Iris melted into Cassandra’s arms for a moment until she returned to cooking. She watched her as she listened. “Warren…” She drew her brows together, thinking. She listened to what Cassandra had to say about him, about her husband…the king…she moved and sat down at the breakfast table. The memories were gone. She shook her head. “I can’t remember any of this.” She muttered and lowered her eyes. She looked to Cassandra, “But I feel…” She sighed softly, “The battle that you have within about my marriage is exactly how I feel, torn…” She examined the ring. It was truly a beautiful ring.
Iris ate her pancakes as she listened to Cassandra speak of the past, of what happened. Dylan. His name. When it came up in conversation she winced slightly as the sounds of the gunshots echoed through her mind. She stood in the snow, her hand held out aimed at the shadowy figure. She pulled the trigger rapidly, until the gun clicked. Then Iris teleported and pulled another figure into her arms. The shadows melted away and she could see Cassandra, she was unconscious. Iris teleported inside, she looked down, her hands were covered in blood. Her side was bleeding. She could feel a sharp pain in her back…
“Poison…” Iris whispered, repeating the word as Cassandra spoke, she drew her brows together. She took another bite of her food. Iris watched Cassandra as she continued, the thought that she could have been cremated had there not been a trial. Was that this vampire’s plan? Had he thought they would cremate her sooner? Was she poisoned?
Iris tilted her head slightly as she listened, as Cassandra said what happened doesn’t matter. She watched her with a soft smile on her lips. “8 months?” She questioned. “It doesn’t feel that way.” She finished off her pancakes then. “At least, what I feel doesn’t seem like 8 months.” She let out a soft laugh.
Iris watched Cassandra as she spoke of when they had fought. She searched her eyes a moment and then looked to the fireplace as it lit aflame. “No.” She shook her head, “I don’t remember…” She took in a breath. “I…I do remember turning you…” She glanced to Cassandra. “I turned you.” She searched her eyes. “To save you…everything is so hazy…” She crossed her arms, “Memories keep flashing before my eyes…” She shook her head. “But…one keeps replaying. I’m pulling the trigger of a gun. The sound is deafening. But I can’t see the face. I can’t see who it is. I unloaded an entire clip into this shadow of a person…then I picked you up…” She stared into the fire. “Is this the Dylan you spoke of? Is that who I killed?” She questioned. “And…what was this trial you spoke of?” She sighed heavily. “I feel like I’ve forgotten everything…” She turned then and looked into Cassandra’s eyes. “At least…I remember you…” She gave a soft smile. She snuggled into her side. “When I woke up…I felt like my lungs were filled with sand, like my body was crushed and reassembled.” She let out a breath. “Three years…” She muttered. “So you lead the Order…” She spoke and then she fell silent as memories flashed before her eyes.
Iris took in a quick breath. She remembered Julian bringing in Cassandra, the night he tried to drink from her. She watched as everything played out. She remembered her playful smile as she toyed with Cassandra. Her frustration when she couldn’t wipe her memory. Iris stared to Julian in the memory and then her eyes fell on her mother, Lucille. She took in a quick breath; her hand had gripped onto Cassandra’s arm. “You were a captive?” She questioned, curious. “Julian…he couldn’t erase your memory…” Iris thought for a long moment. “I remember trying to wipe your memory…the look on your face…” She sat up from snuggling into Cassandra and searched her eyes. “Our paths would have been so different had that night not happened…hm?” She looked back to the fire. “Tell me more.” Iris looked to Cassandra a smile on her lips. “I remember the valley, that memory…” She looked to Cassandra then, her cheeks blushed. “Why do I remember you so well and nothing more?” She searched her eyes. “I suppose, if I were to remember anything, you are certainly the best of the things to remember.” She let out a soft chuckle then.

Cassandra leaned into Iris as they snuggled before the fire, she took in a deep content breath and listened as Iris processed all of this returning knowledge. “Yes” she chuckled “I suppose you could say I was captive, for a bit of time. Though as the truth revealed… as to why Julian couldn’t erase my memory – it became evident that my protection was important. I am thankful your coven valued that, I could of easily become another bank of power…” she smiled weakly. “That danger was looming over me, and your family helped me understand who I am – and eventually who I was to become. Without them… I wouldn’t be where I am now, this is for certain…” she looked to Iris with soft eyes.
“Without you – I wouldn’t be half the person I am… surely. You saved my life numerous times, and introduced an entire new purpose. Not to mention… eternity to answer to that purpose…”she smiled then and nuzzled her shoulder with her head.
“I suppose you remember me most because…well… We have intimate feelings for each other… amongst all the chaos there was always us…” she smiled “We used to sort of … escape off in secrecy and make love, and then just lay in the nude – talking, cuddling… It was the most peaceful moments of my life…” she blushed and then smiled. “I’ve… been loyal to you ever since… not a person could really turn my gaze, not like you do. Your family always joked that you are very seductive, and it’s true – there’s an aura about you that is truly intoxicating… but something tells me we just mesh like that.” She looked to her and then pressed her lips on her forehead.
“You remember the most terrifying moments – shooting Dylan and such… you should equally remember the best moments, yes?” she smiled “it just tells me… that you feel the same way… which is a relief. I suppose amongst your memory loss… that I feared I would be forgotten too. But… in some way or another we would be together, I am sure…” she stroked her shoulder gently, her eyes looking into the dancing flames.
“More stories then?” she thought for a moment. “’Do you remember that you can transform into a wolf? Not a Lycan… it’s different. We came to find out it is called Therianthropy, a rare gene in your bloodline. Specifically because of your close relations with Lycans – your first form was a beautiful black wolf. But.. we learned in your passing that you would have the capability to turn into other creatures as well, I am not sure the limitations but that – that is of of your bloodline…it was activated after you… were unfortunately captured and tortured by Ravus. We came and rescued you.. and the scientist – who was forced to help, is now my second hand in the Order… he is a good man, despite his condition…” she shifted slightly, so she could face Iris better.
“And I – am or… was Dhamphr – half vampire half human, but now… full vampire and half human? Something, I have unique powers, all dealing with the elements… And those with ancient blood – temporarily gain my powers upon drinking them, including you… that was unlocked after you turned me, saving my life…” she smiled then and glanced to the fire. “My abilities have come very far since our last encounter together…next time… I promise I won’t lose you..” she whispered. “I don’t think I can do another day without you, especially now that you are here…” she whispered and pressed her forehead against Iris’s….

Iris smiled as she listened to Cassandra speak. Her voice was soothing, as it always had been. Her eyes softened as Cassandra spoke that Iris had given her purpose. Each thing seemed to circle around to her, she was the glue of the royal family, she’d given Cassandra purpose and saved her. Without that…everything would have fallen apart. She winced slightly at the mentioning of shooting Dylan, the hazy scene played through in her mind again. Then Cassandra spoke of her fear that Iris would have forgotten her. “I don’t think I could forget you, not even if I tried.” She spoke and gave a gentle smile. “Through everything…you feel like an anchor to me amongst this storm, I was afraid when I first woke, I was fearful for my life, confused…if you hadn’t been there…” She shook her head. “I’m not sure what would have happened, to be truthful.”
“A wolf?” Iris asked, her eyes watched the flames dance. She closed her eyes a moment as a memory of her running through the forest at full speed just behind Cassandra flashed before her vision. It was when they were headed to destroy Ravus and his pack. The feeling within her chest was exhilarating. “Therianthrophy…” Iris repeated the word thinking. “That is incredible.” She listened as Cassandra explained her ability to change to different creatures.
Iris’ eyes darkened then at the mentioning of Ravus, she tensed. The memories flooded her of her captivity. Her breathing increased. She gripped onto Cassandra’s leg slightly, her fangs lengthened. All of it flashed before her eyes, she could feel the needles in her body, all of the lines that ran into her, she could feel the injections….
Iris gasped her forehead pressed into Cassandra, her breathing was quick. “Those…memories…” She whispered, her voice trembled slightly. She looked to Cassandra as her eyes slowly turned back to blue, her fangs shortened. “I remember the scientist…I think…” She pondered a moment.
