Sabra almost wanted to hide behind Hendricks when she saw the Chief waiting for them at the evidence desk. She could feel the anger rolling off the man and it made her want to crawl under a rock and hide. Although just as he started to sink his teeth into Sabra Hendrick jumped in the line of fire and quickly diverted the Chief's wrath onto himself, keeping his word. Of course the Chief couldn't really rip Hendrick's head off, he was the prized officer of the precinct, and Sabra was still in awe of just how much sway the man had over the Chief. When everything was said and done Sabra nodded and gave a "Yes, sir." when the Chief warned her not to be late. It looked like she wouldn't be doing any heroics in the morning like she normally did.
When Hendrick started to go through the files, seeing all the mistakes and missed information, she shrugged and chuckled. "It's fun harassing everyone sometimes. I've pissed off a few of the officers by holding them hostage in their offices till I get them to focus for a bit." She stepped up next to Hendrick and started to flip through the files and sort the case files out according to which officer had filed them. "I don't complain cause I'm not in real good with the brass here. So I just do what I can and move on. It's what happens when you're on the bottom of the totem pole." Within a few seconds she had everything divided up. "If you want to come with me to give these officer's hell that would be fun. Might scare them straight or just be a good laugh to see a bit of panic on their faces when I normally get eye rolls."
She motioned for Hendrick to follow her after picking up half the stack and checked to see who it was that would be their first victim. "Officer Tyler.. great." He was one of the worst tempered ones. So she made her way up the stairs and wound through the precinct till she got to his office where he sat sipping on coffee and reading something on his computer monitor. When she knocked on the door frame he looked up and groaned. "I'm busy Chase. Go bother someone else." He told her a bit harshly.

Sebastian sighed slightly when she stated that she was too low on the totem pole to complain about such things. He knew how everyone viewed the clerks. It wasn’t a glorious job, but without them...the precinct would fall apart. Clearly officers couldn’t even file their cases properly if Chase had to follow them around asking for the completion. He leaned back in the chair and watched as she quickly separated the files, it was much faster than he would be able to do it. “Of course I’ll come with you. Perhaps it’ll speed up the process?” He smirked as he followed her up the stairs. He strayed a bit behind her though, listening as they headed to the first office. His brows tucked together when he heard the harsh words of the officer.
“Too busy to do you’re own job?” Sebastian stepped up behind Sabra his eyes looked to the officer whom lifted his eyes. “It seems that a lot of my officers can’t do a simple thing such as filing their paperwork properly.” He stepped into the office as the officer scrambled behind his desk, nearly falling from his chair. No one expected their Lieutenant to be with the filing clerk. Sebastian walked around and looked to the monitor. “Hm, I see, you’re all too busy. Perhaps Chase should come back when you’re not shopping online for gifts for your wife.” He leaned forward and clicked on the mouse navigating the page a bit.
“Lieutenant….” Officer Tyler stammered.
Sebastian straightened and looked to him before he took the files from Sabra and set them on the desk. “Then do your job, officer.” He pushed the files across the desk. “Why don’t you apologize to Chase? She shouldn’t have to hunt you down for you to complete your own paperwork.”
Officer Tyler began working on the paperwork quickly. “Of course Lieutenant. My apologies Chase.” He spoke as he signed the last one and stood. He handed the files to her. “I was careless. It won’t happen again.”
“It better not.” Sebastian watched him a moment, “I wouldn’t want to interrupt your shopping, again.” He smirked as he turned and stepped from the office. “Next?” He turned to Sabra, he seemed to be enjoying himself. He was one of the few officers that had such sway with the others within the department. To have him on her side was like a secret weapon. “Hopefully this is the first and last time I’ll need to do this.” He smiled as he followed her through the precinct.

