Adelaide watched him carefully, the same concerned expression upon her face as she listened to him speak. As he stated that humans that he was merely friends with were killed she felt a knot form in her stomach. Just why would anyone want to kill something important to Ivan? To destroy his homes? She began to wonder just how much of a mystery this man that sat with her truly was. She gave a gentle smile when he promised that no harm would come her way. “I believe you. You’ve already saved my life once.” She bit her lip slightly as she remembered the feeling of the other vampire ripping into her neck. The pain that had shot through her body. It was traumatizing and she feared she would never forget how weak she truly felt.
As he seemed to relax Adelaide relaxed a bit more as well, she gazed back out the window as the lights of the city fell behind them. She looked to him with an excited grin as he mentioned investing in her tinkering once again. A chuckle came over her lips. “Well, once you see something that I make you can truly decide if it is worthy of your money or not.” She watched him for a moment. She drew in a breath as if she wanted to speak further but the words never came from her lips. She merely gazed back out the window of the truck. Though as they pulled into the drive before she could ask the question she could feel the tension in the air. “Ivan…” She looked to him as he told her to go straight to his room. She felt her heart begin to beat more quickly within her chest as a knot formed in her stomach. “Why…?” She asked but with the way that he glared at the care she somewhat knew what his answer would be.
Adelaide climbed from the truck, her body already trembled slightly as memories of the vampires attacking her at the party flashed before her eyes. Her breathing quickened as the fear gripped her and adrenaline ran through her veins. She walked through the front door and quickly darted to the stairs. She nearly ran down the hallway and slipped into Ivan’s room. She locked the door and leaned against it as she fought back tears. Perhaps this was not what she had in mind when she’d agreed to live with Ivan. It had seemed like such a safe space to live. She closed her eyes as she fought to calm her racing heart and her urge to hurl. Fear was something that Adelaide had escaped many times in her life. Even living in the poor part of the city that the orphanage was in…she escaped many of the thugs easily with her inventions. “Come on Addie….” She pepped herself up as she tore herself from the door. She stepped across the room and sat down at the couch, her hands trembled as she looked to them. “He…will be alright…” She told herself. “It’s going to be fine…” She whispered softly, her voice barely loud enough for even her to hear.

Ivan was glad Adelaide didn't offer up any type of protest to his instruction. If he was going to protect her he needed her to listen when he gave her instructions. He would have to explain and apologize after he took care of his uninvited guest. With a sigh he got out of the truck and followed Adelaide inside after she pretty much sprinted through the doors and up the stairs. He was more calm and seemed rather irritated as he entered the house and glanced to the man standing in his living room looking up at the top of the stairs with interest. "So, that's the human that you caused so much fuss over. She is lovely. Any plans for that one Ivan? Or are you planning on letting that one expire like your others?" He asked.
The man was tall, lanky and his face gaunt. His pale skin was clothed with what looked like a long, dark colored robe and a heavy chain with a pagan symbol displayed on his chest. He seemed to be much, much older than Ivan by the looks of him but with vampires it was extremely difficult to tell on looks alone.
"She is just getting settled. I haven't decided what I'm going to do with her yet. To what do I owe the pleasure of this unexpected visit?" Ivan asked in a short tone as he crossed the living room and stood between the man and the staircase.
"Can I not visit an old friend simply for pleasantries?" The man asked with a smirk before glancing back up at the stairs once more.
"No." Ivan answered flatly. "No one visits me without purpose. Now what do you want?" He asked.
"I want to buy your familiar." The man answered after a short pause. "She's caused some interest among the clans and I wanted to offer to take her off your hands. Since you're so adverse to drawing attention to yourself." He explained.
"No, she's not for sale." Ivan told him. "Now leave my home, Armand."
"Very.. very rude of you." The man no longer held the small polite smile that he had started with their conversation with. "I'm trying to be polite and save you from a headache."
"I don't want your help and I don't want this visit. Now leave." Ivan demanded.
The man scowled for a moment before suddenly disappearing from the living room. Ivan tensed and also moved with his own inhuman speed to run up the stairs just as Armand tried to break the door down to Ivan's bed room, but was met with a door made of metal rather than wood. Just after Armand slammed into the door Ivan slammed into him and pinned him face first into the wall and twisted his arm behind his back. "You are not welcome in my house!" Ivan hissed in his ear, fangs fully extended. "Get out before I rip your throat out." He threatened.