Cassandra went to speak of her condition. Iris listened, her memories flooding through her mind. She remembered sitting at her desk in the late hours of the night. A glass of whiskey sitting before her, a book in hand. She was researching what Cassandra was. She’d glance up and check on her frequently. A shadowed figure sat before her. Iris felt anger boil within her as she stood, she gripped the figure then and threatened him. Peter.
“I researched everything there was to find on your condition.” Iris spoke softly. “You’re the first of your kind.” She remembered. “That’s how we defeated Dylan…” She nodded slightly. “I remember…” She remembered teleporting at quick speed, in front of him, behind him, landing quick blows until she finally pinned him, holding the gun to his head. She could see his face now. There was a pain in her side, something she dismissed. The poison perhaps? Iris had ignored it. Only one thing mattered. She pulled the trigger. The sound of the gun. It still deafened her. The blood from his skull splattered across the ground. “I remember…all I cared about was saving you…” She whispered.
Iris stared into Cassandra’s eyes a long moment, “I’m sorry I was lost.” She whispered. She leaned forward then and kissed Cassandra, passion behind her kiss as she touched her hand to her cheek. “I still feel lost, but you are a beacon in the night for me.” She smiled and caressed her with a soft smile on her lips. She sighed softly and moved to lay in Cassandra’s lap. “You’re so warm.” She spoke as she snuggled into her. She then grinned, her eyes were golden as she looked up to Cassandra. Her instinctual side was more prominent now, her control wasn’t quite what it used to be. Though, it would come with time. She blinked a few times, her eyes changing back to normal. “So, I am a hybrid then?” She asked curiously. “Not just a vampire…”
Iris took in a deep breath as she thought deeply. “Do I have to go back to the king?” She asked, her voice soft. “To the man that is my husband?” She looked sad then. “I don’t know him…I know I don’t love him…” She whispered, “If I had, I would remember, wouldn’t I?” She questioned then.
“Though…I can barely remember my family. When you speak of them it is loving, I can see that. I need to get my memories back, I need to understand what happened to me. Why this happened…” She muttered softly. Iris then looked up to Cassandra, “Then again…” She ran her fingertips along white thin tattoos that ran along Cassandra’s cheeks. “I don’t remember these.” She searched her eyes. “Is it something from the Order?” She questioned.
**
Lucille stood dressed in black, her eyes full of sadness. She turned and was hugged into Sebastian’s chest. “I wish there could have been another way.” He spoke as he held her. “We can finally lay her to rest, respectfully. They way that she deserves.” He kissed the top of her head.
Lucille cried into his chest, clutching onto the black suite that he wore. “It isn’t fair…” She whimpered.
“I know.” Sebastian held her. “I am doing everything I can with Marcus to mend the world, to change things as Iris would have wanted them. To abolish the old rules and bring up a new council that is stronger and more pure that the previous.” His voice was strong, though his eyes held sadness. He was trying to remain strong for his wife.
Lucille shuddered in his arms, her face buried into his chest. “Everything I’ve done in the past three years…nothing feels right without her…nothing will ever replace her…” She sobbed.
“I know.” Sebastian held her, he sighed softly. Nothing he could say ever made this better. Lucille hadn’t been the same since Iris’ death.
A gentle knock came from the door. “The car is ready…” Julian spoke, he was dressed in all black for the occasion as well. They were going to pick up Iris’ remains, as per schedule. “Um…” He was used to walking in on Sebastian holding Lucille.
“Just a minute, Julian. Why don’t you get the king, hm?” Sebastian asked as he held Lucille. “We will be down shortly.” He rest his chin on top of her head as she sobbed.
**
Riskel stood in his room, which he’d turned into a study. He had shelves of books. A map on the table. He was currently looking over a letter. His eyes looked over the words, a troubled expression on his face.
“Something worrying you, my king?” Julian bowed as he entered the room.
“A letter from a king that is quite far away…” Riskel spoke, he shook his head and set the letter down. “I will deal with it when we return from the funeral…Iris deserves to be laid to rest, finally.” He took in a deep breath. “I only wish I hadn’t had to take over the coven like this, to lead as a new king of a coven that is not mine.” He shook his head. “I still wish she were by my side to help guide me…I understand why Warren wanted to be her king, though he loved her, I know this. She was strong, cunning…” He sighed softly. “She would have made an excellent queen…” His voice softened.
“She would have.” Julian spoke, he glanced to the letter. “What was the king asking for?” He questioned.
“He was asking for aid…it seems the southern continent has gone into a bit of a riot, Lycans are fleeing the Order…his coven has been diminished, he only has a few left…I know Sebastian has aimed his sights on the southern continent, it doesn’t follow the laws of the order, vampires still kill for sport, humans are turned and left to figure it out on their own. It is a wasteland compared to what we have now.” He sighed softly. “But, when we return, I will focus on this. Hopefully with the blessing of the council we can gather troops and work with Cassandra and the Order to help tame the southern continent and abolish the Lycans there as she has worked to end them here. I will offer my hand in battle as often as possible if it means a better life for our kind.”
Julian watched Riskel, a smile on his lips. “And I had my doubts at your ability to be a great king.” He chuckled.
Riskel watched him, he chuckled and shook his head. “Sebastian and Lucille have been kind enough to help form me into a worthy king. You too my friend.” He pat his shoulder and smiled. “Come, let’s celebrate the life of Iris.” He stepped from the room. “She would want that…”
Julian nodded as he stepped from the room. “She would, she’d hate to see us beating ourselves up over something I’m sure she made the decision to do. She knew she could die. But she chose to save her coven, her love…over her life, if it meant she had to give it all, Iris was willing and did give it.” They walked downstairs to find Sebastian and a puffy eyed Lucille waiting.
Riskel stepped up and offered a gentle embrace to Lucille. “We will finally be able to set our minds at ease.” He whispered to her.
Lucille held onto him, she’d grown fond of Warren’s little brother over the past three years. He was much like his brother, though he had his own personality which she liked a bit more, he wasn’t afraid to stand his ground, unlike Warren whom had followed along quietly to most orders. The group headed out to the vehicle then and Julian climbed into the driver’s seat. “Has anyone heard from Cass?” Lucille asked softly, her voice sad.
Julian shook his head. “No…not a word…” He spoke softly. “She will be here…I know it…”

Cassandra looked to Iris with soft eyes – they shared a moment of passion. It was if no time had passed at all. Their kiss was as beautiful as the moment they last touched… She smiled and pulled away once the kiss was over – her eyes searching hers. “Don’t apologize… Let’s just be glad you’re here now…” she smiled and then glanced to the clock on the wall.
“You are a hybrid of sorts… more like… born a vampire, but this strain passed down in the family, some where someone had the same – I don’t know much more of it though…” she listened to Iris continue. “Unfortunately… you do, technically. You are Queen… it will be expected that you fill that role… but you and Riskel – you don’t really have a passionate relationship, it’s a mutual benefit, really. Your marriage is not… out of love.” She looked to her and then thought for a moment. “Your father wanted to change this royal charade – he is close, last time we spoke of it… To become a democratic… that is the goal. Perhaps we can help in some way, and you can become free from these chains of royalty, hm? He… always wanted it for you, he knew how much you wanted to do your own thing… we often talked of traveling” she smiled. “I daydreamed so often of it, a little cabin…you and me – a warm hot springs to ourselves…” she grinned then.
Cassandra reached upward and touched her hand – which grazed her tattoos. “Ah… these… A lot… has changed since I took over the Order. They are sort of my markings – that show folks that I am their leader… I stuck with the ashen hair too – which you colored for me. Remember – I used to have red hair?” she smiled and then blinked slowly. “My magic.. changed my eyes too – one yellow… another blue” she pointed and then chuckled. “A bit… has changed… but not much” she slowly then moved from the couch.
“Your family loves you very much. There hasn’t been a day your mother hasn’t cried of her loss – you were her pride and joy, and you both were amazing friends…. Lucille has become more of a mother to me than anyone in my life… Today you were supposed to be cremated… they should be soon to arrive to pick up your ashes… You have a choice to make…” she crossed her arms and thought for a moment.