Sabra had to bite the inside of her lip in order not to burst out laughing upon seeing how Tyler scrambled once Hendrick walked into the office. This was just as much fun as she thought it would be, and she was starting to thoroughly enjoy having Hendrick around. She wasn't surprised that Tyler was only shopping when he said he was busy. Usually the officers had some sort of piss-poor excuse for not completing their paperwork. After signing the paperwork and Tyler had handed it back Sabra she gave him a sweet smile. "Don't worry about it. All is forgiven." She told him and then searched through the next file to see who they would need to scare next.
"Oh I don't know. This is going to be great. The highlight of my week." She told Hendrick and gave him a wink as she lead him through the precinct to everyone who hadn't completed their paperwork. Each time Sabra had to fight back laughter as the officers scrambled to find excuses, to apologized profusely when Hendrick asked why they had failed to complete such a simple task. It was like everyone in the precinct was purposely trying to make her life a little more difficult. She wasn't lying when she said she had pissed quite a few people off. It seemed she had a knack for making people difficult.
When they finished with the files and headed back down to evidence to file everything away Sabra finally was able to laugh. "That was awesome. I've never seen them scramble like that except for when the Chief is patrolling the halls." She slid the last file into the drawer and closed it with a satisfying thud. "Maybe things will go a bit more smoothly from here on out." She turned back to Hendrick. "Would you be willing to let me take you out for a drink sometime? As a thank you."

Sebastian followed her along through the precinct. He had to hold his own laughter back as the officers scrambled in his presence. He wasn’t in the office much, so it was quite a thing for him to be following around Chase to make sure the officers were completing his work. Only a few officers had done their paperwork correctly and he made a note in the back of his head to thank them later for following the simple instructions upon the page. He too let out his laughter as they came downstairs to the evidence room. “Well they should, I’m right beneath the chief in command.” He chuckled, “Though they shouldn’t be giving you such a hard time with the paperwork. It is a simple task that if it is not done correctly it could get us all in a load of trouble. The fact that you take the time to make sure that it is completed shows me that you truly are the strong worker that I thought you were.” He sat down in the chair as he looked around the evidence office. His eyes moved to the files upon files that were neatly organized in the room.
“If things don’t go smoothly, just let me know. I can always come in off the street to kick a few of my officers in the ass.” He chuckled as he looked to the clock. He hadn’t realized how quickly the day had gone. It was already time for him to go home, and then some. A pit formed in his stomach as he wondered if he would be summoned by Ira this evening. It wasn’t every night that he was forced into the horrible act of Jackal. But it was more frequent than he would like, especially lately. His eyes moved to Sabra when she posed the question about drinks. A smile curved up his lips as he slowly stood. “All those coffees I bought you finally smoothed you over?” He teased.
Sebastian then gave a nod. “I would enjoy that. Though you don’t have to buy...” He searched her eyes a moment. “Just let me know when? I’ll have to dress for the occasion of course.” He shifted slightly and his eyes lifted to the television that was droning on in the background. The weatherman was speaking of the harsh cold that was to lay over the city for the next few days. “Do you walk to work?” He asked curiously. “I know a lot of people that do. The city.” He shrugged slightly. “I could give you a ride home if you’d like.” He looked to her with a warm smile.

"If you don't let me buy then it's not really paying you back now is it?" She asked with a chuckle. "And how are you going to dress for the occasion? Blue jeans and a t-shirt not good enough?" She was curious as to what he thought he had to wear out to a bar. It wasn't like they were going out on a date.. right? They were co-workers, barely friends, but even she couldn't deny just how well they got along. Sabra also couldn't help but think back to Nurse Paula and just how disappointed the woman would be if she found out Hendrick had gone on a date. Surely there were others who would feel the same way, and with Sabra having Echo's mantle it would be hard to actually have a significant other.
"After all the mugging reports I've seen in this city? Hell no I don't walk home." She told him with a bit of laughter. "I have a motorcycle and when the weather is bad I have a bus pass." She pointed under the desk. "My helmet is under there. Safety first, right?" She asked with a smirk then leaned next to him and grabbed a sticky note pad as well as a pen to write down her phone number. Once she was finished she handed him the slip. "Here, call me when you want to go out. I'm sure you want to get home and put that leg up. It's got to still be bothering you after being shot today." Besides she was planning on going out as Echo that night. She was still needing to do a little work to lift the weight of her guilty conscious after the past couple of days.