Adelaide bit at her lip as she waited. The house was silent which only seemed to add to the tense nature that hung in the air. Though suddenly there was a loud slam against the door, her eyes widened and she jumped to her feet. “Ivan?” She asked as she approached the door. “Um….” She drew in a quick breaths.
He’d told her not to open the door. Not to unlock it for anyone but himself. Her mind raced. She could hear the muffled sound of words spoken on the other side of the door. What if Ivan was in trouble? She felt her heart pound within her chest. She reached forward and placed her hand upon the handle of the door. She gripped it for a long moment, her brows furrowed. She then did exactly what Ivan had told her not to do. She opened the door. Just as soon as she turned the handle Adelaide was met with the strength that pushed against the heavy metal door. She was knocked back easily and she stumbled to keep her balance. “Ivan?” She asked as she stared forward to where she had imagined someone would stand.
She suddenly felt pain as she was gripped aggressively from behind. “Hm yes she is quite lovely. I can see why you don’t want to let her go.” Armand snickered.
Adelaide struggled against him she grit her teeth, “I’m sorry...” She breathed. “I’m sorry...” She repeated the words over and over again. She shouldn’t have opened the door and she knew it. Now she was once again in the hands of another vampire. Though as the vampire held her if Ivan were looking closely he may have seen something, a glimmer of light in her eyes as she took in quick frightened breaths. It was a beautiful white color the shimmered within her emerald hues, almost like the rays of the sun reflecting off the surface of a calm lake.

As the door opened Ivan stumbled forward with Armand. The shift allowing Armand to break free of Ivan's hold before he could secure him once more. Landing on his hands and knees he looked up at the vampire that held Adelaide close as Armand's long, skinny fingers slowly wrapped around Adelaide's throat. More focused on keeping Adelaide safe he did not initially take notice of the light within her eyes. "Release her." Ivan growled as he got back up onto his feet.
"I think not. I offered you payment, would have been a fair price, and now you'll get nothing." Armand hissed back. As he pulled Adelaide's head to the side to bite into her neck Ivan moved forward and placed his arm between Armand's fangs and her neck, making the vampire bite into him instead.
Ivan then managed to pry his fingers off Adelaide's neck in one smooth motion and pulled her from his grasp and tucked her behind him as he stepped forward and plunged his hand into the vampire's chest. When he retracted his arm he held the man's heart in his grip and immediately crushed the black organ. A moment later Armand fell to the floor, dead.
Tossing the heart to the floor he turned around to face Adelaide, his fangs still extended, and dropped the heart at his feet. "Are you hurt?" He asked in a strained voice as blood seeped from his arm where he had been bitten.

Adelaide took in shaken breaths as she struggled against Armand. But his grip only seemed to tighten around her neck, she felt the sensation of her trachea collapsing to the pressure as she tried to let out a cry. She heard the words of the man. He’d offered payment for her like she was an item to him. She tried to break free but it felt like every movement she made the vampire held her closer to him and tightened his grip like a snake.
She gasped in a breath as the vampire’s hand was pried from her neck. Small pin pricks from the vampire’s nails were left in her skin causing a bit of blood to leak from the cuts. She stumbled and backed up as she stared forward to see the grotesque scene play out. Her eyes were wide, she took in quick breaths as she tried to focus. Stared to the heart upon the floor as Ivan dropped it, her breath caught in her chest. When Ivan spoke to ask if she was hurt her eyes slowly moved to him. “I...” She reached up to her neck where bruising had already begun to appear where Armand had held her, there was only a slight trickle of blood from the cuts in her neck from the vampire’s nails.
“I’m...I’m sorry Ivan...” She stepped forward and grasped his arm. She placed her hand over the punctures that were actively bleeding. “This is my fault...” She gazed back to him, the white light flickered within her hues once again shimmering gently. “I should have listened to you...I...I thought I could help...” She lowered her gaze and looked to her hand which blood leaked through the cracks between her fingers.