“Are you ready to see them? Seeing them… will help your memories come back… you need it.” She nodded slowly and then paced slightly. “I am lucky to have seen you first, but they deserve to know you are alive too… we should see them before they wonder what happened, I’m sure that will be a… interesting explanation for Regina…What do you say? I can take us there now…” she held her hand out.

Iris chuckled as she reached up and touched Cassandra’s ashen locks. The memory played through her mind. She grinned. “Ah yes, before the ball.” She spoke, “You were so beautiful in that dress.” Her eyes fell on the rose pin then, and her smile widened, though a hint of sadness was held behind her smile. “That’s mine.” She spoke softly. She hugged herself to Cassandra and chuckled. “I put that in your hair…I remember.” She held onto her for a long moment, she loved the smell of Cassandra, the sound of her heartbeat, the warmth of her being so close. She listened to her as she spoke. “At least….Riskel?...that’s an odd name isn’t it?” She let out a soft chuckle. “At least he and I seem to have an agreement…I wouldn’t want to be forced to be with him…that is going to be on the list of the first thing we should do.” She nodded.
As Cassandra spoke of the cremation she shivered slightly. The thought of it. She could have been burned alive. Then the thought of her mother, the pain her death had caused. “We should see them.” She spoke. “I want to see them…I…” She drew her brows together and let out a slow breath. “I’ll remember them…right?” She searched Cassandra’s eyes. “Just like I am remembering you…just…” She paused a moment, thinking. “Just help me if I look lost…I’m not sure I’ll know what to say to them…and my memory…” She shook her head. “I can’t even think of what my own mother looks like…” She muttered. “We should go.” She nodded and took Cassandra’s hand.
She took in a gasp of air, her head spinning as they teleported. She stumbled slightly and held onto Cassandra for balance. “You…you should warn me before you do that.” Her eyes were golden as she looked into Cassandra’s eyes. She smirked. “I like the two tone color.” She complimented. “You’ll have to tell me how that happened.” She spoke.
“Iris?” Regina asked as she came from the back. “How are you feeling?”
Iris looked to Regina, the moment that they picked up Bran’s ashes flashed before her eyes. She gave a gentle smile. “I feel much better…” She furrowed her brows slightly. “I do apologize for earlier…I….”
“I understand.” Regina spoke, she searched her eyes. “My father and I have been talking.” She spoke, “Just a minute.” She left the room and came back with a small pin. “This was lodged into your side when we first examined you before storing you…” She set it on the desk. The pin was hollow, it could have held a liquid. “My father believes that a serum was in this pin, that is the only explanation for your resurrection…you were put into a state much like our elder Marcus. No heartbeat. No movement. Just darkness for as long as you can remember. Though, Marcus doesn’t lose his memory…so I wonder if something was wrong with the serum, or something added.” She pondered and shook her head.
Iris rolled the tiny pin on the counter, examining it. “I…remember that pain…” She whispered softly. “It was just before I shot him, he clutched onto me, fighting me, trying to break free.”
“I can only bet that he was hoping we would cremate you right away…or…” She shuddered slightly. “Bury you alive…” She swallowed and shook her head. “You’re here now though, thank god, my queen.” She bowed her head. “This is exactly what we need. Riskel has been doing quite the job as a ruler, however with you at his side our coven will be unstoppable. I know it.”
Iris hesitated slightly, she glanced to Cassandra. “I do not wish to be at his side…” She spoke she then crossed her arms. “Do you have any of my clothing from before?” She asked as she looked down to her pajamas. “I want to get changed…”
Regina watched her and nodded. “Of course…we actually cleaned it up…It’s in the back, help yourself.” She glanced to Cassandra. “Her…family should be here soon…will she be alright?” She questioned as Iris stepped into the next room. A room full of clothing that Regina collected, she would clean it out every now and then. “I’m worried about her being overwhelmed like before…” She spoke softly.
**
Iris came out several minutes later. She wore black tight pants and knee high thick leather boots. She had on a black tunic with a dark leather corset that wrapped around her waist, accenting her figure nicely. She wore the pendant that Cassandra had given her. “I remember this.” She smiled, “It saved us, when we fought Ravus….it helped me save you and finish him off.” She grinned. She had her pistol and dagger strapped to her thighs. It was as if nothing happened.
Regina looked to her a long moment. “Come on, you should relax back here, hm?” She led them into a cozy living area of the morgue. It had a huge desk and books along the walls. “I’ll try and figure out the best way to um…tell them…” She spoke and then offered a smile. “I can imagine how overjoyed they will be.” She grinned.
Iris nodded as she looked to a painting on the wall, it was of a beautiful mountain with a lake at its base. “We should go here.” She spoke, her fingertip touching the raised paint from each individual stroke of the paintbrush. “We should travel, as we talked about. See the world. I would like that.” She nodded. She stepped to Cassandra and cupped her cheek, she gazed into her eyes a long moment. “I just want to be at your side. I don’t want to hide anymore.” She shook her head. “What good does it do?” She leaned forward and kissed her gently for a quick second before she turned, she could hear the front door to the morgue open.
**
“Ah Regina.” Sebastian stepped forward he hugged her gently. “Thank you again for this, for all that you’ve done.” He set a bag of coins on the counter, “We are in debt to you.” He then drew in a long breath, Lucille was hugged to his side now, tears welled in her eyes.
Lucille looked to Regina and sniffled. “Did you decorate the urn like I asked, Regina?” She questioned, her voice trembling.
Regina took in a deep breath, “No…but…”
“No?” Lucille asked, her voice quivered. “What do you mean? She…she can’t lay to rest in an improper urn….” She whispered. “Her funeral is tomorrow….we don’t have time for something like this, Regina. Did you…even…do it?” She asked tears fought to roll down her cheeks.
“No…I…”
“Where is she?” Sebastian asked, his eyes watching Regina. “What happened?”
Regina drew her brows together. “You’re going to have to remain calm.” She spoke. “Come with me. Just remember to stay calm, alright?”
“Calm…?” Lucille questioned as the two were led back to the room that Iris and Cassandra stood in. As the doors opened Lucille’s eyes fell on Iris. Her breath caught in her chest. “Iris…?” Her jaw loosened. She ran forward and threw her arms around her. “Iris it is you!” She exclaimed and hugged her tightly. “Oh dear, I’ve missed you, how is this even…” She pulled back and held onto her shoulders, looking her over. She then grinned. “This is a miracle.” She spoke and looked to Cassandra. “When did this happen?”
“This morning…just before I was supposed to…”
“Oh god…” Lucille spoke her eyes looked back to Iris, who was breathing quickly, trying to remain calm as random memories popped into her mind of her and her mother.
Sebastian rushed forward too. He kissed her forehead. “Our prayers were answered.” He grinned as he hugged his arms around the two.
Iris was bombarded with memories, she grit her teeth, her head was spinning the world around her was hazy. She could barely breathe, her pulse pounded within her ears. In her mind she stood with her mother and father on the stage during the ball, her eyes looked out over the crowd of vampires as her father announced his daughter’s hand was up for engagement. Iris stumbled back from them, her fangs grew. She was overwhelmed.
Regina stood, a syringe in hand, ready to help if she needed. “Breathe, Iris.” She spoke, “Deep breaths.” She looked to Cassandra.
Iris leaned against the wall, her fists clenched as she fought the primal side as more memories rushed her. It was like meeting Cassandra when she’d first awakened.

Cassandra chuckled as they came to from the teleport – she held Iris for a long moment and then separated as Regina approached. “She is doing better, memories are coming back…” she nodded. “Her parents – should be here soon, we will have to uh… inform them?” she then looked to Iris – who slipped off to change.
“I will handle it… but she needs to see them – she is struggling to remember, it is harder for her to figure things out with these empty holes in her history…” She then glanced to Iris as she entered the room, she smiled widely – her eyes tracing the clothes about her body.
“Come on” she lead Iris into the other room. She stood behind her and crossed her arms – watching as she touched the painting. “I can sense that soon enough – we will get to travel as we please…. One day” she smiled and then placed her hands about Iris’s waist, kissing her softly in return…
It was then that Cassandra could hear her family – she turned and looked to the door. Lucille rushed forward – she smiled as they reunited… Though swiftly the situation went south – Iris was panicking.