Sebastian grinned as he looked to her. “Jeans and a t-shirt?” He chuckled. “Of course. That’s much better than going around in my police uniform carrying around a bullet proof vest all day. Though with the crime rates in this city lately.” He smirked slightly. He only smiled to her response, “A motorcycle?” He seemed interested as he moved to look to the helmet that was nestled beneath the desk. He hadn’t noticed it before. “I didn’t peg you as the type.” He was curious to say the least. Not many women rode motorcycles, especially in the city. “And the bus?” He scrunched up his face. “When the weather is bad, I’ll give you a ride Chase.” He shuddered. “The bus system. It must take you an hour to get two blocks!” He exclaimed though he chuckled afterward. When she leaned forward Sebastian straightened slightly, he followed her hands to the notepad and he watched as the ballpoint pen rolled over the paper. A soft smile held a curve in his lips as he took the note. “Yes, of course. Rest would be good I suppose wouldn’t it?” He looked to her and held the note up. “I’ll message you, so that you have my number.”
He pulled his phone from his jacket pocket and clicked away on it before he hit send on the message. “There, now if you’re bored you can call me.” He smiled. “There are only so many pages of a book that I can manage before I fall asleep.” He turned then. “Oh, and don’t be late tomorrow.” He smirked once again. “I don’t know how much heat I can keep off of you from the chief.” He spoke as he stepped from the room.
Sebastian walked to his vehicle that was nestled into the lot. It was an old black jeep with more stories than any new car could muster. He’d restored it on his off days. Each bit of the jeep he’d pulled apart just to put it back together again. He cranked up the engine and it rumbled to life, he allowed it to idle for a few minutes before he took off. He gazed up to the skies as clouds seemed to roll in, a storm was brewing for the evening. He made his trip across town out of the busy city streets and into the suburbs where he’d bought himself a nice family home. Though, he was the only one who lived within the walls of the home. He pulled his jeep into the two car garage, right in the center. He climbed out and groaned, his leg tightened from the long drive. He then made his way inside, his keys were placed upon the coffee table by the garage door. His wallet and badge found their homes there as well. He rounded a corner and his brows tucked together.
Ira stood before him. The ghost of a man. He wore nothing to conceal his identity. He didn’t need to. He wore a fine designer pair of shoes that were neatly polished, designer slacks with a deep blue button up shirt tucked in. Cufflinks of daggers. Just to show off. His hair was neatly combed to the side. He looked nothing like the criminal that the world imagined him to be. He stood in the kitchen and began clapping slowly. Two of his henchmen were sitting at the dining room table. “What a show.” He continued to clap. “What. A. Show.” He stepped forward to Sebastian. “You continue to impress me.” His voice made Sebastian’s blood curdle. “Tonight my young puppet, we are going to have a ball.” A wicked grin split his lips. “Get it? A ball? It will be a massacre to end all.” He twirled about as if he was dancing with someone.
“I...can’t...” Sebastian choked out, his expression filled with pain. Though it wasn’t physical pain, no. It was the pain of everything horrible he was forced to do over the last three months. He knew it would only get worse.
Ira stopped his lip sneered as he stepped forward. “Are you forgetting something?” He popped out the remote that controlled the device that was nestled beneath Sebastian’s skin in his neck. “Boom.” He cackled. “Don’t think I won’t do it. Prized cop dies in his home. Apparent bombing.” He giggled away. “I’ll make sure your funeral is a blast.”
“Okay...” Sebastian grit his teeth.
Ira smirked, “Good boy.” He walked around him and hummed slightly. “Here are your orders. Don’t slip up.” He wiggled the remote in front of Sebastian’s face. “I’ll be watching tonight.” Ira grinned as he turned.
**
The sun set upon Volk and the night grew bitter cold. A ball for the annual election was taking place, along with several sporting events, concerts. It was a busy evening in the city that never seemed to sleep. Upon a neighboring rooftop Jackal stood. He had three henchmen with him this evening. He wore his usual fedora that was tilted down upon his face, shrouding his eyes in shadows. His metal gas mask hissed with each breath. He shoved his hands deep within the black trench coat that he wore. He was the image of a villain. The image that Ira wanted him to be. Each and every piece that he wore Ira placed in a box that was sent to Sebastian’s doorstep. Tonight Ira had tasked him with killing the mayor’s daughter. A woman he knew personally. A woman he had once upon a time had enduring feelings for. His body shook as he looked down upon the building, he could heard the music, the laughter. He watched as everyone danced about, not a care in the world. He looked to the officers that stood their posts. It would be an uneventful evening. At least, if Ira hadn’t set his eyes on the mayor’s daughter...

