked as he rushed behind her.
Skylar glanced over her shoulder, she then looked back ahead and pushed herself to run faster. Her heels clicked as she ran down the staircase and out into the courtyard. A few knights chased after her now. She raced to the entrance to the dungeon and shoved Booker harshly as he came through the door. She ran down into the dungeons, the smell of sweat and blood entered her nostrils. She raced along the cells until her eyes caught Eva hanging in the cell. “Eva!” She called as she made it to the cell. She gripped the old bars and gave a tug. “Eva hold on! You didn’t do this…I know it wasn’t you…It can’t be!” She cried as she shook the bars again.
“Princess.” Booker grabbed her and made her take a few steps back. “You shouldn’t be here.” He stared to her. “These people are dangerous, whatever delusions you have, you need to let it go.”
“Corporal.” The King’s voice spoke with authority.
Booker turned and looked to Mavis. “Sir.” He saluted.
Mavis looked to his daughter for a moment and took in a breath, “Why don’t you come along, Skylar, it would do you good to see what happens to traitors in this kingdom.” He paused and looked to Booker, “Bring her.” He nodded as he then gave a nod to a knight that was at his side. The knight unlocked the cell that Eva was in. Mavis stepped forward and cupped Eva’s jaw in his hand, “Come on then.” He stared into her eyes. “You’ll be telling me all of your little secrets, Eva. Or should I call you Yevon?” He questioned as he turned and stepped off. The knight that opened the cell unlocked her cuffs and cuffed her hands and feet into chains before he shoved her forward.
“Father stop this!” Skylar cried, tears in her eyes.
Mavis looked to his daughter as he stepped off and followed the knight that led Eva away. “You’ll learn soon enough, Skylar.” He stepped into the room that he’d used for Jasper. He walked in through the door and helped the knight secure Eva into the chair that was stained in blood.
“Wh-what is this?” Skylar gasped as she looked around the room. She’d never been allowed down here. She didn’t even know it existed.
“This is the room that all truth comes out. The lies are thrown away here.” Mavis spoke as he cupped Eva’s jaw again, he stared into her eyes for a long moment. “I should have locked you up when you confessed to me last night. My daughter would not have been attacked. We would not have lost 30 people of my kingdom. 20 of which were civilians.” He narrowed his brows. “What do you have to say? Hm?” He brought his hand back and threw a harsh hook that connected with her jaw.
“Stop it!!” Skylar rushed forward and shoved her father to the side. She had tears rushing down her cheeks. “Eva…” She breathed, she stared to Eva and pulled at the bonds that held her down.
“Booker.” Mavis spoke as he stepped back toward his daughter. “I don’t want to do this, but restrain her. She needs to see what happens to those that lie and murder in this kingdom. It is not a deed that we view lightly.”
Booker stepped forward and grabbed a hold of Skylar. She fought against him and tried to hit him, only for him to catch her fist and hold onto it. Skylar writhed in his grip and screamed as he forced her to sit down where he cuffed her into a chair. This chair faced Eva. Skylar fought against the bonds. “Princess.” He knelt in front of her. “Please.” He stared to her. “You’re going to hurt yourself.”
“Let me go! Let Eva go! Stop it!” She cried and pulled against the bonds, her skin began to tear, her wrists began to bleed. “Stop this! Father this isn’t what you tell the kingdom! You wouldn’t do this! You can’t do this!” She screamed.
Mavis stepped forward, “Skylar, I do what I must to protect this kingdom. Sometimes, that means I must get my hands dirty.” He searched her eyes before he turned and grabbed a needle filled with a clear fluid. “This will calm you down.” He gave a nod. “I’m sorry.” He whispered before he injected the fluid into her arm.
Skylar took in a sharp breath as the fluid pushed into her body, it burned. She fought against the bonds, screaming for her father to stop. Her cries filled the dungeon. Until, the medication began to take effect. Her muscles began to loosen, her cries faded into whimpers and soon enough she fell silent. Skylar’s eyes glazed over as she stared forward at Eva. Her eyes fluttered slightly as her head relaxed back against the chair. “Pl-please…father…st-stop…” She pleaded. “Eva…didn’t…do this…” She whimpered, tears streamed down her cheeks.
Mavis turned and sighed as he stared to his daughter. He then turned his attention back to Eva. “Now then, feel like telling me what happened?” He asked as he lifted a bar into his hands. “You tell me the truth, you won’t get hurt, Eva. It’s that simple. You’ll get out of here alive so long as you tell me the truth.” He stepped toward her and swung the bar, hitting her across the chest harshly, though he held back, it wasn’t his full force. “That’s only a taste of what will happen. Now then, let’s start with an easy question. Who are you?”