“Careful – she is regaining her memories, it’s a painful process” Cassandra rushed forward and placed her hands on Iris’s shoulders.
“Breath, my love” she whispered to her and cupped her cheek. “Look at me” she caressed her cheek. “I’m here… everything is okay…. I’m not going any where…” she pressed her lips against Iris’s forehead. “Are you with me?” she watched then as Iris’s pupils returned to normal, her breathing relaxed…
“Let’s try again… Lucille, your mother – Sebastian… Julian… and even Riskel is here…” she moved and allowed Iris to observe the room.
“Let’s go at her pace, hm? If she is bombarded – she slips into a sort of… instinctual state…she is processing a lot. I’ve been working with her for a few hours now… I am sorry I didn’t tell you the moment I found out. I felt her heart as soon as it came to – our connection… So I took her to a small cabin to try and acclimate her, otherwise she… almost killed Regina” she chuckled and then sighed softly.
Lucille nodded slowly “It’s okay… I am just glad she is okay, thank you for taking care of her…” she smiled brightly and grasped onto Sebastian’s arm.
“Do you remember them?” she questioned to Iris. “Perhaps we should go to the house in a bit? It could help boost her memory – then we can all… share some stories to help her…” she smiled and placed a hand on Iris’s back. “Does that… sound good?” she questioned, her two-toned eyes glancing to her…

Iris was tense, her body trembled slightly. She gasped for air as she stared to Cassandra. Though an instant sort of calm began to wash over her. She grasped onto Cassandra’s arms holding onto her. Her fangs shortened and her eyes slowly returned to normal. “Th-thank you…” She breathed just before Cassandra went around the room to introduce everyone. She took in their faces, such strangers to her in that moment, yet, some things felt familiar about them. She looked to Cassandra and nodded. “Yes, yes that sounds very nice. I can’t remember what our home looks like…”
Riskel observed her quietly, his eyes looking her over, though a sense of relief washed over him to see his queen alive and breathing before him. Lucille glanced to Cassandra and then back to her daughter her eyes searching over her. “Do you remember us, dear?”
The words, the tone of Lucille’s voice. Iris stared to her, memories rushed through her mind. She was younger in this memory, a child. Iris stood in the garden a rose in her hands. “Mommy!!” She cried as she rushed across the garden. “Look!” She grinned as she came to her mother’s side.
Lucille looked to her with a warm smile, “Yes my dear?” She asked as she knelt down.
“I got this for you mommy, isn’t it beautiful?” She questioned as she held the rose forward.
Lucille chuckled happily, “It would look more beautiful if…” She took it and carefully broke the stem, she gently placed it into Iris’ hair and then smiled. “There, it looks beautiful, Iris.” She kissed her forehead.
Iris giggled happily and hugged herself to her mother’s body. “I love you mommy.” She spoke into her chest.
Iris took in a breath, “Yes…” She breathed. “I…do…I…remember…” She nodded, she stepped forward and hugged her arms around Lucille holding her tightly.
Lucille held back tears of joy. “Oh Iris…” She held onto her. “I’ve missed you…this…is like a dream…I lost you.” She pulled back and held her shoulders. “But you’re here now.” She smiled brightly.
Iris stepped to her father, she looked up to him a gentle smile on her lips, she searched his eyes, “Father.” She spoke, she hugged herself to him and another memory flashed before her eyes. She walked down the aisle of her wedding, her arm wrapped in his. He gave a gentle smile to her and just as he’d stepped away he told her he loved her.
Sebastian held onto his daughter, tears rolled down his own cheeks. “How can this be true?” He questioned and looked to Cassandra. “How is she alive? What has happened to her memory?”
“My father and I think it was a poison…” Regina spoke. “He’s been testing the substance for three years, hoping to figure out what the serum in a pin that was lodged into her side was…but he hasn’t been able to crack it…”
Iris pulled back from her father. She stepped to Julian and looked into his eyes. He smiled as he looked over her. “You look stunning, Iris.” He spoke, “As a queen should.” He chuckled slightly, “I never got used to calling you queen, I’ve always called you princess.”
Iris stepped forward and hugged herself to Julian, he returned the embrace and the memory of them standing on the balcony with idle banter passed through her mind. She remembered laughing with him, challenging him to pick a better meal. That is how he picked Cassandra. She took a step back from him, letting out a long breath, a smile on her lips. Iris then stepped toward Riskel, she looked to him, she looked to the wedding band on his finger. Her husband. She drew her brows together slightly. She lifted her eyes to meet his.
Riskel watched her, “My queen.” He bowed his head. “To have you at my side is truly a wish come true.” He smiled, “You will make an amazing queen. I know it.”
Iris reached forward and took his hand into hers. She examined the band that was around his finger. Though she didn’t speak. She drew her brows together. “I…” She took a step forward and hugged onto him, he wrapped his arms around her. Nothing came. She stepped back and glanced to Cassandra, her eyes confused. “I…” She looked back to him, “I’m sorry I can’t remember you…Riskel…? Right? You…”
“I’m your husband…” Riskel spoke softly. “The king, you are the queen…” He bit his lip slightly. “It’s okay, Iris.” He noticed her eyes had darkened slightly. “I’m not much to remember.” He chuckled, trying to poke fun at the situation.
Iris stepped back from him she shook her head, she remembered that Cassandra said they weren’t in love, that she had married Riskel against her will and that they had more of a business agreement than a relationship. She took in a deep breath. “But I don’t remember anything…” She whispered. “Not even your name if Cassandra hadn’t spoken it.”
Lucille squeezed her shoulders gently. “It’s okay dear.” She spoke and offered a gentle smile. “Your memories will come, I know it.” She then took in a deep breath. “The funeral was arranged to be tomorrow…” She glanced to Sebastian. “How…do we explain this?” She questioned.
Sebastian nodded and looked over his daughter. “I will have to console with Marcus, I will explain the situation, possibly get more answers for us as to her condition…her memories…how she stayed….dead…for so long…” He drew his brows together. “We will figure this out.” He nodded.
Iris stepped to Cassandra and looked to her. “How far is the home?” She asked. “I want to remember…” She looked sad. “I need to…”

Cassandra watched with a heavy heart – Iris unable to remember, or barely holding onto strings of thoughts – images and scenes, she could almost see it flashing before her eyes. She stepped back and watched, wishing she could help even more.
She glanced to Lucille and crossed her arms.. “I can’t say why or how she has come to, but… perhaps I should have Nigel look at this pin?” she looked to Regina, who then nodded. She went off into another room and returned with the empty pin – in a small bag.
“If we cannot crack it – perhaps you can…” she nodded and handed it over. Cassandra took the pin and slipped it away into her pocket. She turned then to Iris – once she finished her conversation with Riskel…
“I will take you home, it is not far… We will meet up with you all?” She questioned.
“Yes… we don’t have room in the car, unfortunately… We will see you there” Lucille spoke and stepped up to Iris - she placed a kiss upon her cheek and nodded, rushing them to the car to head home…
Cassandra lead Iris outside, she pointed to the melting pot – “Remember our dinner?” she questioned and then lead her down the road, walking to the river side. “We kissed here…” she smiled and then crossed her arms slightly. “But you transformed for the first time here – the rest of the evening was not as enjoyable, but every minute before hand was wonderful…” she placed her hands on rails.
She turned then and smiled – “We could recreate some memories?” she chuckled and stepped closer to Iris. She placed her hands on her hips and pulled her close. She hovered for a moment – her lips just over hers, she could taste her warm breath.. She leaned in and kissed her sweetly – allowing the moment to sink into its fullest – before pulling away.
“Come on then… I can take us home. We’ll have about half an hour to get acquainted – before the others arrive?” she nuzzled her gently. “Deep breath, I will take us….”
She teleported once Iris had done so – they stood before the huge mansion. “Your home…” she stepped from her and head toward the door. Cassandra pulled out a key, which was given to her, and unlocked the door. They stepped into the large entry room – which had a set of stairs that led upward, and further doors that continued below.