Sabra saved Hendrick's number in her phone when she received his message and then said her goodbyes before getting her helmet out from under the desk and tucking it under her arm before heading out of the precinct. She smirked when some of the officers sheepishly waved or avoided her completely. It was completely different than the cold shoulders or eye rolls that she usually got. Maybe things would really be different from here on out. When she got to her bike she started it up and sat straddling it for a moment as she put her helmet on as well as a pair of gloves before finally pushing up her kickstand and revving the engine before pulling out of her parking spot.
The trip home was easy. Since she was late going home she was able to miss the bulk of the traffic and managed to get home within fifteen minutes. Record time actually, and once she was inside and had tossed her keys and helmet on a small table in the entry way she looked down at her phone while deliberating whether or not to message Hendrick. She stood there for a few minutes but eventually decided against it and just set her phone down. "Grab something to eat and then head out." She stated to herself and made her way to the kitchen to put together a sandwich.
*****
Later that night Echo was sitting down and alleyway. she was listening to a police scanner for any signs of trouble. It seemed like a quiet night, though there was a bit of chatter over the radio about a function the Mayor was holding. Nothing exciting but Echo had a sneaking suspicion that if it was this calm and the Mayor had a function that meant something was going to happen, call it a gut feeling. So with a sigh she tucked her gloves on a bit better and revved her bike. She had taken the plates off and slipped a few modified pieces over the gas tank and front wheel. Just so no one would identify the vehicle as hers while she drove around town. Her attire was form fitting, black with a bit of a leather hanging from her hip to give her an almost cloaked appearance. Her helmet had been the hardest part of the ensemble. It not only protected her head and concealed her face but had a function to produce sound waves for her to manipulate. The feathers that came out the back hid the electrical components.
She made her way to a couple blocks over from the ball and hid her bike within a parking garage then made her way to the roof to keep a bird's eye view. Maybe nothing would happen and it would be a quiet night. She could only hope, but she also hoped that someone would start a little trouble. Just enough for her to take some frustration from the week out on.

“What are you waiting for?” One of the henchmen questioned.
Jackal turned to him and gripped his throat tightly, lifting him off the ground slightly. “Are you the one in charge?” He questioned his voice dark, his eyes looked like pits of shadows within his skull. The man shook his head quickly as he choked. Jackal set him down and he turned once again his arms crossed over his chest.
“Boss.” One of the other men spoke up, he had his face planted against the scope of his rifle. “Echo.” He pointed. “Did you invite her to the party?” He chuckled.
Jackal tiled his head slightly. “She’s of no importance to this mission. Ira didn’t order her up, now did he?” He looked back to the ball. If only Echo could stop him. That was the thought at the back of his mind. Then again, if she stopped him, she would be the next bill that would come across his table and Sebastian desperately did not want to get an order to kill one of the supers. Not one of the good ones. He wouldn’t mind scaring a few of the egotistical bastards that called themselves heroes. But Echo? She never killed. Her actions seemed good enough. He didn’t want to have to kill her. He thought quickly and bit his lip as he assessed the situation. It wasn’t until the mayor’s daughter came out onto the balcony that it gave him a clean chance. “You’ll stay here. Unless I fall into trouble.” He ordered the three that all scoped in with their weapons. “He ordered the mayor’s daughter. It is the daughter that he will have.”
He made use of a grappling gun and quickly slipped onto the balcony. The mayor’s daughter turned around and just as she was about the scream he held his hand over her mouth. “Shhh not tonight.” He spoke as he gazed into her eyes. She squirmed in his grasp, her eyes filled with fear. She pushed against his chest as tears began to roll down her face. The Jackal took in a shaken breath as he gazed into her eyes. A gas came from his hand then, though it wasn’t the acid that he was known for using. It didn’t harm her...it merely knocked her unconscious. He pulled her into his arms. “I’m sorry, Moira.” He whispered softly, his voice trembled. This was the moment, this is where he had to choose life or death. Would he continue as a puppet? Or would he accept his fate and seal the fate of several others in doing so?