Ivan took a quick glance over her body and sighed as he saw that the injuries she sustained were only minor. When she stepped forward and clasped her hand over his bleeding arm he managed to take a deep breath as his fangs retracted once more to give his teeth a more human appearance. "This time I was able to stop him. Next time, please just listen to me." He told her in a more gentle voice. "I can't protect you if you don't listen." He reminded her and placed his hand over hers upon his arm. "I'll be alright. I heal quickly. You don't heal as quickly though. Come on."
He pulled her to him and slipped an arm around her waist to lead her back towards the open door. Before he left he touched the com button on the wall. "I need someone to clean this up, and bring a first aid to Adelaide's room." He said to which a man came on and agreed to send the request right up.
Leading Adelaide down the hall he opened her bedroom door and once they were inside he closed the door. "Let me look at your neck." He told her and reached up to gently move her chin to the side so he could see the injuries she sustained.

Adelaide lifted her eyes to him, “I...know I’m sorry...you’re hurt because of me...” She sighed heavily. “If I hadn’t opened the door...” She looked away from him and sighed softly. When he placed his hand over hers though her eyes moved to his hand and then she lifted her hues to look to him once more. Adelaide didn’t put up a fight as he pulled her close to him. She stared to the dead body in the middle of the room. Her heart still beat rapidly within her chest.
She was silent as they moved through the home. Soon enough they made it to what was now her room. She looked around it, almost as if she expected some new assailant to burst from the shadows. She then turned to Ivan when he spoke. She flinched slightly as he reached for her chin. Her eyes locked on his a moment there was a fear behind her eyes. “I’m...alright...I promise...you’re hurt...” She assured him, though she could feel the sting of the cuts from the tight grip that the vampire had upon her neck, she could feel the ache of the bruising. She could even feel a bruise upon her ribs where he had held her tightly. Armand wasn’t gentle like Ivan, that was for certain. She looked to his arm again with worried eyes. “Someone should be tending to that...” She looked to the ripped flesh and then looked to him once again.

"Im fine. I promise." He told her and slid his sleeve back from the wound to reveal that, although the skin was still torn, the bleeding had almost completely stopped. "Im pretty sturdy." He smiled and gave a soft chuckle.
"Are you sure you aren't hurt anywhere else?" He asked and brushed a bit of her hair back and out of her face. "Im sorry you had to see that. I'd hoped to spare you from ever being exposed to something like that." He had never enjoyed killing, but he had accepted it as a part of life a long time ago.
A moment later there was a soft knock at the door before a woman came in with a plastic box with medical supplies. "I have the kit, sir." She told Ivan and walked to set the box down on the table. "Your room is being cleaned as we speak."

Adelaide stared to his arm as he revealed the quick mending that his body was doing. When he questioned her about her injuries she flinched when he reached to brush her hair from her face. Adelaide took in a quick breath as she stiffened. “It’s….it’s alright...” She spoke, her voice quivered slightly. “My ribs...hurt...” She spoke after a moment. When the knock came from the door Adelaide tensed once again. It was evident that she was quite shaken by what happened.
Her eyes once again shimmered with white flecks of light. It was a strange sight to see, there were few things in the world that could cause such a glow. “Apologies...” She reached and felt her neck. She furrowed her brows as she gazed to him once again. “Why...why was he here? He said he offered you a payment? Ivan….” She bit her lip slightly. “Why was he offering you a payment for me?”

Ivan frowned as Adelaide flinched away from his touch, but made no comment. When he saw the soft white glow in her eyes once more as there was a knock on the door he lifted an eyebrow with curiosity. He hadn't seen such a thing before in a human and immediately was curious as to what the cause could be. "I'm not sure why he wanted to purchase you. He fed me some lie about sparing me from having to deal with the others but I don't buy it." He told her.
Walking to the table he lifted the lid off the medical kit and pulled out a cotton swab with some alcohol. "Here let's clean those wounds. After that I'll need to get something to drink. Healing injuries.. brings on the thirst much faster." He told her and gave a small chuckle as he walked back over to her. "Here, would you like me to do it or would you like to clean them yourself?" He offered and held out the damp cotton swab.