“We can move slowly… let the memories sink in…” she linked her arm about Iris’s, she stood in the center of the room. “We’ll go to the kitchen next?” she waited a moment, in case Iris had any memories. They walked past the stairs and into the first door – which lead down a hallway that opened up into the dining room, and then the kitchen behind it. The chairs were all in order – everything appeared almost exactly as it did 3 years ago…
“A lot of breakfasts here, Sebastian… Julian – the honorary cooks of the house..” she chuckled and stood before a seat. “This seat was usually yours… and I’d sit across from you. We would googly eye each other all during breakfast” she chuckled. “Sometimes you’d play footsie with me just to watch my cheeks burn. You were a devilish one, for sure” she chuckled and glanced to her. “Do you remember when we first made love? You came and got me icecream?” she chuckled and blushed wildly and then giggled.
“You were my first, well… still am my first” she smiled then and nodded. “Perhaps you can lead me to the bedroom?” she questioned.

Iris followed Cassandra she looked to the lovely restaurant, her eyes looking over the sign. She remembered laughter, feeding Cassandra the piece of bread dipped in cheese. She smiled then as they stepped to the gazebo that overlooked the lake. Iris turned to Cassandra as she spoke, her eyes softened as she spoke of the transformation. Her memories began to rush though her mind. The pain of the transformation. She’d fought it so much. She took in a breath as Cassandra gripped her hips. Her eyes snapped to Cassandra, the golden color searched Cassandra’s eyes, Iris’ pulse raced at her closeness. She let herself melt into the kiss, her arms wrapped around Cassandra’s neck and she leaned into her.
The moment was over too soon it seemed. She bit her lip slightly and nodded as she held a bit more tightly to Cassandra, as if she would get thrown from her during the teleportation. As she took the breath they teleported. Her head spun again. She blinked several times, holding on to Cassandra for balance. “I’m not sure if I will ever get used to that feeling.” She spoke softly. She turned and looked up to the mansion. Her eyes looked over the beautiful structure a moment before they stepped inside.
Iris looked to the grand staircase her eyes moving over it. Memories of her in her childhood running up and down the stairs flashed before her eyes. Then a not so welcomed memory, the memory of her getting shot. She winced as she looked to the wooden floor, the blood was gone, but the memory remained. “The kitchen…” She spoke softly as she followed Cassandra. She glanced about and gave a soft smile as she looked to the pictures and paintings. She stepped through the dining room and sat at the chair that Cassandra told her was hers. She chuckled at the remarks. “I seem to be quite the one to swoon you, don’t I?” She stood as Cassandra spoke of the ice cream. Her cheeks blushed. She opened the refrigerator and stared into it a long moment before she turned to her.
Iris searched her eyes, she didn’t remember that memory…she sighed softly, “Maybe I will remember when we find the bedroom?” She questioned and chuckled. “Ice cream sounds like such a treat.” She winked then, that old playful smile on her lips. She stepped to Cassandra. “Alright, let’s find the bedroom, hm?” She bit her lip slightly.
Iris took Cassandra’s hand into hers. She smiled to her and led her toward the foyer. She looked to the hallway the led downstairs, her pulse increased slightly. Then suddenly she took in a sharp breath. She staggered, her eyes turned black. The memory of Dylan fighting with her crashed through her vision. Her fangs lengthened and she took in quick breaths. She could feel him crushing her. She gripped onto Cassandra’s hand as the memory played out. She stumbled a painful whimper coming from her body. “H…he attacked us….h-here?” She choked out. “In our home….?” Her features melted back, though her eyes remained dark. She took in quick breaths as she fought to calm herself.
Iris closed her eyes a long moment, she’d wrapped her arms around Cassandra, pulling her close, she nuzzled her face into Cassandra’s neck. It took a few minutes, but she finally calmed. Iris pulled back. “Thank you, I’m sorry.” She spoke, she glanced to the stairs. “Upstairs?” She questioned. Iris pulled Cassandra up the stairs, her hold on her hand was gentle. She paused at the top of the stairs, unsure of which was to go. She bit her lip slightly and guessed, she turned to the left and walked down the hallway slowly. She looked to the artwork that hung upon the walls. Soon enough she stopped at a door she stared to it for a moment. She then nodded and turned the handle. She pushed the door open into her room. It was exactly as she had it three years ago. Iris let go of Cassandra’s hand and stepped forward. She touched the posts of the bed, taking in the smooth wood. She looked to a chest that sat on her dresser, it was full of letters addressed to her from Cassandra. Iris looked to the letters a sad smile on her lips. “You wrote me?” She whispered as she looked to the dates that her mother had written.
Iris stepped to her desk, her journal lay on the desk, open to a drawing she’d done of Cassandra, just before her death. She remembered sitting on the couch in the cabin, they had been fighting. But she couldn’t ignore her love…so she drew, in hopes to ease her mind. Iris took in deep breath as she then took Cassandra’s hand. She pulled her toward the bed. “Lay with me.” She spoke as she pulled her down onto the bed with her. Iris closed her eyes, she pulled Cassandra into her chest. She remembered Cassandra hovering over her, offering her blood. Her fingertips curled into the leather material of Cassandra’s clothing as the memory played out. That was their first time together. She remembered it clear as day. It was incredible. Everything about it. She took in a shaken breath. “I remember.” She whispered and then chuckled. She turned and kissed Cassandra then. She grinned to her. “I would have never guessed I was your first.” She stared into Cassandra’s eyes and then smirked. “You are beautiful…” She breathed before she kissed her again, passion in the kiss this time.
Iris shifted suddenly, the sound of a car door. She drew her brows together. “Has it been thirty minutes?” She questioned.

Cassandra blushed and then grinned “You swoon me? Oh… yes you do” she grinned and remembered their night together – how she laid in Iris’s lap – taking each spoonful, completely in the nude, all whilst being caressed by her gentle touch. In the past 3 years – these seductive memories often crept across her mind, and gave her some sort of solace during her lonely nights…
“Let us find the bedroom then” she nodded and followed Iris through the house. She paused as iris did – her eyes watching her reaction – she could sense those memories flooding her. She only hoped it was good ones… though she knew right away she was remembering more thoughts of Dylan.
Cassandra gripped onto Iris, steadying her. “Yes… they had tracked me here previously, so they knew where we were. We knew they were coming – and had begun planning our attack… but he arrived sooner than we expected, and you were still wounded… it was… unfortunate…” she whispered and then turned toward her. Her hands moved around to her back – clasping her as her hand moved up and down her spine slowly… she held Iris as she gathered herself.
“You’re okay…” she kissed her cheek softly and then nodded. “Lets keep going, yes” she followed Iris up the stairs, hand in hand. Cassandra stayed quiet – allowing Iris to choose the right door. She smiled as the correct door opened and they stepped inside…
“Once a month… I wrote to you. It helped me…sort of… but I never moved on. It was like… a part of me wasn’t able to, perhaps because you weren’t actually dead?” she chuckled “but… it felt like telling you everything – giving you an update – made me think you were still around, and one day I’d just come home to you. It made it a little easier…” she crossed her arms and watched as Iris stepped about…
“Oh – “ Cassandra was caught off guard as Iris grasped her hand. She stumbled forward and then crawled onto the bed… Iris guided her, so her head lay on her chest… she smiled as Iris kissed her. “You remember then?” she blushed. “It seemed like it wasn’t my first because I had played those thoughts in my head for weeks prior to the engagement… so…” she chuckled. “I never told you that though, until now. So many times I fell asleep wanting you…” she shook her head and laughed a little harder. “Seems I can be a little more courageous with my thoughts since your departure…” she lifted her body slightly and hovered over her.
“I always loved that… tension just before…” she whispered as she leaned down and kissed her cheek. “A sort of aura that is just… so…” she kissed her ear, lips curling about her earlobe – she kissed sweetly. She could feel Iris squirm slightly. “intoxicating” she whispered even softer. Her lips continued to move against her skin, until they caressed upon her collarbone.