While on top of the roof Echo listened to the area around her. Picking up certain sound waves to amplify and dull in order to try and get a feel for her surrounding beyond what she could see. It was a trick that took significant concentration, but it gave her an advantage if she was given adequate enough time to listen to everything. It was during this time that she picked up the sound of someone saying her name, and it wasn't at the party below her. She couldn't be sure but she had a sinking suspicion that she had already been spotted by someone who she really didn't want to be seen by. So she stood up straight from leaning on the concrete railing, and then easily vaulted over the edge. Not in a panicked way but as if she had just decided to move out of her own decision.
Even though she fell several stories she used a concussive wave of low frequency sound to slow her decent and landed with a thud that sounded like someone driving by with their base turned too far up. She then made her way to the edge of the building where the ball was being held, keeping in the shadows all the while. She heard the sound of a grapple being used and she immediately looked up just in time to see the dark figure reach the balcony. That wasn't a good sign so she quickly started to climb up the side of the building, using the jutting edges of the brick to easily scale up to the balcony. When she reached the edge she could see the Jackal, holding a woman in his arms, and she grit her teeth together. Like hell she was going to let him melt another poor woman, especially while she was watching.
She finished climbing up the edge of the balcony and perched on the railing. "Out causing more trouble, Jackal?" She asked and snapped her fingers which caused a wave of sound to slam into the earpiece he was wearing, having heard the small electronic buzz from the device, giving a loud screech of feedback on both ends. She knew it would cause him to flinch and she used the distraction to leap forward and pull Moira from his grasp. Despite Echo's small size she was quite strong and easily lifted the woman into her arms as she back peddled to the doors that lead back inside to the party. While she put distance between them Echo flicked on device in her helmet and then amplified the loud base sound to concuss the villain. She had used sound waves to move cars before, she was plenty capable of shoving around a man.

Just as the words left his lips he heard the sound of Echo as she scaled over the balcony. His dark eyes looked to her as she questioned him. Clearly it had been a rhetorical question that she didn’t expect an answer to as she had sent a painful clattering of sound through his earpiece. As he’d stumbled back with his ear ringing Moira was easily taken from his arms. He ripped the earpiece from his ear and groaned as he held the side of his head. He knew about Echo’s powers, about her work. He’d heard the stories from the other villains when Ira called meetings. He grit his teeth as he watched her carry Moira toward the doors of the balcony. He took a step forward and just as he did so he was shoved back. His back slammed harshly against the stone balcony railing catching his lower ribs and vertebra. Gunfire rang out then. The three henchmen from across the way aiming in on the crowd within the ballroom. This was something that Sebastian didn’t want. Though he imagined that Ira had made the call.
“Kill her, Jackal.” The earpiece growled, Ira spoke to him. “Kill Moira now! Kill the damn hero too!”
Jackal took in quick breaths as he lifted his hand up to his ear and clicked the earpiece. “You don’t want anyone else to die, Echo.” He spoke his voice dark and raspy through the mask. He brought his hands together and a smoke screen came up around him like fog. Within a moment he gripped onto her shoulder and knocked Moira from his arms. Inside the ballroom the people ran around screaming. Several were already on the ground, some fatally wounded, others clipped by a stray bullet. The Mayor was stowed away by the officers quickly to a room of safety. Jackal harshly slammed Echo against the wall, bouncing the back of her helmet off of the stone. “This is your doing. The lives in there. Every life that is taken is because of you.” His eyes were pitch black, a contact that he’d found to hide his true eye color.
“Kill her.” Ira spoke in his ear. “Kill the bitch and kill the mayor’s daughter. Or do you want me to hit the button, Jackal?”
He froze slightly as Ira yelled in his ear. His hand gripped around Echo’s neck. Any other instant...she would have been dead long ago. He would have caused an explosion...created an acid cloud...something…
Moira stirred slightly, she coughed and rolled to her side. “What...”
Gunfire blazed across the balcony. Jackal moved swiftly and slammed Echo to the ground before he slid across the balcony in front of Moira. Almost as if protecting her from the bullets. A bullet clipped into his side, though it stuck into a bullet proof vest that he wore beneath his trench coat. “Move Jackal!” One of the henchmen snarled into their earpiece. The stray bullet would have caught Moira between her eyes.
Jackal gripped his hand over Moira’s face and lifted her up, her back to his chest. “Ask yourself Echo, how many do you want do die?” The gunfire continued from across the alley. The ballroom was nearly cleared out now. Terrified screams filled the streets as the gunmen shot down those who ran.