Adelaide gazed to him as he spoke, listening carefully to every word. “Sparing you from having to deal with the others?” She questioned, her brows furrowed with concern. Adelaide looked away from him as her thoughts raced. She’d been in danger her entire life with the orphanage. The dangerous part of the city that it was in. But, she was nearly abducted. The thought of that caused her heart to beat more quickly within her chest.
She watched as he walked to the table and lifted the medical kit. “Healing injuries expends more energy…” She spoke and nodded, “That would make sense…just like when humans are ill.” She gave a weak smile. “Except I use chicken noodle soup and sleep.” She laughed softly then. “Oh…” She stared to the swab for a long moment. “I can’t see it..um..” She turned her head. “Would you mind?” She asked before she gazed to him once more with her hazel hues.

"Not at all." He replied and stepped forward to gently pressed the swab against one of the abrasions upon her neck. "So.. had anyone ever commented on the color of your eyes?" He asked suddenly. "Remarked that they have a strange hue to them?" He didn't know what to make of the light he had seen in her eyes, and thought that if she had someone else comment on it then she might know what caused such a thing.
As he cleaned the wounds on her neck, seeing the blood rise to the surface of her skin, he felt the burning of the thirst rise up in the back of his throat. He wanted to sink his teeth into Adelaide, to taste the rich life's blood pour from her to him, but he knew he couldn't do that. Not after what she had just experienced.

Adelaide didn’t flinch away this time. She closed her eyes and tilted her head more to the side, exposing her neck to him. She winced slightly to the burn of the alcohol as it seeped into the wound. When he asked the question she opened her eyes and looked to him a moment as she drew in a breath. “My eyes?” She asked and then she shook her head. “Lilian always said I have a beautiful hue to my eyes. She told me the color was very unique...” She smiled and then leaned her head again so that he had better access to her neck to clean it.
“But I just have hazel eyes…I guess…I’ve been told a few times that my eyes are beautiful…usually by men trying to flirt with me at the bars…or in the streets while I was headed back to the orphanage…” Her expression was confused. “Why…do you ask?” She questioned softly, curiosity in her voice. “Is there something that vampires can see?” She asked as she winced again to the alcohol. “That was a silly question…wasn’t it?” She let out a defeated laugh. “Is there something different about my eyes?” She asked then after a slight pause.

Ivan smirked as she asked about vampires seeing the color differently. "No, I don't see things differently than you but.." He wasn't sure how to say it without sounding a little.. crazy. Sure her eyes were pretty, the color being a little uncommon, but that wasn't what had drawn his attention this time. "It's not the color but.. they were.. almost glowing?" He stated as he finished up cleaning the wounds on her neck.
"Like.. magic almost. I don't know." He shrugged and stepped over to a small trash can along the wall and dropped the cotton swabs down into it. "I need to drink though. Before the thirst gets the better of me." He almost wanted to ask if he could just drink from her, but refrained. "I'll be down in the kitchen."

Adelaide gazed to him a laugh came over her lips as she saw the smirk. Of course it was a stupid question. She smiled to him as she searched his hues. She furrowed her brows when he spoke of the glowing color. “Oh…um…” She shook her head and gave another laugh. “Perhaps it was the light.” She offered almost sheepishly. “You know? It really must have been that…magic?” She laughed then.
She watched as he tossed the cotton swabs into the trash. She drew in a breath and bit her lip slightly. “Just…” She hesitated a moment. Her eyes were locked on him. “My blood would be better…wouldn’t it?” She spoke, her voice almost caught in her chest. Her curiosity was getting the better of her once again. She gave another shy smile before she shifted slightly. “I mean…you said it yourself…” She drew in a breath. She stepped forward to Ivan and gazed up into his eyes. “I’m not afraid of you.” She sucked in a breath after she made the statement. Perhaps it hadn’t come out exactly like she’d wanted it to. She meant she trusted that he wouldn’t injure her, but of course the words had not quite come out that way. Now she was frozen like a deer in headlights as she stared up to the vampire that stood before her. Her breath caught in her chest as she focused on keeping herself calm. “You’ve already done so much to help me…why can’t I help you?” She blurted out the last part, her brows tugged together slightly.