Suddenly Iris shifted – Cassandra could hear them too. Cass moved, sitting upward… she cleared her throat and then blushed. “Kinda like that” she winked and then moved from the bed. “We can… pick up on that later… we should reconvene with your family… you have an entire 200 ish years to catch up on” she held her hand out, helping her from the bed…

Iris had squirmed beneath her, her breaths increased, more memories of their times together flashed through her mind, the passion…the pleasure…all of it…
She sat up, her cheeks bright pink. “Intoxicating…yes…” She spoke, a bit breathless. She then smiled and looked about her room for a moment. “I remember this room.” She nodded, “I’ve spent many years here, I can feel it…” She paused at the journal again and thumbed through it, looking over her writing, she smiled as she read a small page that Iris had written about Cassandra, confessing her desire to be with her, to love her…she blushed again. “I’ve always been drawn to you, it seems.” She chuckled as she listened to the front door open downstairs. “Okay…” She nodded. She grasped Cassandra’s hand and led her from the room, her hand fell away as she made it to the top of the stairs.
She looked down to her family as they came in the door. She descended the stairs as a memory came to her.
Sebastian rushed into the home, a body held in his arms. “Lucille!” He called out. “Lucille!”
Iris rushed down the stairs, “Mother is in town father…who is this?” She questioned, her eyes looking over the bloodied man. “Come, let us get him downstairs.” She moved quickly and ran down the stairs to the basement where she pushed the doors open to their medical room. She instantly began working on him. “Dear god he’s lost a lot of blood…” She muttered as she sutured a few wounds. “Father…I don’t think…”
Sebastian leaned forward looking over the man. “Lycans attacked him. He’s military…he defended me…he protected me and threw himself before a Lycan to save me…and I don’t even know his name.”
Iris watched her father a long moment, her hands covered in blood. “Father?” She asked softly, she could hear his heartbeat slowing as she looked back down and wiped blood from his face. His eyes fluttered. He looked to her with his hazel eyes, blood leaking from his nose. “You could save him.” She spoke and looked to Sebastian.
Sebastian looked over the man, he took in a deep breath. He stepped forward. “Soldier, do you want to live?” He asked, he gripped his hand. He watched as the man nodded, tears rolling from his eyes. Sebastian gave a nod. “Forgive me.” He leaned down and bit into his neck. The man let out a gurgled cry, though his body fell limp moments later before Sebastian slit his wrist and dripped his blood into the man’s mouth. “Now we wait.” He looked to Iris, “Clean him up, would you?”
Iris nodded and stepped forward, cleaning and patching his wounds. This, was Julian. The day her father had found him…they day that Julian saved the king’s life.
Iris gripped onto the rail, she’d frozen as she walked down the stairs. “Iris?” Julian stood before her, his hand on her shoulder. “Iris are you alright?” He asked and searched her eyes.
Iris took in a shaken breath. “Y-yes, just remembering. It’s a lot to remember you know?” She questioned and searched his eyes.
“I can only imagine, you’re much older than I am.” He smiled. “You’ve taught me nearly everything I know.” He helped her the rest of the way down the stairs.
“Shall we eat?” Sebastian asked, he smiled to Cassandra. “Come on.” He led them into the kitchen.
Everything was just as it had been. Iris sat in her place, Cassandra across from her. She looked to her a smile on her lips as she thought of the moments before in the bedroom. She blushed to the thoughts. Lucille saw her and chuckled. “At least your love still remains just as strong.” She spoke as she poured wine for everyone as Julian and Sebastian cooked. “Cass, we haven’t told you the good news of the trial.” She sat down next to Cassandra. Riskel sat at the table as well, he looked to Iris with soft eyes and then he turned his attention to Lucille and Cassandra. “The council, every one of them was arrested with the exception of Sebastian of course. All found guilty of blackmail and treason. Each and every one of them. Marcus has been awakened, you should speak with him, he’s one of the oldest vampires alive. He’s very wise.”
Riskel cleared his throat slightly. “I have a proposition for you, when you have a moment Cassandra. I want to speak to you in my office. We may need the assistance of the Order.”
Lucille looked to him a moment and offered a gentle smile. “Is it so important that it can’t wait? Iris just returned.” She spoke softly.
“Unfortunately it is a matter that I will need to respond to swiftly, lives are in danger.”
“What’s happened?” Iris asked then, she looked to him worried. “I thought the lycans were at bay…that things were calm…” She stared to him.
Riskel gave a slow nod. “Here, yes. The southern continent has not been so lucky….” He cleared his throat a bit uncomfortably as Iris continued to stare to him. “I’ll speak with Cassandra, no need to worry my queen.”
“I don’t belong to you.” Iris shot back, her brows tucked together.
Riskel took in a breath, he then let out a soft laugh. “It seems you are getting your tongue back, hm?” He took a long drink of his wine.
Iris glared to him a moment, the memory of the night of their wedding flashed before her eyes. The spat they’d had…the back and forth. She turned her eyes away from him, the teal color had returned. She looked to Cassandra and her eyes slowly melted back to blue as she calmed. “If lives are in danger…shouldn’t we help?” She questioned.
“Iris I don’t really think…” Lucille began.
“Your mother is right.” Sebastian cut her off. “You need to get your memories back, you need to become yourself again. You can not leave to another continent, you are the queen of this coven…” He took in a breath. “We still have to figure out how to break that news to the coven as well as Marcus in the council…” He raised a brow. “This is a strange circumstance.” He set food upon the table and sighed. “In due time, Iris.” He kissed the top of her head. “Dead for three years and you come back and instantly want to go to war…” He shook his head and chuckled. “She’s my daughter isn’t she, Lucille?” He looked to his wife with a playful grin.
Lucille rolled her eyes slightly. “Unfortunately, she must have inherited that from you.” She chuckled and looked to Iris. “You need to relax, get your memory back. Spend some time with Cass.” She glanced to Cassandra and gripped her hand gently a sweet smile on her lips. “Hell, go to the cabin for a weekend. Just relax, you’ve been gone for too long to go rushing off into a war that…. truthfully isn’t ours to fight.”
Iris gave a slow nod. She smiled to her father as he sat down and she looked to Julian. “What sort of soldier were you?” She asked him, looking into his eyes.
Julian looked to her, his expression surprised for a moment. “You remember don’t you?”
“You had on a uniform, when my father brought you here…I remember.” Iris stared into his eyes. “What did you do for them?”
Julian gave a gentle smile. “Infantry.” He spoke and nodded. “I was the front line against the lycans for our military…” He ate a bite of food. “But I am thankful to have met your father.” He smiled.
Iris looked to Sebastian then as he scooped food into his mouth. She looked him over a moment. She grit her teeth, being so close to everyone listening to them speak. She took in a quick breath and shook her head. “I need air.” She slipped from the table quickly rushing from the room. She rushed through the home and to the balcony that overlooked the small garden in the backyard. She gripped the balcony tightly, her eyes dark as night, her fangs lengthened. She was bombarded with several memories all intermixing. A few seconds of one, followed by a clip of another all mashed together like food in a blender.
Lucille looked to Cassandra and nodded to her. “Go. You’re the only one that calms her.” She spoke and squeezed her shoulder. “You’ve always had that effect on her.” She chuckled lightly.
Iris closed her eyes tightly as years of information rushed through her mind. She stumbled back and leaned against the side of the home, she slid to a seated position. The good and the bad memories floated forward. Peter attacking Cassandra. Warren when he’d first kissed her. Warren’s death. Everything was coming so quickly she couldn’t focus. Her head felt as though it was being smashed with a sledge hammer.

Iris made her way to her seat.. she listened as they spoke. Her eyes rolled slightly as Riskel asked her of her assistance, and privacy. He always seemed too serious, never knew how to…. Love. She cleared her throat “If the southern continent needs aid – I will consider it. You tell me how much resources and infantry you need… once you do that – then we can talk a little more… I normally operate by sending in a commander and a squadron and assess the situation. Often times cries for help are not as dire as they appear, my commander can us determine the reality, and what steps we should take. Otherwise I am not going to waste my resources and my time until then…” she slowly stood from the table then – as Iris had dashed away.