Echo could hear the voice on the other side of the earpiece, someone else was calling the shots, and she had a sneaking suspicion that she knew who that might be. That didn't grant him any sort of leniency her Echo's mind as he still had many deaths and crimes to answer for. The smoke screen was effective for someone who had to rely on their sight to see, but Echo was different she was quite good at locating things without her eyes. The first order of business was stopping the hailstorm of bullets from the thugs across the street. "Go to hell Jackal!" Echo yelled, her voice distorted and sounding rather electronic as she spoke.
As the guns fired across the street once more Echo grasped onto the waves of sound emitted from the guns themselves and amplified them to a such a degree that it shattered the concrete the men were resting on and crumbled the area underneath their feet as well as the floor beneath them, dropping them 20 feet with concrete and rebar. It could kill them, but at this point Echo didn't really care if a bunch of murders fell to their death. "I don't know what the fuck is wrong with your head that you think you can go around killing and melting people, but I promise you that you're reign of terror ends tonight." Echo threatened and lifted her hands as her helmet began to emit the thrumming sound waves once more.
She manipulated them in a way that pushed the smoke screen he had emitted and all the gases to the ground rather than letting them float around the room freely. "These deaths are on you, Jackal, not me." Turning one of her hands she caused a high pitch ring to sound around Jackal's head, cracking the glass in the mask over his eyes, and she knew the sound would be painful to endure. Next she drew her hands back and made a throwing motion which slammed focused blasts of waves into the side of his body, back and legs. It was a vicious barrage of attacks, but not one she could keep up indefinitely. As she continued her attack she gradually stepped forward, determined to rescue the woman who was obviously the target in this situation.

He'd never once heard Echo speak, in fact no one had even caught her voice in a video when she appeared. It was an interesting mix of sound that was more computerized than he would have imagined. Jackal gripped onto Moira as she fought against him, screaming through his hand. He could have killed her, easily. It would have been over between them, while Echo was distracted by stopping the three henchmen he could have easily ended Moira's life. He could hear the sound of the men screaming as they plummeted to the ground. Rebar stuck through the chest of one. Another lay barely alive with rebar through his thigh, his screams seemed to echo. Another was crushed by the concrete. The first kills of Echo. As she turned her attention back to him he made to emit a cloud that focused the electricity in the air, however somehow the cloud only managed to move a few feet before it was flattened. Then the shrill sound filled his ears. Jackal gripped tightly onto Moira as he let out a groan.
"Kill her." Ira ordered.
Jackal took in quick breaths, his head was spinning. He couldn't focus. Then the waves began to hit his body. He couldn't fight against it. He had never imagined that he would become so defenseless against Echo. He closed his eyes as his hand released a poison into Moira. A slow acting toxin. It was scentless. He trembled as he released her and fell to his knees. Moira rushed forward tears streaming down her cheeks. "Echo!" She cried as she ran behind the hero.
Jackal lowered his head, his breaths heavy, glass fell from his mask to the stone floor of the balcony. He could feel the bruising forming on his body already. He could only imagine that the stitches from the bullet wound would be ripped open from the concussive waves. "You're a lot stronger than you let on." He spoke as he quickly reached to his hip. "That helmet must do something to help you." He shot up to his feet and rushed forward. He shoved the cold barrel of a gun against her jaw as he chuckled. His demonic eyes looking to her. "What's wrong with me? I enjoy watching everyone suffer." He cackled as he pulled the trigger. It wasn't a gun with a bullet. Electric waves would shoot through Echo's body. Much stronger than that of a taser. It was something that Ira had given him when his powers wouldn't stop a hero. Jackal held her against the wall as he kept the trigger depressed. "Enjoy your victory, Echo. For now at least." He released her just as police officers rushed the balcony. Jackal clapped his hands and the world around him was filled with smoke. The sound of his grappling gun would fill the air and as the smoke settled the officers had Moira in their hold. The sobbing woman hugged into an officer. Another officer gingerly stepped forward toward Echo. "Echo..." He spoke, his voice in awe. "You saved the mayor's daughter." He smiled as he offered her a hand.
Moira looked to Echo, her mascara ran down her cheeks. "How can I repay you?" She questioned. "Anything, you name it."
**
Jackal rushed to the getaway vehicle and climbed inside. His body ached as he was driven away by another of Ira's men. He had a cut on his cheek from his mask breaking. He groaned in pain as he moved, everything hurt. "Did you manage to kill her?" Ira spoke in his ear.
"Yes, in 72 hours she will be dead." Jackal responded. "I poisoned her. Just like you asked."
"Good puppet." Ira cackled from the other end. "Good show as well. It'll be on the news. A shame those three had to die. But the theatrics were well worth it." There was a click from the earpiece signaling that Ira was gone.
Jackal climbed from the car when he was taken home. He slipped inside under the cloak of the shadows before he went to the basement and he pushed the bookcase out of the way to reveal a hidden door. He punched in a key code and walked inside before he slipped from his gear. He looked to the damaged mask and sighed. He knew Ira would replace it. Quickly too. He was the star villain after all, he couldn't have broken gear. He found his way to his shower and he stepped into the hot water. Bruises riddled his body, worse than he'd ever had. He stood and stared at himself in the mirror, the deep purple bruising lined his ribs on either side. Echo was precise in her attack, that was for certain. He grit his teeth as he slipped his pajama bottoms over his boxers and he pulled on a white t-shirt. Sebastian made his way to his bed where he lay down with a groan. Work might not be feasible the next day. He could barely breathe. He could only imagine if he had to chase down an armed thug...