Booker stood next to the princess, he stared at Eva with hateful eyes. He looked to Skylar as she sat there, she couldn’t respond, her body was weakened by the medication. She took in small shaky breaths as tears rolled down her cheeks. “St-stop…” Her voice was barely audible.

Eva glanced to the bars as Skylar came running up. “Skylar” she whispered faintly. “Go.. Skylar… go” she whispered and shook her head slightly. She winced as the Booker entered the cell and pulled her from the chains. She slumped forward in his arms, but then was shoved back. She grit her teeth as Mavis’s hand gripped her jaw, his fingers pressing into her cheeks. She was shoved back after his words and then drug forward.
Eva groaned as she was shoved into the chair, chained in and bound. Her eyes glanced to Skylar and she let out a deep sigh. Her eyes rolled to Mavis as spoke – speaking of the people he lost. She let out a groan as he punched her in the face. Instantly a bruise began to form on her jaw, a red blotchy spot – growing purple by the second. Eva watched as Skylar struggled, there was nothing she could do…
“More men would have died” she spoke, her voice soft. “That night…” she took in a sharp breath.
The king looked to her and shook his head. “You glorified yourself. We built a statue in your name. You… the Hero.” He shook his head. “All lies! You are the one behind these attacks. You- “ he brought the bar to her knees, slamming it down. Eva cried out and shook her head. “You wanted to reign. You knew you could not. You planned those attacks, pinning them on Jasper. Jasper who sat right here… just months ago” he spat. “His blood is on my hands over you!” he shouted and slammed the bar down on her arm.
Eva cried out and shook her head. “His blood is on your hands because he cannot control his dick!” she shouted. “Did you forget that?!” she shouted to him.
Mavis grit his teeth and slammed the bar against her other cheek. Eva cried out, her head flying to the slide. Blood poured into her mouth, and she spit a few pieces of a molar that cracked in her mouth. “Then you come back and what to do you do? Attack again” Mavis got close to her face and then threw the bar down. He stepped over and picked up a jagged knife. He dipped the knife into a bowl full of brown water…
“You have no evidence of these claims” she spat. “I am Eva Landstar. I am a Ranger. I am on your side!” she cried out.
Mavis looked to her and tilted his head. “I contacted your father…. He says this is true. A Princess who was banished from her own kingdom… you have nothing to back you up…” he stepped forward and held the blade up. “The poison of a jelly fish. This will be a very enjoyable slice..” he spoke and drug the knife across her forearm. It created a rip in her skin – where instantly the small cut burned greater than any fire. “High concentration…” he stepped back and dipped the blade. “So tell me. Eva of the dead Kingdom. –“
“I deserve a rightful trail!” Eva spat.
Instantly the King brought the knife to her face, slicing her cheek and jaw. Eva cried out, the swarming of fire filled her body as the poison began to seep in.
“You deserve nothing! You are a rat! I have no proof?! You have no proof!” he shouted and threw down the dagger with rage.
A door opened and then shut. “My King..” a Knight spoke and bowed his head. “Your presence is required um…”
“What is it?!” Mavis shouted. “What could it possibly be?”
“Sir… you… should come see yourself. Please..”
Eva lifted her head and glanced to the Knight. “Eavon” he whispered. The king turned his gaze to Eva and then grit his teeth. He stormed out of the room in an instant.
A giant red dragon stood in the courtyard, his huge claw resting on the large fountain in the center. He turned his gaze towards the King as emerged from the dungeon doors. The dragon had glowing red molten in between its huge spikey scales. Simply the dragon turned its gaze and pointed to his master… Eavon. Eavon stood by the leg of the dragon, he was simply a tiny being next to the huge beast. His entire body filled the courtyard, his tail stretching upward and touching part of the castle’s tower…
Eavon stepped forward – he wore a full leather suit. His leather cloak was tied around his left shoulder, it swayed as he stepped forward. “King Mavis” Eavon spoke. “I am Eavon, Master of the Rangers” he did not bow his head… “I hear that you have my Ranger, Eva, in custody. I would like to discuss her release…” he spoke kindly. His voice was deep, he was well aged. “Eva… is a great asset to my group. As my second hand, I take her life very seriously. You see..” he looked up to the red dragon. “It was Eva who bonded me to my one and only love, Delia, and it is Delia who wishes for Eva’s safety… and I’m not sure if you know anything about Dragons, Sir King, but they get what they want…” he spoke and then held his hand out – pointing to inside the castle.