“I agree- now is not the time for her to be going over seas, or us either. We need to spend time with her, and rebuild the coven. She cannot be the queen you ask for until she regains all of her memories and knowledge. For now… I’d suggest not even calling her that – the expectation is looming without any background… she is just Iris…” she looked to Lucille, who was nodding slowly.
“I agree… the pressure of being a Queen might be triggering these reactions as well. We need to take it lightly, and help her. That is my focus…. We need to understand more about whatever kind of poison she was effected by..” Lucille looked to Cassandra, she smiled then. “You’ve become quite the leader hm?” she smiled.
“These tattoos say so, not sure if I agree….” Cassandra grinned and pointed to her cheeks. “Here… see what you can deduce, perhaps we should take it to Marcus… he was subdued against his will. I bet he might know something of it… perhaps asking might be a good Segway into her revival…” he pulled the hallow pin from her pocket, still resting in a bag – and handed it to Lucille.
“Very well..” Lucille took the pin and set it down on the table…
Cassandra teleported then – following the sound of Iris’s heart. She appeared on the balcony, as quiet as can be… she looked over to Iris – who sat on the ground.
Cassandra stepped over to the rails of the balcony, her eyes looking out to the quiet city. It had grown almost twice in size, buildings popped up – the place was lined by a beautiful wall, gates about towers… it had become a destination, and a very reputable trade market… they also hosted the most beautiful balls… Though Cassandra had not bothered to attend one…
“Hey…” She turned and leaned down… she placed a hand on her knee. She sat down across from her and then took her hands into hers. “Slow and steady hm? No need to worry, everyone is sort of in need of help, despite all our efforts. I will send men down south, and perhaps when you are healed up – we can assist… but for now you are my biggest concern… I would happily turn The Order over to my Chief…just to be with you….” She kissed her knuckles and then pressed them upon her forehead.
“Your mother suggests we escape to the cabin…. But what would you like to do? It sounds like… you have a bit of freedom at the moment, so – you tell me, what’s on your mind?” she questioned and searched her eyes…

Iris looked up as Cassandra appeared. She watched her look out over the city. She sniffled slightly, her eyes watery. “I just want to remember…” She whispered softly. “I feel like there is so much weight upon my shoulders that I do not even understand….and they just keep throwing it at me.” She looked to her with dark eyes, her fangs still visible. “How can they call me their queen? How can they expect me to rule when I barely remember who my parents were? I don’t even know who Riskel is and he is my husband…” She scoffed, “He’s an ass if you ask me. Even if he’s done good for the coven, he doesn’t seem to care about me at all.” She growled. She then relaxed slightly as Cassandra kissed her hands and spoke of sending help to the southern continent, as she spoke of leaving the order just to be with her.
Iris gave a soft smile and shook her head. “I wouldn’t ask that of you.” She searched her eyes. “I remember how determined you were, that night that Julian brought you home. You convinced me quite easily to take you back into town, that there was a threat…” She stood and helped Cassandra to her feet. She stared at the city. “It isn’t as I remember it.” She looked to the towers and walls. “The city has changed a lot, hasn’t it?” She questioned.
Iris then shifted slightly, “I want to remember so that I can be the queen that everyone expects me to be.” She glanced to Cassandra. “I want to be with you more though…” She grasped her hand and took in a deep breath as she closed her eyes. She was calming, her hues had returned to the normal color. “You bring me so much calm…” She gripped the railing a moment and stared back to the city. “You know what I would like?” She questioned, she then grinned. Iris didn’t speak another word though her cheeks turned pink. She giggled slightly and shook her head. “Ice cream.” She smiled. “Ice cream sounds lovely.” She pulled her inside. “I want to make up for the time I’ve missed with you…” She glanced to her. “I feel like I’ve missed so much…” She shook her head again. She pulled her up the stairs and into her bedroom. She walked out onto the balcony. She smiled as she took in a fresh breath of air. The sun was nearly set.
“How do I transform?” She asked curiously. “Does it just happen? You said I can be anything I want?” She questioned. She was becoming more curious than afraid of the unknown. More like her old self. “Is it painful? I remember the first time I changed it was quite painful…I was afraid…” She looked out over the city again. “Should I be in hiding…because I’m dead?” She questioned. “How will the coven handle the information of their queen that has been presumed dead three years….is alive?” She sighed and crossed her arms. “I don’t know.” She looked to Cassandra, her eyes looking over her. “There is so much I don’t understand, Cass…so much I can’t remember…” She shook her head. “I can’t even remember my favorite food, let alone be responsible for the lives of others…” She sighed then. “I was a good fighter too? Hm?” She questioned. “I can’t even remember that.” She let out a soft laugh, though pain hid behind it. She pulled the pistol from her hip, it was familiar and foreign at the same time. “I don’t’ even know how to operate this thing…” She spoke and looked to Cassandra. “Yet…in my memory…I know exactly what to do…I’m precise…” Iris looked to Cassandra. “It’s as though I’ve done it a thousand times…yet now…” She shook her head. “Sorry…” She apologized then and holstered the pistol. “But with you, you’re the only thing I feel like I know better than myself at least…you feel familiar…unlike the entire world around me…your smile…that curve in your lips…it’s familiar in all the great ways that cause me to smile as well…and your laughter…I would pay for that.” She glanced to her. “You are the only thing that matters to me, Cass.” She whispered at the end. “Because you’re the only thing I feel I know…” She shifted slightly. “Do you think we should go to the cabin? What will help me…are there more memories there?...Would…” She thought a moment trying to remember his name. “The scientist you mentioned, that discovered my condition…would he know how to help me?” She searched Cassandra’s eyes.

Cassandra smiled as Iris mentioned icecream – she followed as they escaped to her bedroom. She listened – the questions flowed in one after another. “Just… wait a second” she chuckled and stepped up to her. “Lets get that icecream first… come on” she held her hand out. “Take a breath – “
They teleported. About them was a beautiful little city. It was completely on top of water, it was if there were small islands of shops and buildings – connected by little bridges. There were small boats going up and down the canals, with an occasional passenger… The sun was high in the sky, a slight breeze waft off the top of the water.
“I came here once in search of a Lycan who was wounded. This little town is called Ascabar. When I arrived here I remember saying to myself – I wanted to bring you here, I knew you would like it. It’s sort of your style” she chuckled. “We… can take one thing at a time… for now – let’s just focus on the fact that you’re alive huh? Things will come back, we can’t rush it…” She grasped her hand and led her across a small walking bridge.
They entered a small iceream shop – a little bell rang as the door shut. “Welcome” a woman spoke from behind the counter.
“They do hand made icecream here, where they pour over it this icy sheet and make these cute little icecream rolls…it’s.. hard to explain, check it out - “ she lead Iris over to the huge list of choices behind the woman.
“I’ll take… cookies and cream” she smiled and looked to Iris… Once the orders were in the woman poured a liquid onto the sheet and began to work it with a spatula…
“We are easily… 800 miles from home” she smiled and looked to Iris. “I’ve gotten pretty good at traveling… so if we ever need to escape, you just say the word…” she took her bowl which had 4 rolls of icecream in it. She then handed Iris hers and slipped a few coins onto the table. They walked over to a table and sat down, spoon in hand.
“So your questions… Does it hurt? The first times I think it did. How do you do it? I have no idea… you seemed to always just.. do it. I think it’s one of instinctual – put your mind to it sort of things. We can try later, perhaps?” she questioned and took a bite of her icecream, she smiled as the flavor rolled over her tongue.
“If I could have it my way – you’d never pick up your gun again. You wouldn’t rule over a coven. You and I would just pick a place on the map and go – never stop traveling. We’d get into trouble, we’d have a blast – experience new things, and eat a lot of different good foods” she held up her bowl and chuckled. “But… I know everything will come back to you. You’re a fighter, always have been – even earlier it showed. You wanted to help those in need, that is just who you are. I always liked that, and also your spicey tongue” she chuckled. “Always sweet to me, but a spitfire to others who opposed you” she chuckled.
“I am really intrigued that Marcus is awake – I think if anyone he would know about your condition more than anyone. Dylan was an ancient vampire – so he could of easily known whatever it is what put Marcus into his sleep. I think there’s a link there… I feel like we should start there…” she took another spoonful. “but… atleast we have you, hm?” she smiled and then stole a bit of Iris’s icecream and giggled.