The fight was going well. She had Jackal on the defensive, and he even released Moira as she slammed into his body with force. What happened next she wasn't prepared for though. As Jackal rushed forward and slammed her against the wall she tried to push him off of her but he was quiet a bit stronger than her and had better leverage. As he told her he enjoyed to make others suffer there was something to his tone of voice that told her his statement wasn't quite truthful. Like a rehearsed line that had he had practiced in the mirror but lacked true conviction. Unfortunately she didn't have time to think about it before waves of electricity pulsed through her body. She couldn't scream due to her muscles seizing, and she couldn't focus enough to use her power, all the could think about was the amount of pain coursing through her entire body.
As she was dropped to the ground she took a gasping breath and coughed as air flooded back into her lungs, stinging from the smoke he had summoned in his get away. By the time she had gathered her senses Jackal was gone and an officer was standing in front of her. It was Officer Tyler, someone who always gave her a hard time, and he was smiling at her appreciatively. If only he knew who was inside the mask. "Don't mention it. I'm sorry I couldn't do more." She responded as she accepted the helping hand up from the ground. "I think I'll be taking my leave now though. I think you've got it from here."
The officers obviously wanted Echo to stay, answer questions and give an official statement, but she didn't trust that they wouldn't try to arrest or unmask her. So before they could stop her she leaped out of an adjacent window and down to the ground below. She was able to stop her decent, as usual, but she still was feeling a bit twitchy from the electric shock so it was a much rougher landing. "Ugh, damn him." She groaned and set off down the street and towards the garage where she had left her bike. She was done for the night and was going to return home. No one else would be out tonight, or if they were other heroes would have to take care of it.

When Echo got home she immediately threw off her helmet and put her hands on either side of her head as she leaned against her wall and slowly sank down to the ground. "Good god my head is splitting.." She sat and just breathed for a moment. "and I can't even call in tomorrow else I'll get canned. Damn you Chief." She groaned and pushed herself back up to her feet and removed the rest of her uniform and then tucked it away in a safe she had installed in the floor of her closet. She took several pills to help ease her headache, and then took a hot shower before climbing into bed. "At least I know Jackal can't be fairing much better than me..." She groaned and covered her eyes with her forearm before drifting off to sleep.

The next morning Sabra woke up more sore than she could ever remember being. Her entire body ached, her head was still pounding and when she looked over to her clock she noticed she had to be at work in only twenty minutes. "Shit!" She cursed and threw the blankets off of herself and rushed around the room to get ready. She dressed, brushed her teeth and tied her messy hair back in a bun. Then rushed out the door and down the stairs, barely remembering to grab her phone and wallet, beforehand and jumped onto her bike after removing the modifications she had been to sore to do the night before. She was still sore, but she manged to get them off, hidden away, and then out onto the road. Traffic was awful but she managed to get to the precinct and into the evidence room at exactly 9:00AM, just before the Chief walked down and looked at Sabra as she logged onto her computer. "So, you actually made it on time today. Good, I was all ready to sign your release papers." The Chief said with a snide chuckle.
"Sorry to disappoint, Chief." Sabra replied and reached over to the small stack of files that had accumulated over night. She was trying to ignore her pounding headache as best she could. Today was going to be a rough day.