Iris turned to Cassandra and smiled, “Sorry…” She whispered, she realized then how many questions she’d asked back to back. Far too many to ask Cassandra to answer. Iris took Cassandra’s hand and as she took in a breath they teleported. She closed her eyes slightly as they appeared, she gripped onto Cassandra’s hand a moment. When Iris opened her eyes her jaw loosened as she looked to the gorgeous views before her. “Oh….” She breathed as she spun around and took in the views of the water, the small boats, the beautiful architecture, it looked nothing like Netherfall. Iris looked to Cassandra as she spoke, she gave a slow nod. “You’re right.” She replied as she held onto her hand, her cheeks blushed slightly. “I’m just thankful to have you here with me, to help guide me.” She searched her eyes a moment before she returned to taking in the sights of the city.
Iris looked up to the large list behind the woman of the ice cream shop, her eyes widened. There was so much to choose from. “They make it?” She questioned, her brow raised. “In front of you?” She looked to the frosted over stones before them. The woman was looking to her expectantly, awaiting her order. “Oh!” She looked back up. “Um…” She took in a deep breath. “I don’t know…” She looked to Cassandra, “I’m not sure…” She then looked back up. “Um…how about the fudge brownie? That sounds lovely.” She spoke in a question. The woman chuckled as she began to make the two ice creams before them. Iris watched in awe. It was like everything around her was new. She’d never experienced anything like this before. “800 miles…that’s incredible Cass…” She looked to her and smiled sweetly. “It’s an amazing gift you have.”
She took the cup into her hands and grinned as she followed Cassandra to the small table. Iris took a spoonful of her ice cream and smiled, it was perfect. Better than she imagined it to be. “How painful is it really…?” She wondered, though she didn’t expect and answer. “Maybe it won’t be, because I’ve done it before?” She smiled, “I’m sure I’ll pick it right up then, if I could just do it before…” She took another bite then as Cassandra began to talk. Her eyes softened as Cassandra spoke her wishes, she didn’t want Iris to wield a gun, or a weapon. She lowered her eyes. “I don’t want to be a queen either…” She whispered softly. “It seems I have too much on my shoulders, too much that is wanted of me, expected of me.” Iris then smirked as Cassandra spoke of her spicy personality. “Oh, so Riskel is used to that then?” She chuckled softly. “He seemed put off by the backlash…though he also seemed as though he’d dealt with it before.”
Iris listened then as Cassandra spoke of Marcus, she thought a long moment. “We should start there then.” She nodded. “I want to know what happened…I want to remember who I am…I don’t feel as though I know myself…” She shook her head slightly.
The door jingled as a group of three men walked into the parlor. Iris’ eyes moved to them, they wore black leather uniforms, similar to Cassandra. One of the men instantly straightened when he saw Cassandra. “Master Cassandra.” He spoke, he held his fist to his chest, his other hand by his side, the two other men behind him did the same before they relaxed. “It is good to see you.” He spoke and bowed his head. “We have had a bit of trouble recently with the Lycans here in Ascabar, as I am sure you know from the letter I sent last week…unless you didn’t receive it…” He watched her a moment. His eyes then fell on Iris, “Nothing to be worried about, I assure you.” He turned his attention back to his master. “We will be back at our headquarters soon, if you need any further information Master.” He spoke before he stepped away. The men got their ice cream and then left.
Iris drew her brows together slightly. She could smell something, something that seemed familiar, something that irritated her nose. Her eyes locked on a man that sat in the corner of the ice cream shop, he spooned a bit of ice cream into his mouth and his eyes met hers. A wicked grin split his lips. Iris looked away quickly. “I think we should go right now.” She spoke, her voice frightened. “Yes, yes we should.” She stood and pulled Cassandra from the shop.
“Aw what’s the matter puppet?” A voice came from behind them. The man was at their side nearly instantly. “Afraid?” He looked to her, he grinned to Cassandra then. He chuckled. “You’re with the leader of the Order, there’s nothing to be afraid of. Eh, Cassandra?” He looked to her a long moment. He had short ruffled hair and a five o’ clock shadow upon his face, his eyes were a bright golden color. “I recognize you…puppet.” He spoke.
Iris took in quick breaths, she grit her teeth, her eyes had melted black.
“Yes, I can see it.” He tilted his head slightly. “You’re the one Ravus changed. Aren’t ye?” He slowed down slightly. He’d walked them into a dead end.
Iris looked to Cassandra, her fangs were visible. Her instinctual side was beginning to take over.
The Lycan chuckled as he stood before them. “Go ahead.” He stared to her. “Go ahead and change.”
Iris grit her teeth, her bones popped, she let out a cry as her body began to transform. Claws formed on her hands. Her jaw popped and repositioned. She fell to her hands and knees and whimpered.
The lycan snickered as four others landed around them. “We spotted you the moment you came into town, Cassandra.” He stared to her, “To take out the leader of the Order, and take home a prize, it’s such a treat.” He grinned. “My master will be most pleased that I have located the hybrid, we’ve been looking for her for nearly 3 years now. It was as if she’d vanished after killing my pack leader Ravus. Though, it gave me a chance to become an alpha.” He grinned devilishly.
Iris snarled now she’d taken on her wolf form. Drool dripped from her jaws. She stared to the lycan, her ears twitched as she listened to the other lycans that were behind them. Her hair stood up on her back. Suddenly she lunged forward, her jaws gripped down on the alpha’s wrist, his bones crunched from the sheer force of her grip. He yelped in pain and ripped his arm from her. “Kill the leader of the Order! I’ll handle the hybrid!” He barked out as he transformed.
The lycan lunged forward and easily slammed Iris against the wall. Iris let out a whimper though she stood back up. She lunged at him and stood on her hindlegs as her jaws latched onto the flesh of the back of his neck. Meanwhile the other four lycans converged on Cassandra.
The alpha pushed Iris further and further away from Cassandra as he fought with her. He pushed her into the back alleyways and soon enough he had her completely out of Cassandra’s sight. He slammed her down onto her back, holding her by her throat. Iris pawed at him as she writhed against his grip. She managed to wiggle her way free and she bound through the streets, running for her life. He was much stronger than her. She skidded around a corner and then another and another. Her pulse bound within her chest. She knocked over a man carrying a basket of apples, the apples toppled across the street as the alpha chased after her. Screams came from the humans as they saw the lycan taking chase.
Iris shut her eyes tightly. You can transform into anything. She remembered Cassandra’s words. She was running straight for a gate that she was far to large to fit through. She took in a deep breath and suddenly she felt a hot sensation like fire. The popping sound came to her ears and a bright flash of light surrounded her. As the light faded away she slipped between the bars of the fence. She spun around and skidded to a stop, she was a beautiful red fox with a white chest and black socks. She stared to the alpha with her teal eyes as he punched the gate. “I’ll get you.” He snarled as he took his human form again. “I’ll hunt you down!” He hit the gate again.
Iris spun around and took off down the thin alley. She rounded corners, her pulse bounded within her chest. She glanced around left and right, listening. She raced through the busy streets and turned down another street. There she was. She bound straight for Cassandra and ran up her front, she curled around her gripping onto her shoulders, her tail nearly wrapped around Cassandra’s neck, though she didn’t hold too tightly. She whined and nuzzled her head into her. Iris jumped down and ran around her several times. Damnit how do I change? How do I get back? She sat before Cassandra, her ears deflated. Her tail was curled around her body. She huffed slightly as she tried to figure it out.
“Aw what a cute little fur ball!” A man swooped down and pat Iris on her head. A growl came from her then as she glared to him. The man withdrew his hand and looked to Cassandra. “You should put that thing on a leash before it bites someone and gives them rabies.” He spoke as he hurried off.
Iris huffed slightly and shut her eyes. A bright light emitted from her and with a small whimper she fell forward against Cassandra. “Ow….ow that hurts a lot…you didn’t tell me it hurt that much….” She grit her teeth, she hugged Cassandra then, “Who were those men?” She asked. “He threatened to hunt me…” She muttered softly, her voice fearful.