Sebastian woke to his alarm in the morning, only he woke to a whole new world of pain. He groaned as he reached and tapped the face of his phone. He could feel each individual bruise. “Rough night?” A woman’s voice came from across the room. “You look worse than Ira imagined you to be.” The woman had long black flowing hair and beautiful icy eyes. “He sent me with something to help you.” She held her hand out, a layer of frost covered the bottle. She controlled the elements. This was Gleis. A clever use of another language to speak of her control over her favorite element, water, which she loved to turn to ice. “Take it darling.” She ran her hand up his side and cupped his cheek with a smirk upon her lips.
Sebastian shivered to her cold touch. He grit his teeth and took the bottle from her. “Gleis.” He spoke, his voice full of irritation. “Do pass on my gratitude.” He growled as he pushed himself up and he looked to the pain medication. It was much stronger than the medication that the doctor had prescribed him at the hospital. He looked up and the woman was gone. She had a knack for entering and disappearing. He made his way to his kitchen, slowly. His body didn’t want to move. He forced a nutrition bar into his mouth and he took the pain medication. After about fifteen minutes his muscles had relaxed and he could finally breathe. He was still sore, but it wasn’t anything like before. He would have to keep up with the medication to keep himself mobile.
He showered and dressed himself in a fresh set of blues before he pulled on his jacket. He pulled on his duty hat and out he went. He was dressed to the book, as per usual. He made his way to the precinct early enough to grab his cruiser, this was his normal daily routine. He made his way to the coffee shop and looked to his watch. 8:45. He walked into the shop and Lily had his coffee ready to go. “A little late this morning, Officer Hendrick.” She noted with a smile. “I saw what you did yesterday, thank you for your service. Your coffee is on the house this morning. Both coffees.” She placed the second coffee on the counter, knowing that he would need to get going.
Sebastian shook his head and let out a soft chuckle. “I’m still paying you, Lily.” He placed a bill upon the counter. “Or tipping you?” He shrugged with a smile. “Thank you.” He lifted both drinks and he headed out the door. He rolled into the precinct and walked inside. He rounded the corner from the garage in just enough time to hear the chief’s remark. He waited a moment until the coast was clear and he approached the counter. “Coffee.” He smiled as he set her coffee upon the counter. He then frowned slightly. She didn’t look herself. “Are you alright, Chase? You don’t look like you’re feeling well.” He leaned against the counter as if to get weight off of his leg, though in all reality he was stretching the stiffness out of his bruised back. “Did something happen?”

After the Chief left and Sabra heard someone else approaching she looked up from a file she was reading over and smiled when she saw Hendrick carrying her usual cup of coffee. "You are a life saver." She told him thankfully as she accepted the cup eagerly. "Oh, uh, I drank to much wine and then decided to do a bit of yoga. I ended up falling and hitting my coffee table." She shrugged as if it were a normal thing for her to be so clumsy. She had actually built a careful facade around the office that she was a klutz. It made it easier to explain away injuries, plus she was a rather smooth lair from all the practice of hiding her duel identity. "How are you doing? Leg feeling alright?" She asked him just as the news clicked back on from commercial on her small TV and the voice of the Chief was heard. It was a report from the previous night, replaying for the morning crowd.
"That's right. We have three confirmed deaths at the hand of Echo. This is why I've stood by my conviction that these heroes are no better than the criminals they fight against. They just don't care who gets hurt in their conflict." The Chief had a smug look on his face.
"But Chief, weren't the deaths those of the snipers that were shooting into the ball room?" The reporter asked.
"Yes, but do you think that Echo bothered to check if any civilians were under those snipers? They could have been crushed as well. Once a person gets a taste for blood their thirst will become insatiable." He replied.
Sabra turned her attention away from the TV once more. She had actually forgotten about the snipers she had let fall to their deaths. Side affects of being hit with a taser from hell she supposed, but she found it hard to feel guilty about it. It was three less menaces that Jackal had at his disposal. "Oh boy. I think the Chief hates Echo as much as he hates the Jackal." She said with a sigh as she tapped the desk next to the file she was working on.
